Peter D. Carper, 61, Bethany Manor in Story City, formerly Cedar Rapids and Ames died at Bethany Manor on Tuesday July 29, 2008 after a short illness. Services at 1:00 PM on Friday in Cedar Rapids at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories where friends may register after 12:30 PM. Burial at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Memorial services will also be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday at the Memorial Lutheran Church in Ames.
Survivors include numerous cousins, many friends and his guardians, John and Penny Wierson of Nevada, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Peter was born on July 2, 1947 in Cedar Rapids, the son of Joseph and Berniece Douglas Carper. At the age of 9 months, Peter entered Woodward School, received his education and resided there until the age of 19. He lived the rest of his life in Story County. Peter did various jobs ranging from kitchen help to filling vending machines. He was loved by many and never met a stranger. Peter enjoyed watching John Wayne and Elvis Presley movies, attending Church at Memorial Lutheran Church, attending One Heart Horse Therapy in Nevada and competing in the Special Olympics. Memorial donations may be given to Story County Community Life in Peter's name.

Thomas L. Connolly, 74, of Fountain Hills, AZ formerly of Cedar Rapids, died July 30, 2008 in Aspen, Colorado following a short illness. Funeral Mass will be held 10:30 AM, Tuesday, August 5, 2008 at All Saints Catholic Church. Rev. David O'Connor will officiate. Friends may call from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Monday, August 4, 2008 at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home, where a vigil service will take place at 6:30 PM that evening. Interment will be held at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Military honors will be held by American Legion Hanford Post # 5.
Survivors include his children Monica Cary Heizenrader of Fountain Hills, AZ, Brenda Brett Stratton of Tyler, Texas, Mary Lou Bill McCartan of Cedar Rapids, Tom Jodi Connolly, Jr. of Iowa City, Paul Connolly of New York, NY, and Erin Connolly of Aspen, Colorado. Also surviving are his sister Kathy Sparks of Des Moines, his beloved grand children Holly, Heidi, Steven, Tommy, Catherine, Claire, Will, Kerry, Kate, Augustine, and Cash; and his dogs Ginger and Geronimo.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Jolene Connolly, his daughter Carrie Connolly, his brother Robert Connolly, and his brother in law Mike Sparks.
Thomas Lloyd Connolly was born October 5, 1933 in Cedar Rapids, the beloved son of Lloyd Thomas and Catherine Woods Connolly. He was a graduate of Immaculate Conception High School, and attended Loras College. He served his country honorably in the United States Army during the Korean War. He was united in marriage to Jolene on September 3, 1960 in Walton, Illinois. She preceded him in death on June 16, 1997. He was owner of the Tobacco Bowl in Cedar Rapids from 1970 to 1998. Tom was a man who will be remembered as a real character that enjoyed life. He also enjoyed cars, volunteering, his dogs, and was a friend of Bill W. He will be greatly missed but fondly remembered by those left to grieve his passing.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Thomas' honor may be made to the ARC of East Central Iowa.

** Patricia M. Cornell, 69, of 1417 Mary Dr. in Marion died Friday Sept. 12, 2008 at Mercy Medial Center after an extended illness. Survivors include two sons, Todd Ellie of Marion, Craig of Alabama, a daughter, Annette Tony Hopfensperger of Appleton, Wisconsin and a brother, Terry Kyle of Alabama. She is also survived by six grandchildren, Nathaniel, BreyAunna, Anthony Cheryl, Dustin, Amber and Michael Alicia, and four great grandchildren, Titan, Odessa, William and Damion. She was preceded in death by her husband and parents.
Pat was born on April 26, 1939 in Cedar Rapids the daughter of Milver and Mary Bown Kyle. She married
Carl Cornell on Jan. 11, 1958 in Cedar Rapids. He died in 1991. Pat was a homemaker and a member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles. She enjoyed crafts, crocheting, cooking and especially time spent with her beloved family. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established.

