Michael Lee Emerson 35, of Cedar Rapids, died suddenly in his home October 2, 2009. Memorial services will be held at 1 PM Wednesday at Cedar Memorial Westside Chapel. Inurnment in Rogers Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 PM on Tuesday at Cedar Memorial Westside Chapel.

Survivors include his daughter Seryna of Cedar Rapids, Parents Michelle (Ron) Stastny of Cedar Rapids, and Jim Emerson of Ft. Worth, Texas, a sister Melissa (Brandon) Dressler of Cedar Rapids, Aunts, Uncles, and Cousins. He was preceded in death by his grandparents Otho and Mildred England of Cedar Rapids, and Ralph and Jane Emerson of Stuart, Iowa, and Uncle Michael Lee England. Michael was born March 22, 1974 in Brunswick, Maine. He graduated from Kennedy High School in 1992 and worked at APAC. He spent most of his life in Cedar Rapids. He loved computer gaming, music, and movies, and most of all picking on his mom and sister.

His greatest love in his life was for his daughter, Seryna. He was a wonderful father to her. He had many friends and family and will be greatly missed.

In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established.

Diane L. Evans
Born in Holstein, Iowa on August 23, 1942
Departed on September 13, 2009. Resided in Marion, Iowa.

Diane L. Evans: 67, of Marion, IA, died Sunday afternoon, September 13, at her home after a courageous 20 year battle with cancer. A celebration of life service will be held Thursday, September 17, at 11:00 a.m. at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories with Rev. Mike Morgan of First United Methodist Church in Marion officiating. Burial will be in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 4 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday.

Diane Lenore Evans (Gellert), only child of Henry William Gellert and Lily Lenora Eicherly, was born August 23, 1942 in Holstein, IA and baptized in the First Methodist Church in Holstein, IA. Diane graduated in 1960 from Holstein High School and in 1964 from the University of Iowa with a BBA in Accounting. Diane was a member of Alpha Chi Omega sorority and Phi Gamma Nu professional business sorority. Diane worked for Peoples/Norwest Bank for 17 years as a Trust Officer and was a member of American Business Women’s Association. Diane married Clifford Rudolph Evans (her childhood crush) on February 14, 1965 in Cedar Rapids. Her greatest joy was the birth of her two children, Tracy and Clint. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Marion. She was an avid Hawkeye fan, especially football. Diane was preceded in death by her parents and grandparents.

Diane is survived by her husband, Cliff “Butch” of Marion, a daughter Tracy Pendergast (Michael) and grandchildren Jack and Amanda of White Bear Lake, MN, a son, Clint Evans (Lori) and grandchildren Alexis, Addelyn and Henry of Urbandale, IA, a sister-in-law Katheryn, who she considered her sister, and brother-in-law Jack McArtor of Cedar Rapids, her niece, Jaclin Hernandez (Al) and her great nieces, Tori and Laci Hernandez of Bradley, IL, her nephew, Mitchell McArtor of Cedar Rapids, and cousin, Dennis Grothaus of Holstein, IA and, many dear friends. Diane devoted her life to being the best wife, mother, grandmother and sister-in-law, and she succeeded in every way. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in memory of Diane.

Gail A Furnish
Born in Unionville, Missouri on September 4, 1925
Departed on August 2, 2008. Resided in Cedar Rapids, IA.

Gail A. Furnish, 83, of 1015 H Avenue NW, died August 2, 2008 at Northbrook Manor Care Center following a long illness. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, August 6, 2008 at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Friends may call Tuesday from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. Interment will take place at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.

Survivors include his children Edward Furnish of Cedar Rapids, Judy Gordon of Grandview, MO, Della McMenomy of Cedar Rapids, Diane Salehoglu and husband Hayder of Cedar Rapids, Donna Furnish of Paramus, NJ, and Randy Martinson of Baltimore, MD. Also surviving are his brother Neal Furnish of Unionville, MO and his 12 grandchildren, and 5 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a son Daniel Furnish, and his brothers and sisters Merieal Berry, Alvin Furnish, Neola Burgland, Geneva Perkens, Mildred Perkens, Aneta Wood, Hester Furnish, and Finis Furnish.

Gail A. Furnish was born September 4, 1925 in Unionville, Missouri the son of Otto and Anna Murphy Furnish. He was employed for 30 years at Wilson's Foods, which later became Farmstead. He was a member of the Eagles and previously the Future Farmer's of America. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, the outdoors, and spending time with family at his cabins. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan. He will be greatly missed by his family.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations in Gail's honor may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.

Anna R. Ealy
Born in Effingham, Illinois on March 8, 1918
Departed on August 3, 2009. Resided in Bettendorf, Iowa.

Anna R. Ealy, 91, of Bettendorf, IA died Monday morning, August 3, 2009 at the Bettendorf Health Care Center following a brief illness.

Funeral Service: 11:00 am Thursday, August 6, 2009 at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories with Rev. William Harnish officiating. Burial will be in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10:00 am until service time at the chapel on Thursday.

Survivors include her Sister, Louise Stepp of Loves Park, IL; Brother, Dale Parks of Belvedere, IL; Numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, spouse, 6 sisters and a brother.

Anna Ruth Parks was born March 8, 1918 in Effingham, IL the daughter of Harmon & Lillian (Osteen) Parks. She married Charles Ealy on March 6, 1937. He died March 23, 1972. Anna taught private music lessons for over 30 years. In her younger years, she enjoyed dancing and fishing and loved playing cards.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent in her name to, 1201 Albany St., Erie, IL 61250.

Don J. Engelbart
Born in Princeton, Nebraska on September 6, 1921
Departed on August 1, 2009. Resided in Belle Plaine, Iowa.

