Judith Anne Grove

Judith Anne Grove died at her home wrapped in the love of her husband on May 20, 2007 after a long struggle with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and a longer struggle with severe depression. Though pulmonary disease took her life, depression robbed her of the joy of living. Memorial Services: 11:00 A.M. Friday at Christ Episcopal Church. Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Funeral home on Thursday from 5PM to 8PM. The Rev. Barbara Schlacter will officiate.

Survivors include her husband Doug Anderson of Cedar Rapids; her brother William Vicky of Woodbury, Minnesota; her sisters, Margaret of Cedar Rapids and Janet of West Des Moines; and her sister-in-law, Anna Dains Jeff of Lauderdale, Minnesota. She will be also missed by her nieces Christy Meyer Scott of Cedar Rapids, Elizabeth Whitehill of Fort Pierce, Florida and Olivia Dains of Lauderdale, Minnesota; and her nephews, Ed Deanna Kramer of Woodbury, Minnesota and Colin Dains of Lauderdale, Minnesota.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Susan Bauer, and her parents.

Judy was born on May 17, 1951 in Cedar Rapids to Merrill and LaVonne Wilson Grove. She spent most of her early years in Cedar Rapids and Marion where she graduated from Linn-Mar High School in 1969. In 1973 she received her B.A. in Political Science and Urban Studies from Minnesota State University, Mankato, where she was active in student government. It was in Mankato that Judy met Doug Anderson, who became her husband in Minneapolis on June 22, 1974. In 1978 Judy entered the University of Iowa College of Law. After receiving her J.D. degree in 1980, she practiced law in Marion and Cedar Rapids for 15 years, working primarily in family law.

Judy was a founding member of the Linn County Women Attorneys and also belonged to the Linn County and Iowa State Bar Associations, NOW, the Professional Women's Network, the American Sewing Guild, and Christ Episcopal Church. A life-long Democrat, Judy worked on numerous political campaigns.

The great joys of her life were spending time with family and friends and expressing her creativity through her sewing and craft work. Judy's favorite place was Door County, WI where she and Doug spent many wonderful vacations.

Judy Grove will be remembered as a dedicated attorney and a loving and generous wife, daughter, sibling, aunt and friend.

Judy and Doug are extremely grateful for the kind and competent care she received from Dr. J. David Cowden and his staff, from Mercy Hospital, from the Hospice of Mercy, and from the Reverend Doctors Bill Puglise and Barbara Schlacter of Christ Episcopal Church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials gifts may be made to the Hospice of Mercy in Cedar Rapids.

Hugh Eldon Griffin
Born in Dade County, South Greenfield, Missouri on September 24, 1918

Hugh Eldon Griffin Sr., 88, of 4000 33rd Ave SW, died Wednesday, May 16, 2007, in his home following a short illness. Services at 10 AM Monday in Central Church of Christ with Dr. Terry Seufferlein officiating. Entombment with military honors in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Funeral Home from 2 to 6 PM on Sunday and at the church after 9:30 AM on Monday.
Surviving to honor his memory is a son Hugh Griffin Jr. and wife Patricia of Indianola, a daughter Judith Dlouhy and husband Eugene of Cedar Rapids, four grandchildren Melody Henderson and husband Robert, Marc Dlouhy and wife Lynn, Matthew Dlouhy and wife Jodi, and Monica Tjaden and husband Kevin, and 7 great grandchildren Randi, Jordan, Kyle, Logan, Blakeley, Cameron, and Campbell. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, one brother and three sisters.
Hugh was born in Dade County, South Greenfield, Missouri on September 24, 1918 to Hugh and Cora H. Smith Griffin. He grew up and went to school in Orient, Iowa where he graduated from High School in 1937. He married June R. Shoenhair on September 25, 1938 in Creston, Iowa. She died February 6, 2003. He enlisted in the US Navy in 1945 and served during WW II. He worked in management for J. C. Penney Company for 36 years. After retiring he worked for Kingston Hill, and Enterprise Car Rental. He was a member of Central Church of Christ for over 40 years. He enjoyed collecting carnival glass and refinishing furniture. He also enjoyed writing poetry and spending time with his family and friends. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Military honors provide by Hanford American Legion Post No 5.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Mercy or to Central Church of Christ.

