Harry A. Fox, 80, of 620 41st St. NE died Tuesday March 31, 2009 at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha after a long illness. Funeral Mass: 1:00 PM on Friday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Burial with military rites at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 4 to 7 PM on Thursday where there will be a rosary at 6:30 PM
Survivors include his wife, Marie, a step-daughter, Theresa (Tim) Rowland and a step-son, Vaundon Williams II all of Cedar Rapids. He is also survived by five grandchildren, Kennedy, Adam, Matthew, Ryan, and Daniel and a great granddaughter, Mya. He was preceded in death by his parents, a step-daughter, Chris and a brother.
Harry was born on Feb. 26, 1929 in Cedar Rapids, the son of Harry and Carmelita King Fox. He graduated from Marion High School and later from the University of Iowa. Harry married
Marie Lynch in Cedar Rapids. He was a CPA for Vigortone Ag. Products for 30 years and retired from there in 1981 as a comptroller. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church where he was a regular volunteer, SCORE, where he had recently received the Platinum Award, and the VFW Post NO. 788. He also was a 4th degree member of Council 909 of the Knights of Columbus, and proudly served in the Navy as an electrician during WWII. Harry enjoyed golf and belonged to several golf clubs as well as being an avid duplicate bridge player. Military rites by VFW Post No. 788.
Memorial donations may be given to Mercy Hospice in Harry’s name.

Charlie W. Forrester, 76, of 1148 34th St NE, died Monday April 13, 2009 in the Dennis & Donna Hospice House of Mercy from lung cancer. Services: 11:00 a.m. Thursday at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories by the Rev. Rick Gail. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call on Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home today from 4-7 p.m and after 10:30 a.m. at the chapel on Thursday.
Charlie was born June 27, 1932 in Marengo, Iowa to William Forrester and Margaret Forrester Vitek.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Beverly, a son, Rick Forrester and wife Wendy, a brother, Dennis Forrester and wife Marjorie, grandchildren, Aaron Forrester and wife Emily, Andrew Forrester and wife Wendy, and a great grandchild, Audrey Sue Forrester, sisters-in-law, Rosie Morrison, Linda Vitek, and a brother-in-law, Tom Camp. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews.
Charlie was preceded in death by his infant son, Rusty Loren Forrester, his parents, and a brother, Gary Vitek, and infant sister, Joan Eileen Forrester.
Charlie served in the Army during the Korean Conflict. He worked for Wilson Foods/ Farmstead for 37 years. Chuck loved to grocery shop and cook. When he was younger he loved to hunt and fish for catfish. He was an excellent carpenter and taught himself most of the trades. Chuck was a member of First Assembly of God, V.F.W. and the American Legion. He served 4 years as a Cub Scout Leader and 4 years as Boy Scout Leader for Troop 26. After Beverly retired they bought a motor home and traveled. They loved to camp, have campfires and go fishing. He was loved by his family and friends and will be greatly missed.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Dr. Roof, St. Luke’s Hospice Staff, Amber and Amy for the loving care they gave to Chuck.

Leonard J. Fuller, 88, of 400 30th Street NW died Tuesday April 14, 2009, while visiting his daughter in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida after a sudden illness. Services at 10:00 AM on Saturday at the First Christian Church. Rev. Fred Darbonne will officiate. Burial at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery where there will also be military rites. Friends may call at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 5 to 8 PM on Friday.
Survivors include two sons, Gordon (Barbara) of Cedar Rapids and Fredrick (Alice) of Casa Grande, Arizona; three daughters, Karen Brown of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, Sherry (Daniel) Gerrity of Milwaukie, Oregon and Vicki (Donald) Berry of Midland, Michigan; one brother, Rev. Kirby (Dixie) of Olathe, Kansas and two sisters, Pauline Drumm of Muscatine and Rosemary Vaverka of Chula Vista, California. He was preceded in death by his wife, Gertrude, and four brothers, Lyle, Elton, Richard and Robert.
Leonard was born on May 15, 1920 in Newton, Kansas the son of Arthur and Anna Bottger Fuller. He married
Gertrude W. Stieger on June 4, 1943 in Cedar Rapids. She died in 2000.Leonard was an engineer-estimator for several local plumbing wholesalers for many years, retiring in 1985. He was a member of VFW Post 788, and Cedar Christian Church where he was an elder, Sunday school teacher and choir member. He proudly served in the Army Air Corps during WWII. Leonard was a wonderful person who was devoted to his family and his Church. Memorial donations may be given to Cedar Christian Church. Military rites by VFW Post No. 788.

