Ernest Crow, 86, of Blairstown, passed away on Sunday, December 13, 2009 at St. Luke’s Methodist Hospital, Cedar Rapids. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, December 19, 2009 at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Rev. David Grandon will officiate. Entombment with military honors in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 PM Friday at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.
Survivors include his children Cheryl (Ted) Hanna of Robins, Dennis Crow of Blairstown, Jan (Stanley) Oltmann of Marion, Rodney (Cindy) Crow of Luzerne, Daryl (Jan) Crow of Watkins, and Paula (Dale) Horak of Alburnett; 16 grandchildren; many great grandchildren; and special friend Lucille.
He was preceded in death by his wife Adeline, parents, two sisters, and one brother.
Ernest was born February 13, 1923 in Van Horne, the son of George and Ruth (Walters) Crow. He married
Adeline Rose Dvorak on January 16, 1943 in Cedar Rapids. Adeline preceded Ernest in death on October 16, 1997. Ernest was a United States Army veteran of WWII. He was a lifetime farmer, school bus driver, and truck driver. He was a member of the Blairstown United Methodist Church, Blairstown American Legion Post No. 170, and Farm Bureau.

Charles J. “Chuck” Corrigan, 86, a life long resident of Cedar Rapids, born July 30, 1923 in Harpers Ferry, Iowa, died Thursday January 7, 2010 in Mercy Medical Center following a short illness. Funeral Mass: 10:00 a.m. Monday at St. Matthew Catholic Church by the Rev. Mark Osterhaus. Burial: Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday from 4-7 p.m. at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home, where a vigil will begin at 7:00 p.m.
He had a 60 year marriage to Mary Eleanor “Ellie” until her passing in 2008. He is survived by his children Patrick (Meg) of Lake Elmo, MN, Michael (Jerre) of Stevens Pont, Wisconsin, and Linda of Cedar Rapids, six grandchildren, five great grandchildren and 8 brothers.
Charles retired from United Fire & Casualty Co. after 35 years and enjoyed 24 years of retirement. A life long member of St. Matthews Catholic Church, he served on its Holy Name Society and usher crew all those years as well as many more committees. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Fraternal Order of Eagles, Mended Hearts, and the American Legion of which he participated in their military Honor Guard. He also was a volunteer driver for the Cancer Society and volunteered many hours for the Alzheimer’s Society. A lifelong sportsman who loved to hunt and fish. Charles served inn the Army during World War II. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Memorials may be made to Alzheimer’s Association or camp courageous.

George D. Cropp, 86, of 1416 32nd St. NE died Sunday January 24, 2010 at Mercy Medical Center after a short illness. Services with military rites at 1:00 PM on Thursday at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Burial at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 5 to 7 PM on Wednesday.
Survivors include his wife Eleanor, and one daughter, Cathy (Jim) Cropp Scanlon of Cedar Rapids. He is also survived by three grandsons, David, Christopher and Andrew. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Howard.
George was born on January 19, 1924 in Cedar Rapids, the son of Howard and Minnie Lillinbridge Cropp. He served in the Navy during WWII. He married
Eleanor Votroubek on November 6, 1948 in Cedar Rapids. George was the district accountant for Iowa Illinois Gas and Electric Company for 39 years, retiring in 1988. He was a member of VFW Post No. 788, Marion American Legion Post No.298, and Mizpah Masonic Lodge No. 639.
George enjoyed fishing, gardening, working on cars, stock car racing and NASCAR. He was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather who will be greatly missed.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to the Shriners Transportation Fund in George’s name. Military rites by VFW Post No. 788.

Everett E. “Rick” Casteel, 60, of Cedar Rapids, died at St. Luke’s Hospital, Thursday, February 4, 2010. Funeral Mass: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at All Saints Catholic Church by the Rev. David O’Connor. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. A visitation will be held on Monday from 4 to 8 p.m. at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.
Survivors include his wife, Kristi; children, Naomi (Travis) Thompson and Joshua Casteel, all of Cedar Rapids and Rebekah (Mark) Latchis of Woodstock, MD; his mother, Betty Casteel of Sioux Falls, SD; sisters, Barbara Morean Porter of Sioux Falls, SD, Dawn Buxton of Aurora, CO, and Candice Brown of Atlanta, GA.; grandchildren, Emma, Garmai, and Madeline Thompson, James Latchis, and baby Latchis due March, 2010; and many nieces and nephews. Rick was preceded in death by his father, Everett.
Rick was born September 13, 1949 in Battle Creek, MI to Everett and Betty Casteel. He grew up primarily in Maryland and South Dakota. He graduated from Bethel College in St. Paul, MN with a math teaching degree. He taught junior high math in Richfield, MN. Rick married
Kristi Elrod on August 11, 1973 in Sioux Falls, SD. He served in the US Army and was discharged from active duty as a Captain in 1978. He then went on to the North American Baptist Seminary in Sioux Falls, SD and graduated with a Masters degree in counseling. Rick founded his own business, Air Management, in 1979 which his family continues to operate. Rick also founded Caleb Ministries, a counseling and mediation agency in Cedar Rapids, which included Man to Man Ministries. He was a member of All Saints Catholic Church where he helped start the Men of the Eucharist ministry.

