Jeannette Faas, 88, of Hiawatha, died Saturday, April 9, 2011 at the Hiawatha Care Center. Services: 11 a.m. Wednesday April 13 at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories by the Rev. Dan Krueger. Interment: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. A visitation will be held on Tuesday April 12 from 4 to 6 p.m. at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.

Survivors include her children; Lynda (Robert) Hembera of Hiawatha, Steven Faas of Hiawatha, Vicky (Dennis) Jobe of Toddville, two brothers; David Williams of Hiawatha and Russell (Maxine) Williams of Monticello, four grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband James, parents, three sisters, two brothers, and a great grandson.

Jeannette was born August 24, 1922 in Williamsburg to Gwilyn and Mary Williams. She married James Faas on December 31, 1945 in Cedar Rapids. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Hiawatha and active with the Ladies Guild.

A memorial fund has been established.

Lois M. Ferreter
Born on May 10, 1926
Departed on April 17, 2011. Resided in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Lois M. Ferreter, 84, of Cedar Rapids, died at home early Sunday, April 17, 2011.
Services are pending with Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.

Survivors include children, Dick Ferreter of Cedar Rapids, Colleen Ferreter of Peoria, AZ, and Randy Ferreter and wife, Terry of Orlando, FL as well as four grandchildren, Kyle and Ross Ferreter-Smith and Justin and Rachel Ferreter. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Norman.

Lois was born May 10, 1926. Her parents were Dr. Walter and Ethel Pflughaupt of Oelwein, Iowa. She attended Iowa State Teachers College and taught for a few years before marrying Norman Ferreter on June 3, 1950. Lois loved children and taught for many years in the Cedar Rapids School District. She was the quintessential kindergarten teacher and loved holidays. She continued to decorate her home to match each season and Christmas was an extravaganza. Lois was an avid bargain shopper, wonderful friend and a loving wife and mother.

Gerald Edward Frazier

Gerald Frazier, 84, of Cedar Rapids, passed away Friday, May 7, 2010 at West Ridge Care Center. Services: 2 p.m. Tuesday at Cedar Memorial Westside Chapel by Raymond Zook. Interment: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery with military honors. Visitation will be held at the funeral home at 1 p.m. prior to the service.

Gerald was born March 5, 1926 in Fairfield to Grace Lucille and Efram John Frazier. He was a WWII Navy veteran. He was retired from Cherry Burrell where he once held the position of Union President for three years. He was a member of the American Legion. He spent his free time enjoying the outdoors, fishing and working around his home, but most of all, spending time with his family.

Gerald is survived by his loving daughters, Sheryl (Kimm) Stastny and Barbara (Steve) Ward; daughter-in-law, Rita Zook; brother, Milford (Elaine) Frazier; seven grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild. Gerald was preceded in death by his wonderful wife of 54 years, Alice, his son, Steven, his parents, Grace and Efram, sister, Shirley Hughes, and brothers, Beryl and Joe.

Arlene Furler
Born in Benton County, Iowa on May 26, 1921
Departed on June 24, 2011. Resided in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Arlene M. Furler, 90, of Cedar Rapids passed into Eternal Glory early Friday, June 24 after a lingering cancer illness at the Hospice House of Mercy. Funeral service at Bethany Lutheran Church, Wednesday June 29 at 11:00 AM with Pastor Joe Polzin officiating. Visitation will be held at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home Tuesday, June 28, from 4:00-7:00 PM and one hour prior to the service at Bethany Lutheran at 10:00 AM Wednesday. Entombment at Cedar Memorial Park Mausoleum.

Arlene was born May 26, 1921 in rural Blairstown to Albert and Mary (Siek) Tiedemann. She was baptized and confirmed in the Christian faith at Grace Lutheran Church, Blairstown. She graduated from Blairstown High School in 1939 and married the love of her life, Martin Furler June 28, 1939 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, West Rutland Township, Minnesota. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Susan and David Ridout of Cedar Rapids, grandson Matthew (Wendy) Ridout of Ankeny, granddaughter Tracy (Jason) Alt of Cedar Rapids, and great-grandchildren Krista, Jillian and Connor Alt. Also surviving are sisters-in-law Darlene Tiedemann of Blairstown and Mary Furler of Ely as well as numerous nieces and nephews, cousins and devoted friends. Preceding her in death were her parents, a brother, Renn Tiedemann and her husband Martin in 1976.

