In his long lifetime, Ken was known by other names besides Dad and Grampy. His Navy PC crewmates during WWII called him "Nippy," while some postal employees and tax customers, noting the resemblance between a well-known scientist and Ken during his "long hair" days dubbed him "Einstein." Whatever title he wore at the time, Ken will always be remembered for having a story, knowing your great-grandpa, and working hard to support his large family. He was employed by such landmark Cedar Rapids institutions as Sanford's, Penick and Ford and LeFebure. He learned the income tax trade by working at the Internal Revenue Service, and was seasonally self-employed while working full-time for thirty years with the U.S. Postal Service until his retirement in 1979. After that, Ken could be seen biking around city streets visiting his kids or doing errands. Two-fer-Tuesdays usually found him in his Rambler station wagon with a few grandkids in tow, stocking up at the bakery. He became a caretaker to his grandchildren, instant authority on laundry and dishwashing, and remained ever the storyteller and generous grumbuff the family has loved for so many years.

Evelyne and all the family thank the staff at Living Center East for their part helping Ken since his stroke. We know he appreciated your care and kindness, and hope you all got one last hand-kiss from the old gentleman.

Instead of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made in Ken's memory to the American Red Cross, 6300 Rockwell Drive NE, Cedar Rapids, IA 52410 or online at http://american.redcross.org/.