Lila B. Freeman, 87, of Atkins, died April 24, 2009 at St. Luke’s Hospital following an extended illness. Funeral services will be held 10:00 AM, Monday, April 27, 2009 at Pleasant Hill Presbyterian Church, Atkins. Rev. Mike Andrew will officiate. Friends may call at the church on Sunday, April 26, 2009 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Burial will take place at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery, Cedar Rapids. Arrangements by Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.
Survivors include her sister Violet Gratton of Dubuque, 9 nieces and nephews, and several great nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Howard, sisters Dorothy Cornwell and Eleanor Coohey, and brothers Donald and Lyle Snyder.
Lila was born July 3, 1921 in McGregor, the daughter of Jesse L. and Martha A. (Place) Snyder. She served her country honorably during WWII in the Women’s Army Auxiliary Corps, receiving the rank of Staff Sergeant. She was united in marriage to Howard S. Freeman on September 29, 1946 in Cedar Rapids. She owned her own beauty shop which was adjacent to her husband’s business, Freeman Electric. She later was employed at Collins Radio in Cedar Rapids, and the Coca Cola Company. She was a member of the American Legion, Eastern Star White Lilly Chapter 427, and Pleasant Hill Presbyterian Church in Atkins. She enjoyed time with family, especially at the cabin in Vinton named “End of the Trail”. She was greatly involved with the Republican Party in Benton County, as well as volunteering to work at polling locations. She also volunteered for Meals on Wheels. Above all she loved her family and special friends dearly, and she will be greatly missed.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Lila’s honor.

Arlene A. Forrest, 86, of 2115 First Ave SE, died Friday, May 1, 2009, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy following a stroke. Services will be held at 10:30 AM Monday in Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Burial in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 5 PM on Sunday at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home, and at the chapel after 10 AM on Monday.
Survivors include her husband of 58 years James, three daughters Susan Forrest of Prairie Village, Kansas, Julie (Dr. Kurt) Muehlebach of Kansas City, Missouri, and Dianne (Dr. Paul) Ruggle of Newton, Iowa, a sister Evelyn Greenwood of Vinton, two brothers Donald (Helen) Burmeister of Vinton, and Keith (Betty) Burmeister of Dysart, and five grandchildren, Adam and Brian Ruggle, and Forrest, Mary Claire, and Lily Muehlebach. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother in law Ray Greenwood.
Arlene was born April 21, 1923 in Benton County to Henry and Minnie Selk Burmeister. She married
James B. Forrest Jr. on March 19, 1951 in New Hampton, Iowa. She had been employed as an office manager for Jim Forrest Insurance Company, and as an Inspector at Collins Radio. She was a member of the ladies golf league of Cedar Rapids. Besides golf, she was a Campfire Girls Leader. She enjoyed spending time in Florida, the outdoors, and spending time with her family.

Leona Russell Fawley

Leona Russell Fawley, 94, of 2115 First Ave SE, a longtime resident of Cedar Rapids, died at home Thursday, May 14, 2009, following a long illness. Services at 1 PM Monday in Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. Rev. Lloyd Brockmeyer of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church will officiate. Burial in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation from 4 to 6 PM on Sunday at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.
Survivors include a son Russell Wilkins and wife Elizabeth, two grandsons, Troy Wilkins and fiancé Arica Harger, and Rodney Wilkins, and two great-grandsons Tucker and Wyatt Wilkins all of Cedar Rapids, a niece Rita Russell King of Denver, Colorado, a great-nephew Logan King of Shanghai, China, and great-niece Laura King of Boston, Massachusetts. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and two brothers Waldo and Warner Russell.
Leona was born October 5, 1914 in Winfield, Iowa to Lawrence and Ada Bosworth Russell. She married
Clifford Wilkins, they later divorced. She married
Charles Fawley on July 15, 1965 and he preceded her in death on February 27, 1982.
Leona was a 1936 University of Iowa graduate. She taught speech and dramatics for many years in the Cedar Rapids Middle School system. She was very proud of her students and their performances. She often told stories about the plays which she directed. She lived her life as “The Show Must Go On”.
Leona was a member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, a past matron and 50 year member of Cedar Chapter 184 Order of Eastern Star and Daughters of the Nile, and a past worthy high priestess of Gethsemane White Shrine. Also a member of the Daughter’s of the American Revolution, National Retired Teachers, Cedar Rapids Retired Teachers, a member of Alpha Xi Delta National Sorority, and a 50 year member of the Order of the Rose. She loved flower gardening and had an amazing “green thumb”.
