Helen M. Deihl, 81, of the Meth-Wick Community, died there on Thursday, April 15, 2004 after an extended illness. Services at 11 AM on Monday at the Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. Rev. Jack Kendall will officiate. Burial at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call at the Cedar Memorial Funeral Home from 2 to 5 PM on Sunday.
Survivors include two sisters, Mildred Milo Zahradnik and Edna Leonard 'Nick' Kint all of Cedar Rapids. She is also survived by a nephew, Gregory Coleen Kint of Mt. Vernon, nieces, Carol John Romano of Port Arthur, TX., Jane Steve Dyches of Huntington Beach, CA. and Janis Scott Netser of Cedar Rapids. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Helen was born on Oct. 18, 1922 in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of Edward and Lillian Prochaska Kulhavy. She married
Everett B. Deihl on May 27, 1961 in Cedar Rapids. He died in 1975. Helen worked at Northwestern Bell Telephone Company from 1940 until her retirement in 1983. She was a member of the Marion Business Girls, the Telephone Pioneers of America and the Belles and Beaus Square Dance Club. Helen was an excellent seamstress and loved ballroom dancing. She took lessons from the Arthur Murray and Fred Astaire Studios for many years. A memorial fund has been established in Helen's name.

Neal L. DeWees, 82, of 3800 Lennox Ave NE, formerly of Marion, died Monday, April 19, 2004, in his home following a short illness. Services with Masonic rites at 11 AM Friday in Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. Burial with Military rites in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Funeral Home from 5 to 7 PM on Thursday and at the chapel after 10:30 AM on Friday.
Neal was born October 15, 1921 on a farm east of Springville to L.B. and Helen Neal DeWees. He graduated from Marion High School in 1939. While attending Iowa State College, he enlisted in the U.S. Army. He served from 1942 to 1946 with the 271st MM Ordinance Company. He saw action with General Patton in Europe and served in the Philippines. After the war, he returned home and worked at Cedar Rapids Engineering, Parker-Midland, and Reliable Machinery.
Neal married
the former Maxine Brooks on May 23, 1942 at the First United Methodist Church in Marion. Survivors including his wife, a son Jerry and wife Susan of Edina, Minnesota, grandchildren, Alexander and Katelyn, a brother Phillip of Marion, a sister June McNaughton of El Segundo, California, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Neal belonged to the First United Methodist Church in Marion. He was a member of Trojan Masonic Lodge No 548 in Marion for over 50 years, and was Worshipful Master there in 1969. He was also a member of the El Kahir Shrine, and was a member of the Shrine Chanters. He bowled in a league for many years, and enjoyed fishing, golf, and gardening.
Neal would prefer people contribute to the Shriners' Hospital for Crippled Children rather than sending flowers.
Masonic rites will be conducted by Trojan Masonic Lodge Number 548, and Military rites by VFW Post No 788.

