After returning from the service, he earned his PhD. from the University of Pittsburgh. Kenneth and his family moved to Cedar Rapids in 1954, where he began a career as a professor of biology at Coe College. Until his retirement in 1985, Dr. Cook taught anatomy and physiology to many Coe and St. Luke's Nursing School students who went on to become doctors, nurses, dentists, and teachers. It gave him great satisfaction to be involved in the education of so many people who went on to help others. He was also fortunate to be surrounded by colleagues he liked and respected, and with whom he formed life long friendships. Teaching was his first love, although he continued an active interest in research. In 1978 Dr. Cook was named to the endowed Heins-Johnson Chair at Coe College, which he held until his retirement. After retirement he and Helen became involved in the Elderhostel program, and had many satisfying adventures attending different programs and meeting new people. The family wishes to thank the staffs of Bickford Cottage and Crestview Acres Care Center in Marion for their many kindnesses.
