Lynn L. Ferguson, 59, of 6903 Crow Wing Dr. NE, passed away Friday, November 26, 2010, at her home. Memorial services will be held at 11 AM Tuesday in Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Rev. Tammy Buseman will officiate. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 PM Monday at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home, and at the chapel after 10:30 AM Tuesday.
Surviving to honor her memory are her husband of 39 years Daniel, two sons Drew of Chicago, and Scott of Cedar Rapids, a daughter Kelly (Erik) Westin of Trussville, Alabama, three grandchildren Adalie, Aidan, and Vivian Westin, her father William A. Moore of Twin Lakes, Wisconsin, and sister Joyce (Robert) Fish of McHenry, Illinois. She was preceded in death by her mother, Lorraine E. Moore, a brother, William Moore, and sister Doreen Birk.
Lynn was born August 27, 1951, in Woodstock, Illinois. She married
Daniel Ferguson on September 11, 1971, in Harvard, Illinois. She was a devoted wife, mother, daughter, sister, and grandmother. She enjoyed quilting, sewing, drawing, calligraphy, and other crafts. Most of all she enjoyed spoiling her grandchildren. She was a member of Welcome Wagon.

Duane Keith Ely

Duane Keith Ely, 83, of 5101 Spencer Dr. SW, passed away peacefully on August 6, 2008, at his home among family and friends. Services, with military honors, commemorating his life will be held at 1 PM Saturday in Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Friends may call at the chapel after 12:30 PM on Saturday. Arrangements by Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.
Survivors include his wife of 30 years, Lois; sons, Tom Diane of Belleville, Illinois, Tim LuAnn of Homestead, Florida, Terry of Solon; and daughters, Kay of Shakopee, Minnesota and Tina Dale Carter of Lead, South Dakota. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; sister Jereta Logan; brother Richard Emmert of Marion, Illinois; and best friends the George Snyder family of Anamosa. He was preceded in death by his parents and good friend Skip Snyder.
Duane was born May 2, 1925, in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa to Robert and Bhula Ely. He served in the Navy doing duty in the South Pacific from 1942 – 1946. He married
Laurine Clark in 1949 and raised five children in Mt. Vernon from 1959 – 1972 and was active in Boy Scouts, the American Legion, and owned the South Side Tavern. In 1977 he married
Lois Henry while living in Cedar Rapids and working for Cherry-Burrell. In 1977 Duane and Skip Snyder started and operated Central Rebuilding Service until his retirement in 1989.
Duane enjoyed boating, hunting, fishing, and local youth sports. He spent much of his retirement doing renovation and wood working projects for family and friends.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions maybe made to St. Luke's Hospice, or to the American Cancer Society.

Ina Mae Eschen, 76, of 5421 Wyoming Dr. SW, died Sunday July 6, 2008 in West Ridge Care Center following a long illness. Services: 1:00 p.m. Thursday at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories by the Rev. Thomas Carver of Shueyville United Methodist Church. Friends may call on Wednesday from 5-8 p.m. at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. Intombment: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Survivors include a daughter, Darlene Dale Kilpatrick, four sons, Gary L. Eschen, Terry L. Eschen, Thomas L. Eschen all of Cedar Rapids, and Everett L. Julie Eschen of North Liberty. Surviving also are her siblings, Audrey Cook, Ellen Harris, Ramona Peterson, Marita Wilder, Zelda Andersen, Loretta Wright, Robert Franck and Maynard Franck, and 15 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
Ina was preceded in death by her husband Lee Eschen, grandson, Dustin Eschen, siblings, Merwin, Eugene, Janice, Lettica and Lanora.
Ina was born September 6, 1931 in Buchannan County the daughter of Robert and Jennie Oldridge Franck. Ina was united in marriage to Lee E. Eschen on January 27, 1950 in Independence. Iowa. She was employed at Collins Radio from 1955-1991. In her spare time she enjoyed selling Tupperware for 28 years. She was a loving mother, wife and grandmother and will be missed by her family and friends, tribute to the Eschen

