Mary Hutchinson Freed, 84, of Meadow View Memory Care Village, died Saturday, October 28, 2006, at Mercy Medical Center, after a short illness. Memorial Services: 11 AM Thursday at Bethesda Lutheran Church, Ames by the Rev. Randy Gehring. Burial: Ames Municipal Cemetery, Ames. Friends may call at Turner West Funeral Home Tuesday from 5 to 8 pm.
Survivors include her son Robert Karen Friest of Cedar Rapids; a daughter, Janice Hennigar of Deerfield Beach, FL; 6 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands; a sister, Virginia Diserens; and her son-in-law, James Hennigar.
Mary was born July 10, 1922 to Ernest and Emma Martin. She married
Donald H. Friest in 1943 in Yakima, WA. He died in 1965. She later married
Sherrill P. Freed in 1971 in Ames. He died in 1990. Mary worked for the City of Ames and later was an officer at the First National Bank of Ames. Mary was an active member at Bethesda Lutheran Church all of her life. She and Sherrill spent many winters at Palm Gardens in Mesa, Arizona where she was very active in planning activities for the community. After Sherrill died, she was the founding member of the "Souls and Singles" group for anyone who had lost a spouse or partner. Mary enjoyed dancing and playing cards with her many friends.

Ervin J. "Hooker" Frese 77, of 2037 G. Ave NE, died Wednesday, May 30th, 2007, at Crestview Acres Care Center in Marion, following a long illness. Funeral Mass 10 AM Monday at St. Matthew's Catholic Church by Rev. Mark Osterhaus. Burial in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be held at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories from 5 to 8 PM on Sunday with a Rosary at 7 PM. Arrangements by Cedar Memorial Funeral Home.
Survivors include his wife Sandy of 52 years, brother Bill and wife Donna of Cedar Rapids, granddaughter Amanda and three great grandchildren, sister-in-law Betty Frese of Amana, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, son Greg, grandson Greg Jr., brothers Floyd and Frank.
Ervin was born November 10, 1929 in Norway, Iowa, the son of Joe and Elizabeth Frese. He married
Sandra Burnett on February 19, 1955 in Cedar Rapids.
He was employed with Gateway Transportation for 24 years as a truck driver. He was a member of Teamsters Union Local 238, St. Matthew's Catholic Church, Catholic Order of Foresters, and a past member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles.

John L. Feld, 48, of Cedar Rapids, died Saturday, June 16, 2007, in his home from natural causes.
John, the son of Mary Kay and John B. Feld, of Santa Barbara, California, was born June 22, 1958. He graduated from West Delaware High School in Manchester, Iowa, in 1977. He then attended the University of Northern Iowa and received a degree in political science. He went on to a long employment with Econofoods in Cedar Rapids.
John was an easygoing guy who was always quick with a smile. He loved to socialize with friends and family, and enjoyed talking sports and discussing politics. John was a very generous person who will be dearly missed.
Survivors include his parents Mary Kay and John B. Feld, of Santa Barbara, California; two brothers, Stephen Julia Feld of State Center, Iowa; Dan Dianne of Cedar Rapids; three sisters, Ann Marie Feld of Santa Barbara, California; Angela Blake Wilkinson of Marion, and Terese John Fisher of Cedar Rapids; two nieces Shelby and Laura and five nephews, Joseph, Matthew, Brian, Jacob, and Patrick.
An infant brother, Patrick, preceded him in death.
Cedar Memorial Funeral Home provided the cremation services. There will be a visitation on Friday, June 22nd from 6PM to 8PM, with a Vigil Service at 7PM, at Cedar Memorial Funeral Home, with private family services to be held at a later date.
Doris L. Freeman

Doris L. Freeman, 79, of Santee, California, formerly of Hiawatha died Monday, June 18, 2007 at the Carmel Mountain Rehabilitation and Health Care Facility in San Diego, California after a short illness. Per Doris' request there will be no visitation or service. Inurnment in the Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Cedar Memorial Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include two daughters, Nancy Michael Knefley of Yuma, Arizona and Mary Freeman of San Diego, California. She is also survived by two grandchildren, Katy and Amanda Knefley. She was preceded in death by her husband, a daughter, Linda, and a son John.
Doris was born on Sept. 7, 1927 in Waterloo, the daughter of Charles and Alice Brown Murphy. She married
Lynn R. Freeman on Nov. 29, 1946 in Troy, Kansas. He died in 1979. Doris was a clerk at Kieck's Postal Substation and retired from there after 5 years of service. Doris was a wonderful wife, mother, and grandmother. She will be greatly missed.

