Edward Joseph Duda, 89, of 2520 27th Avenue, Marion, died January 26, 2009 at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy following an extended illness. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM, Friday, January 30, 2009 at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Friends may call from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Thursday, January 30, 2009 at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. Interment will take place at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Edward is survived in memory by the children of his 1st wife Betty, who died in 1983; Edward of Las Vegas, NV and his wife and children, Nancy of Cedar Rapids her husband and children; and by his second wife Mary of Marion and her children, Morris of Jacksonville, FL, his wife and children, Sheryl of Green Bay, WI, and many other step-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Also surviving are his sisters Fannie Hutchinson of Boone, and Alice Duda of Belle Plaine; brother in law Clarence Dvorak of Mt. Vernon and numerous other relatives and friends.
Edward Joseph Duda was born on July 27, 1919 in New Hampton, Iowa to Joseph and Frantiska (Janosik) Duda and later moved to Elberon and Chelsea, Iowa where he was educated in local, country schools.
Edward was a decorated serviceman in the U.S. Navy during WWII on the U.S.S. Idaho and enjoyed a successful career with Wilson Meat Packing in Cedar Rapids until his retirement.

Arlene M. Dicus, 85, of Marion, went to be with her Lord on Friday January 23, 2009 at the MeadowView Memory Care, following a long illness. Services: 11:00 a.m. Monday at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories, where friends may call on Sunday from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.
The Rev. Jon Moss and Pastor Mary Taylor will officiate. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Survivors include her children, Marilyn (Larry N.) Schafbuch, of Ladora, Carol (Donald) Gugler of Ely, Judi (Ed) Urbanek of Johnston, and Beverly (John) Taylor of Independence, her siblings, Arlyn (Mary Ann) Gray of Elkader, Alice (Harold) Sorenson of Ames, and Alan (Lavon) Gray of Bluegrass, 10 grandchildren, Linda (Al) Gerard, Darrell (Tracy) Schafbuch, Connie (Dave) Miner, Kevin (Tina) Schafbuch, Michael (Shannon) Covington, Cathleen Covington, Lisa (Tom) Dahl, Tom (Sara) Urbanek, Matthew Wisgerhof and Sara (Eric) Throener, and 19 great grandchildren and one soon to be.
Her husband and parents preceded her in death.
Arlene was born May 8, 1923 in Kamrar, Iowa, the daughter of Thomas and Gladys Clabaugh Gray. She married
Harold Edwin Dicus on June 7, 1941 in South Sioux City, Nebraska. He died February 4, 2004.
Arlene was a member of First United Methodist Church where she was active in the Ruth Circle and Bracelet Girls.
She also was a Bluebird, Campfire and 4-H Leader.
Arlene was a true homemaker. She enjoyed caring for family and friends.
In her spare time she enjoyed gardening, sewing, and cooking and making the best apple pie.
She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff of MeadowView Memory Care and St. Luke’s Hospice for the loving care they gave to her.
Memorials may be made to Alzheimer’s Association of East Central Iowa, St. Luke’s Hospice or First United Methodist Church of Marion.
Howard Louis Dubishar

Howard Louis Dubishar, 77, of 1216 – 30th Street NE, died Thursday, January 15, 2009, at Mercy Medical Center, due to complications of dementia. Services: 11 a.m. Monday at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories by the Rev. William Harnish. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
A visitation will be held on Sunday from 2 to 5 p.m. at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home and after 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Chapel. Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Howard is survived by his wife, June; daughters, Diane Dubishar Musser and husband Mike, and Lisa Dubishar Lane and husband Mike, all of Glen Ellyn, Ill; a brother Ronald Rimrodt and wife, Juli of Davenport; and six grandchildren, Brittnee, Melissa, and Charlie Musser, and Paige, Julia, and Samantha Lane.
Howard was preceded in death by his parents.
Howard was born on April 4, 1931 in Swisher, Iowa to Louis and Anna Votroubek Dubishar. He met June Hines while at Ft. Benning serving in the army. Howard married
June in Nashua, Iowa at the Little Brown Church on January 8, 1956. He started with Hawkeye Seed Company in 1956, became partner, and went on to found Hawkeye Seed Company, Inc., wholesale division. He was president until his retirement in 2003.
The family would like to extend their thanks to Mercy Medical Center and Mercy Hospice for the wonderful care they gave Howard.

John E. Dillon, 85, of 4217 Council St. NE, died Saturday, December 27, 2008, at Mercy Medical Center following a short illness. Services with military honors will be held at 3 PM Tuesday in Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Deacon Lanny Peterson of St. Pius X Catholic Church will officiate. Inurnment in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 4 to 6 PM on Monday and at the chapel after 2:30 PM on Tuesday.
Survivors include a daughter Kathy Moenk of Marion, a son John W. (Patricia) Dillon of Anoka, Minnesota, six grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren, and one great great granddaughter. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, two daughters, Maureen in infancy and Patricia, and two sisters.
John was born July 3, 1923 in Elgin, Illinois to John and Cecelia Welch Dillon. He married
Dolores M. Grewe on February 1, 1944 in Elgin, Illinois. She died November 20, 1997. He served in the US Navy during WW II.
He was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church and the VFW Post No 788. He enjoyed trap shooting, bowling, square dancing, playing cards, fishing, and spending time with his family and friends.
In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established.

Charles William Downey

Charles “Charlie” “Chuck” William Downey, 86, of Manor Care, died there Friday, December 5, 2008, due to complications of a stroke.
Services: 10:30 a.m. Monday at Cedar Memorial Westside Chapel by Rev. R.C. Pleiness and Rev. Thomas Osterkamp of Good News Baptist Church.
Burial: Andre Cemetery, Lisbon.
Friends may visit at the funeral home after 9:30 a.m. Monday.
Charlie is survived by his sister. Florence Schoff of Kremling, CO; son, Elwood Downey; niece, Kathleen (James) Yost of Kremling, CO; nephew, Perry (Jane) Schoff of Cedar Rapids; three great nephews, Brandon Yost, Tony Hocamp, and Isaac Schoff; three great nieces, Rachelle Dell, Natasha Smith, and Talisha Davis.
Charlie was born May 29, 1922 in Iowa City, Iowa.
His parents and brother-in-law, Wayne Schoff, preceded him in death. Charlie went to live with the Darrel Kohl family at age 14, where he helped them on their farm until he was drafted in the Army at age 18.
He served his country for five years; spending furloughs with the Kohls and his sister.
After the service, he returned to the farm and later purchased his own farm, north of Springville.
Charlie worked for a number of years at Wilson and Company; but missed working on the land. He did landscape work in 1963 with the Cedar Rapids Nursery Company.
For 32 years, he was a part of the Hughes Nursery family.
He was never late for work and always stayed until the job was completed.
He was a meritorious person and retired in 1995. In August of 2008, he was proud to be a part of the centennial celebration at the Hughs’ nursery museum; enjoying all the pictures of equipment which he had operated.
Charlie enjoyed his family and especially, his church family. His Lord was number one in his life.
He was a longtime member of Good News Baptist Church in Cedar Rapids.
His family wishes to thank Manor Care, doctors and staff at Mercy Medical Center, his church family and his special friends, Wanda and Alberta, for their loving care of him.
