Florence M. Carpenter, 91, of 4103 Hawk Ave. SW died Saturday October 24, 2009 at Mercy Medical Center. Services at 1:00 PM on Wednesday at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories where there will also be military rites. Friends may call at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 5 to 8 PM on Tuesday.
Survivors include two daughters, Wendy Kay (David) Larison and Karen (Tom Nassif) Ruhd-Nassif all of Cedar Rapids; two sons, Kenneth (Lana) of Bartow, Florida, Richard (Lu) of West Burlington and a sister, Elsie Coe of Sherman, Illinois. She is also survived by 6 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and a brother, Gordon Thornburgh.
Florence was born on September 30, 1918 in Springfield, Illinois, the daughter of Andrew and Mildred Cline Thornburgh. She Married Richard A. Carpenter on May 23, 1946 in Springfield, Illinois. He died in 1996. Florence was a member of the American Legion in Winter Haven, Florida and proudly served in the Women’s Army Corps during WWII. She enjoyed crocheting; making many Afghans for the domestic Violence shelter over the years and cheering on the Chicago Cubs. Florence was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother who will be greatly missed by her beloved family. In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to Camp Courageous in Florence’s name.

Edwin Richard Carnal

Edwin Richard Carnal, 89, of Marion , died Wednesday, October 28, 2009, at Northbrook Manor Care Center in Cedar Rapids . A private Celebration of Life will take place at a later date.
Survivors include his wife Helen; a daughter Barb (Bill) Clark of St Charles, MO and a daughter Bobbette Carnal of Marion, a brother Donn Carnal, 7 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a daughter Mary Willa Byers and his parents.
Richard was born October 30, 1919, the son of Edwin and Grace (Kentner) Carnal in Tama , IA. He was married
to Helen L. Rugg for 71 years. He was a veteran having served in the Army during WWII.

JEAN ELLEN CARSTENS, 62, of Cedar Rapids passed away on Tuesday, November 10, 2009 at the St. Luke’s Methodist Hospital in Cedar Rapids. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 12, 2009 at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Pastor Ron Morrow will officiate with burial at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 4 - 7 p.m. on Wednesday at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.
Jean is survived by her three children, Christine Santaguida and husband Phil of Highland, IN.; Alan Fear and wife Kathy of Cedar Rapids, and John Fear and wife Ruth of Cedar Rapids; Eight grandchildren, Holly & Eric Santaguida of Highland, IN., Megan & Tyler Fear of Cedar Rapids, and Todd, Luke, Kyle, & Jack Fear of Cedar Rapids; two brothers, Bob Carstens of Cedar Rapids and Kenny Carstens and wife Val of Fairfax, IA.; and sister Kathy Staskal and husband Vern of Mount Vernon, IA.; several loving nieces, nephews and cousins, and long time friends Lynn Fear and Carol Mitchell. Jean had many friends in the MHDD Supervised Apartment Living Program (SAL), especially her counselor Cindy Locke and friend Shawn. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Jean was born on May 7, 1947 in Cedar Rapids to Charles G. Carstens and Eileen Darrow Carstens. A lifelong resident of Cedar Rapids, she attended Fillmore Elementary and Roosevelt Junior High. She married
Lynn Fear of Hopkinton, IA, January 21, 1967 and they were married
for 18 years. Jean enjoyed crocheting and various crafts, watching the Iowa Hawkeyes, singing in the choir, listening to music and walking. As a child she was a baton twirler and played accordion. She loved her family. She will be greatly missed.
The family wishes to thank the wonderful medical and social services staff who have taken care of her over the years, including Dr. Justice, Dr. Metzger, Dr. Kozeny, Dr. Richards, Dr. Penningroth, Dr. Zenk, Dr. Collette, Dr. Kopesky, Dr. Cruise, Abbe Case Management, The Abbe Center for Community Mental Health, Milestones, Linn County Mental Health and Developmental Disabilities Services (MHDD), and the staff of St. Luke’s Hospital and Living Center West.