Louise E. Fowler, 74, of 3090 25th Ave. in Marion died Wed. June 20, 2007 at the Oldorf Hospice House in Hiawatha after a short illness. Services at 1:00 PM on Monday at the Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. Chaplain Kim Vogel will officiate. Burial at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call at the Cedar Memorial Funeral Home from 2 to 5 PM on Sunday.
Survivors include her husband and soul mate, Ralph, three sons, James Tammy Loes of Monticello, Donald Loes of Charles City and Mark Loes of California, four step sons, James Fowler of Marion, Bud Teresa Fowler of Davenport, Dick Suzette Fowler of California and John Fowler of Cedar Rapids, 2 step daughters, Audrey Myron Wilcox of Cedar Rapids, and Mary Tom Long of Marion, three sisters, Mary Schrader of Melcher-Dallas, Iowa, Loretta Gordon Ray of Creston, Janet David Ritchie of Knoxville and a brother, Kelly Deanna Agan of Des Moines. She is also survived by 21 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and 10 great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, a daughter, Susan and a brother-in-law, Bill Schrader.
Louise was born on Nov. 15, 1932 in Knoxville, the daughter of James and Mary Kelly Agan. She married
Ralph V. Fowler Sr. on April 27, 1979 in Kirksville. Louise was a self-employed housekeeper for several years. She was member of the Eagles Club. Louise approached life with a positive attitude. She always wanted everyone to be happy, comfortable and full- full of love or food. She was truly a wonderful person. A memorial fund has been established in Louise's name.
Jerome Harry Furmanski

Jerome "Harry" Furmanski, 79, of 4015 Council St. NE, died Sunday, September 30, 2007, in Mercy Medical Center following a short illness. Services at 10 AM Thursday in Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Rev. Ken Glandorf of Mercy Medical Center will officiate. Burial with military honors in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 5 to 8 PM on Wednesday and at the chapel after 9:30 AM on Thursday.
Survivors include his wife of nearly 57 years Carol, their children, Tom of Cedar Rapids, Lois Webb and husband Tim of Lake Elsinore, California, and Robert of Cedar Rapids, a brother Richard Furmanski and wife Barbara of High Point, North Carolina, granddaughter Carrie Farmer and husband Jeremy and great-granddaughter Kyleigh Farmer all of Cedar Rapids. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Harry was born August 7, 1928 in Calumet City, Illinois to Harry and Elsie Orminski Furmanski. He married
Carol Czyz on October 7, 1950 in Chicago, Illinois. He served with the US Army during WW II in Japan. He was manager of sales for the Swift Company from 1949 to 1980. He then worked in the Meat Shop at the Amana Colonies from 1980 to 1992. He was a member of VFW Post No 788.

Mary Bernice Franklin

Mary Meinen Franklin, 95, of the Hiawatha Care Center, died there Monday, October 1, 2007, after a short illness. Funeral Mass: 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Jude Catholic Church by the Rev. Michael Podhajsky. Burial: St. John Cemetery. A vigil service will be held at 5:30 p.m. today at Cedar Memorial Westside Chapel where friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. and after 10 a.m. Thursday at the church. Cedar Memorial Westside Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include a son, Richard Wilma Meinen of Jacksonville, OR; a daughter, Donna Alger; a sister, Monica Skahill of Virginia Beach, VA; a daughter-in-law, Cheryl Franklin; 10 grandchildren; 21 great grand children; and 9 great-great grandchildren. Mary was preceded in death by her first husband, Bill Meinen, her second husband Gib Franklin; 4 brothers, and 2 sisters.
Mary was born on December 14, 1911 in Cascade to Thomas and Loretta Reisdorf. She was married
to William Meinen who died in 1971. She then married
Gilbert Franklin in 1973. He died in 1990. Mary was employed at Rockwell Collins for over 25 years, retiring in 1974. She was a member of St. Jude Catholic Church and Mother Cabrini Circle. She loved to do crafts, garden, and travel. She and Gib spent many winters in Brownsville, Texas.
The family would like to give special thanks to Dr. Mary Ann Nelson and the staff at Hiawatha Care Center for the loving care given to Mary.
