JoAnn Boots, 52 of 853 Daniels St. NE died Friday, Sept. 2, 2005 at St. Lukes Hospital after an extended illness. Memorial services at 10 AM on Wed. at the Cedar Memorial Funeral Home. Inurnment in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Survivors include her husband, Allen, a son, Todd Jennifer Bemer, two daughters, Jenny and Wendy Bemer all of Cedar Rapids, a step daughter, Angel John Stark of Montana, a sister, Fonda Greg Taylor of Cedar Rapids, five brothers, Marshall Douglas of Moline, ILL., Rudy Sue Williams of Pahrump, Nev., Larry Susan Williams of Dayton, Ore., Jim Donna Douglas of Robins, and Harry Rachelle Douglas of Plymouth, Ill. She is also survived by two grandchildren, who she was raising, Ashley and Destinee . She was preceded in death by her parents, and a brother, Troy Douglas.
JoAnn was born on Sept. 16, 1952 in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of Harry "Jake" and Christine Aline Bazzell Douglas. She married Allen E. Boots on Nov. 17, 1990 in Cedar Rapids. JoAnn was a CPR and EMT instructor at Kirkwood Community College for several years. She will be greatly missed by her family and many friends. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established for JoAnn's grandchildren.

Esther H. Bizek
Born in Cedar Rapids on August 31, 1915
Departed on August 18, 2005. Resided in Cedar Rapids, IA.

Esther H. Bizek, 89, of 5351 Buffalo Rd. NE died Thursday, Aug. 18, 2005 at Mercy Medical Center after a short illness. Services at 1 PM on Monday at the Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. Rev. Marilyn Buchanan will officiate. Burial at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call at the Cedar Memorial Funeral Home from 3 to 6 PM on Sunday.
Survivors include a son, Dennis and his wife, Dianne of Palo, three daughters, Esther Huedepohl and her husband, Richard of Brooklyn, Joan Musil and her husband, Ray of Shellsburg and Kathy Albert and her husband, Jerry of Cedar Falls. She is also survived by 15 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents, a son Lester H., two grandsons, Wayne Huedepohl and Raymond Musil III, a brother, Andrew Flender and a sister, Martha Novak.
Esther was born on Aug. 31, 1915 in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of Andrew and Marie Sirny Flender. She married Lester W. Bizek on May 24, 1936 in Cedar Rapids. He died in 1960. Esther was a vegetable gardener with her husband for many many years. She was a member of the Buffalo United Methodist Church. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Memorial donations may be given to the Buffalo United Methodist Church in Esther's name.

Leo J. Bopp Jr.
Born in Muscatine, Iowa on February 13, 1940
Departed on August 17, 2005. Resided in Cedar Rapids, IA.

Leo J. Bopp Jr.'s spirit was lifted by angel's wings and placed peacefully into God's loving arms August 17, 2005 surrounded by his daughters. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, August 23, at the Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories with Pastor Ginny Bass of Amenity Hospice officiating. Inurnment will take place in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call at the Cedar Memorial Funeral Home from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday and at the Chapel after 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
Leo is survived by his three daughters, Dora Bopp of Walker, Lora Bopp of Marion and Nola Bodensteiner and husband Shawn of Robins, four sisters, Barbra Gimm of Eugene, Oregon, Dorothy Braden and husband James of Macedonia, Iowa, Amy Brosh and husband Donald of Toddville and Leah Kreinbring of New Boston, Texas, and five grandchildren, Matt and Joel Steitzer, Jordan Ruby and Clayton and Courtney Bodensteiner. He also is survived by his two canine companions, Angel and Sabrina. Leo was preceded in death by a brother, Carl Bopp, his former wife Dorothy Rightsell and his parents.
Leo was born February 13, 1940 in Muscatine, Iowa, the son of Leo J. and Nola Meyer Bopp. He owned and operated Best Buy Floral Supply in Cedar Rapids for many years. He was a hardworking and successful businessman who pursued his dreams unafraid with great drive. He was very gifted in music, gardening and cooking. He loved to give and did so freely and left a lasting impression with all that met him.
The family would like to thank Dr. Richard Pope, his nurse Tracie Merrifield, Bickford Cottage and Amenity Hospice for their care and compassion. A memorial fund has been established in Leo's memory.

Gloria K. Bernet
Born in Cedar Rapids on April 25, 1938

Gloria K. Bernet, 67, of 516 Forest Dr. SE died Monday, Aug. 15, 2005 at Mercy Medical Center after a sudden illness. Services at 11 AM on Wed. at the Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. Burial at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call at the Cedar Memorial Funeral Home from 5 to 8 PM on Tuesday.
Survivors include four daughters, Julie Majerus of Monticello, Connie Simcox and her husband, Dave, Jodi Irish and her husband, Scott all of Marion and Amy Cejka and her husband, Randy of Atkins. She is also survived by five grandchildren, Brooke and Paige Majerus, Matthew and David Simcox, Steen Irish and her longtime companion, Michael Bonney of Cedar Rapids. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Charles.
Gloria was born on April 25, 1938 in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of Bertus and Marie Bjornsen Soenksen. She married Harold L. Bernet in 1955. They were later divorced. Gloria worked for Dr. Harris and later at Mercy Care North as a medical assistant for several years. She was a member of the Shrine Ladies Auxiliary, Daughters of the Nile, Eastern Star, Malta Chapter and the Elks Auxiliary. She enjoyed crafts and her pet dogs, Buddy, Sadie and Sophie. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be given to the Shrine Crippled Children's Hospital in Gloria's name.

