JESUP -- Doris Bunger, 91, of Richland Center, Wis., formerly of Jesup, died Saturday, Dec. 2, 2000, at Pine Valley Health Care and Rehab Center, Richland Center, of natural causes.
She was born Aug. 17, 1909, in Jesup, daughter of Harry and Cora Hoffman Gates.
She had been employed as a bookkeeper at Farmers State Bank of Jesup until her retirement.
Survived by: several cousins.
Preceded in death by: a sister, Marian A. Gates.
Services: 11 a.m. Tuesday at Parker Funeral chapel, with burial in Cedar Crest Cemetery, both in Jesup. Friends may call for an hour before services Tuesday at the funeral home.
EVANSDALE -- Robert P. Lang, 86, of 305 East End Ave., died Saturday, Dec. 2, 2000, at Cedar Valley Hospice Home, Waterloo, following complications of cancer.
He was born Jan. 11, 1914, in Dubuque, son of Peter and Frieda Lang. He married Esther Peterson, and they later divorced. He then married Georgianna Edgar in 1966, in Waterloo.
Mr. Lang was an engineer for Illinois Central Railroad until his retirement in 1975.
Survived by: his wife; three sons, Mark of Evansdale and Robert and Gary, both of Reno, Nev.; three stepsons, George, Bruce and Ronald Chihak, all of Waterloo; three stepdaughters, Rebecca Cummings of Evansdale and Monica Anderson and Marcia Wright, both of Waterloo; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and a sister, Marge Quade of Mobile, Ala.
Preceded in death by: a brother; and two sisters.
Services: 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Garden View Chapel, with burial in Garden of Memories Cemetery. Friends may call from 11 a.m. until service time Tuesday at the funeral home.
Memorials: may be directed to Cedar Valley Hospice or the Alzheimer's Association.
Gardner D. Phelps, M.D., 89, of 3720 Village Place, died Saturday, November 25, 2000, at home.
He was born December 22, 1910, in Waterloo, Iowa, son of Dexter B. and Lulu Gardner Phelps. He married Virginia Kuning on June 16, 1936, in Cedar Rapids.
He graduated from West High School and received his B.S. Degree from the University of Iowa. He received his M.D. Degree at the College of Medicine at the University of Iowa in 1936.
He was a Lieutenant Colonel in the United States Army Medical Corps from 1941 to 1946 and was an instructor in the Department of Ophthalmology at the College of Medicine, University of Michigan.
His foreign Medical Mission tours include; Presbyterian Hospital, Anapolis, Brazil, in 1965, Foreign Ophthalmological Care from the United States in Haiti from 1966 to 1976, Laymen's Overseas Service at Methodist Medical Clinic in Bolivia in 1967, Care Medico in Santa Rose de Copan, Honduras, in 1968, AMDOC at Brethren Hospital in Castaner, Puerto Rico, and with the Maryknoll Mission Hospitals in Guatemala in 1970.
He was a Fellow of the Academy of Ophthalmology, Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, Fellow of the International College of Surgeons, a member of the Pan American Association of Ophthalmology and the American Medical Association. He was President of the Black Hawk County Medical Society and on staff of four hospitals in Black Hawk County.
Survivors include: his wife; three sons, Dr. Dale G. Phelps of Waterloo, Dr. Laurence M. Phelps of Baraboo, Wisconsin, and Dr. Gary K. Phelps of Waterloo; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by: a son, Dr. Charles Phelps in 1985.
Memorial services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 16, 2000, at Trinity Episcopal Parish. Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway is in charge of arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Trinity Episcopal Parish or Friendship Village Auxiliary.
Joanne Weber Suhr Colantuono, 49, of Englewood, Fla., formerly of Waterloo, passed away Nov. 30, 2000, at her home.
She is survived by her husband, William; and six children, William and Charlotte Suhr of Richmond, Va., Laurie Suhr and Kenny Miller of Port Charlotte, Fla., and Crystal, Joshua, Andrew and Theresa Colantuono, all of Englewood. She is also survived by her parents, Anthony and LaDean Weber of Gilbertville; a brother, Steven of Atlanta, Ga.; two sisters, Jeanne and Bernard Schaefer of Raymond and Terri Kohl and Dave Sabus of Waterloo; and four grandchildren, Taylor, Alex, Bailly and Billy Suhr. Also survived by a special aunt, Mary Ellen Fitzgerald.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, LaVern Suhr.
Services will be held Dec. 9, 2000, in Englewood.
WATERLOO -- Walter Wilson Sr., 74, formerly of 436 Edwards St., died Thursday, April 27, 2001, at Parkview Gardens Nursing and Rehab Center of natural causes.
He was born Oct. 6, 1926, in Coffeyville, Miss., son of Betty Huggins Wilson. He married Rebecca Barrett on Aug. 1, 1953, in Lambert, Miss.
Mr. Wilson was employed by John Deere from 1966 to 1968, and FMC in Cedar Rapids from 1969 to 1979. From 1979 until 1995 he was associated with several Waterloo funeral homes, including Chapel of Memories, Parrott and Wood, Morning Star and most recently as assistant to the director at Greer Funeral Home Inc., until becoming disabled. He served with the U.S. Navy during World War II.
Survived by: his wife; two sons, Walter Wilson Jr. of Cedar Rapids and Cleenex Martin of Omaha; six daughters, Kattie Malone, Betty Gilmore, E. Marie Stigler, Earlene Chamberlain and Inell Peggs, all of Waterloo, and Geneva Spivial of Rockford, Ill.; and 48 grandchildren, 100 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
Preceded in death by: two sons; a stepdaughter, Nora Robinson; a stepgranddaughter; three brothers, James Jackson, Willie Wilson Sr. and Rufus Wilson; and two sisters, Ethel Wilson and Marie Pools.
Services: were 11 a.m. today at New Hope Missionary Baptist Church, with burial in Garden of Memories. Military rites were conducted by American Legion Post 138 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1623. Greer Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

