Peggy Joann Booze, 70, 625 42nd St. NE died Sunday, July 15, 2007 at her home following a long illness. Services: 3:00 P.M. Wednesday at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Funeral Home on Tuesday from 6PM to 9PM. The Rev. William Harnish will officiate.
Surviving in addition to her husband John are two daughters, Laurie Sexton of Cedar Rapids and Julie Houston David of Minneapolis, MN; two sons, David Booze and James Booze Tracey both of Cedar Rapids; four grandchildren, Heather Sexton, Kyle Booze, Zachary Booze and Lauren Houston; and her mother, Lucille Hess of Marion.
She was preceded in death by her father James Hess.
Peggy was born August 23, 1936 in Cedar Rapids. She was united in marriage to John A. Booze on June 4, 1955 in Cedar Rapids. She was an assembly operator at Rockwell Collins for 3 years. Peggy was a member of First Lutheran Church and a member of the Daughters of the American Legion Marion Post #298.

Donna M. DeFord, 72, of Cedar Rapids, died December 26, 2010 at St. Luke’s Hospital following an extended illness. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, December 29, 2010 at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories with Pastor Daniel Clark-Bridges of Hope Lutheran Church officiating. Visitation will take place from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Tuesday, December 28, 2010 at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. Burial will take place at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Surviving are her husband of 52 years, Jerry; children Dennis DeFord and wife Robin, David DeFord and Daniel DeFord all of Cedar Rapids; one sister, Edith Meeker-Musgrove and husband Ted of Cedar Rapids; her grandchildren, Alexander Minor, Andrew DeFord, Thomas DeFord, Shelby DeFord, Kylie DeFord and Dillon DeFord; and her one great grandson Carter.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Donna Milree DeFord was born November 5, 1938 in Ottumwa, the daughter of Oscar L. and Hellen (DeBurn) Orman. She was united in marriage to Jerry Lee DeFord on December 26, 1958 in Ottumwa. She worked at Square D for over 30 years. She and Jerry enjoyed traveling throughout the U.S. together. She also enjoyed listening to music, doting on her grandchildren and her time spent with family. She will be greatly missed.

Louis D. Burkhalter Jr., 98, of the Woodlands at the Meth-Wick Community died there on Thursday July 19, 2007 of cancer. Services at 11:00 AM on Monday at the Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. Rev. Jack Kendall will officiate. Burial with military rites at Oak Hill Cemetery. Friends may call at the Cedar Memorial Funeral Home from 2 to 5 PM on Sunday.
Survivors include three sons, Edward and his wife, Jo Ann of Cherokee, Steven and his wife, Veronica of Costa Mesa, California, and William and his wife, Cynthia of Cedar Rapids. He is also survived by 6 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister, Patricia Burkhalter.
Louis was born on June 11, 1909 in Cedar Rapids, the son and older of two children of Louis D. Burkhalter and May M. Bradley. He grew to maturity in Cedar Rapids and attended Coe College. He joined his father in the insurance business from 1931 to 1941. Louis married
Margaret E. Tietge on Oct. 7, 1940 in Omaha, Nebraska. She died in 2004. He was discharged at the close of World War II as a colonel of field artillery. Returning to the insurance agency with his father, he continued actively as owner and operator of Burkhalter Insurance Agency for over 60 years. He served in the U.S. Army Reserve until 1966 advancing to the rank of Major General and command of the 103rd Infantry Division.
Louis was active in civic affairs as President of the Cedar Rapids Chamber of Commerce, Y.M.C.A., and Cedar Rapids Rotary Club. A lifelong member of First Presbyterian Church, he was active in that church as an elder and trustee.
From 1926 to 1958 except for the war years, Louis was a violinist in the Cedar Rapids Symphony Orchestra. As a Coe student he was active in the formation of a Coe chapter of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, national honorary musical fraternity.
Louis was a devoted handball and racquetball player. During his active years he enjoyed these sports five times a week until injuries forced his to quit. He celebrated Christmas and Easter every day of his life in gratitude and remembrance of his best friend-Jesus Christ. Memorial donations may be given to the American Cancer Society or First Presbyterian Church.

