Marvel Whitcher Buchanan, a resident of Living Center West since September 6, 2001, made her transition on July 1, 2006. A celebration of Marvel's life will be held at St. Paul's United Methodist Church, 1340 3rd Avenue SE on Thursday, July 6, 2006 at 3:30 p.m. by Rev. brenda s. ehret, a friend of the family. Cedar Memorial Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
Marvel was born in West Union, Iowa on June 14, 1915 to Milton and Lula Whitcher. She graduated from high school in 1933 and from the Cedar Rapids Business College in 1935. Marvel was a schoolteacher and a secretary at the Killian Company and the Inter-Ocean Reinsurance Company. Most of all, Marvel was a wife, mother, and homemaker.
Marvel married
Lovell S. Buchanan on December 14, 1941. They shared 52 years together before his transition on October 11, 1993. On April 6, 1949 they adopted their daughter, Barbara.
Marvel was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, Tuesday Study Club, and the Malta Chapter #415 of Eastern Star. She was also a past president of I.H. Chapter of P.E.O. and the Sigma Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi. She was a Camp Fire Leader for the Blue Birds to the Horizon Club.
Marvel loved entertaining friends and having a good meal. She and Lovell spent many a night dancing at the Congenial 100 Dance Club. She was an avid reader until her eyesight failed her. Marvel's greatest joys were being Lovell's wife and Barbara's mother.
Memorial donations may be made to St. Paul's United Methodist Church or to the Friendship Fund of I.H. Chapter of P.E.O.
Much gratitude goes to the staff at Living Center West and to Mercy Hospice.

Darlene A. Bading, 55, of Cedar Rapids died June 10, 2006 at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics following a short illness. Friends may call Thursday from 4 to 8 PM at Cedar Memorial Funeral Home. Inurnment: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery
Survivors include her loving husband Vincent Bading, daughter Jennifer Bemer and husband Todd of Cedar Rapids, son Casey Bading and wife Amy of Cedar Rapids, and grandchildren Bethany, Chase, and Gavin. She is also survived by her brother Robert Baumhover and wife Joann of Cheyenne, WY, brother Ronald Baumhover of Livermore, CO, sister Eileen Mathias and husband Frank of Harvey, brother Richard Baumhover and wife Kathy of Wall Lake, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Darlene was preceded in death by her parents.
Darlene Ann Bading was born July 14, 1950 in Carroll, Iowa the beloved daughter of Edward and Edith Schrad Baumhover. She was united in marriage to Vincent Bading on November 22, 1969 in Wall Lake, Iowa. She was employed as a teller at Guarantee Bank and Trust Co. Darlene was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend and will be greatly missed by all.

Shirley Ann Bowers

Shirley Ann Bowers, 67, of 200 Broadmore Rd NW, died Tuesday, July 11, 2006, in St. Luke's Hospital following a long illness. Memorial services will be held at 11 AM Friday in Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. Captain Dawn Hayman of the Salvation Army will officiate. Inurnment in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. There will be no visitation. Friends may register at the chapel after 10 AM on Friday. .
Survivors include her husband LaVerne, their children, Peggy Strait, Cindy Kane and husband Ralph, Mike, John and wife Janet, Tammy Courtney and husband Richard, Dan and Brian, all of Cedar Rapids, two brothers Richard Milligan, and Ronnie Milligan both of Albuquerque, New Mexico, eleven grandchildren, and 7 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, a daughter in law Cindy, and a brother Donnie Milligan.
Shirley was born January 2, 1939 in Nashua, Iowa. She graduated from Nashua High School in 1957. She married
LaVerne Bowers on December 21, 1957 in the Little Brown Church at Nashua. She was a pharmacy inventory specialist for McKesson's for over 20 years. She was a St. Luke's Hospital volunteer with over 5000 hours.