A member of Bethany Lutheran Church of Cedar Rapids, she loved her many years of volunteering in the church office and participating in Leisure League activities. Her other volunteer work included assisting in the Flower-Gift Shop and Baby Gift Shop at St. Luke’s Hospital where she dearly loved helping others. Following the death of her husband in 1976, Arlene worked at Younkers Department Store, Lindale, for 25 years.

Arlene and her husband were members of Elmcrest Country Club where she remained an active golfer until age 84. She also played in several Bridge groups for many years. Her Bridge friends were so special to her and she remained active until two weeks before her death. She enjoyed Iowa Hawkeye sports, dining out and attending theater and symphony events, and gardening in her daughter Susan’s yard. Arlene was very proud of her rural heritage and upbringing and made numerous visits to the Benton County area to see the progress of her farm crops as well as revisiting family members still in the area and anything that reminded her of her days on the farm.

Arlene was a special friend to many, a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She was always caring, loving and supportive to her family and loved entertaining and cooking for family gatherings.

Memorials may be directed to the Vinton Lutheran Home in Vinton, IA, or to Lutheran World Relief and Human Care, PO Box 66861, St. Louis, MO 63166-6861 or to a charity of the donor’s choice.

Arlene’s family is grateful to the many involved in her care and support during this illness; Doctor Chirantan Ghosh and staff, Dr. Kenneth Cearlock, her caring nurses and professionals at The Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice of Mercy as well as Peggy and Pamela at St. Luke’s Hospice; and Parish Nurse Ronda Anderson and Pastor Joe Polzin of Bethany Lutheran and numerous friends and family who made her final days peaceful and comforting.

Roger R. Fink
Born in Racine, MN on February 21, 1934
Departed on June 25, 2011. Resided in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Roger R. Fink, 77, of Cedar Rapids, died at the Hospice House of Mercy, Saturday, June 25, 2011. Memorial Services: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Matthew Catholic Church by the Rev. David Beckman. Inurnment: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive visitors at the church one hour prior to the service. Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home is entrusted with arrangements.

Survivors include his wife, Kathryn, of 52 years; children, Kayla (Todd) Davis of Cedar Rapids and Susan Smith of Milwaukee, WI; brother, Robert (Donna Jean) Fink of La Mirada, CA; sister, Donna Mae Ham of Long Beach, CA; and one grandson, Joshua Smith.

Roger was born February 21, 1934 in Racine, MN to Ray and Marjorie Fink. Roger married Kathryn Keenan on November 28, 1959 in Waterloo. He was employed by John Deere for many years, retiring in 1993. He was a member of St. Matthew Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus.

Memorials may be directed to the family.

Joni L. Feller
Born in Kirksville, Missouri on January 16, 1958
Departed on March 11, 2012. Resided in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Joni L. Feller, 54, of Cedar Rapids, died March 11, 2012 at Manor Care Health Service following an extended illness. There will be a private graveside service to celebrate Joni’s life at 2:00 pm, Thursday, March 15, 2012 at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery with the Rev. Bobby Dickerson officiating.

Survivors include husband Paul, of 30 years and brother Derick Blizek of Davenport. Joni was preceded in death by her parents.

Joni L. Feller was born January 16, 1958 in Kirksville, Missouri to Keith and Eleanor (Clark) Blizek. She married Paul Feller on September 26, 1981 in Dubuque, Iowa and worked many years as a computer programmer in the insurance industry. Joni loved reading, gardening and spending time with animals.

Special thanks to all the doctors and nurses that helped with the care of Joni during the last five years. Their compassion and kindness was greatly appreciated.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be given in memory of Joni to the American Cancer Society.
