Anthony R. Fontana, 89, of Cedar Rapids, died peacefully Tuesday March 19, 2013 surrounded by his family at the Dennis & Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy. Services: 10:00 a.m. Friday at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. A visitation will be Thursday from 5-8 p.m. at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. Inurnment: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Survivors include his sons; Jeffrey M. Fontana and wife Debra L. of Richland Center, Wisconsin and Timothy R. Fontana and wife Donna M. of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, a daughter in law, Jan Fontana of Fairfield, Iowa, his grandchildren; Bradley S. Fontana of Phoenix, Arizona, Stefani F. Geurts and husband Adam of Deforest, Wisconsin, Anthony M. Fontana of Richland Center, Wisconsin, Rebecca L. Pierce and husband Chuck of Cresco, Iowa, Jodi M. Tacker and husband Jeremiah of Marion, Iowa and Sarah L. Kryger and husband James of Anamosa, Iowa, and his 8 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Marilyn, and three sons, Thomas, Steven and Gregory, his parents and a sister, Mary Jenson.
Anthony was born February 6, 1924 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the son of Thomas and Frances Guireno Fontana. He married
Marilyn J. Rooks on March 21, 1946 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Anthony was employed at Rockwell Collins in the Graphic Arts Department. He was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church and was active in the Jefferson High School Booster Club. Anthony loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. They meant everything to him. His hobbies were fishing, hunting, gardening, golf and woodworking. He also enjoyed vacationing in Orange Beach, Alabama. Anthony was loved by his family and friends and will be greatly missed by all.

William Kilgour Falls
Born in Clyde Bank, Scotland on November 23, 1912
Departed on August 15, 2009. Resided in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
William Kilgour Falls, 96, a resident of The Villages At Marion, died August 15, 2009 following an extended illness. Memorial services at 11:00 AM Monday at First Congregational Church. William will be cremated and his inurnment will be in St. Jean Sur Richelieu in Quebec, Canada at a later date. Cedar Memorial Park funeral Home is in charge of arrangements,
He is survived by his wife Betty of Cedar Rapids. Also surviving are sons William Falls of Whistler, British Columbia, Ian and wife Dawn Falls of Georgetown, Ontario. Also surviving are three step-children, Anne Bair Wilcox and husband Gary of Mission Viejo, CA, Ted Bair of Mason City, and Molly Bair Williams and husband Mark of Cedar Rapids. His sister Catherine Carson and sister-in-law Charlotte Falls both of Canada also survive. Bill and Betty have 11 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, a brother, and his first wife.
William was born in Clyde Bank, Scotland to Alexander and Johan Falls on November 23, 1912. His family immigrated to Canada in 1920. Bill attended McGill University in Montreal and graduated Summa Cum Laude in 1935. He married
Mary Stuart Doreen Cook in 1943. They had two sons William and Ian. Mary died of cancer in 1974. Bill served in the Royal Canadian Air force until the end of the WWII hostilities in 1945. He spent all his working years in the chemical and pharmaceutical industry, retiring in 1977. Bill married
Elizabeth (Betty) Bair in 1981 and became a United States citizen in 1986 He enjoyed fishing, gardening and golf. He and Betty enjoyed several international trips in their married
years and wintered in Florida for many years. They resided in Mason City until moving to Cedar Rapids in 2007. He was a member of First Congregational Church United Church of Christ in Mason City, and attended First Congregational United Church of Christ in Cedar Rapids.

Phillip J. Fishell, 62, of 3229 Fishel Rd, Marion, died Thursday, November 12, 2009, in his home. Services with military honors will be held at 2 PM Monday in Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Burial in Lafayette Cemetery. Visitation will be at the chapel from noon to service time on Monday. Arrangements by Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.
Survivors include his wife Pam, their children, Phillip Jr. (Aimee) of Atkins, Iowa, Chad with the US Navy in San Diego, California, Jaime (Tim) Whitehead Center Point, Alicia (Ryan) Porter of Center Point, Jacob (Erin) of Cedar Rapids, Joseph (Michaela) of Cedar Rapids, and Caleb (Natalie) with the US Airforce in Las Vegas, Nevada, two sisters Sara (Merrill) Strand Marion, and Amy (Nick) Caves of Alburnett, brother Russell Fishell Jr. of Cedar Rapids, and eight grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers Terry and Robert.
Phillip was born February 16, 1947 in Cedar Rapids to Russell and Clarissa Knowles Fishell. He married
Pam Cowell on February 16, 1973 in Toddville. He was employed as an electrician for American Profol Inc. He served with the US Navy in Vietnam. He was a member of River of Life Ministries, IBEW Union #51, and Hanford American Legion Post No 5. He enjoyed restoring old cars, remote control model airplanes and cars, fishing, camping, making family videos, and spending time with his family.