Charles R. Chuck Gould
Born in Iowa City, Iowa on February 8, 1926
Departed on October 19, 2006. Resided in Marion, IA.

Charles R. "Chuck" Gould, 80, of 400 Lindale Dr. Lot 65, Marion, died Thursday, October 19, 2006, at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids from complications of Parkinson's disease. Services with military honors at 2 PM Tuesday in Northbrook Baptist Church with Rev. Eric Schumacher and Rev. David Miller officiating. Burial in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Funeral Home from 5 to 8 PM on Monday and at the church after 1:30 PM on Tuesday.
Survivors include his wife of 40 years Ida, daughter Donella Gould of Des Moines, Iowa, son Wendell Gould and wife Cindy of Cedar Rapids, two step sons Darrell Washburn and wife Diane of Riverside, Iowa, and Randall Washburn of Challis, Idaho, four sisters Yvonne Dahlen, and Carol Chagnon and husband Paul all of Havre, Montana, Irene Prince and husband Ralph of Great Falls, Montana, and Mary Gould of St. George California, three brothers Benton Gould and wife Leta of Chinook, Montana, Roland Gould and wife Peggy of Havre, Montana, and Floyd Gould and wife Doris of Great Falls, Montana, seven grandchildren, and thirteen great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Charles was born February 8, 1926 in Iowa City, Iowa. He served in the US Navy during WW II. Before teaching 5th and 6th grades in American Falls, Idaho where he met the love of his life Ida. They were married February 5, 1966, and shared 40 happy and loving years.
Charles was a dedicated member of Northbrook Baptist Church. He loved spending time with his family. He enjoyed embroidery, gardening, and volunteered his talent of piano to Methwick Retirement Community, and the House of Prayer.
Military honors by Hanford American Legion Post No 5.
Instead of flowers a memorial fund has been established.

Marjorie I. Glass
Born in Beach City, Ohio on February 18, 1916
Departed on June 22, 2006. Resided in Cedar Rapids, IA.

Service: Saturday, June 24, 2006
Marjorie I. Glass, 90, of 6825 Crow Wing Dr. N.E., died Thursday at Manor Care Health Center following a short illness. Memorial services: 11 a.m. Saturday at Lovely Lane United Methodist Church by Rev. Brian Milford officiating. Inurnment: Beach City, Ohio. A luncheon will be served at the church following the service.

Surviving is a daughter, Patricia Sorsby and husband William of Cedar Rapids and 2 granddaughters, Kimberly and Hannah.

She was preceded in death by her husband John in 1993 and a sister, Esther Jane Reinhart.

Marjorie was born February 18, 1916 in Beach City, Ohio to Harry and Emma Muskopff Ward, and was married to John Glass on May 27, 1944 in Canton, Ohio. She and her husband had owned the Glass Music Company in Coshocton, Ohio for many years. She was an active member of her community in Ohio and a member of the Presbyterian Church in Coshocton, Ohio and the Lovely Lane United Methodist Church in Cedar Rapids.

In lieu of flowers, friends may, if they wish, make contributions to the Milestones Adult Day Health Center, 1725 O. Ave. N.W. Cedar Rapids, Iowa 52405.

