Tom Eggleston, 80, of Cedar Rapids, died on April 9, 2010, at St. Luke’s Hospital, following an extended illness. Funeral services will be held 10:00 AM, Wednesday, April 14, 2010 at Noelridge Park Christian Church. Rev. Traverse Harrison will officiate. Friends may call from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Tuesday, April 13, 2010 at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. A Masonic service will be held at 7:15 PM on Tuesday at the chapel. Burial will take place at Linwood Park Cemetery, Boone, Iowa at 3:00 PM on Wednesday. Arrangements entrusted to Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.

Surviving are his wife Barbara, son Michael and wife Rebecca of Brainerd, MN; and grandchildren Jennifer of Waterloo, IL, Melissa of Rochester, MN, and Thomas of Brainerd.

He was preceded in death by his beloved daughter Trudy, his brother Arthur, and his parents.

Tom was born April 27, 1929 in Marietta, Ohio the son of Harla Ray and Mildred (Cunningham) Eggleston. He received his education at the Marietta Public Schools, and Mountain State Business College in Parkersburg, WV. He served his country honorably in the United States Navy from 1946 to 1950. He was united in marriage to Barbara Stark on June 28, 1953. He worked in the construction business as a structural iron worker from 1952 to 1970. From 1970 until the date of his Installation as Grand Master, his full time has been dedicated to Freemasonry as Deputy Grand Secretary from 1970 to 1980, and Grand Secretary from 1980 to 1991. In addition, he has served the Grand Lodge on the Public Relations Committee and as Junior Grand Deacon, and Deputy Grand Master.

Tom’s Masonic career began at Mount Olive Lodge No. 79 in Boone Iowa where he served as Master in 1962. He also served as a Master in 1982 for Bruce Lodge No. 665 in Cedar Rapids. His ritual proficiency earned him a District Lecturer’s Certificate. Tom was also affiliated and active with the following Masonic organizations: York Rite Bodies in Cedar Rapids, Cedar Rapids Consistory where he received the 33rd degree honor, Malta Chapter No. 415 O.E.S., Ambar Grotto; El Kahir Shrine, St. Ignatius Conclave, and Red Cross of Constantine. He was the proud recipient of the Honorary Legion Of Honor from DeMolay, and has brought credit to Iowa during his service as Secretary/Treasurer of the Conference of Grand Secretaries of North America.

Tom was also an active member of Noelridge Park Christian Church in Cedar Rapids. He was a tireless volunteer for Camp Courageous, traveling throughout the state to collect items for the Pineapple Gala, as well as numerous other activities for the camp. For the last several years Tom has worked at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home as a funeral assistant.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Tom’s honor may be made to Noelridge Christian Church or to Camp Courageous.

Ione Marion Freeman
Born in New Salem, ND on May 8, 1918
Departed on April 5, 2011. Resided in Cedar Rapids, IA.

Ione K. Freeman, 92, of Cedar Rapids, peacefully passed away after a brief illness. Services: 11 a.m. Saturday at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories by the Rev. Heather Hayes. Interment: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. A visitation will be held Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.

Survivors include children, Douglas Freeman of Culver City, CA, Gordon Freeman of Marion, and Richard (Penny) Freeman and Ronald (Marie) Freeman, all of Cedar Rapids; a sister-in-law, Ann Freeman of Marion; and grandchildren, Jeffrey Freeman, Gordon Horne, Adam, Kyle, and Ashley Freeman, Megan Trumm and Lauren Freeman, and Audrianne and Garrett Freeman. She was preceded in death by her husband, James, and brother, Lloyd Knain.

Ione was born May 8, 1918 to Joseph and Ida Knain in New Salem, ND. She moved to Cedar Rapids after WWII to pursue a teaching career with her husband, James W. Freeman in the Cedar Rapids School System. She was a past secretary for the Cedar Rapids Education Association, a previous member of the Cedar Rapids Country Club, and a member of First Presbyterian Church. Ione enjoyed a good game of bridge or golf along with gardening. She was an avid sports fan of football, basketball and baseball games. Ione was expert at needlepoint with numerous beautiful creations.