Judy A. Fruehling, 64, of Mt. Vernon, died November 19, 2009 in her home following a 30 year battle with MS, and a recent battle with cancer. Memorial services will be held 11:00 AM, Friday, November 27, 2009 at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories, Cedar Rapids. Chaplain Tammy Buseman of Mercy Hospice will officiate. Inurnment will take place at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Surviving are her husband Eldon; children Denise A. Carpenter and husband Terry of Anamosa, and Howard E. and wife Tia of Center Point; grandchildren Kaitlyn and Hailey; special family friend Tony Schultz; sisters Connie Bender and husband Jerry of Cummings, GA, Sharon Porch and husband Harry of Roswell, GA, Debbie Simonsen and husband Roy of Alpharetta, GA, and Billie Jo Graham of Jeffersonville, IN; her beloved dog Princess; as well as several nieces and nephews and extended family members.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and a nephew Derek.
Judy Ann Fruehling was born January 12, 1945 in Manchester the daughter of Howard J. & Novalean (Alderson) Glass. She was united in marriage to Eldon W. Fruehling on June 27, 1964 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Cedar Rapids. She and Eldon owned and operated Glass Trucking for several years. In recent years she enjoyed traveling over the road with Eldon. She enjoyed time spent at the cabin in North Buena Vista. Her greatest enjoyment was time spent with family and friends, especially her grandchildren. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend to many who will be greatly missed.

Carolyn A. Fredericksen, 66, of 910 27th St. Marion died Tuesday Nov. 4, 2008 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester, MN. after an extended illness. Services at 11 AM on Friday at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Private family inurnment at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 5 to 8 PM on Thursday.
Survivors include her husband, Donald, three daughters, Jean (Daniel) Barnd of Mt. Vernon, Peggy Fredericksen and Kim (David) White all of Marion. She is also survived by five grandchildren, Tiffani (Drew), Jason, Chad, Brandon, Haley and her pet dog, Sofie.. She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, Mary Lou and two brothers, Steven and David.
Carolyn was born on April 21, 1942 in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of Marven and Bessie Pinch Nielsen. She married
Donald Fredericksen on Jan. 16, 1957 in Cedar Rapids. Carolyn worked at Carfrae Meat Co and retired from there after many years of service. She later worked in the deli at Sun Mart in Marion for several years. She was a member of the Marion YMCA and had been a former Cedar Rapids City Bowling Champion. Carolyn enjoyed playing bingo, arts and crafts, scrapbooking, and especially spending time with her many friends and beloved family. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established in Carolyn’s name.
Ralph Fandel, Jr

The proud family of Ralph Fandel, Jr. announce his gentle passing on October 22, 2008, at Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids. Ralph was a loving son, husband, father, grandfather, and brother who leaves a legacy of immense moral character, kindness, and spiritual wealth.
Ralph was born on August 23, 1921 in Whittemore, Iowa. He served honorably in the United States Navy for 20 years, rising to the rank of Chief Petty Officer. He lived his early adult life in California, and he traveled the world while in the Navy, particularly assisting with the repair of Navy vessels damaged in Pearl Harbor during World War II. Ralph moved to Cedar Rapids in 1960 and lived there for more than 30 years. There he was a member of St. Jude’s Catholic Church. For the past three years, he has resided with his wife Joan (Louise) in Mechanicsville. Previous to that he lived in Davenport.
He is survived by his loving wife Joan (Louise) Fandel of Mechanicsville; six children, Carol (Dan) Taylor, Nancy (John MacQueen) Fandel, Kathleen (David) Erusha, Paula (Loran) Erdmann, Sharon (Ron) Cummins, and Judy (Rod) Gipson; eleven grandchildren and their spouses: Lori, Matthew, Emily, Crystal, Laura, Elizabeth, Hillary, Bradley, Ross, Jacob, and Kaleb, ; two step-children, Amanda (Dennis) Faust and Adam (Susan) Robinson; two step-grandchildren, Sarah and Daniel Robinson; five of his 13 siblings and four in-laws, Michael (Rosemary) Fandel; Ida Rose Barone; Carol McGuire; Thomas (Jo) Fandel, Alice (David) Flock, and sister-in-law Darlene Fandel; loving friend of 45 years, Nick Yost; and many, many caring extended family members, friends, and long-time acquaintances.
Ralph was preceded in death by his father, Ralph Fandel, Sr., his mother, Hildred (Elbert) Fandel, his son, Michael Ralph Fandel, and eight brothers and sisters: Mary Ilah Fandel, Willard (Jess) Fandel, Josephine Rink, Gervase (Fandel) Luedke, Robert Fandel, Stanley (Duke) Fandel, Shirley (Fandel) Nichols, and Donald Fandel. His wife of 35 years, Mary T. (Crowley/Doyle) Fandel also preceded him in death.
He worked for more than 20 years with his brothers Jess, Mike, and Don at Fandel Electric in Cedar Rapids. His last position there was as president of the company. Ralph also founded MarJu engraving business. Never wanting to retire, he drove airport van for Mike McGrath Auto Center, became a blackjack dealer with Isle of Capri in Bettendorf at the age of 82, and he traveled as much as he could, driving alone from Iowa to California and back at the age of 83, and to Florida for one of his grandaughter’s wedding. He loved to fish, especially with his father and son when they were alive, his dearest friend Nick Yost, his sons-in-law, his grandchildren, and just about anyone who was up for it.
Ralph had a deep and abiding faith in God. He was a proud charter member of St. Jude Catholic Church, where he served as a lector and rarely missed daily mass in his 30-some years as a parishioner. A teacher in the Navy and a longtime member of Toastmasters, Ralph took his teaching and speaking skills to St. Jude’s where he instructed new lectors. He was also a member of the Knight’s of Columbus for a number of years.
Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 25, at St. Jude Catholic Church. Friends may call from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM, Friday October 24, 2008 at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home where a prayer service will begin at 6:00 PM. Interment will take place at St. Joseph Cemetery, Cedar Rapids. Military Rites will be held by American Legion Hanford Post #5.