Peter Guerra
Born on March 31, 1970

Peter "Pete" James Guerra, 36, of Cedar Rapids died Friday, June 9, 2006 following a ruptured aorta. Services: 3:00 P.M. Tuesday at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call on Monday from 4PM to 8PM at Cedar Memorial Funeral Home. The Rev. Brent Watkins of the River of Life Church will officiate.
Survivors include his mother, Sue and husband James Buck Hill of Cedar Rapids; his father, James A. Guerra Joyce of Bellville, IL; two sons, Cameron and Matthew both of Cedar Rapids; a daughter, Taylor of Cedar Rapids; his true love and fiance' Kelly Erickson and her daughters, Vanessa and Sarena all of Mt. Vernon; a brother, Nicholas Susan Guerra of Oswego, IL; his grandparents, Pauline McDaniel and Adel Behlman both of St. Louis, MO; three step-brothers, Larry Dixie Hill of MO, Jim Ozzie Hill of NC and Randy Hill of Marion; a step sister, Julie Wermager Steve of Robins; several aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces, great nephews, and great nieces.
He was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Robert McDaniel and Angelo Guerra.
Pete was born March 31, 1970 in St. Louis, MO. He was Division Manager with Regency Commercial Services. Pete was a member of the Cedar Rapids Chamber of Commerce, the Rotary Club, and the Cedar Rapids Jaycees. He loved classic cars, especially cameros, the St. Louis Rams, landscaping, jogging and skiing. He was very family oriented and loved his childrens activities. Pete loved life to its fullest every day. He made people laugh, loved chocolate and cookies. He will be greatly missed by everybody who knew and loved him.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established for his childrens education.

Richard Alan Gerhardstein
Born in Cleveland, OH on April 30, 1964
Departed on June 8, 2006. Resided in Marion, IA.

Richard Alan Gerhardstein, 42, 352 3rd Ave, Marion died at his home on Thursday, June 8, 2006. Memorial Services: 11:00 A.M. Saturday June 24, 2006 at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. The Rev. Mark Forstrom of New Covenant Bible Church will officiate.
Survivors include two daughters, Rebecca Susan Gerhardstein of Cedar Rapids and Mary Elizabeth Gerhardstein of Marion; his father, Thomas Gerhardstein and wife Jan of Wickliffe, OH; and his mother, Iris Beasley and husband Henry of Panama City, FL; two sisters, Cindy Medves of Wickliffe, OH and Terry Collins of Rock Hill, SC; three brothers, Tim Gerhardstein of Paducah, KY, Randy Gerhardstein of Cleveland, OH, and Hank Beasley of Philadelphia, PA; and many special friends, especially Tracy Miller of Marion and Jim and Janet Toom of Cedar Rapids.
He was preceded in death by a brother Tom Gerhardstein and a sister, Shelby Beasley.
Richard was born April 30, 1964 in Cleveland, OH. He was a security specialist at AEGON, U.S.A. for 7 years. Richard enjoyed wood working, working on computers, antiques, and being with his friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.

Betty M. Gralund
Born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa on May 8, 1921
Departed on April 16, 2006. Resided in Cedar Rapids, IA.

Betty M. Grady Gralund, 84, of Cedar Rapids entered into rest April 16, 2006 at Mercy Medical Center following a brief illness. Services 3 PM Wednesday at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. Rev. Kevin Land of Edgewood Baptist Church will officiate. Friends may call from 5 to 7 PM Tuesday at Cedar Memorial Funeral Home. Inurnment: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.

Survivors include her loving husband of 64 years Orton W. Gralund, beloved sons William E. Kathy Gralund of Cedar Rapids, and James O. Jolene Gralund of Denver; beloved daughters Barbara Larry James Stanley, and Sandra Daryl Sanborn both of Cedar Rapids. Also surviving are her sister Margaret Edward Kvarda of Cedar Rapids, as well as 11 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and one great great grandchild.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers Bill and Lawrence Grady; sisters Shirley English, Deloris Bergen and Bernadine Burgus; son-in-law Mel Stanley; and great-grandson Jason Shelton.

Betty M. Grady Gralund was born May 8, 1921 in Cedar Rapids the beloved daughter of William and Lucille Burk Grady. Betty married Orton W. Gralund on February 15, 1942 in Kahoka, MO. She was employed at Davis Dairy Maid for 20 years. She enjoyed traveling to Florida with her husband, family get-togethers, getting together with her sisters every Saturday, as well as playing cards and bingo.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be directed to Hospice of Mercy in memory of Betty.
