William R. "Bill" Eckhardt, 56, of Swisher, died Tuesday, October 2, 2007, in the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City, following a short illness. Services at 10 AM Saturday in Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Rev. Bill Randles of Believers In Grace Fellowship will officiate. Private family burial in St. John's Cemetery in Bellevue, Iowa. Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel in Cedar Rapids from 4 to 8 PM on Friday and after 9:30 AM on Saturday.
Survivors include his wife Jan, his mother Lois Eckhardt of Wellman, his son Andrew of Iowa City, his step son Dennis O'Toole of Swisher, his cousins Penny Crook and husband Chris of Wales, UK, and Paul and Lou Ann Dove of Minneapolis, Minnesota, his beloved cats Smelly, Doc, Skeeter, G.W., Phoebe, and his loving Shelty Hannah. He was preceded in death by his father.
Bill was born August 21, 1951 in Iowa City, Iowa to Charles and Lois Domine, Eckhardt. He served with the Marines during the Viet Nam War. Bill married
Jan O'Toole on December 5, 1999 in Cedar Rapids. He had many occupations, he was a regional truck driver, a farmer, a Iowa Licensed Funeral Director, taught Trucker Training at Kirkwood Community College, a mechanic for Mr. Good Wrench in Iowa City, and a deputy sheriff of Cedar County. He was a member of the Isaac Walton League of Johnson County. He competed in several state trap shoots, and was involved with DNR Hunters Ed and the Old Threshers Reunion in Mt. Pleasant. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, trapping, building steam engines, and loved watching trains and spending time outdoors. He was a master fixer upper and the Ultimate Packer Backer.
Bill's family deeply appreciated Dr. Abu and his nursing staff, Luke, Lance, Nancy, Kathleen, Melissa, Mindy, and Tracy, and the palliative care team at the John Pappajohn Clinical Cancer unit, for their wonderful compassionate care of Bill.

Milton Lavern Ewing, 83, of 3000 J Street SW # 2204, went to be with his lord and savior Jesus Christ on October 18, 2007 at St. Luke's Hospital following complications of cancer. Funeral services will be held 1:00 PM, Monday October 22, 2007 at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Pastor Tony Gael will officiate. Friends may call from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM, Sunday, October 21, 2007 at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home, and after 12:00 Noon on Monday at the Chapel of Memories. Interment: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Survivors include daughters Terese Svoboda and husband Dave of Killeen, TX, Stephanie French and husband Matthew of Cedar Rapids, and Wendy Schmitz and husband Roger of Cedar Rapids; a son Matthew Ewing and special friend Connie of Cedar Rapids; 5 step children; 8 grand children; 21 step grand children; 16 step great grandchildren; sister Marjorie Dagel and husband Roland of Tyler, TX; brothers Curtis Ewing and wife Louise of Knoxville, Iowa, and Jerry Ewing and wife Lois of Colorado. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews and extended family, and was lovingly care for by his step daughter Darlene Franck for the past 10 years.
He was preceded in death by his wife Geraldine in 1987, his parents, and a sister Nina Sloatman.
Milton Lavern Ewing was born October 16, 1924 in Waukon, Iowa the beloved son of Jacob and Gladys Hastings Ewing. He married
Eva Allman in 1954 and they later divorced. He married
Geraldine Dennis on March 25, 1971 in Iowa City. He was employed from 1954 to 1986 at Wilson's Packing Company where he was commonly known to his co workers as "Daddy-O". His greatest joy in life was spending time with his loving family and his cat Buddy. He was dearly loved by his family and will be greatly missed.

John Clarence Eichhorn, 87, passed away October 28, 2007 after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease. He was born October 7, 1920 in Oskaloosa, Iowa. His parents were John Clarence and Gladys Wagner Eichhorn. He grew up in Oskaloosa and then attended the University of Iowa, receiving his Bachelor of Arts in political science and a JD with Distinction from the College of Law in 1948.
Between his college degrees, he was in World War II serving as an Army officer in the United States and Europe and Africa. He was in England for eight months and saw the D Day invasion from England.
On August 19, 1948 he married
Katharine Brittain Safely in Cedar Rapids. He started his law practice with the firm of Chrisman and Bleakley.
The Korean War interrupted the law practice and he was called as a JAG officer and assigned to Fort Benjamin Harrison in Indiana. His last rank was First Lieutenant.
He returned to Cedar Rapids and practiced transportation and corporate law, later moved to Newton and then to Des Moines, and finally retired to Cedar Rapids. For 17 years he served as the District Counsel for the Small Business Association, with a specialty in bankruptcy law.
John is survived by three children, Julianne Marty Smith, John Rita Eichhorn and Ellen Eichhorn. He has five grandchildren Thomas Sarah Anderson, Brittain Steven Ezzes, Abigail Eichhorn, Emily James Henkel, and Katharine Eichhorn. He has one great grandson, John Rowan Anderson.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister Patricia Lundy.
He belonged to Delta Chi and Phi Delta Phi fraternities. He actively supported the Republican Party and Planned Parenthood. He loved golf and bridge and read two newspapers a day, cover to cover.
John could be counted on as a very loyal friend to all the people and causes in which he believed.
From the time his grandmother took him to the opening game at the brand new Kinnick Stadium, John loved the Iowa Hawkeyes. He supported the Iowa Alumni Club and he enthusiastically and energetically cheered the Iowa Hawkeyes.
Dearest to his heart was his family. He was a wonderful son, husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. His delight and joy in other people will be dearly missed.
The family would like to thank the very dedicated staff at Cottage Grove Place for all their excellent care and support.
There will be a private inurnment at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories Mausoleum, officiated by Rev. William Pugliese, Christ Episcopal Church.
A celebration of John's life will be held in Oak Hall at Cottage Grove Place, 2115 First Avenue SE, on Friday, November 2 from 12:30pm - 2:30pm.
Memorials may be directed to the University of Iowa Foundation or to a charity of the donor's choice.