Shirley Ward Ely

Shirley Mathews Ward "Polly" Ely, 88, of 203 - 23rd Street NE, died at Cottage Grove Place, Thursday, May 15, 2008, after a short illness with breast cancer. Memorial Services: 4 p.m. Saturday, June 7, 2008 at Peoples Church Unitarian Universalist by the Rev. Dr. Marlene R. Walker. Private Inurnment: Oak Hill Cemetery in the Ely Family Mausoleum. Cedar Memorial Westside Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include three children, John M. Ely III and wife Connie of Anamosa, Martha Ely Goralka and husband Joseph of Antioch, CA, and Nathaniel Ward Ely of Madison, WI; two foster sons, Charles M. Hudson of Iowa City and John Thomas of Tucson, AZ; five grandchildren, Elizabeth Ferring-Olson and husband, Gary of Antioch, CA, John T. Ferring and wife, Leah of Cedar Rapids, Victoria Ely-Fee and husband, Kenneth of Roswell, GA, Sarah Ely McCollum and husband, Greg of Myrtle Beach, SC, and John Isaac Ely of Anamosa; thirteen great grandchildren; and a first cousin, Julia Margaret Roberts of Oklahoma.
Polly was preceded in death by her parents; a half-sister, Frances; and her husband, John M. Ely Jr.
Polly was born on May 8, 1920, in Worcester, MA to Nathaniel F. and Grace Mathews Ward. Polly graduated Phi Beta Kappa, Suma Cum Laude from Mt. Holyoke College with a degree in Zoology.
She did graduate work at Wellesley before marrying John M. Ely Jr. of Cedar Rapids, IA in Worcester, MA on June 20, 1942. Polly taught school in New York City prior to her move to Iowa.
A committed civil libertarian in her own right, Polly worked to found and served on the first Cedar Rapids Human Rights Commission now the Civil Rights Commission. She was secretary and lifetime member of the NAACP, served as a counselor at the Cedar Rapids Rape Crisis Center and was instrumental in forming the Hawkeye Chapter of the ACLU in Iowa City. In recognition for John and Polly's contribution to civil liberties the ACLU Foundation of Iowa awarded the Louise Noun Civil Liberties Award to them both at it's May 5, 2007 dinner.
Mrs. Ely was a long-time member of the Peoples Unitarian Universalist Church, serving in many capacities including President of the congregation and its first professional Director of Religious Education, where she inspired dozens of children during her nineteen years of service. She adapted "Rebeka at the Well" for one of the Sunday Schools many 1950's era puppet shows, which she produced with Elizabeth Young. She supported the U.U. church camps for teenagers, chaperoned several camps and was active in denominational affairs particularly with the Prairie Star District. She was an active facilitator of her church covenant group.
Polly was a fervent advocate for peace, was active with Women For Peace and was seen protesting the Vietnam War. Mrs. Ely was selected as an outstanding woman of the year in Linn County in 1981 at the annual Women's Equality Day Celebration, held every August. She was an active supporter of Iowans Against the Death Penalty, an active member of the United Nations Association, and a strong supporter of the Democratic Party and its candidates. She was involved in the founding of the Iowa Medical Aid Fund and served as their first counselor. Polly lived her life as she believed it, visiting people in jail, driving students to Kirkwood, supporting Indian Movement during their Cedar Rapids federal trial in 1975. Polly and her husband John loved the outdoors, visiting Iowa's restored natural prairies, taking spring wildflower walks and were involved in the Iowa Environment Council, the Indian Creek Nature Center, Linn County Trails and more. Until a year ago, she swam several miles a week at the Cedar Rapids YMCA. Most recently she was active in lobbying for RESULTS, appealing to Congress for micro-enterprise, free education for primary schools in developing countries, and the Global Health Fund to fight AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria.
Polly Ely was a wonderful mother who loved not only her own children, but her foster kids, her foreign exchange students, grandchildren, great grandchildren, the children of her church, her neighborhood and her world.

Marlys was born July 30, 1935 in Boyd, Minnesota to Gustav and Martha Miersch Struck. She married
James A. "Jim" Frank on October 2, 1954 in Iowa City. He died May 19, 1996. Marlys was an assembly operator for Rockwell-Collins for 18 years. She was a member of the Center Point United Methodist Church, the VFW Post No 788 Women's Auxiliary, and the Collins Retirees. She greatly enjoyed her bowling and her local coffee group.

Raymond R. Eilers, 93, of 115 Morgan St. SW, died Thursday, April 17, 2008, in Mercy Medical Center following a sudden illness. Graveside services with military honors at 10 AM Monday in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Rev. Paul Scheidt will officiate. Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 2 to 4 PM on Sunday.
Survivors include his sister Mary Waterhouse of Cedar Rapids and cousins in Missouri and Minnesota. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Raymond was born July 26, 1914 in Austin, Minnesota to Herman and Clara Rieken Eilers. He served in the US Army during WW II. He worked in the packaging department at Van de Kamp's Bakery for 26 years.

Laura Jean Frazier
Born in San Diego, CA on June 25, 1955
Departed on December 7, 2009. Resided in Middle Amana, IA.
Laura Jean Frazier, 54, of 2706 220 th Trail, Middle Amana, died Monday December 7, 2009 in the Dennis & Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy with her husband by her side after a courageous battle with liver cancer. Services will be held at a later date. Cedar Memorial Westside Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include her husband, Gregory Schminkey, a sister, Maggie Mae Smith of Phoenix, Arizona, brother and sister in laws, several nieces and nephews and one great nephew.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother and a sister.
Laura was born June 25, 1955 in San Diego, California the daughter of Aubert and Eloise Johnson Frazier. She married
Gregory Schminkey on November 1, 2007 in Victor, Iowa. She was an assembler for Whirlpool in Amana. She enjoyed gardening, reading and creating art work. When she lived in Kansas she grew flowers to sell at the Farmers Market where she was known as the flower lady. Laura also enjoyed pets and especially fond of her parrot.