Kathleen Marie Deegan

Kathleen Marie Kopecky Deegan, 31, a resident of Cedar Rapids, died Tuesday, January 29, 2002, at St. Luke's Hospital following a sudden illness. Services will be at 11 AM Saturday in St. Matthew's Catholic Church. Rev. Mark Osterhaus will officiate. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Funeral Home from 3 to 9 PM on Friday with a wake service beginning at 7 PM.
Kathy is survived by her husband Peter, three children Peter Kopecky Deegan age 3, Eva Shaeffer Deegan age 1 12, and Sean Foster Deegan born January 28, 2002. Her parents Eugene and Sally Kopecky of Cedar Rapids, a sister Elizabeth Ginther of Jefferson City, Missouri, and two brothers Christopher Kopecky of Olathe, Kansas and Jonathan Kopecky of Cedar Rapids, and her grandmother Helen Kopecky of Clutier, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her grandfather Mr. William Kopecky and the Honorable and Mrs. Clinton E. Shaeffer.
Kathy was born February 20, 1970 in Cedar Rapids to Eugene and Sally Shaeffer Kopecky. She was baptized at All Saints Catholic Church, graduated from Washington High School in 1988, graduated from University of Notre Dame in 1992, and from the University of Michigan Law School in 1994. Kathy married
Peter E. Deegan Jr. on June 25, 1994 at St. Matthews Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids. She was a homemaker and an attorney practicing in Detroit, Chicago, and Sioux City, before joining her father and brother Jonathan at Ackley, Kopecky, and Kingery in Cedar Rapids.
Kathy was a wonderful wife, mother, and a dear friend to many. She was cherished by her parents, brothers, and sister. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Leland G. Dankert, 84, of 2115 1st Ave SE, died Sunday, June 6, 2010, at his home. Services will be held at 11 AM Saturday in Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Cheryl McCullough Hospice Chaplain with Essence of Life Hospice will officiate. Entombment with military honors in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 PM Friday at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home, and at the chapel after 10:30 AM on Saturday.
Survivors include a son Kelton of Seattle, Washington, daughter Sheryl (Randy) Combs of Cedar Rapids, four grandchildren, Matt Brown, Maria Clark, Teresa Porter, and Terrall Clark, four great grandchildren Jon Clark, Christopher and Allison Mosbeck and Josh Tran, and one great great grandson Branden Clark. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, a son John, and one great granddaughter Kiria Clark.
Leland was born January 12, 1926 in Prairieburg, Iowa, to Fred and Mary Riechen Dankert. He married
Lana “Dutch” Sents on March 3, 1951 in Iowa City, Iowa. She died in 2002. He was production manager at Universal Engineering for over 40 years. He was a member of American Legion Post # 727. He enjoyed Gardening, walking, and watching football especially the Iowa Hawkeyes. He also enjoyed remodeling and painting houses.

Johanna Brost: 71, of 4209 Twin Ridge Court SE, died early Sunday morning, October 1 at her home following a long illness. A funeral mass will be held Tuesday, October 3 at 10:30 a.m. at All Saints Catholic Church with Rev. Corey Brost of St. Viator Catholic Church in Chicago officiating. Entombment will be in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call at the church after 10 a.m. on Tuesday. The casket will be closed at all times.
Johanna is survived by her husband, David, three daughters, Mary Jo Wahlert of Cedar Rapids, Trish Mohr and husband Loren of Wyoming, Iowa and Jean Brost of Cedar Rapids and one son, David Brost Jr. and wife Shirley of Cedar Rapids. She is also survived by three sisters, Gertrude Johnson and husband Jim of Springfield, Illinois, Jean Sorquist and husband Tom of Des Plaines, Illinois and Theresa Merano of Muskegon, Michigan and one brother Miles Kennedy of Springfield, Illinois. Johanna is also survived by her wonderful caregiver, Julie Burke of Cedar Rapids. She was also blessed with six grandchildren, Craig, Ryan, Jenny, Kari, Connor and Travis and one great granddaughter, Madison. Johanna was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, three sisters and a grandson, Austin.
Johanna was born December 12, 1934 in Springfield, Illinois the daughter of Roy and Ann Roach Kennedy. She married
her high school sweetheart, David Brost, on July 10, 1954 in Springfield, Illinois. She was a successful homemaker, wife and mother. She was a member of All Saints Catholic Church and a past member of St. Ann Circle at the church. Friends may, if they wish, donate to the charity of their choice in memory of Johanna.
John Thomas Chance Bell

John Thomas Chance Bell Chance came into this world on September 21, 2006 at 10:32 A.M. For 27 days, he left footprints on everyone's hearts. Although he was here for a short time he has brought so much joy and love into our hearts. He is a child of God and, we thank God for every moment we had to spend with him. We will love him always, and his footprint will always be on our hearts. We will remember the joy he brings to us everyday. He is looking down on us now, with his passing on October 18, 2006 at 7:40 PM. He will always be loved, missed, and remembered by his family, father E.J., mother Amber, and sister Brianna Bell and all of the families' friends.
Funeral Services: Monday at 5:30 PM at River of Life Church. Visitation will be held Sunday from 3 to 6 PM at River of Life Church.