Jack M. Capper, 81, of 1320 Litchfield Drive, Hiawatha, (formerly of 825 4th Street SW in Cedar Rapids) died Wednesday, November 11, 2009. Funeral services with military honors will be held at 1 PM Saturday in Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Rev. Jack Kendall will officiate. Burial in Oak Shade Cemetery in Marion. Visitation from 5 to 7 PM Friday in Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.
Survivors include his children, Judy (Michael) Sisco of Cedar Rapids, Elsie (Robert) Armstrong of Cedar Rapids, Donald (Sheral) Irons of Marion, Robert (Ellen) Irons of Marion, Diana Byrum of San Antonio, Texas, and Lois Algueseva of Cedar Rapids, a brother Earl (Helen) Capper of Chicago, Illinois, and sister Betty Allen of Des Moines, Iowa, 18 grandchildren, 35 great grandchildren, and 25 great great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Lois, Brothers John, Bernard, and Pearl a sister Shirley and son Marvin Wilson.
Jack was born January 3, 1928 at Knoxville, Iowa to David and Fern Jones Capper. He married
Lois Andrews on August 30, 1952. She died March 7, 2004. He was employed by the Streets Department for the City of Cedar Rapids for several years retiring in 1993. He was a WW II US Army Veteran. He enjoyed fishing, bowling, golfing, and had a great sense of humor. His greatest love was his family especially his grandchildren.

Lorraine A. Cadwallader, 59, of 407 Main Street in Palo died Thursday Nov. 19, 2009 at her home after a long illness. Services at 11:00 AM on Monday at the Seventh Day Adventist Church. Pastor David Bissell will officiate. Inurnment at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery at 11:00 AM on Tuesday. Friends may call at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 3 to 6 PM on Sunday.
Survivors include her husband, Dennis Dye, three daughters, Bernice Cadwallader of Cedar Rapids, Colleen Kuchta of Atlanta, Georgia and Connie (Mark) Bennison of Southlake, Texas, three step-sons. Dennis (Amber) Dye Jr. of Mesa, Arizona, Quentin (Ving) Dye of Faribault, Minnesota, and Shannon (Cindy) Dye of Reno, Nevada, her father, Brijio (Lupe) Avila of El Paso, Texas, two brothers, Larry and Domingo and six sisters, Sally, Katie, Tina, Nancy, Francis, Phyllis and Chapa. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her mother, a sister Pauline, a brother, Kenny and a son, John.
Lorraine was born on March 5, 1950 in Denver, Colorado, the daughter of Brijio and Josephine Avila. She was a homemaker and a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church. Lorraine was a wonderful wife, mother, and grandmother who will be greatly missed by her beloved family.
A memorial fund has been established in Lorraine’s name.
Lester Charles Chittick

Lester C. Chittick, 89, of 202 35th Dr S.E. died Monday November 23, 2009 in the Dennis & Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha. Services: 1:00 p.m. Saturday at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories by the Rev. Beth Mary Straw of St. James United Methodist Church. Friends may call on Friday at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 4-6 p.m. and at the chapel after 12:30 p.m. on Saturday. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Survivors include two sisters, Laural Sills and husband Dale of Cedar Rapids and Leone Merchant of Vinton, and a brother, Lyle Chittick and wife Pat of Anthem, Arizona, a brother in law, Amil Steiger of Davenport, and many special nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife Clara L. Chittick, and a sister, Lucille Steiger.
Lester was born October 7, 1920 in Hartwick, Iowa the son of Roy and Ellen Mae Peterson Chittick. He married
Clara Benish on April 23, 1943 in Greenville, Mississippi. Lester worked for Cedar Rapids Water Department as a Maintenance Supervisor retiring in 1977 after 31 years of service. He was a member of St. James United Methodist Church, Elks Club and the American Legion. He served in the Army Air Corp during World War II. He enjoyed fishing and spending winters in Texas.
A memorial fund has been established for St. James United Methodist Church or Dennis & Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy.
Marianne Cameron
Born in Shelbyville, IN on April 23, 1914

Marianne Cameron, 95, of Marion, died at St. Luke’s Hospital, Sunday, December 6, 2009. Per Marianne’s wishes, she has been cremated. Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
Marianne is survived by her two sons, Paul Cameron of St. Louis, MO and Alan Cameron of Key Osha, WI
She was preceded in death by her husband Cecil Paul Cameron and by her parents.
Marianne was born on April 23, 1914 in Shelbyville IN to Charles and Ann Flaitz. On June 19, 1939 Marianne married
Cecil Cameron in Ann Arbor Michigan. She began teaching for the Cedar Rapids school district in 1955 and continued to teach there until she retired in 1975. Marianne was an avid member of the Peoples Church, the AAWW, and the League of Women’s Voters.
