Ann Gilbert (Chana Zylberstajn), 84, of Cedar Rapids and Los Angeles, California, died Saturday, December 13, 2008. Services: 10:00 a.m. Sunday at Temple Judah by Rabbi Aaron Sherman. Burial: Eben Israel Cemetery.
Ann is survived by her husband, Fred of 62 years; a son, Jack Gilbert of Albany, CA; and two daughters, Doris (Gary) Gilbert-Stieger of San Francisco, CA, and Lena Gilbert of Springville.
She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers and sisters, who all perished during WWII.
Ann was born on July 20, 1924 in Szydlowiec, Poland to Josek and Laja Zylberstajn. Ann was a Holocaust survivor. She spent over four years in concentration camps and was liberated in April, 1945. She married
Fred Gilbert (Felek Gebotszrajber) on January 2, 1946 in Scwabisch Hall, Germany. Ann was a consummate homemaker, an accomplished seamstress and devoted to her family. She and Fred lived in Cedar Rapids from 1949 to 1986 where she was an active member of Temple Judah and in the community. She was a lifetime member of Hadassah. From 1986 to 2003 Ann and Fred lived in Los Angeles, California where she was a much sought after seamstress to film and motion picture stars. Ann and Fred were also very active in the survivor community. They were regular speakers at the Simon Wiesenthal Center - Museum of Tolerance in Los Angeles. She and Fred lectured frequently about their experiences. In 2003 she and Fred returned to Cedar Rapids to be near to Lena. Ann remained a constant source of inspiration and will be greatly missed.
Instead of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the Holocaust fund of Temple Judah or to the Simon Wiesenthal Center - Museum of Tolerance in Los Angeles.
Maxine E. Greve

Maxine E. Greve, 86, of Cedar Rapids, died Tuesday July 26, 2011 in the Dennis & Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy. Services: 12:00 p.m. Saturday at Trinity Lutheran Church by the Rev. David Miller. Visitation will be on Friday at Cedar Memorial Westside Chapel from 4-7 p.m. and after 11:00 a.m. at the church on Saturday. Inurnment: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Survivors include her son, Mark (Patti) Greve of Hiawatha, a grandson, Kurtis (Susan) of Center Point, Iowa, four great grandchildren, Samantha, Dakota, Hanna, Cooper, a brother, Roland Huebner of Manilla, Iowa and a sister, Janice (Joe) Shirbroun of Coon Rapids, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Duane R. Greve.
Maxine was born June 6, 1925 in Crawford County, the daughter of Herman and Hilaria Wenzel Huebner. She married
Duane R. Greve on January 3, 1945. Maxine worked for Farmstead Foods for 40 years, US Cellular Center for 25 years and JoAnn’s Fabrics for 20 years. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, where she was active in Ruth Guild and the Church Choir. She was also a member of the Eastern Iowa Heirloom Quilters Guild and Twin Pines and Ellis Ladies Golf Association. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, working out at Curves and spending time with her grandson, great grandchildren and family. The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff at the Dennis & Donna Hospice House of Mercy, Jamisine Nabi MD and Hospice Home Care for the loving care they gave to Maxine.
A memorial fund has been established.

Bertha C. Greene Milota, age 95, 300 Main St., Lowden, died September 10, 2012. Funeral services will be held Friday, September 14, 2012 at 11:00 A.M. at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories in Cedar Rapids, with Rev. Steven Knudson from First Lutheran Church officiating. Burial will be at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery (with first husband, Tom Greene).
Bertha was born October 13, 1916 to Alve James Miller and Louella (Lovell) Miller at North English, Iowa. Moved to Cedar Rapids at age seven.
She is survived by a son, Thomas Greene of Baldwin, Iowa, and daughter, Christine Clausen of San Rafael, California, one sister, Glenna Massler of Creve Coeur, Missouri; step-daughter Marilyn Lafrenz, step-grandchildren Rick (Terri) Kraemer, Randy (Ana) Kraemer, Dawn (David) Adney, and several great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters Mabelle Watson, Frances Burgess, Margarite Selser, Rosemary Cook and a brother, Ernie Miller.
She was married
to Thomas Greene who died in 1966. She then married
Lee Milota in 1967; he died in 1982. She then married
Gerald Nyberg in 1987, who died in 1993.
She was a member of First Lutheran Church while living in Cedar Rapids. She attended school in Cedar Rapids and was employed in the accounting department of Collins Radio Co. for 17 years.
Bertha was past president Noble Grand of Praha Rebekah Lodge, past Chief Matriarch of Linn Encampment Auxiliary, and Past President of Ladies Auxiliary of patriarch militants 100F of Cedar Rapids. She was a member of Jolly 9 Card Club, the Birthday Club, and 3/30 Golf & Country Club of Lowden. She enjoyed reading, crocheting, embroidery, textile painting, and making quilts.

Isabelle E. Giovanazzi, 82, of Cedar Rapids, died August 15, 2012 at St. Luke’s Hospital. Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 18, 2012 at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories with Rev. William B. Harnish officiating. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, August 17, 2012 at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. Burial will take place at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Surviving are her children, Sandra K. Zahn and husband Rick of Cedar Rapids and Sally A. Cook and husband Thomas of Ozark, MO; her grandchildren, Brandon (Jessica) Cook, Sara (Alex Abel) Cook and Zachary Zahn; her great grandchildren, Samantha Ralls and Amelia Cook; her brother, Donald Webster and wife Mary of Cedar Rapids; as well as many nieces, nephews and extended family members.
Isabelle was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Robert “Bobby Jo”; her son, Steven G. Giovanazzi; and 11 brothers and sisters.
Isabelle Elsie Giovanazzi was born June 15, 1930 in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of Leslie L. and Mabel (Wenger) Webster. She was united in marriage to Robert “Bobby Jo” Giovanazzi on February 20, 1952. Bobby Jo preceded her in death in 2005. She was employed for many years at Turner Microphone and later at Mid American Alarm. Isabelle enjoyed crocheting, taking care of others and time on her computer. Her greatest delight was being with her family and her kitten Charlie who she dearly loved. She will be greatly missed.
Memorial donations in Isabelle’s honor may be directed to the Cedar Valley Humane Society.

Dwight (Ike) Eldon Gordinier, 83, went peacefully to be with the Lord April 11, 2012. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 17, 2012 at the Hillside Wesleyan Church. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, April 16, 2012 at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. Burial will take place at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Born May 5, 1928 in Rippey, IA. Ike was one of 10 children born to William Coe Gordinier and Verna (Thornburg) Gordinier. His playful sense of humor served him well in life. Ike was married
in 1953 to the love of his life, Colleen Llewellyn. As a young man, he worked with his brother Karl on his father’s milk route. Later he worked for Graybar Electric, Maytag, and Westinghouse Electric. Ike traveled to Haiti in the 90’s with his church group to provide missionary volunteer services to the needy. The trip was to last 10 days, but Ike stayed for a year. He always longed to return to continue lending a helping hand.
He treasured spending time with family, and especially kids. He also enjoyed spending time and taking adventures with his many friends. He was a life-long member of the “Master Baiters” fishing group that took annual fishing outings in Minnesota.
Ike is survived by: brother, Ham Gordinier, son/daughter-in law, David (JoAnn) Gordinier, son John Gordinier (significant other, Grace Clinton), and daughter/son-in-law Diane (Jack) Runge; grandchildren: Nicole, Brad, Jason, Sarah, Lena, Dejah; great grandchildren: Charlotte, Julia, Dakari, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Colleen, brothers Bill, Kenny, Carl, Dean, and sisters Val, Mary, Georgia, and Eula.
He will be missed by all.
