Cleo N. Giltrap, 85, of Marion, died at Village Ridge Care Center, Tuesday, March 27, 2012. Services: 1 p.m. Friday at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories by the Rev. Martha Rogers. Interment: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. A visitation will be held Thursday at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 4 to 7 p.m.

Cleo is survived by her children, Ray Giltrap of Diamondhead, MS, Jane (Steve Streets) Giltrap of LeClaire and Marv Giltrap of Ft. Worth, TX; grandchildren, Sherry (Carl) Bahr, Danielle (Brian) Bentley, and Dylan (Tina) Giltrap; and eight great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Donald, and a daughter, Jo.

Cleo was born April 1, 1926 in Marion to Harry and Jennie Van Fossen. She married Donald Giltrap in Cedar Rapids on September 8, 1946. He died in 1991. She was an active member of Christ Episcopal Church. Cleo loved to knit and crochet, donating her items to several charities.

Memorials may be directed to Christ Episcopal Church.

John "Jack" Francis Garry
Born in Bancroft, Iowa on December 2, 1931

John “Jack” Garry, 80, of Cedar Rapids, died Friday, March 16, 2012 at Manor Care Rehab Center. His Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Pius X Catholic Church on Tuesday at 10 a.m. by the Rev. Phil Thompson. Inurnment will be at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be on Monday from 4 to 6 p.m. with a vigil service beginning at 5 p.m. at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.

Jack is survived by his wife of 54 years, Mary Anne; his children, Anne of Birmingham, AL, Steve of Iowa City and Ellen and her husband, David, of Western Springs, IL; and his beloved granddaughter, Olivia. He is also survived by his brothers and sisters, Pat, Phil, Rose, Tom, Louise, and George and their spouses as well as many nieces and nephews; brother-in-law, Tom Morgan; and sisters-in-law, Mari and Barbara Morgan and Phyllis Garry. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Richard, and brothers-in-law Bill and Jim Morgan.

Jack was born in Bancroft, Iowa, the third son of Tom and Florence Sandschulte Garry. He graduated from Loras College and received his Masters of Education degree in counseling from the University of Missouri. He also did additional post graduate work at the University of Iowa and the University of South Dakota. He retired from Metro High School in 1999. Jack had served as their guidance counselor for over 25 years. He had also been a counselor at Washington High School, Kennedy High School and McKinley Jr. High School.

Jack was a long time member of St. Pius X Church and served as a lector and usher. In his younger years he was also very involved in St. Pius X School, having served as President of the Board of Education and served two terms on the Archdiocesan Board of Education.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Community Health Free Clinic or to Hospice of Mercy.

Doris Marie Gibbs
Born in Kansas City, Missouri on August 16, 1924
Departed on October 22, 2011. Resided in Marion, Iowa.

Service: Friday, October 28, 2011
Doris Turney Gibbs, 87, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, formerly of Slidell, Louisiana, passed away on Saturday, October 22, 2011, at her home in Cedar Rapids. A memorial service will be held at 9:30 AM on Friday, October 28, 2011, at Keystone Cedars Assisted Living. Mike Patterson will officiate, with burial at Green Lawn Cemetery in Plattsburg, Missouri, at a later date.

She is survived by her daughter, Beth (Preston) Johnson of Mount Vernon, Iowa; sons, Randy (Cheryl) Gibbs of Ann Arbor, Michigan, and Kenneth Gibbs of Atlanta, Georgia; five grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Commander (Retired) USN Howard Ben Gibbs, and her parents, Gerald and Helen Turney.

Doris Marie Turney was born August 16, 1924, in Kansas City, Missouri, the daughter of Gerald and Helen (Scott) Turney. Doris married Howard Gibbs on July 15, 1945, in Kansas City, Missouri. She graduated from The University of Kansas with a degree in music. Doris played violin in the symphony in Albuquerque, New Mexico. She taught grade school in Norfolk, Virginia, and she taught music throughout her life. Doris was a 40 year member of the First Presbyterian Church in Slidell, Louisiana, and she was an avid bridge player, earning the Silver Life Master ranking.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the First Presbyterian Church in Slidell, Louisiana.