Memorials may be directed to the First Presbyterian Church.

Beverly A. Earll
Born in Keota, Iowa on February 19, 1937
Departed on March 24, 2010. Resided in Hiawatha, Iowa.

Beverly A. Earll, 73, of 201 10th Ave. in Hiawatha died Wednesday March 24, 2010 at St. Lukes Hospital after a sudden illness. Services at 10:30 AM on Saturday at the Marion Christian Church. Rev. Bob Bromley will officiate. Burial at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 5 to 8 PM on Friday.

Survivors include her husband, Don, one daughter, Tracy Nees of Walcott, a son, Frank of Plantation, Florida, six brothers, Donald Norenberg of Keota, Stanley Norenberg of Adel, Lowell (Anna) Norenberg of Branson, Missouri, Gary (Judy) Norenberg of Mississippi, Jay (Pat) of Pensacola, Florida and George (Chris) Norenberg of Iowa City; three sisters, Pauline (Darwin) Cave of South English, Lois Bennett of Keota and Veronica (Roger) Shifflett of Sigourney. She is also survived by four grandchildren, Brooke Meza, Mackenzie and Taylor Nees, Anthony Earll; and one great grandchild Daniel Meza. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Bev was born on February 19, 1937 in Keota, the daughter of Isaac and Grace Biewen Norenberg. She married Donald L. Earll on January 21, 1956 in Keota. Bev was a homemaker and a faithful member of the Marion Christian Church. She enjoyed gardening, flowers, going to garage sales, flea markets, and especially the time spent with her beloved family.

Memorial donations may be given to the Marion Christian Church in Bev’s name.

Aldene Leone Emerson
Born in Milford, Iowa on April 26, 1924

Aldene L. Emerson, 85, of the Methwick Community, formerly of Madison, WI, died at St. Luke’s Hospital on Tuesday, February 23, 2010 from complications caused from a fall while visiting her daughter in Florida. A memorial service will be held at 3:00 PM, Friday, February 26, 2010 at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Rev. Paul Wilcox of Lovely Lane United Methodist Church will officiate. Friends may call after 2:30 PM on Friday at the Chapel of Memories. Inurnment will follow the services at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.

Surviving are her daughter Julie Emerson of Plantation, FL; grandson Justin of Plantation, FL; granddaughter Marilynn and great grandson Jacob of Pompano Beach, FL; and a sister Mildred Corbett of Cedar Rapids; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Richard; and sisters Arlene, Bernice, and Alice.

Aldene was born April 26, 1924 in Milford, Iowa the daughter of Elmer and Dora Wray. She graduated from high school in Harlan, Iowa. She married Richard Emerson on February 17, 1946 in Cedar Rapids. He preceded her in death on May 12, 2005. They were active at Bethany Methodist Church and were active rock hounds during their time in Madison. She served on several committees at Deer Ridge and was a volunteer at St. Luke’s Hospital. She was also a member of Lovely Lane United Methodist Church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the American Heart Association or a charity of the donor’s choice.

Mary A. Elmer
Born in Tupelo, Mississippi on March 9, 1930
Departed on February 22, 2010. Resided in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Service: Saturday, February 27, 2010
Mary A. Elmer, 79, of Manor Care died there on Monday February 22, 2010 after a long illness. Memorial services at 3:30 PM on Saturday at the First Church of the Nazarene where friends may call after 2:00 PM. Rev. Tim Carter will officiate. Mary’s body was donated to the University of Iowa for medical research. Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Survivors include two sons, Don (Donna) Thomas of Cedar Rapids, Anthony Elmer of Deptford, New Jersey and one daughter, Sandra (Ronny) Vann of Van Nyes, California; one sister, Mildred Donald and two brothers, James Sonny Oxner and Clarence Oxner all of Tupelo, Mississippi. She is also survived by five grandchildren, Kendra, Jenna, Samantha, Natalie and Samantha. She was preceded in death by her husband, one brother, Edward Oxner, two sisters, Della Lois Nanny, Louise Fowler and two grandchildren, Christian and Dylan.

