James Harrison Gunderson, 80, a resident of the Woodlands at Meth-Wick Community died there Tuesday, December 17, 2002, following a lingering illness. Services at 10 AM Saturday in St. Andrew Lutheran Church. Pastor T. Edwards Breed and Vicar Jenn Moland-Kovash will officiate. Burial in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Funeral Home from 5 to 8 PM on Friday and at the church after 9:30 AM on Saturday.
Survivors include his first wife Irma Gunderson, and their five children, Bryan Gunderson and wife Barb of Tustin, Ca., Kermit Gunderson and wife Vickie of Onalaska, Wi., Mark Gunderson and wife Janet of Flagstaff, Az., Gwen Smith and husband Charlie of Norway, Ia., and Deanna Fox and husband Steve Sickels of Cedar Rapids, Ia., along with many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is also survived by two step-sons, Steve Kramer and wife Kristie of Tucson, Az., Ron Kramer and wife Lori of Tulsa, Ok., a step-daughter, Diane Kramer of Cedar Rapids, Ia., his brother and sister-in-law Ronald and Beverly Gunderson of Leesburg, Fl., and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his second wife Dorothy, and by his older brother and sister-in-law Lyle and Bess Gunderson.
Jim was born May 22, 1922 in Clermont, Iowa, the son of Harry and Jelena Olson Gunderson.
He married Dorothy Kramer on June 6, 1992 in Nashua, Iowa. She died September 24, 2001.
He farmed with his parents and later, on his own farm, but soon turned to carpentry owning Gunderson Construction Company for many years.
He was a member of St. Andrew Lutheran Church.
A memorial fund has been established.

W. Russell Garner
Born in Pine Bluff, Arkansas on April 18, 1933
Departed on December 19, 2002. Resided in Marion, IA.

W. Russell Garner, 69, of 1530 44th St., Marion, died Thursday, December 19, 2002, in St. Luke's Hospital from complications of cancer. Memorial services at 2 PM Sunday, December 29, 2002, at Peoples Church Unitarian Universalist, Cedar Rapids, by Dr. Marion Carson and Reverend Linda Hansen. Arrangements by Cedar Memorial Funeral Home.
Survivors include his children, Jean C. and husband Juan Carlos Siles Godar and their children Thomas, Alexandra, and Jonathen of Monte Verde, Costa Rica, Lelia R. Garner and husband Steve Prouty and their children Celia and Benjamin, of Robins, Andrew R. Garner and wife Joan and their children Austin, Rebecca, and James of Mechanicsville, his sister Shirley Schatzley of Paragould, Arkansas, and two nephews Les Schatzley of Neosho, Missouri, and Bill Schatzley of Paragould, Arkansas. He was preceded in death by his father, his mother, and by his nephew Bobby Schatzley of Los Angeles, California.
Russell was born April 18, 1933 in Pine Bluff, Arkansas the son of Jean R. and Bernice Ott Garner. After graduating from high school he attended the University of Missouri at Columbia majoring in Literature and minoring in Music. He enlisted in the US Navy in 1953. He then attended The Institute of Technology in Kansas City and worked for Philco in San Jose, California. Russell and family moved to Cedar Rapids in 1968 where he was employed by Rockwell-Collins. At the time of his death, Russell was retired and self-employed as a technical publications consultant. Russell has a life-long interest in music, sailing, camping, ham radio call letters WA0UIG, electronics, and computers. Russell was active in the Eastern branch of the Iowa Ethical Union. His special friend Dr. Marion Carson will be Leader at his memorial service.
Russ's family would like to extend a special thank you to Emily Carson and Mike Ryan for their invaluable assistance during their father's illness and to the doctors, nurses, and staff at St. Luke's Hospital.
A memorial fund has been established.

Lydia M. Glick
Born in Center Township, Cedar County, Iowa on February 20, 1921
Departed on March 1, 2003. Resided in Cedar Rapids, IA.

Lydia M. Glick, 82, of 1457 40th Street NE, died Saturday, March 1, 2003, in St. Luke's Hospital from injuries received in a fall. Services at 10 AM Wednesday in Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. Rev. Rosemary Rohde of Kenwood Park United Methodist Church will officiate. Burial in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Funeral Home from 5 to 8 PM on Tuesday and at the chapel after 9:30 AM on Wednesday.
Survivors include her husband C. Dale, a daughter Barbara Ann Underwood and husband Mark, and a son Robert Dean Glick and wife Chris all of Cedar Rapids, a sister Pearl Barnhart of Oxford Junction, Iowa, and five grandchildren, Jay and Justin Andersen of Cedar Rapids, Amy Holt of Kennewick, Washington, Robert Glick of Evansdale, and Bradley Glick of Marion, and 7 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, and a granddaughter.
Lydia was born February 21, 1921 in Center Township, Cedar County, Iowa to Lewis A. and Margaret Ida Caudill Wright. She married C. Dale Glick on January 26, 1943 in Olin, Iowa. She graduated from Olin Consolidated High School in June 1939. She then attended Cedar Rapids Business College and graduated on January 23, 1942. She worked in the payroll department at Link Belt Speeder during WW II. She was a devoted wife and mother but also worked in the accounting department at the Roosevelt Hotel until her husband retired. She was a member of Kenwood Park United Methodist Church, a past grand officer of Cedar Chapter Order of Eastern Star, and a member of Amber Grotto.
Lydia was an excellent cook, loving homemaker and friend of everyone especially in her church and in the Order of Eastern Star. She loved to travel with her husband in their motor home throughout much of North America seeing the people and sights of the area.
Memorial contributions may be made to A.L.S., Kenwood Park United Methodist Church, or to the charity of your choice.