Kurt A. Cullum, 57, of Cedar Rapids, died at the Hospice House of Mercy, Saturday, February 6, 2010 following a five month battle with pancreatic cancer. Services: 11 a.m. Friday at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories by the Rev. David Grandon. A visitation will be held at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home on Thursday from 3 to 8 p.m.
Kurt was born on February 3, 1953 in Bethesda, MD to Dyke and Glendoris (Wiegman) Cullum. He married
Cheryl Jones on September 2, 1972 in Hazel Green, WI. Kurt worked for 30 years with Reinhart Foodservice, with the last fourteen of those as Division President in Cedar Rapids. He loved spending time with, and cooking for family and friends. Everyone that knew him was aware of his passion for golf. He loved being on the course with his friends. He also had a love of travel and snowmobiling. He adored his grandson and new granddaughter. Kurt was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather.
Survivors include his bride, Cheryl of 37 years; children, April (Jason) Ripp of Lodi, WI and Jason Cullum and his special friend, Melissa Dean, of Dubuque; his grandchildren, Caden and Chloe Ripp; mother Glendoris Rupp of Cuba City, WI; three sisters, Carole Cullum of San Francisco, CA, Cheri (Eugene) Dumas of Janesville, WI, Linda (David) Bennett of Hazel Green, WI; a brother, Dyke Cullum of Bend, OR; four step brothers, Ron (Pat) Rupp of Tempe, AZ, Dennis (Carol) Rupp of Sun Prairie, WI, Bob (Rosanne) Rupp and Tom (Marcie) Rupp, all of Hazel Green; and step sister, Meredith (Albert) Vogt of Hazel Green. Also surviving are his mother-in-law, Dorothy Jones of Dubuque; nine sisters-in-law, Judy Kurt of Des Moines, Pamela Sloan of Indianola, Carolyn Suby of Pleasant Hill, Dorothy (Harold) Fuller, Holly (Dean) Nauman, and Tracy (Steve) Terry, all of Dubuque, Vickie (Timothy) Callahan of Cedar Rapids, Sharon (Jeff) Wischmeyer of LeRoy, MI, Lisa (Mike) Miller of Rockford, IL; three brothers-in-law, Craig (Becky) Jones and Darren Jones, all of Dubuque, Todd (Lori) Jones of Rockford, IL; and many nieces and nephews. Kurt was preceded in death by his father, step father, grandparents, father-in-law, and four brothers-in-law, John Jones, Keith Jones, Dave Suby, and Tom Sloan.
The family would like to give special thanks to Dr. Ghosh and his staff, St. Luke’s Hospice, his nurses, Amber and Marilyn, and the staff at Hospice House of Mercy.

Karl Richard Cross

Karl “Dick” Cross, 73, of 3108 Outlook Drive, SW, Cedar Rapids, died March 13, 2010 at his home following an extended illness. Memorial services will be held 11:00 AM, Tuesday, March 16, 2010 at the Cedar Memorial Westside Chapel. Pastor Darren Whiting of Calvary Baptist Church will officiate.
Surviving are his wife Joan; children Kenneth “Randy” Cross of Cedar Rapids, and Michael Cross and wife Shelly of Scottsdale, AZ; step daughter Lisa Moeller (Jeff) of Chicago; grandchildren Micaela and Marli; step grandchildren Luke and Tori; siblings Bob Cross (Judy) of Cedar Rapids, Shirley Wiggins of Cedar Rapids, and Serena Crowe of Marion; sisters-in-law Sandy Cross and Joan Cross; his cat Tiger; as well as several nieces and nephews and extended family members.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and siblings Jim and Larry Cross, and Marilyn Warner; and Hattie Cross.
Dick was born May 1, 1936 in Vinton the son of George Elward and Pauline Cross. He worked for IWI Motors and Lanter Courier service. He also had worked many years in the grocery industry. He married
Donna Chittick on November 15, 1959, they were later divorced. He married
Joan O’Brien Wray on October 15, 1992 in Kahoka, MO. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge. In earlier years he enjoyed motorcycles, riding dirt bikes, and snowmobiling. More recently, he enjoyed traveling, crossword puzzles, and frequenting the casino with family and friends.
