Edith Dvorak, 92, of Cedar Rapids, died October 13, 2011 at Northbrook Manor Care Center following an extended illness. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, October 17, 2011 at the Cedar Memorial Funeral Home. Rev. Rick Gail of First Assembly of God Church will officiate. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Ruth Ellen Brown

Ruth Ellen (Ruthie) Brown, 76, of Cottage Grove Place, formerly of Marion passed away on April 3, 2009. She courageously battled a second bout with cancer. A Visitation will be held from 4:00 – 7:00 pm Saturday, April 4, at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held Sunday, April 5 at 2:00 p.m. at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories with Rev. James Evans officiating. Entombment will be in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Ruth was born May 17, 1932, in Long Beach, CA to Ray and Ellen Sheets. She graduated from Windom High School in Windom, MN. She attended both Northwestern Bible College and Bethel College in St. Paul, MN. She was united in marriage to Kenneth L. Brown on June 18, 1955, in Windom, MN.
Survivors include her husband Ken; two sons, Steve (Teri) Lake City, MN and Jeff (Lori) Marion; five grandchildren, Jessica, Amanda, Stephanie, Keith and Kurt; brother Bob (Ruth) Sheets of Maquoketa; brothers & sisters-in-law Jim & Sharon Evans of NC, Bill & Elaine Bell of FL, Roger McDonald of IL, and many nieces, nephews, and countless close friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Richard and sisters-in-law Ruth Jean Quinn, Mary Kay McDonald, and brother-in-law John Quinn.
Ruthie worked 27 years as a Hostess for Rockwell Collins introducing new employees and families to our community. She also worked part time at First National Bank, Farmers State Bank, volunteered at St. Luke’s Hospital, and ushered for both the Cedar Rapids Symphony and Community Theatre. She was a charter member of the Cedar Rapids Concert Chorale. Ruthie was a member of New Covenant Bible Church.
Ruthie was known for her Christian Faith, infectious smile and for standing by her faithful, loving husband, two sons and their families. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends.
The family wishes to thank Cottage Grove Place and St. Luke’s Hospice for their caring support through Ruthie’s recent illness.
A memorial fund has been established.

Eleanor M. Bowser, 90, of the Keystone Cedars died there on Monday April 6, 2009 after a sudden illness. Services at 11 AM on Thursday at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Rev. Howard Chapman will officiate. Burial at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 4 to 7 PM on Wednesday.
Survivors include three sons, Gordon (Diana Lynn); David, (Linda) all of Marion; and Michael (Mary) of Atlanta, Georgia; a daughter, Janice (Jack) Gilmour of Cedar Rapids and one sister, Betty (Frank) Ross of Marion. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren and 5 great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, an infant daughter, Barbara, a grandson, Michael McGrew and two brothers.
Eleanor was born on Aug. 18, 1918 in Marion, the daughter of Edward and Blanche Tudeen Lochner. She married
Virgil L. Bowser on Feb. 4, 1938 in Marion. He died in 2008. Eleanor was a homemaker. She was a member of the Marion First Presbyterian Church and the Hiawatha Camping Group. Eleanor enjoyed ceramics, playing cards and bingo and especially enjoyed time spent with her many friends and beloved family. She was a wonderful person; kind, generous and thoughtful. Memorial donations may be given to the American Diabetes Association Iowa Affiliation or the Marion First Presbyterian Church.

On April 9, 2009 Norbert Brasser, 80, was taken home to be with the Lord. Norb was born on July 20, 1928 in Oostburg, Wisconsin to Jacob and Alida Brasser. He graduated from the University of Wisconsin- Madison and worked as an insurance agent. He was Vice President of Iowa National and Grinnell Mutual, retiring in 1995.
Norbert married
Nora Ruselink on May 17, 1952 in Hingham, Wisconsin. They had three children. Norbert was an active member of Peace Christian Reformed Church serving as an elder for many years. He enjoyed gardening and working with Boy Scouts.
He is survived by his wife, his children, Cheryl Ver Hulst, Wisconsin Rapids, David, Cedar Rapids, and Susan Brasser, San Diego. He is also survived by two grandchildren, Jennifer Ver Hulst, Milwaukee, Matthew Ver Hulst, Wisconsin Rapids, and one great grandchild, Cobi Ver Hulst.
Services 1:00 PM, Saturday at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Rev. Don Griffioen will officiate. Entombment at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral from 4 to 7 PM on Friday.

Maxine Brooks DeWees, 89, formerly of Cedar Rapids, passed away in Edina, MN on Saturday, January 30, 2010. Services: 11 a.m. Friday at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Interment: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.
Survivors include a son, Jerry (Susan) DeWees of Edina, MN; sister, Joan Sturtz of Marion; and grandchildren, Alexander (Shelley) and Katelyn DeWees. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Neal; and two brothers, Donald and Evert Brooks.
Maxine was born October 19, 1920 in Marion to Evert and Anna Brooks. She married
Neal L. DeWees there on May 23, 1942. She was an over 50 year member of the First United Methodist Church in Marion. She worked at Northwestern Bell, La Plante Choate, and Armstrong's. She enjoyed golf, bowling, fishing and gardening, and crocheted afghans for weddings and births of relatives.

Geneva I. Bartlett, 85, of 2135 1st Ave. SE died Wednesday April 22, 2009 at Mercy Medical Center after a short illness. Services will be at 1:00 PM on Friday at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Burial at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 5 to 7 PM on Thursday.
She is survived by a sister, Corda McClure of Havana, Illinois, four nieces, Shirlee Clark, Paulette Howard, Linda David, Crystal Stuffelbean and a brother-in law- John Peterson. She was preceded in death by a son, Harold V. Stokley, three sisters and four brothers.
Geneva was born on May 28, 1923 in Havana, Illinois, the daughter of Clarence and Myrtle Gilmore Huston. She married
Max L. Bartlett on Dec. 31, 1965 in Blue Earth, Minnesota. He died in 2006. Geneva was a homemaker. Memorial donation may be given to Faith Bible Church.

LaVonne R. Baird, 84, of Evergreen Estates II died Friday May 22, 2009 at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha after a short illness. Services at 3:00 PM on Tuesday at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Rev. Bill Warhover will officiate. Burial at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 2 to 4 PM on Monday.
Survivors include three brothers, Donald (Maryann) Schlotfelt of Palo, James (Ardella) Schlotfelt of Cedar Rapids and Richard Schlotfelt of Canyon County, California; two sisters, Dorothea Kulatala of Keokuk and Joan Campbell of Bradenton, Florida. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ray, one sister, Virginia and four brothers, John, Robert, Roger and Thomas.
LaVonne was born on Aug. 21, 1924 in LaPorte City, the daughter of John and Pearl Gillan Schlotfelt. She married
Raymond M. Baird on Aug. 13, 1945 in Cedar Falls. He died in 1992. LaVonne worked at Quaker Oats for five years and later at Collins-Radio where she retired from after 25 years of service. LaVonne enjoyed putting puzzles together and especially spending time with her family and many friends.