J. Marvin Garner
Born in Armstrong, MO. on August 5, 1922
Departed on August 11, 2003. Resided in Hiawatha, IA.

J. Marvin Garner, 81, 1810 Emmy Lane, Hiawatha, died Monday at the Hiawatha Care Center following a long illness. There will be no local services and graveside services will be conducted at the Mendon Cemetery, Mendon, Missouri at a later date. Cedar Memorial Funeral Home is in charge of local arrangements.

Mr. Garner is survived by his wife of 58 years, Evelyn M. Garner, 3 daughters, Terrill Lynn Mark Kochenderfer of Mesa, Arizona, Gail David Stork of Robins, Iowa and Leesa Mike Augustine of Rose Hill, Iowa and one son, Todd Carrie Garner of Des Moines, Iowa; 7 grandchildren, Nick Stephanie Kochenderfer, Kate Bryan Kochenderfer Bruning, Brad Jennifer Stork, Kelly Stork, Caitlin Augustine and Hannah Augustine and Grayson Garner and one great grandson, Tristan James Kochenderfer.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Jon Mark.

Mr. Garner was born August 5, 1922 in Armstrong, Missouri to Jefferson Marvin and Lucy Jane Littrell Garner. He grew up in Mendon, Missouri and began college at the University of Missouri until he joined the Army Air Corp in 1942. He served his tenure in the service stateside and returned to the University of Missouri where he graduated in 1946 with degrees in Agriculture and Journalism. Marvin worked all of the life in the Agriculture field. He started at Wilson & Company in Chicago, Illinois, was a county agent in Linn County, Missouri, and was a hog buyer for the stockyards in St. Joseph, Missouri where he also was their farm announcer for KFEQ. In 1958, he became the executive secretary of the Chester White purebred swine association and in 1969 became Executive Vice President of the National Pork Producers Council. The slogan, "Pork-the other White Meat" was born during his time with the NPPC. In 1979, he returned to St. Joseph in a marketing role for Biozyme Inc. and completed his career as a realtor.

He was a longtime member of the Valley of St. Joseph Masonic Lodge, the Moila Shrine Temple and Kiwanis Club, all located in St. Joseph, Missouri.

Marvin will be remembered for his many friends throughout the United States. He could walk into almost any town in the Midwest and know someone. He was a loving husband and father and will always be remembered for his dedication to those principles he believed in.

Donations may be sent to the American Diabetes Association, the Shriner's Crippled Children's Hospitals or the charity of choice.

Elsie L. Green
Born in Hastings, Minnesota on April 2, 1925
Departed on December 15, 2003. Resided in Williamsburg, IA.

Elsie L. Green 78, formerly of Cedar Rapids and Williamsburg, died Monday, December 15, 2003, in the Williamsburg Care Center following a long illness. Services at 10:30 AM Saturday in Cedar Memorial Funeral Home. Rev. T. Edwards Breed of St. Andrew Lutheran Church will officiate. Entombment in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Funeral Home from 5 to 7 PM on Friday and after 10 AM on Saturday.
Survivors include three daughters Ruth Johnson and husband Donald of Eagen, Minnesota, Katy Dietze and husband Rick of Victor, Iowa, and Barb Mraz and husband Steve of Woodstock, Georgia, a sister Mary Schroeder and husband Marvin of Venice, Florida, nine grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a sister Ruth Pollock, a brother David DeSmet, and a great grandson Cole Robertson.
Elsie was born April 2, 1925 in Hastings, Minnesota to Julian and Helen Bloomstrand DeSmet. She married Jule R. Green on February 14, 1946 in St. Clair Shores, Michigan. He died April 10, 1995. Elsie was a Division Manager for Killians for several years. She also had a tailoring business where she did tailoring for the Cedar Rapids Police and Fire Departments. She was a former member of St. Andrew Lutheran Church. She loved to garden and spend time with her family.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.

D. Dale Gosch
Born in Sibley, Iowa on March 25, 1930
Departed on May 16, 2004. Resided in Cedar Rapids, IA.

D. Dale Gosch, 74, of 2030 - 1st Avenue NE, died at St. Luke's Hospital Sunday, May 16, 2004 following a short illness. A visitation will be held at Cedar Memorial Funeral Home from 3 to 7 p.m. Thursday followed by a memorial service by the Rev. Linda Bibb of Salem United Methodist Church. His remains were cremated.

Survivors include two sons, Douglas of Davenport, and David Jane of Cedar Rapids; and seven grandchildren, Colleen, Jessica, Andrew, Nicholas, Bryan, Benjamin, and Logan. He was preceded in death by his wife Carol, and a brother, Donald.

Dale was born March 25, 1930 in Sibley, Iowa to Florence and Albert Gosch. He married Carol Nebiker on July 9, 1950 in Cedar Rapids. He graduated from Roosevelt High School and served in the Korean Conflict.

Dale spent the majority of his sales career as a Realtor in Cedar Rapids. For about the last 20 years, Dale worked for Skogman Realty, retiring in this past spring. He served as President of the Cedar Rapids Board of Realtors and was a member of the Friday Morning Optimist Club. He was a member of Salem United Methodist Church.

Dale enjoyed his work and his co-workers. He was defined by his integrity and adherence to professional ethics.

Most of all, he loved his family. His wife, Carol, who died in February of 2001, was the love of his life. The two supported each other through thick and thin. Now they are together again. Dale and Carol loved the Rocky Mountains where the family frequently vacationed.

He attended nearly all of his sons' athletic events and he cherished his grandchildren. Dale was a loyal fan of the Chicago Cubs and Iowa Hawkeyes. His smile and eternal optimism will be missed. His family and friends loved him dearly.

A memorial fund has been established.