Norman J. Ferreter, 88, of Cedar Rapids, died at home, Wednesday, May 26, 2010. Funeral Mass: 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Pius X Catholic Church by the Rev. Dennis Cahill. Burial: Mt. Calvary Cemetery with military honors. A vigil service will be held at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home where friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m.
Survivors include his wife Lois of almost 60 years; children, Richard Ferreter of Cedar Rapids, Colleen Ferreter of Peoria, IL, and Randall Ferreter of Orlando, FL; brother, Loren Ferreter of Independence; sister, Marjorie Scott of Winthrop; and four grandchildren, Kyle and Ross Ferreter Smith and Justin and Rachel Ferreter. He was preceded in death by a brother Richard P. Ferreter.
Norman was born December 26, 1921 at Quasqueton to John and Matilda Ferreter. He married
Lois Pflughaupt in Oelwein on June 3, 1950. Norman was an Army veteran of WWII. He was employed at Rockwell Collins from 1960 to 1984. He was an avid fisherman and Cubs fan. When he told tall tales he had a twinkle in his eye and had an Irish sense of humor. All thru their marriage he kept the whole family laughing. He loved babies and couldn't pass a baby without smiling. He was always fascinated with children. He will be remembered as a loving husband and father.

Mary Louise Crozier Erdahl, 94, 2115 First Ave SE died Wednesday, November 21, 2007 peacefully in her room at Cottage Grove Place with her son and daughter by her side. Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Funeral Home on Sunday from 2:30 PM to 4:30 PM. Funeral Service: 11:00 A.M. Monday at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Survivors include a daughter, Catherine Joy Erdahl of Cedar Rapids; a son, Clemens Allen Erdahl II Roxanne of Shueyville; four grandchildren, Cory, Lily, Chase and Colbin Jen; a sister, Marion Meyer George of Solon; a sister-in-law, Bernice Crozier of Fairfax; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Clemens in 2004; an infant son, Christopher Colbin; four brothers and one sister.
Mary Lou was born December 27, 1912 in Marion County, the daughter of Archibald Blackburn and Maude Mae Kamp Crozier. She married
Clemens Allen Erdahl on August 26, 1941 in Walford. Mary Lou was a school teacher for several years during which time she earned her bachelor's degree from the University of Iowa. She returned to the University to obtain her Masters Degree in Nutrition.
She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, was formerly a member of Hitchcock Memorial Presbyterian Church in Scarsdale, New York where she served as Deacon and President of the Women's Missionary Society. She was also formerly a member of the LaJolla Presbyterian Church in LaJolla, California. Mary Lou was very active in the Scarsdale Women's Club where she began her hobby of creating ceramics. She was a volunteer and EMT certified for the Scarsdale Ambulance Corporation for 10 years. When her husband became the president of the National Association of Accountants, she became a very active First Lady traveling the country promoting that professional organization. Now know as the Institute of Management Accountants.
Mary Lou's family would like to thank the staff at Cottage Grove Place and the staff of Amenity Hospice for there wonderful care.

Grant was born October 26, 1922 in Cedar Rapids, the son of Donald and Alice Burns Ellis. He married
Betty M. Bissell on August 5, 1945 in Cedar Rapids. Grant was a graduate of McKinley High School. He was employed at Link-Belt/FMC as a welder for over 40 years before retiring. He was an active member of St. James United Methodist Church and Marion American Legion Post #298. In his free time he enjoyed woodworking and making grandfather clocks. He served in the Army during World War II, where he received the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart. Grant was a very loving husband, father and grandfather and very devoted to his family.

Anna Marie Ellis, 83, of 127 Railroad St. in Fairfax formerly of Cedar Rapids died Sunday, Dec. 2, 2007 at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy after a lingering illness. Services at 11 AM on Thursday at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Burial at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Survivors include her husband, Charlie, two daughters, Pamela Ellis of Lake Oswego, Oregon and Melanie Bryan Abel of Cedar Rapids, a son, Joseph Margie Ellis of Higbee, Missouri, two step-sons, Chuck Stanley of Ardmore, Oklahoma and Jack Stanley of Las Vegas, Nevada and a sister, Florence Auen of Independence. She is also survived by 9 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, a daughter, Rene, a great grandson, Noah Grabe and several brothers and sisters.
Anna was born on Dec. 8, 1923 in Coggon, the daughter of Charles and Bertha Taylor Price. She married
Charles A. Ellis on Sept. 21. 1965 in Chicago, Ill. Anna was a secretary at St. Lukes Hospital for over 35 years, retiring in 1987. Anna enjoyed crocheting, fishing, cooking, baking and time spent with her friends and grandchildren.
Memorial donations may be given to the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Anna's name.