Matilda Josephine Darrow, 96, died Sunday, April 25, 2004, at her home in Iowa City after a brief illness. Services at 11 AM Wednesday in Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. Rev. She is survived by her son Dan Charlotte of Iowa City, daughters Sue Bill Curry of Cedar Rapids and Kathy Lee McCarty of Ankeny, grandchildren; Doug Pam Darrow of Oxford, Diane Al Coffin of Cedar Rapids, Charles Darrow of North Liberty, Pat Penny Darrow of Westmoreland, Tn, Mark Lisa Thompson of Phoenix, AZ, Tommy Thompson of Cedar Rapids, Scott Julie Thompson of Manchester, Susan Thompson of Cedar Rapids, Ryan McCarty of Ankeny, Matthew McCarty of Fort Gordon, GA, and Julie McCarty of Cedar Falls, 15 great grandchildren, a brother Elmer Chadima, and a niece Mary Elizabeth McGowan, both of Cedar Rapids, and many other nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Cleo in 1973, son Thomas in 1998, a sister Mamie McGowan, and two brothers Joe and Bill Chadima of Cedar Rapids.
Matilda was born August 18, 1907, in Cedar Rapids the daughter of Frank Chadima and Mary Elizabeth Tomanek Chadima. She was joined in marriage to Cleo Darrow March 7, 1932, in Rock Island, Illinois. She was a member of Calvin-Sinclair Presbyterian Church in Cedar Rapids and was a lifelong resident of Cedar Rapids until she moved to Iowa City in 2001.
Matilda graduated from Washington High School and a Cedar Rapids business college. She worked at a defense factory during WW II, an insurance company, Meth-Wick Manor, and Collins Radio Company.
She was a caregiver to her mother, husband, and son during their lingering last illnesses.
She greatly enjoyed her family and grandchildren. She loved gardening and crocheting.
She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Wayne B. Dunlavey, 75, of Traer, formerly of Cedar Rapids, died Tuesday, June 29, 2004, at Sunrise Hill Care Facility in Traer following a short illness. Memorial services at 10:30 AM Friday in the Traer United Methodist Church. Rev. Anita Johnson will officiate. Inurnment in Chapel of Memories Mausoleum in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery in Cedar Rapids. Survivors include his wife Jo Ann, a son Rodney and wife Verlene all of Traer. Also survived by two step-grandchildren Alan M. Cannon and Andrew W. Cannon. He was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter Nancy Jo.
Wayne was born November 20, 1928 in Traer to Donald and Dorothy Wood Dunlavey. He married
Jo Ann R. Rust on July 17, 1955 in Sheffield, Iowa. Wayne worked in sales and marketing for Century Engineering and Cedar Memorial Funeral Home and Cemetery in Cedar Rapids, and for Plumbers Supply in Iowa City. He was a member of the Traer United Methodist Church, a 50 year member of the Mizpah Masonic Lodge, Iowa Consistory, and the El Kahir Shrine. He served in the US Army during the Korean War.
Wayne was well known for his singing at many different occasions including the National Anthem at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles, California, for the Imperial Shrine Convention where Russ Anthony was installed as Imperial Potentate. He sang the "Holy City" at the El Kahir Shrine concert on Palm Sunday in Cedar Rapids for over 40 years. He loved to play pool and collect antiques.
In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established.

Marilyn 'Shawn' Dekko, 64, 4833 Olde Mill Court NE died Sunday, July 18, 2004 at Mercy Medical Center following a long illness. Services: 2:00 P.M. She was preceded in death by her father. Marilyn was born July 17, 1940 in Gary, MN the daughter of Melvin and Gladyce Mjelde Veker. She married
Gary Dekko on October 24, 1959. She was a member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church. Marilyn was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. Her family meant the world to her. A special thank you to the people at Mercy Medical Center, Oncology Department, Critical Care Unit, to Iowa Blood and Cancer Care and to Dr. Chirantan Ghosh. Alice Christina Davis

Alice C. Davis, 94, 101 S. 11th Street, Marion was peacefully taken home by our Lord God, Monday evening, August 30, 2004 during her stay in Crestview Acres Care Center. Service: 10:30 A.M. Thursday at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Entombment: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. The Rev. John Gossman will officiate. In accordance with Alice's wishes, there will be no visitation and the casket will remain closed at all times. Local arrangements by Cedar Memorial Funeral Home.
Survivors include a daughter, Beverly Newberry and husband Wendell of Marion; a granddaughter, Deborah Newberry; one sister; three brothers; five sisters-in-law; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Ingle K., four sisters, a grandson Sam L. Newberry, many nieces, many nephews, and several very special friends.
Alice was born May 11, 1910 in Manchester the daughter of Roy and Agnes Burns Atkinson. She was united in marriage with Ingle K. Davis on July 24, 1932 in Galena, IL. He died March 26, 1978. Alice loved her daughter, son-in-law, and grandchildren. She was a very talented seamstress who took great pride in making clothing for all of them. Alice did a lot of crocheting for her family and some crafting. These handmade articles will become cherished keepsakes for all of us. Alice was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.
In lieu of flowers, Alice had noted her preference for memorial masses on her behalf and as she stated 'the masses will do me more good than the flowers'.

Lynnette was born January 25, 1959 in Richmound, IN. to Eldon and Elizabeth Hoge Hoose. She married
Robert Dietz on September 2, 1978 in Whittier. Lynnette liked to play guitar and was a worship leader at the Harvest Life Fellowship Church. She and Bob were missionaries in Eastern Europe and Mexico for the last twenty years.
