Velma L. Brady, 84, of 1103 Brockman Dr. SE, died Thursday, December 27, 2007, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy following a long illness. Services at 1 PM Wednesday in Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. Rev. Tammy Buseman of First Baptist Church-Church of the Brethren will officiate. Burial in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call at the chapel after noon on Wednesday. Arrangements by Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.
Survivors include her daughter Connie Hultquist of Marion, two sons Scott Brady, and Kirk Brady and wife Shelly all of Rural Central City, a brother Roy Canaday and wife Charlene of Douds, Iowa, grandchildren, James, Christiane, John, David, and Dan Hultquist, and Mary Holub, and Brian and Ashley Brady, and 5 great grandchildren, Kambree, David, Romeo, and Anastasia Hultquist, and Zack Brady. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sisters Lucile Fletcher, and Eileen Kunzman, and two brothers Clarence and Earl Canaday, a great granddaughter Chloe Holub, son in law Jim Hultquist, and daughter in law Kristin Brady.
Velma was born March 9, 1923, in Ottumwa, Iowa to Ernest and Fern Scearcy Canaday. She married
Francis Brady on July 3, 1942 in Lancaster, Missouri. He died June 7, 2001.
She was a homemaker.
Velma will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Robert O. Bradley

Robert O. Bradley, 85, a resident of the Hiawatha Care Center, formerly of Cedar Rapids, died there Sunday, January 6, 2008 following a long illness. Services with military honors will be held at 10:30 AM Thursday in Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories with Rev. Ken Glandorf, chaplain at Mercy Medical Center officiating. Entombment in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 5 to 7 PM on Wednesday and at the chapel after 10 AM on Thursday.
Survivors include his children, Bobbi Bob Colby and Kathy Bradley all of Cedar Rapids, Scott Diane Bradley of Florida, Rod Bradley of Chicago, and Kurt Marlene Bradley of Tennessee, 13 grandchildren, and 7 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Opal, on January 20, 2003.
Robert was born June 22, 1922 in Lamont, Iowa. He was raised by his mother, Hattie Wolfe. On December 31, 1945 he was united in marriage to Opal A. Parkis, who he cherished for 62 years. The couple raised their five children in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
Robert was a veteran of World War II and the Korean War, serving with the 113th Red Horse Calvary as a Captain. Next to his family, his service to his country was one of his greatest sources of pride. Among his decorations were the Silver Star, three Bronze Stars, and three Purple Hearts. Robert was Knighted by the government of Belgium for his role in liberating their country. He was a founding partner of Engineering Associates until he retired in 1983. He served on the board of the Jayne Boyd Community Center, was a member of the Masons, the El Kahir Shrine Temple, the VFW, the American Legion, and the Junior Chamber of Commerce.
The children of Robert would like to extend special thanks to Jim Hynes, a former business partner and friend that demonstrated a committed and faithful friendship to their father; Kent Walton and the staff at Hiawatha Care Center for all the kindness and care give to Robert and the family; and to our 29th Street gang for the good memories.

Fred R. Donisthorpe, 55, of Waterloo, died Thursday October 16, 2008 at Allen Memorial Hospital after a lengthy illness. Services: 2:00 p.m. Wednesday at Cedar Memorial Westside Chapel where friends may call after 1:00 p.m. The Rev. William B. Harnish will officiate. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Fredrick Rollin Donisthorpe was born June 8, 1953 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the son of Frederick J. and Helen (Heald) Donisthorpe. He grew up in Cedar Rapids but has lived at Country View Care Center in Waterloo for the past nineteen years.
He is survived by his sister, Carol (Gus) Glaser of Chatfield, MN; his nephew, Chad (Heather) Glaser of Dexter, MN, his niece, Dawn (Gary) Schad of Chatfield, MN; three great nieces and two great nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents as well as his grandparents Frederick S. (Freda) Donisthorpe and Rollin (Verlie) Heald.

