Charles J. Banks 79, of 3505 English Glen Ave, Marion, died Friday, July 27, 2007, at Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids, following a short illness. Memorial services with military honors will be held at a later date. Arrangements by Cedar Memorial Funeral Home.
Survivors include his wife Donna, two sisters Jean Mazur of Burlington, Iowa, and Mary Ferley of Brooklyn Center, Minnesota, a brother John Banks and wife Pat of Florence, South Carolina, many nieces and nephews, and his dear friend Middy the family cat. He was preceded in death by his parents, and a twin brother who died shortly after birth.
Charles was born August 22, 1927 in Waterloo, Iowa to Charles M. and Marguerite Bennett Banks. He served in the US Navy during WW II. He married
Donna Lane on October 14, 1955 in Yankton, South Dakota. He worked for Square D for 25 years retiring in 1985, at Palatine, Illinois.

Irwin K. Dunn

Irwin K. Dunn, of 1106 Weeber Street in Iowa City, formerly of Cedar Rapids died Saturday April 9, 2011 at the University of Iowa Hospitals after a sudden illness. Services at 11:00 AM on Thursday at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Entombment at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery where there will also be military rites. Friends may call at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 4 to 7 PM on Wednesday.
Survivors include his wife, Joan, a daughter Lori Dunn of Chicago, Illinois, three step-sons, Steven McCall and Christopher McCall both of Pensacola, Florida and Richard McCall of Ames. He is also survived by two grandchildren, Kelsey Northcutt, Jordan Owens and one great grandchild Alexis Northcutt. He was preceded in death by his first wife Janet and two sons, Michael and Jay.
Irwin was born on January 17, 1935 in Cedar Rapids, the son of Iva and Esther Johnson Dunn. He graduated from the University of Iowa in 1959 where he excelled in baseball for the Iowa team. Irwin worked at Square D and retired from there after more than 25 years of service. He married
Joan L. McCall on October 31, 1993 in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Irwin was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, the Society of Electrical Engineers, National Management Association, the Iowa Hawkeye Alumni Association as well as proudly serving in the Army with the 101st Airborne Division. He enjoyed all sports, especially the Iowa Hawkeyes.

LaVerne A. Bowers, 76, of 200 Broadmore Rd NW, died Monday, August 20, 2007, in Mercy Medical Center following a long illness. Services with military honors at 11 AM Friday in Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. Rev. Mike Morgan of the First United Methodist Church in Marion will officiate. Burial in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Funeral Home from 5 to 8 PM on Thursday and at the chapel after 10:30 AM on Friday.
Survivors include his children Peggy Strait, Michael Bowers, Cindy Kane and husband Ralph, John Bowers and wife Janet, Dan Bowers, Brian Bowers, Tammy Courtney and husband Richard, all of Cedar Rapids, two sisters Lorraine Adam and husband Dale of Manchester, Iowa, and Dorothy Hartke of Colesburg, Iowa, eleven grandchildren, and seven great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Shirley, sister Edna, Brother Delbert, and daughter in law Cindy.
LaVerne was born December 21, 1930 in Greeley, Iowa to Arthur and Edith Brady Bowers. He married
Shirley Ann Milligan on December 21, 1957 in the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. He served with the us Navy for 2 years, Army 2 years, and the Airforce for 16 years including during the Vietnam War. He worked in maintenance at St. Luke's Hospital and then was a truck driver for Baker Paper Company. He enjoyed playing cards, square dancing, and spending time with his family and friends.
Military honors by Hanford American Legion Post No 5.

Elizabeth Butterfield

Elizabeth "Chris" Butterfield, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died August 26, 2007, at her home, with her family around her, after a valiant fight with Pulmonary Fibrosis.
She is survived by her husband, Glade; three sons, Paul Freida, Tim Jan, and Greg Lisa; sisters Peggy Hawkey, and Renee Dabbs, both of Cambridge, England; and grandchildren Zack, Graham, Reid, Cort, and Alexandra.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and sisters Doris, Vera, and Ivy.
Chris was born April 18, 1924, in Cambridge, England, the daughter of Sydney Wilderspin and Kate Lee Witt Wilderspin. She proudly served with the Royal Observer Corps during World War II. She met her husband, Glade, at a USO dance. They were married
March 22, 1945, in St. Barnabas Episcopal Church, in Cambridge. They returned at Iowa after the war.
Chris loved golf and playing bridge with her "GNO" friends. She loved entertaining. Chris spent many happy weekends in Guttenberg, on the Mississippi, with their family and friends. She served for 20 years on the Altar Guilds of St. John's and Christ Church Episcopal. Chris and her family are very grateful to the wonderful nurses and aides of Cedar Rapids Hospice of Mercy for their excellent care and friendship.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Camp Courageous.
Private family services will be held at a later date. Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Elizabeth T. "Betty" "Zizi" Burianek, 94, a resident of West Ridge Care Center in Cedar Rapids left this earth Saturday, September 1, 2007 due to complications of old age. A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, September 15, 2007 at 1:00 P.M. at the Cedar Memorial Park Family Center. Inurnment is private.
Elizabeth was born July 13, 1913 in Cedar Rapids, only child of Elizabeth King and Charles Burianek. She graduated from Grant High School in 1931 and Coe College in 1935 with a double major in English and Speech. Elizabeth went on later to obtain her Master's Degree from the University of Wisconsin, Madison in 1952. Her teaching career started in Gladbrook, IA. In 1937 Elizabeth moved back to Cedar Rapids and began her long association in the Cedar Rapids School District. She taught English at Franklin High School and later became a counselor at Franklin. When Washington High School opened in 1958 she was a counselor who helped many students prepare for careers after high school. In semi-retirement Elizabeth worked at Johnson Elementary until her retirement in 1979. Even during retirement she continued to volunteer many hours to the school system. After the passing of her mother in 1982, Elizabeth volunteered for the Head Start program which helped her to realize the achievement of her life time goal of teaching Kindergarten.
She was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church, Chada Pautz Society, Bluff View Ladies Aid and a loyal benefactor to the Cedar Rapids Community Arts and Theatre programs.
She leaves behind a family of cousins and her special caregivers Sandra, Therese and Dave and Edward and Mary Ann, also many lifelong friends. She will be deeply missed by all who loved her.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Willis Dady Emergency Shelter, the HeadStart through HACAP, or to Hospice of St. Luke's.
Marion Christina Burlingame

Marion C. Burlingame, 87, a resident of Northbrook Manor, died there Wednesday September 26, 2007 following a short illness. Services: 10:30 A.M. Monday at Cedar Memorial- Grant Wood Chapel by the Rev. Beth Straw from St. James United Methodist Church. Visitation will be Sunday from 4-6 pm at Cedar Memorial-Grant Wood Chapel at 800 Second Ave S.E. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Survivors include her children, Sandra Cook and husband Kenneth of Cedar Rapids, a son, Charles Raymond Burlingame and wife Sharon of Coralville, 7grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.
Her husband Raymond, a sister, Ester Ray, a grandson, Shane Burlingame and her parents preceded her in death.
Marion was born May 19, 1920 in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of Harry and Ina Quimby Rowe. She married
Benjamin Raymond Burlingame on June 18, 1938 in Cedar Rapids. She was a homemaker. Marion was a member of St. James United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women Society and the Silver Club. She enjoyed camping and crocheting. The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff of Northbrook Manor for the loving care they gave her.