Service: Wednesday, December 31, 1969
Don J. Engelbart, 87, of Belle Plaine Nursing and Rehab in Belle Plaine formerly of Marion died Saturday Aug. 1, 2009 at the Rehab Center after a long illness. Memorial services will be held at a later date. Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Survivors include his wife, Vera, a resident of Belle Plaine Nursing and Rehab, four daughters, Karen (Robert) Bradley of Cedar Rapids, Reta (Jerry) Slaymaker of Guernsey, Joyce (Rey) Bray of Colorado Springs, Colorado and Donna (Michael) Stark of Swisher, and a brother, Wayne (Vera) of Lincoln, Nebraska. He is also survived by 9 grandchildren, and 19 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Lonnie.

Don was born on Sept. 6 1921 in Princeton, Nebraska, the son of John and Helen Schnake Engelbart. He married Vera F. Mills on March 7, 1942 in Chicago, Illinois. Don drove truck for several trucking firms for over 40 years most recently for Heartland Express until his retirement. He was a member of the Belle Plaine Congregational Church and proudly served as an army paratrooper during WWII.

A memorial fund has been established in Don’s name.

Victor William Ficken
Born in Williamsburg, IA on May 21, 1930
Departed on November 28, 2009. Resided in Tyler, TX.

Victor William Ficken, 79, of Tyler, TX went to be with the Lord on Saturday, November 28, 2009 surrounded by his family. A Memorial Service is scheduled for 1:00 P.M., Saturday, December 5, 2009 at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories in Cedar Rapids with Pastor Paul Scheidt officiating. The family will receive friends after 12:30 at the chapel. A memorial service will be held at a later date in Tyler, TX under the direction of Lloyd James Funeral Home in Tyler.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Louella Ficken; sisters, Verona Schmidt and Elfrieda Folkmann.

He is survived by his “angel” Joan Schneider of Tyler; sons, Charles (Joan) Ficken of Belle Plaine, Mark (Candy) Ficken of Palestine, TX and Mark Oetting of Pinetop AZ; daughters, Lynda Haddy of Cedar Rapids, Karen (Tom) Brown of Tyler; sisters, Lillian Johnson of Martelle, IA and Venita Muller of Clarinda, IA; brothers, Edgar Ficken of Williamsburg, Carl Ficken and Bill Ficken both of Cedar Rapids; 10 grandchildren; 1 great granddaughter, and many nieces and nephews.

Victor was born on May 21, 1930 in Williamsburg, IA to the late William and Mary Steinke Ficken. He served in the U.S. Marines and was employed by Ozark Airlines for 25 years and was a member of Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Tyler. He lived life with dignity even though he suffered and lived every day with chronic pain. Vic was known for his excellent carpentry skills. He enjoyed reading and spending time with his family and grandchildren and taught them about commitment to family, love for God and one another and how to live life simply. He was a beloved father, grandfather, brother and friend who will be forever missed.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church, 4900 Kinsey Dr., Tyler, TX 75703 or Trinity Lutheran School, 1361 – 7th Ave. SW, Cedar Rapids, IA 52404.

Geri Lavonne Feltz
Born in Cedar Rapids, IA on April 7, 1951
Departed on August 29, 2005. Resided in Marion, IA.

Geri Lavonne Feltz, 54, of Marion went to be with the Lord on Monday, August 29, 2005 at her home after a courageous battle with abdominal cancer. Services: 10:00 A.M. Thursday at First Baptist Church of Marion. Entombment: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call Wednesday from 4 PM to 9 PM at Cedar Memorial Funeral Home. The Rev. Randy Bobzien will officiate.
She is survived by her husband Lawrence Larry, sons Joshua and Benjamin, and a daughter Rachel all of Marion.
Also surviving are her parents James and Lavonne Hamilton of Cedar Rapids, brothers Thomas Hamilton Maria of Cedar Rapids, and Mark Hamilton Karen of Albuquerque, New Mexico.
She was born April 7, 1951 in Cedar Rapids, married Lawrence Feltz on October 15, 1977. She worked for Indian Creek Elementary School as a teaching assistant in the Behavior Development Program. She enjoyed teaching and was an avid quilter. She also enjoyed teaching Sunday School.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of St. Luke's or to KNWS Radio, Waterloo, Iowa.

Marylyn J. Earnest

Marylyn J. Earnest, of 107 Wilson Ave. Dr. SW died peacefully in her sleep after a short illness at her home on Thursday July 30, 2009. Services at 10:00 AM on Tuesday at Hope Lutheran Church. Rev. Dan Clark-Bridges will officiate. Entombment at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 5 to 8 PM on Monday.

Survivors include three sons, Ron, and Gary of Cedar Rapids and Terry (Marlene) of Midlothian, Va. Four grandchildren, Beau, Georgia (Jimmy) Cole, Jillian and Austin. Two great-grandchildren, Memphis and Connor, three brothers, Roger (Karen) Spratt of Mesa, AZ., John (Rosemary) Spratt of Webster City, Iowa and Howard (Myrna) Spratt of Lexington, KY., and her sister, Melita (Willard) Selph of Warner Robins, GA. Plus many nieces and nephews. Preceding her in passing are husband, George, parents Richard and Esther Spratt, brothers, Jim (Donna), Jerry, Draper (Leola), and sister, Judith (Duane) Schlitter.

Marylyn was born on November 29, 1932 in Nora Springs and married her beloved husband, George and made their home in Cedar Rapids in 1955. Marylyn worked at St. Lukes Hospital for over 20 years, retiring in 1993.

She was devoted to her grandkids, family and including the wonderful people at Hope Lutheran Church where she was active in all aspects of church life.
