Donald B. Guinnane, 82, of Cedar Rapids died Thursday, September 18, 2008 at Providence Place in Minneapolis, Minnesota following a lengthy illness. Funeral Mass: 10:30 A.M. Tuesday at All Saint's Catholic Church by The Rev. David O'Connor. Burial: Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home on Monday from 3PM to 7PM, with a Vigil Service at 4:00 PM.
Survivors include two sons, Patrick A. Guinnane Frances of Philadelphia, PA and Timothy W. Guinnane of New Haven, CT; three daughters, Mary Beth McCaughey Bill of Sugar Land, TX, Jane E. Guinnane of St. Paul, MN and Eileen Holzemer Tom of Lakeville, MN; two sisters, Maxine Woodall Jim of Fairview, IL and Lorraine Evans Edwin of Winchester, IL; and five grandchildren, Michael, Ian, Katie, Dan and Conrad.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter Kathleen; and a sister, Mary Ellen.
Donald was born March 30, 1926 in Scott County, Illinois, the son of Frank A. and Gladys Hanback Guinnane. He married
Dorothy M. Hochstetter on May 8, 1954 in Chicago, Illinois. Donald was an accountant for Cherry-Burrell from 1948 to 1970 and was the Director of Finance for the Cedar Rapids Community School District from 1970 to 1989. He was a member of All Saint's Catholic Church, where he did volunteer work, Habitat for Humanity and the Indian Creek Nature Center. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict. Donald enjoyed the outdoors, gardening and fishing.

Dorothy Alice Stoflet Gouldin 96, entered into the presence of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Sunday, October 26, 2008. Services will be held at 1:30 PM Sunday, November 2, 2008, at River of Life Ministries by Francis Frangipane and Steve Irwin. Interment at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 PM Saturday, November 1, 2008, at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.
Dorothy was born December 12, 1911 to David and Ada Maude Stoflet. She had one older sister, Ada Margaret. Survivors include Sybil and Roger Hunziker of Lake City, Florida, Dr. John and Cheryl Gouldin of Storm Lake, Iowa, Becky and Dick Goltermann of Lockport, Illinois, eight grandchildren, and ten great grandchildren, Dr. Alan and Flo Brinkmann and family, other relatives, and countless friends.
On June 14, 1981, Dorothy married
Dr. Robert Gouldin whose wife, Ilah, had died. She was blessed by their three children, Sybil, John, and Becky, and their children and grandchildren. Dorothy was widowed in 1994.
Dorothy received a BA degree from Coe College in 1933 and an M.S. degree from Iowa State University in 1948. She taught in several Iowa High Schools and was later a professor of Textiles and clothing design at the University of New Mexico, University of West Virginia, Fieldston School, Hunter College, Western Kentucky University, the University of Alberta, and South Dakota State University. Upon her retirement she was awarded emeritus status.
During her long and vibrant life, Dorothy’s activities included American Home Economics Association, John Dewey Society, Kappa Delta, P.E.O., Daughters of the American Revolution, Daughters of American Colonists, Young Women’s Christian Association, Business and Professional Women’s Club, National Home Fashions League, Who’s Who in American Education, Honorary member of Phi Upsilon Omicron, Outstanding Educator of America, AGLOW, His Hands, Midwest Prayer Center, and other missionary endeavors. Dorothy was active in various ministries at River of Life.
Dorothy was a fashionable lady, loyal friend, powerful prayer warrior, full of love, forgiveness, and faith.
In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established.

Max Gradwell, 86, of 4201 Pineview Dr. NE, died Sunday, October 26, 2008, in his home following a long illness. Graveside services with military rites will be held at 11 AM Saturday, November 15, 2008, in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family beginning at 10 AM on Saturday, November 15, 2008. Arrangements by Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years Mary, their children, Michael (Susan) Gradwell, of Mt. Vernon, Mary E. Gradwell of Cedar Rapids, Margaret (Bob) Laas of Las Vegas, Nevada, Marcia (Tim) Moran Cedar Rapids, Martha (Steve) Kruger of Hendersonville, Tennessee, and Milton (Dena) Gradwell of Cedar Rapids, grandchildren Jennifer Van Grimberg, Jeremy Mains, Devin (Paulette) Gradwell, Michelle (Rob) Wiebbecke, and Amanda Gradwell, great grandchildren, Daron James, Ayanna Wiebbecke, and Eden Wiebbecke, and several dear nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, two sisters, and one nephew.
Max was born October 26, 1922 in Exline, Iowa to Charles and Helen Benefiel Gradwell. He graduated from Exline High School in 1940. Served in the US Marine Corps from 1943 – 1946 (WW II) aboard USS Admiral Simms. Graduated from Upper Iowa University with the GI Bill assistance. Married Mary I. Whisler on August 10, 1947 in Centerville, Iowa, and made their home in Mason City.
Max taught school from 1950 – 1982 beginning his career in Albion, and then at Gilman, Parkersburg, Marengo, Center Point, Linn-Mar, Lisbon, and retiring from Northeast Community.
Max was a lifetime member of the Lisbon American Legion Cyclops Post No 109.
He enjoyed visiting with neighbors, sports on TV, cooking, and gardening.

Erva T. Gongwer, 87, formerly of Cedar Rapids, died Monday November 24, 2008 in the Carlisle Care Center, Carlisle, following a long illness. Services: 11:00 a.m. Saturday at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories by the Rev. Beth Straw. Friends may call on Cedar Memorial Westside Chapel on Friday from 4-8 p.m. and after 10:00 a.m. at the chapel on Saturday. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Survivors include her children, Gerry J. Haas (Kenneth) of Denver, James A. Gongwer (Carol) of Marion, Ray W. Gongwer (Jennifer) of Cedar Rapids, Roy H. Gongwer (Lori) of Carlisle, 13 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren. Also survived by 2 brothers, Lyall Taylor of Philomath, Oregon, Don Taylor of Cedar Rapids, and a sister, Thelma Wood of Marion.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jerome J. Gongwer in 1997, 3 brothers, Cliff, Mike and Gene, 2 step sisters, Margaret and Bonnie; and a step brother, Bill.
Erva was born June 6, 1921 in Belle Plain, the daughter of William and Rose Mitchell Taylor. She married
Jerome J. Gongwer on August 3, 1941 in Cedar Rapids. Erva worked for Jack & Jill Preschool for 18 years and was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church where she was active in many groups from the church. She enjoyed sewing, craft making, and chaperoning many Drum Corps trips. Her love for her family was endless and treasured the times spent with them. She was a very loving wife, mother and grandmother. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
A memorial fund has been established for Carlisle Care Center and Hospice of Central Iowa.

Eula Faye Gibbs, 86, a resident of the Hiawatha Care Center, died there Thursday, December 11, 2008, following a long illness. Services at 2 PM Sunday in the Valley View Baptist Church. Burial in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 2 to 5 PM on Saturday and at the church after 1 PM on Sunday.
Faye was born on April 30, 1922, to Ray and Icle Henderson the oldest of three girls.
She married
Fred Havran in 1940 the father of Carol Ann and Nancy Kaye. Fred died from wounds received in the Battle of the Bulge. Faye remarried in 1946 to Donald Blount father of Crystal Lea, who died in 1948. In 1948, Faye married
Harlan Gibbs, father of James Ray and Thomas Leslie. Fay and “Bud” were married
48 years prior to his death in December 1996.
Besides her own five children, Faye and Bud cared for many foster children.
Faye is also survived by her two sisters, Betty Taylor of Cedar Rapids and Nadine Clawson of Lenexa, Kansas; 13 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