James Richard Douglas (a.k.a. Doug), 74, of Cedar Rapids Iowa and Merritt Island FL, passed away on Sunday, July 24, 2011 at the Hospice House of Mercy. Services will be held Thursday, July 28, 2011 at 11:00 a.m., at the First Church of the Open Bible. Visitation will be held 1 hour before the service. Arrangements entrusted to Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.
Survivors are his loving wife, Marilyn Douglas; three daughters, Tammi (Sonnie) Crawford, Kathy Moss, and Meta (Tim) Allen; two sons, Rodney Douglas and Jim (Becky) Metcalf.
James was preceded in death by his parents along with several brothers and sisters.
James was born January 15, 1937 in Albia, Iowa; the son of John and Bertha Fraizer Douglas. He married
Marilyn Freese on June 8, 1990 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. James served his country honorably in the United States Army. He worked for Hy-Vee before retiring after 32 years. Some of James's favorite pastimes were fishing and camping, but above all he loved spending time in church and also with his grandchildren. James was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend who will be dearly missed by all who loved him. He is now with his Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ, whom he loved with all of his heart.

Faith E. Burris, 82, of 104 Wilson Ct. in Anamosa, died Monday, January 7, 2008, in the Jones County Regional Medical Center in Anamosa, following a short illness. Memorial services will be held at 1 PM Thursday in the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery in Cedar Rapids. Rev. Bryan Crousore of First Congregational United Church of Christ will officiate. Friends may visit with the family from 4 to 7 PM on Wednesday at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home and at the chapel after 12:30 PM on Thursday.
Survivors include two sons David Larson and wife Patti of Anamosa, and Steve Bammert of Mason City, Iowa, a daughter in law Sue Larson of Anamosa, two step daughters Connie McAnally of Ridgecrest, California, and Faira Sens and special friend David of Palisades, Colorado, three step sons Greg Burris and wife Marla of Marion, Iowa, David Burris and wife Kathy of Kansas City, Missouri, and Bob Burris and wife Betty of Manchester, Iowa, twenty two grandchildren, and twenty great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a son Phillip Larson, a great granddaughter Madison Larson Tallman, and a brother Carlton Latta.
Faith was born September 30, 1925 in Anamosa to Claude and Mertie Smith Latta. She graduated from Anamosa High School in 1943. She married
Donald E. “Bunny” Burris on June 13, 1970 in Iowa City, Iowa. He died February 17, 2007. She worked in production for Wilson and Company for 25 years retiring in 1983. She was a member of First Congregational United Church of Christ in Anamosa. Faith and Bunny spent many years traveling in their motor home to Texas, and Florida.
Faith was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established.

Robert Leonard Barta, 80, of 610 10th Ave S.W., went to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday January 9, 2008 at Heritage Nursing & Rehab following a long illness. Services: 10:30 A.M. Monday at Trinity Lutheran Church by the Rev. Jonathon Offt. Visitation will be on Sunday at Cedar Memorial Westside Chapel from 2-5 p.m. and after 9:30 A.M. Monday at the church. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Surviving includes his wife of 58 years, Alice Barta, a sister in law, Laura Ruble of Cedar Rapids, his nieces and nephews, Patricia and Lynn Stubberfield, Steve and Sandy, Karen, Sue and John, Kathi and Kurt, Scott and Beth, Loretta and Gary, Edward and Angle, and Cynthia.
His parents and a sister, Reva Tinsley preceded him in death.
He was born November 3, 1927 in Cedar Rapids, the son of Adolph and Letha Horr Barta. He married
Alice L. Smothers on April 16, 1949 in Cedar Rapids. Robert worked for the Nash Finch Company from 1952 until 1981. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, where he was an usher and active in their Fellowship & Joy Group. He enjoyed fishing, camping, dancing and was very proud of his Czech Heritage. The family would like to extend a special thanks to his niece, Loretta, Dr. Whitters, Dr. Kozeny, Dr. Hilliard, the staff at Heritage Nursing & Rehab, Amenity Hospice and his special nurses, Paula and Alana for the loving care they gave him.