Mary was born on March 9, 1930 in Tupelo, Mississippi, the daughter of Samuel and Mary Hussey Oxner. She married Edgar L. Elmer on February 23, 1952 in Cedar Rapids. He died in 1991. Mary was a homemaker, a member of the First Church of the Nazarene and the Women’s’ Auxiliary of the VFW. She was an avid Hawkeye and Chicago Cubs fan. Mary was a very caring person, always willing to help anyone. She was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother who will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Memorial donations may be given to Hospice Compassus in Mary’s name.

Catherine Joy Erdahl
Born in Snat Monica, CA on May 31, 1943
Departed on January 29, 2010. Resided in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Catherine Joy Erdahl, 66, of 2222 First Ave. NE passed away peacefully in the presence of her brother and sister-in-law on Friday January 29, 2010 at St. Lukes Hospital after a short illness. Private family memorial services on Saturday February 6th at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Inurnment at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include her brother, Clemens (Roxanne) Erdahl of rural Solon. She is also survived by one niece, Lillian (Luis) Erdahl of Hershey, PA., and three nephews, Colbin (Jen) Erdahl of Iowa City, Cory and Chase Haldeman both of Telluride, CO., a grand nephew, Clark Erdahl of Iowa City and many cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents and an infant brother, Christopher Colbin Erdahl.
Catherine was born on May 31, 1943 in Santa Monica, CA. the daughter of Clemens and Mary Lou Crozier Erdahl Sr. She grew up in Scarsdale, NY. and graduated from Scarsdale High School in 1961. She received a bachelor’s degree from Wellesley College in 1965. After graduation she took courses and worked at Harvard University. Later she received her master’s degree from Columbia University with highest honors.
She worked as an audio-visual consultant and executive assistant for Stone & Webster Engineering.
Catherine had a deep love of animals especially her two beloved cats, Thunder and Lighting. Throughout her life time she volunteered at various shelters.
Memorial contributions may be given to www.wittykitties.org (a shelter for special-needs cats) in Catherine’s name.

Lucian Jerry Fox
Born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa on January 5, 1922
Departed on December 16, 2010. Resided in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Lucian “Jerry” Fox, 88, of Summit Point in Marion passed away December 16, 2010 at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha after a long illness. Per Jerry’s request there will be no visitation or service. Inurnment at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Survivors include two daughters, Lynn (Gordon) Bowser of Marion and Leslie (Timothy) Carlson of Cedar Rapids; 6 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years Jean and his mother Vivian Fox.

Jerry was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Marion where donations may be given in lieu of flowers.

Condolences may be sent to 1455 Maplecrest Dr. in Marion 52302.

Dean "Ernie" Ernst

Dean “Ernie” Ernst, 65, of Cedar Rapids, died Thursday January 14, 2010 in the Dennis & Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy following a long illness. Services: 11:00 A.M. Monday at Christ Church Presbyterian by the Rev. Ron Lewis. Inurnment: Private. Visitation will be Sunday from 4-7 P.M. at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.

Survivors include his wife, Judy, a daughter, Kristine (Mike) Stensland and their children, Jared, Connor, Samantha and Sarah, of Rochester, Minnesota, a son, Mike (Cindy) Ernst and their children, Morgan, Emma and Mackenzie of Golden Valley, Minnesota, a sister, Margaret Kacena of Cedar Rapids and a brother, Allen (June) Ernst of Center Point. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.

His parents preceded him in death.

Dean was born July 12, 1944 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the son of George and Therese Kollenkark Ernst. He married Judy Scott on September 16, 1967 in Newhall. Dean retired from Linn County in 2005 after 34 years of service. Dean served in the Air Force during the Vietnam War. What was most important to Dean was spending time with his family and friends. He was always helping others- especially at his church and by serving on the Board of the Linn Community Food Bank. He enjoyed golf and watching his kids, grandkids and the Hawkeyes in various sports. Dean lived life to the fullest and never passed up the opportunity to eat desserts - especially ice cream.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Mercy, Caring Bridge or Linn Community Food Bank.
