Ted E. Demory, 79, of Apache Junction, AZ, formerly of Cedar Rapids, died peacefully at his home Saturday, February 14, 2009, from Melanoma. Services with military honors at 11 AM Friday in Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Rev. William Harnish will officiate. Burial in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 4 to 7 PM on Thursday and at the chapel after 10:30 AM on Friday.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Marilyn; son Michael (Teresa) of Dubuque, Iowa, three daughters, Patti (Jeff) Ogden of Oregon, Illinois, Susan (Brian) Skoog of Burnsville, Minnesota, and Sandra (Wes) Nosek of Gilbert, Arizona; one sister, Belle Gardner of Hiawatha, Iowa; nine grandchildren, Chad, Michael Paul, Heather, Matt, Chari, Danielle, Kehly, Braydon, and Jake, and 9 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, and three sisters, Lois Marie, Dorothy, and Gertrude.
Ted was born February 2, 1930 to Earl and Gertrude Demory in Cedar Rapids. After graduating from McKinley High School he was employed with Quaker Oats where he met Marilyn Muir. They were married
on June 4, 1950.
During the Korean War he served in the National Guard and then as a Sergeant in the Army 3657th Ord M M Co. After his discharge, he was employed by Collins Radio as a draftsman for 20 years. Ted then went on to owning and operating two businesses in the area. He worked for Allen’s Motor Company for six years before moving to Mesa, Arizona in 1978 where he was employed by Tony M. Coury Buick as a salesman, lease manager, and finally as finance manager until his retirement in 1992.
Ted was active in his community as President of his Homeowners Association, Presidents of the Nuggets Social Club, and as Vice President of the Arizona Association of Homeowners. Ted was always ready to assist the neighbors in his community. He enjoyed playing golf for many years and had a knack for landscaping and all forms of handiwork. He had a wonderful smile, great sense of humor, and his laugh was contagious.
Ted will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
The family would like to give a special thank you to the entire staff at Hospice of the Valley for the wonderful care given to Ted.

Claris F. Conkling, 63, of 3020 Tiperary Dr. NE, died suddenly Tuesday, April 6, 2010 in Salt Lake City, Utah. Memorial services will be held at 11 AM Monday, June 14, 2010, in Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Rev. Lloyd Brockmeyer of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church will officiate. Visitation will be from 10 AM to service time. Arrangements by Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.
Survivors include her husband Dr. R. W. Conkling, a sister Dixie (Al) Woodraska of Harlan, Iowa, a brother Jon (Donna) Backer of Dilworth, Minnesota, three stepsons Bill, Jim, and Jeff Conkling, two nieces Terry Duffer and Sharon Lucke, and one nephew Kenneth Woodraska.
Claris was the daughter of Sylvester and Marjorie Backer and was born April 18, 1946 in Wahpeton, North Dakota. She and her family lived in Hankinson, North Dakota until 1959 when they moved to Harlan, Iowa. She graduated from Harlan High School in 1965 and later that year entered St. Luke’s School of Nursing in Cedar Rapids. After she received her RN degree she joined the nursing staff at St. Luke’s Hospital and remained a member of the Nursing Staff until her retirement in 1996.