Laurie Rene'e Johnson Burger, 39, of Davenport, formerly of Cedar Rapids, died July 22, 2007 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics following a sudden illness. Funeral Mass 10:00 AM, Friday, July 27, 2007 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Marion. Rev. John Gossman will officiate. Friends may call Thursday, July 26, 2007 from 4 to 6:30 PM at Cedar Memorial Funeral Home, where a Vigil Service will take place at 6:30 PM by Rev. Neil Manternach of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, Hiawatha. Interment: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Survivors include her husband Christopher A. Burger, son Noah, daughter Nicolette, and her beloved puppy Harley; her mother Debra Terpkosh and husband John of Mesa, AZ; her father Rex Johnson and wife Lisa of Marion; father and mother in law Terry and Cecelia Burger of Cedar Rapids; sister Stacy M. Nielson and husband Richard of Kansas City, MO; sister in law Laura Ganter and husband Christopher of Frisco, TX; nieces Taylor, Alexa and Rylee; grandfather Robert M. L. Johnson of Cedar Rapids; grandfather-in-law Kenneth Burger and wife Dorothy of Hiawatha; and grand parents in law Bill and Franny O'Rear of Camdenton, MO. Also surviving are step brothers and sisters Michelle Koenig and husband Tom of Woodlands, TX, Mike Terpkosh and wife Peppi of Waconia, MN, and Scott Terpkosh of Ames; special aunts Teresa Frisch of Cedar Rapids and Kris Croatt of Ossian; as well as many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her grandmothers Edna Mae Johnson and Shirley "Sam" O'Brien, great grandmother Gladys Vavroch, and grandmother in law Dolores Burger.
Laurie Rene'e Johnson Burger was born July 13, 1968 in Syracuse, NY the beloved daughter of Rex Johnson and Debra Barrett. She was a 1986 graduate of Prairie High School. She was united in marriage to Christopher A. Burger on October 17, 1992 at St. Matthew Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids. She was previously employed at Mercy Medical Center as a phlebotomist, and later worked as a Para-Educator for the Bettendorf School System. She greatly enjoyed traveling and attending her children's sporting events. Above all she dearly loved her family and cherished the time she spent with them. She was a loving wife, mother, daughter, sister, and friend of many and will be greatly missed by those who love her dearly.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Laurie's honor.

Barbara Jean Buhrman, 66, of 3644 Stoneview Circle SW, died at her home, Wednesday, July 25, 2007, after a long illness. Funeral Mass: 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Pius X Catholic Church by the Rev. Dennis Cahill. Burial: Linwood Cemetery. A vigil service will be held at 5 p.m. Monday at Cedar Memorial ~ Westside Chapel where friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday.
Survivors include her husband, John; 2 sons, Anthony Deanna Buhrman of Cedar Rapids and Brian Lynnette Buhrman of Marion; a daughter Ann Buhrman of Cedar Rapids; her parents, Eugene and Barbara Krebsback of Staceyville; 2 brothers, Gary Diane Krebsback of Osage and Larry Judy Krebsback of Traer; a sister, Debbie Ken Kosak of Staceyville; and 6 grandchildren, Brady, Sydney, Davis, Emily, Aislinn, and Ty.
She was preceded in death by a son, Mark.
Barbara was born on April 26, 1941 in Osage to Eugene and Barbara Gilchrist Krebsback. She married
John P. Buhrman on September 30, 1961 in Staceyville. Barbara was a clerical worker for most of her life, working at several companies, retiring in 2004.

Sharilyn June Bell, age 56, of Cedar Rapids, died of a long illness at her brother Allen's home on July 26, 2007. Visitation will be Friday, August 3, 2007 at the Cedar Memorial Funeral Home from 5PM to 8PM. Funeral services will be at 1PM on Saturday, August 4, 2007 at the Gospel Tabernacle Church in Cedar Rapids with Reverend Richard W. Reed officiating.
Survivors of Sharilyn include her son, Royce Allen Bell of Cedar Rapids, her mother Nellie Bright and her step-father Leroy Bright of Cedar Rapids, her brother Allen Bell and his wife Danita of Cedar Rapids, her sister Sandra Reed and her husband Richard of Cedar Rapids, her nieces Kelly Reed of Des Moines and Alynsia Bell of Pheonix, Arizona, her nephews Craig Reed of Cedar Rapids and Solon Bell and his wife Candida of Phoenix, Arizona, her aunts Bernice Tillman of Cedar Rapids and Norma Chinn and her husband Talmage of Kansas City, Kansas, many cousins, great nieces, great nephews, and friends.
Her father, Allen Bell, preceded her in death.
Sharilyn was a member of the South East Church of Christ. She was the founding member of the Psalms gospel music group. In her spare time she made flavored popcorn and hoped to one day open her own business selling her product. She loved and cherished her friends, family, and especially her son.
