Sandy Bassin, 90, a resident of the Hiawatha Care Center, formerly of Cedar Rapids, died Saturday, December 18, 2004, in the Care Center following a short illness.
Services with Masonic rites and military honors at 11 AM Tuesday in Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. Rev. Duane Hix of Kenwood Park Presbyterian Church will officiate. Inurnment in Chapel of Memories Mausoleum in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Funeral Home from 5 to 8 PM on Monday and at the chapel after 10:30 AM on Tuesday.
Survivors include a daughter Sondra Nelson and husband Ted, and a son John all of Cedar Rapids, and two grandchildren, Taylor Nelson and Alicia Bassin Hines. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and eight brothers and sisters.
Sandy was born September 15, 1914 in Loreauville, Louisiana, to Paul and Wealthy Ann Eldridge Bassin. He married
Helen G. McLean on June 16, 1942 in Cedar Rapids. She died October 28, 2002. Sandy was an insurance agent for McLean-Bassin Insurance Agency, which was later, purchased by Millhiser-Smith. He was a member of Kenwood Park Presbyterian Church, Mt. Hermon Masonic Lodge No 263, Cedar Rapids Consistory, ElKahir Shrine, a 33rd degree Mason, and a U. S. Army veteran of WW II.

Betty E. Beck

NAME: Betty E. Beck, 83, of 3165 27th Ave, Marion, died Thursday, May 5, 2005, at the Willow Gardens Care Center following a long illness. Private graveside services will be held Monday in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Cedar Memorial Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include her husband Donald of Marion, son John and wife Janet of Marion, Daughter Donna Wolf and husband Larry of Truckee, California, two brothers William Barnhart of Florida, and Duane Barnhart of Cedar Rapids, four grandchildren Jeffry Beck, Jodi Anderson, Kevin and Jack Wolf, and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and an infant sister.
Betty was born September 14, 1921 in Bloomfield, Iowa to J. Elmer and Neva Sheperd Barnhart. She married
Donald S. Beck on March 12, 1944 in Marion.

Adelaide L. Bales, 84, of Heritage Nursing and Rehab Center, died there, Thursday, May 19, 2005, after a long illness. Services: 11 a.m. Monday at Turner West Funeral Home by the Rev. Laura Smith of Kenwood Park United Methodist Church. Inurnment: Cedar Memorial Park Mausoleum. Friends may call at the funeral home from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday.
Survivors include two daughters, Betty Rich Olmstead of Cedar Rapids, and Beverly Bales of Sacramento, CA; a son Robert Margaret Bales of Oak Creek, WI; a brother Larry Wylene Hostler of Tipton; six grandchildren; and twelve great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, John.
Adelaide was born October 9, 1920 in Tipton to Clifford and Cora Albaugh Hostler. She married
John E. Bales on February 28, 1941 in Cedar Rapids. She was the food service manager at Garfield Elementary School until her retirement in 1983.

Dr. Richard G. Bausch, 88, of 150 Thompson Dr. SE died Wednesday, May 25, 2005 in Woodlands Care Center, following a short illness. Private family services will be held Tuesday at Cedar Memorial. Entombment in the Chapel of Memories Mausoleum. Friends may call at the Cedar Memorial Funeral Home from 5 to 8 Pm on Monday. The casket will be closed at all times.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Alice. He is survived by a daughter, Barbara Unzeitig David of Cedar Rapids, two son, Robert W. of Chevy Chase, Md. And Thomas W. Jean of Marion, four grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, a sister, Alice Lee Swatek David of Englewood, Fl., and a special friend, Louise Roalson of Cedar Rapids.
Dr. Bausch was born Nov. 19, 1916, to Thomas and Clara Bausch in Bellevue, Iowa, where he lived until his college years. He was graduated from the University of Iowa in 1940 with B.S. and M.D. degrees. He took his internship and later a residency in obstetrics and gynecology in Detroit.
He was married
to Alice McCollister of Iowa City Sept. 9, 1940.
During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army from 1941 to 1945, including two and a half years in North Africa and Italy as Major in the medical corps of the First Armored Division. His military honors included a Silver Star and two Bronze Stars.
Dr. Bausch practiced obstetrics and gynecology in Cedar Rapids from 1947 to 1978, first with Dr. Charles Day and later in a partnership with Dr. C.R. Scholl.
He was a member of the American Medical Association and state and county medical societies. He was a charter member of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology and was American Board certified. He was a staff member of both Mercy and St. Luke's Hospitals and was at one time president of the Mercy Hospital medical staff.
There are thousands of people, here and elsewhere, whose birth certificates bear his signature.
Dr. Bausch enjoyed visiting his farms in Jackson County. At one time he owned a cabin in Bellevue on the Mississippi River, where he delighted in entertaining his friends.
He was a kind, thoughtful, and caring man who will be missed by his family, his friends, and his neighbors.