WATERLOO -- Ruth K. Nellis, 94, of Fort Dodge, formerly of Waterloo, died Wednesday, May 2, 2001, at Trinity Regional Hospital, Fort Dodge, of natural causes.
She was born Nov. 29, 1906, in Fenton, daughter of Carl and Amanda Weisbrod Kern. She married Dean S. Nellis on June 29, 1927, in Nashua.
Survived by: three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; and a sister, Helen Yager of Fenton.
Preceded in death by: three brothers; and a daughter, Rosemary Grieger.
Memorial services: 10 a.m. Saturday at Friendship Haven West Building Third Floor Chapel, Fort Dodge, with burial at 3 p.m. Saturday in Garden of Memories, Waterloo. Bruce's Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Fort Dodge, is in charge of arrangements.

WATERLOO -- Howard "Hod" Aloysius Schilling, 70, of Tipton, formerly of Waterloo, died Wednesday, May 2, 2001, at home after a brief illness.
He was born Sept. 1, 1930, in Columbus, Neb., son of Albert and Rose Merz Schilling. He married Margaret "Peg" Ann Uhde on July 16, 1957, in Phoenix. She preceded him in death.
Mr. Schilling owned Briner Inn Restaurant in Tipton and Bennett. He was a graduate of Palmer School of Chiropractic. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War.
Survived by: three daughters, Theresa Johnson and Chris Glenn, both of Iowa City, and Robin Scott of Tipton; two sons, Mark Schilling of Otley and Barry Duncan of Chicago; nine grandchildren; a sister, Rosemary Gilbert of Fort Meyers Beach, Fla.; and two brothers, Richard of Cedar Falls and Francis of Rock Island, Ill.
Preceded in death by: a sister, Pauline Beck.
Services: 11 a.m. Saturday at Fry Funeral Home, Tipton, with burial in Tipton Masonic Cemetery. Graveside military rites will be conducted by Tipton Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2537. There will be no visitation.

WATERLOO -- Florence E. Walker, 88, of Friendship Village, died Thursday, May 3, 2001, at Covenant Medical Center of pneumonia.
She was born Jan. 10, 1913, in Aredale, daughter of Benjamin and Lela Folbrecht Dooley. She married C. Robert Walker on June 29, 1935, in Mason City. He died Oct. 11, 1993.
Mrs. Walker graduated from Iowa State Teacher's College in 1931 and before her marriage taught rural school in Butler County. Later, she and her husband owned and operated Shepherd Lumber Co. until retiring.
Survived by: a son, Alan R. of Waterloo; a daughter, Barbara J. Eicher of Waterloo; seven grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; a brother, Donald Dooley of Los Gatos, Calif.; and a sister, Kathryn Patterson of Yorba Linda, Calif.
Preceded in death by: a brother, Dalton Dooley.
Services: 10 a.m. Monday at Locke Funeral Home, with burial in the Garden of Memories Cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