Timothy F. Canney 44, of 1503 Maplewood Dr. NE, died Wednesday, September 17, 2008, at University Hospital in Iowa City, from injuries received in an auto accident August 29, 2008 in Cedar Rapids. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 AM Saturday at St. Pius X Catholic Church. Rev. Dennis Cahill will officiate. Entombment at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 4 to 8 PM on Friday with a Vigil service beginning at 7 PM.
Surviving to honor his memory are his wife Lisa, daughter Meghan, parents Don and Gloria Canney of Cedar Rapids, two brothers Kevin Sue Canney of Cedarburg, Wisconsin, and Mike Paulette Canney of Cedar Rapids, father and mother in law Bill and Jan Kuba of Cedar Rapids, grandmother Lovell McGillicuddy of Cedar Rapids, two brother in laws Mike Tammi Kuba of Palo, and Matt Kathy Kuba of Cedar Rapids, and 10 nieces and nephews, Noah, Alex, Isabelle, Sieger, Gwendalyn, Alaina, Jack, Ben, Erin, and Emily.
Tim was born October 17, 1963 in Cedar Rapids. He married
Lisa A. Kuba on June 4, 1988 in Cedar Rapids. He was a social services counselor for many years. He was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church, and the National Rifle Association. He enjoyed gun shows, hunting, coin collecting, teaching religious education classes at St. Pius, and spending time with his family. His greatest passion was making a difference in the lives of others. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Joseph Frank Cerveny, 92, of Cedar Rapids, died at home on the farm he loved on Sunday, September 21, 2008, from complications of age. Services: 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Hus Memorial Presbyterian Church by the Rev. Heather Hayes. Interment: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. A visitation will be held Wednesday at Cedar Memorial Westside Chapel from 5 to 7 p.m. with a Masonic Service by Fidelatis Lodge #364 of Fairfax beginning at 7 p.m. Arrangements are with Cedar Memorial Westside Chapel.
Survivors include his loving wife, Esther, of 67 years; daughter, Joanne George Chadima of Fairfax; and son, Dale Gail Cerveny of Gresham, Oregon; sister-in-law, Irene Bontty of Cedar Rapids; three grandchildren, G. Daniel Jodie Chadima, of Swisher and Darrick Michelle Chadima, all of Fairfax, and Tamara Goeffrey Maddaford of Centennial, Colorado; eight grandchildren, Arik, Miriam, John, Samuel, and Titus Chadima of Fairfax, and Calvin, Sophia, and Sarah Chadima of Swisher.
Joseph was born on November 19, 1915 in rural Linn County to Joseph and Stella Petrak Cerveny. Joe married
Esther Marie Plucar on August 12, 1941 t the Czech Reform Church in Cedar Rapids.. He lived and farmed all his life in the Century Farm on which he was born. Joseph greatly enjoyed farming his land along with his love for carpentry, woodworking, planting many fruit trees and a love for music. He played in various bands in Cedar Rapids and was a member of the WMT Bohemian Band for many years. Joseph was a 50 year member of Hus Memorial Presbyterian Church where he served as deacon and elder and helped with building the new church. He was Past Master of the Fidelatis Lodge #364 of Fairfax, Past Worthy Patron of Fairest Chapter OES of Fairfax, member of the Consistory and El Kahir Shrine of Cedar Rapids, all over 50 years. He belonged to the Linn County Farm Bureau and was a member of the National Czech and Slovak Museum. Joseph volunteered at the Linn County Food Bank.
Joseph was a wonderful husband, loving father, and devoted to his family and friends. He was greatly loved by those whose lives he touched. The family would like to thank the doctors and staff of St. Luke's Hospice for their loving care given to Joseph.

Betty Jean Chehak, 84, 2115 First Ave SE died Monday, October 13, 2008 at Cottage Grove Place following a brief illness. Friends are invited to Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home on Thursday from 5PM to 8PM with an informal service at 7PM. The Rev. James Langley of Westminster Presbyterian Church will officiate.
Surviving are two sons, John C. Chehak (Deborah) of Cedar Rapids and Thomas A. Chehak (Susan) of Los Angles, CA; four grandchildren; and three step-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, John Dean Chehak in 1995.
Betty was born March 15, 1924 in Omaha, Nebraska the daughter of Carl T. and Mary (Budin) Bachmann. She married
John Dean Chehak on December 21, 1946 in Cedar Rapids. She was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, the Cedar Rapids Garden Club, the Junior League and the Ladies Literary Club.

Leland G. Dankert, 84, of 2115 1st Ave SE, died Sunday, June 6, 2010, at his home. Services will be held at 11 AM Saturday in Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Cheryl McCullough Hospice Chaplain with Essence of Life Hospice will officiate. Entombment with military honors in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 PM Friday at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home, and at the chapel after 10:30 AM on Saturday.
Survivors include a son Kelton of Seattle, Washington, daughter Sheryl (Randy) Combs of Cedar Rapids, four grandchildren, Matt Brown, Maria Clark, Teresa Porter, and Terrall Clark, four great grandchildren Jon Clark, Christopher and Allison Mosbeck and Josh Tran, and one great great grandson Branden Clark. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, a son John, and one great granddaughter Kiria Clark.
Leland was born January 12, 1926 in Prairieburg, Iowa, to Fred and Mary Riechen Dankert. He married
Lana “Dutch” Sents on March 3, 1951 in Iowa City, Iowa. She died in 2002. He was production manager at Universal Engineering for over 40 years. He was a member of American Legion Post # 727. He enjoyed Gardening, walking, and watching football especially the Iowa Hawkeyes. He also enjoyed remodeling and painting houses.