Alva Harm Dirks

Alva Harm Dirks, 86, of 437 30th Street Dr. Cedar Rapids, passed away Friday, June 25, 2010, at Northbrook Manor Care Center. Memorial services will be held at 11 AM Thursday in Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Rev. John Keizer of the Springville United Methodist Church will officiate. Inurnment with military honors in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10 AM to service time on Thursday at the Chapel. A luncheon will be served after the service at the Springville American Legion Post No 331.
Survivors include four sons Mark of Springville, Eric (Debbie) of Irrigon, Oregon, Tracy of Milton Free Water, Oregon, and Randy of Battle Creek, Michigan, two step daughters Barbara (Dave) Morris of Bemidji, Minnesota, and Wendy (Dave) Cline of Walker, Minnesota, four grandchildren Aaron and Alysha Dirks, Tana (Vernon) Carlson, and Kori (Ryan) Brown, and a great granddaughter Addison Brown, Alva’s former wife Marilyn Shadix of Irrigon, Oregon, and former daughter in law Danielle Frisch of Springville. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Jean, two brothers Edward and Herman, and two sisters Emma and Elizabeth.
Alva was born June 3, 1924 in Langworthy, Iowa to Harm and Katja (Zimmerman) Dirks. He married
Jean Shatzer on December 26, 1977, in Las Vegas, Nevada. She died January 29, 1991. He was an inspector at Rockwell-Collins retiring in 1983. He was vice commander of Springville American Legion Post No 331. He was cub master and pack leader of Boy Scout troop 57 in Springville, where he mentored many boys to the rank of Eagle Scout. He received the Mechanics Illustrated Gold Hammer Award for one of the many instruments he made. His carvings and instruments may be seen at Wyoming, and Edinburgh, Iowa.

Lila was born May 18, 1928 in Rockwell City the daughter of Earl R. and Minnie Pulley Blank Jones. She married
Clifford W. Barker on April 28, 1951 in Manchester. Clifford died in 1997. She was formerly employed at the HyVee Food Store in the deli department. Lila was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church.

Maurice J. D. Barker, 88, of 1546 32nd Street NE, died Saturday, September 10, 2005, in Living Center West following a long illness. Thane Cody of Cordova, Illinois, and Mary Alice Baker of New Franklin, Missouri, a son Maurice Daniel Barker Michelle Zink of Columbia, Missouri, a sister Dorothy Thompson of Cedar Rapids, and four grandchildren Christine Baker, Hanna Cody, Thane Cody III, and Natasha Cody. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Maurice was born May 8, 1917 in Cedar Rapids to James and Nellie Shepherd Barker. He married
Leona Stanek on July 15, 1944 in San Francisco, California. He was a bricklayer for over 50 years and a lifetime member of Bricklayers Local 3 of Iowa. 50 years. He was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church, the Civil Air Patrol, and the Witwer Senior Center. He served with the Army 5th Air Force during WW II.