Nancy Beth Collins

Nancy B. Collins, 66 of Atkins, Iowa died as a result of a motor vehicle accident near Palo. A private memorial service will be held for the family.
A Celebration of Life Reception, hosted by the Ladies Auxiliary of VFW 788, 3240 Southgate Place SW, Cedar Rapids, will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 17, 2010.
Nancy Beth Lee was born on January 6, 1944 in Cuba City, Illinois to J. Orlen and Florence Lee. She graduated from Scales Mound High School in 1961 and married
H. Courtney Collins in Scales Mound, Illinois on July 6, 1964. Nancy enjoyed many occupations throughout her lifetime which allowed her the opportunity to meet and make many friends. While her children were growing she was a homemaker, active PTA member, Girl Scout Leader, Camp Fire Girls Leader, Boy Scout Den Mother and taught CCD classes at her church. She and her husband owned and operated C’s Grocery Store in Emmetsburg, and later she was a store manager for a women’s clothing store at both Westdale Mall and Sycamore Mall. She worked in real estate, was co-owner of Collins Distributing, Inc., and for the past six years, the proprietor of Collins Corner Pub and Eatery in Atkins, Iowa. She served as the President of the Ladies Auxiliary of VFW 788 from 1996 to 2001.
She is survived by daughters, Wendy Warren (Carl) Winkler of Pueblo, Colorado; Deborah Collins (Gary) Gallo of Fairfax; son, Steven C. (Pam) Collins of Newhall; step-daughter, Linda (Bill) Kahle of Rockford, Illinois; six grandchildren; eight step-grandchildren; two adopted grandchildren and four great-grandchildren and two step great grandchildren.
Also surviving are four sisters: Gladys (Roger) Perkins of Ballston Spa, New York; Ruth (Byron) Broge of Rockford, Illinois; Doris Farrey of Elwood, Illinois; Jane (Ron) Toepfer of Apple River, Illinois and three brothers: Clarence (Pat) Lee of Reedsburg, Wisconsin; Joe (Mary Ann) Lee of Scales Mound, Illinois; and John (Prudy) Lee of Freeport, Illinois. She has many nieces and nephews.
Nancy was preceded in death by her husband of thirty-one years, H. Courtney Collins, her mother and father, J. Orlen and Florence Lee, two brothers who died at birth, Earl Lee and Thomas Lee, and two sisters, Violet Whitsitt and Mary Lou Richter.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established under her name at Guaranty Bank and Trust, 300 - 80th Street Court, Fairfax, Iowa 52228.
Marian E. Clearwaters

Marian E. Clearwaters, 94, of Marion, Iowa, passed away on April 15, 2010 peacefully in her home.
A memorial gathering will be held at a later date. Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home is assisting the family.
She is survived by her children Steven Dye of San Francisco, Robert Dye (Barb) of Marion, and Kathy Robinson (Jim) of Denver; grandchildren Deb (Andrew) , Brian, Tami (Jim) and Annie; two great grandchildren, Kira and Carter and her sister-in-law Jennie Capps of Phillipsburg, KS. She was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Ivan Clearwaters, her brother Leonard Burrows, and her stepson Keith Clearwaters.
Marian was born July 1, 1915, the daughter of Bert and Nelle (Lyttle) Burrows. She was a proud lifetime resident of Marion. Her passions included her love of family, music and dancing, animals, politics and reading. She traveled to many states to research her family genealogy and compiled an extensive written history. She loved her home, garden, flowers, birds, and the peace, quiet, and beauty of the family acreage in Ely, Iowa.
Marian was a compassionate listener, liked to laugh and was a great mom to many. “Dude” will be missed by her immediate family, including her beloved niece, Lynda Burrows of California. A special thanks to her caring neighbors, Pete and Nelda.
Memorial contributions may be made to Mercy Hospice or the Humane Society.

Herbert Cherry, 80, of Cedar Rapids, died May 30, 2010, at St. Luke’s Living Center West, Cedar Rapids. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, June 5, 2010 at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Brother Richard W. Reed with Church of Christ will officiate. Burial will take place in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Friday at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. A Masonic Service will be held at 6:30 PM on Friday at the Funeral Home.
Surviving are his wife of 45 years Orvetta; his daughters Carleta Cherry of Cedar Rapids, Sherry Cherry of Austin, TX, and Terathear Hamilton of California; three sisters Edna Lewis of Shawnee, KS, Velva Mallory of Kansas City, MO, and Marlyn Wyler of Decatur, GA; four brothers Samuel Cherry of Seattle, WA, Sylvester Cherry of Milwaukee, WI, Charles Cherry and Alfred Cherry both of Kansas City, MO; four grandchildren; and six great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Slyra Woodward, and three brothers Preston Jr., Robert, and Walker Cherry.
Herbert was born November 27, 1929 in Anniston, AL, the son of Henry and Willie Mae (Freeman) Cherry. He married
Minnie Cherry this union would later end in separation. Herbert later married
Orvetta Heath on June 13, 1964 in Preston, MN. Herbert was a veteran of the United States Army. He was a 35-year employee at Wilson Foods retiring as a foreman. He was a member the Cedar Rapids Mount Olive Lodge No. 17 F. & A.M., part owner of the Cedar Rapids Raiders semi-pro Football team, and was a candidate for the Linn County Board of Supervisors on the Republican ticket in 1978. He enjoyed landscaping, bowling, collecting coins, paintings, figurines, and Norman Rockwell memorabilia.