Donald H. Boer
Born in Des Moines, Iowa on January 6, 1956
Departed on June 7, 2005. Resided in Cedar Rapids, IA.

Donald Henry Boer 49, of Cedar Rapids died on Tuesday, June 7, 2005 at Mercy Medical Center after a long illness. Services at 10 AM on Friday at the Oakland Church of the Nazarene. Rev. Paul Miller will officiate. Burial at 3 PM on Friday at the Shaul Cemetery in Ottumwa. Friends may call at the Cedar Memorial Funeral Home from 5 to 8 PM on Thursday and at the Church after 9 AM on Friday.
Survivors include his wife, Sue, three daughters, Christy Reeves of Ottumwa, and Jennifer and Danielle Boer both of Cedar Rapids, three sons, Steven Alyison of Bloomfield, Greg Roxanne of Marion and Kenneth of Cedar Rapids, his mother, Arlene of Bloomfield, three brothers, Tom of Lebanon, IL., Robert of Woodbine and Rick of Bloomfield, two sisters, Sandra Bruce of Creston and Tammy Stocker of Ottumwa. He is also survived by ten grandchildren, his mother in law, Esther Clark of Marion and many foster children and friends. He was preceded in death by his father.
Don was born on Jan. 6, 1956 in Des Moines, the son of Paul and Arlene Daly Boer. He married Susan M. Clark on May 10, 1985 in Camdenton, MO. Don was a conductor for the SOO Line-C.P. Railroad for 25 years. He was a member of the Oakland Church of the Nazarene. He did volunteer work at Head Start and enjoyed fishing, camping, reading, riding motorcycles and especially time spent with his beloved family. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established in Don's name.

Eugene Joseph Dowie I
Born in Des Moines, IA on March 19, 1931
Departed on June 16, 2010. Resided in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

God welcomed Eugene Joseph Dowie, God’s good and faithful servant, to his eternal reward on June 16, 2010. Funeral Mass will be held 9:30 AM, Saturday, June 19, 2010 at St. Pius X Catholic Church. Rev. Donald Klein will officiate. Friends may call from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM, on Friday, July 18, 2010 at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home, where a vigil service will take place at 6:30 PM. Entombment will take place at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories Mausoleum.

Gene was born to Frank Dennis and Lillian (Traffley) Dowie on March 19, 1931 in Des Moines, IA.

Gene was very athletic; after graduating from Dowling High School in Des Moines, he attended St. Louis University on a football scholarship. He later played semi-professional baseball for several years following his service in the Korean War. Gene was also a graduate of Harvard School of Business.

Gene met the love of his life, Colleen Ruth Edwards at a high school dance. They married on September 2, 1950 and have shared the dance of life for nearly 60 years.

Gene will be remembered for his passion for people. He was genuinely interested in everyone he met. He was known to say “people turned him on.” This passion greatly aided his successful sales career.

In 1973 Gene purchased Dowie Outdoor Advertising in Cedar Rapids. He was also a partner in KTOF and KMRY radio stations. He served on numerous boards and volunteer committees. Gene was probably most proud of his involvement in the Christian Business Men’s Association where he made many deep friendships.

Gene is survived by his wife Colleen of Cedar Rapids; daughters Debbie Bock of West Des Moines, Vickie Dowie (Steve Norton) of Panora and Cherrie McLane (John) of Anamosa; son Gene Dowie (Alisa Butteris) of Cedar Rapids; brothers Frank (Alyose) of West Des Moines, Larry (Linda) of Monticello, and Fred (Sandra) of Van Meter and his dear sister Denise Brunia of Ames; eleven grandchildren and ten great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Gene, an avid golfer was also greatly blessed by and will be missed by his numerous golf buddies.

The family would like to thank his remarkable caregivers at Iowa Blood & Cancer Clinic, St. Luke’s Hospital, and St. Luke’s Hospice. You are God’s angels on earth.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Youth for Christ.

Caroline Louise Baker

Living Center East, April 4, 2006, after a long illness. Services: 11 a.m. Saturday at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories by the Rev. James Bonewald, Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home and after 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the chapel.

Survivors include two daughters, Dorothy Yanecek and Karen Beall and a daughter in law, Norine Baker, all of Cedar Rapids; her grandchildren, John Arlene Yanecek, Thomas Jan Yanecek, Sandra Baker, Janet Dennis Klein Diane Carl Mally, Kathy Lowe, Debra Rogers, Larry Nancy Beall, and Tamara Bruce Beall-Thomas; and several great and great great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Glen Baker, her parents William and Rose Carney, her son Glen Baker, and a sister Martha Carney.
Caroline Carney was born December 15, 1905 in Cedar Rapids. She married Glen Baker on May 6, 1925. She was a member of Daniels Park Presbyterian Church and then a charter member of Knox Presbyterian Church. She worked at Collins Radio Co. during World War II and retired from LeFebure Corporation. She loved to travel, go to garage sales and make many different crafts.

Memorials may be directed to the family.