Gloria Ann Gienapp
Born in Reinbeck, Iowa on September 9, 1935
Departed on October 21, 2011. Resided in Anamosa, Iowa.

Service: Monday, October 24, 2011
Gloria Ann Gienapp, 76, of Anamosa, went to be with the Lord on Thursday October 20, 2011 surrounded by her family in her home. There will be a celebration of life gathering at Scott, Cristin, and Lyndsay Gienapp's home at 345 Deerwood Drive in Anamosa on Sunday from 2 to 4 PM. There will also be a memorial services at 11:00 Am on Monday at the First Congregational Church in Anamosa. Rev. Mike Williams will officiate. Inurnment at a later date at the Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include her husband, Glen, her children, Ron (Paula) of Woodbridge, Virginia, Deb (Steve) Brinkman of Wyoming, Iowa, Don (Sue) of Albany, Illinois, Lisa (Randy) Lewis, and Scott (Cristin) all of Anamosa; her siblings, Jerry, Leon and Kay Thomsen; grandchildren, Cameron and Connyr Lewis, Jenni (Carl) Williams, Jeff (Kristine) Brinkman, Lyndsay Gienapp, Trish (Brian) Hoff, Josh (Lynn) Wagoner and 11 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Gordon Thomsen and Loren Dooley.
Gloria was born on September 9, 1935 in Reinbeck, the daughter of Ervin and Leona Petersen Thomsen. She married her husband of 57 years, Glen R. Gienapp on July 16, 1954 in Manchester. Gloria and Glen lived in Wyoming, Iowa for 32 years before moving to Anamosa. She retired from Emerson in the early 90s.
Gloria loved spending time with her family and trips to the casino and mini trips to eat out. She treasured her family the most. Memorials can be established to the Cardiac Pulmonary Rehab at Jones County Regional Hospital or Above and Beyond Hospice.

Wilma Arlene Grim
Born in Washingtjon on October 16, 1917
Departed on October 19, 2011. Resided in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Wilma Arlene Galloway Grim 94, of Cedar Rapids, died Wednesday October 19, 2011. Memorial Services: 11:00 a.m. Friday October 21, at Westminster Presbyterian Church, where a visitation will begin at 10:00a.m. Inurnment will be at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. The Pastor Dr. Katie Hopper will officiate. Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include her sister, Eleanor VanValkenburg of Charmichael, California, 4 children; Judy Spencer and husband Bob of San Antonio, Texas, Sharon Grim of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Peter Grim and his wife Madelyn of San Tan Valley, Arizona and Scott Grim and his wife Susan of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, her grandchildren; David Spencer and his wife Jill of San Antonio, Texas, Suzi Froelich of McQueeney, Texas, Michael Grim and his wife Tonya of Omaha, Nebraska, and Christopher Grim of Urbana, Iowa, her great grandchildren; Matthew, Ava, Chloe, Dillon and Alex and a great great grandson Logan. She was preceded in death by her parents Frank and Beulah, husband, Dawson E. Grim, a sister Roberta Carey and brothers, Don and Eugene Galloway.
Wilma was born in Washington, Iowa on October 16, 1917 to Frank and Beulah Galloway. Her childhood was spent in Postville, Iowa where she graduated from Postville High School in 1935 and graduated from Coe College in 1939. She married Dr. Dawson E. Grim on September 1, 1940 and made their home in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Wilma belonged to several volunteer groups including the American Red Cross, Linn Community Food Bank, a past president of Chapter HJ P.E.O.. board member of Linnhaven, and a 70 year member of Westminster Presbyterian Church. The family would like to thank all of the staff at Keystone Cedar for the wonderful time she lived there, and the wonderful people from hospice.
Memorials may be made to Westminster Presbyterian Church.

Mitchell Gene Gallo
Born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa on July 3, 1979
Departed on October 2, 2011. Resided in Hiawatha, Iowa.

Mitchell Gene Gallo, 32, of Hiawatha died on Sunday October 2, 2011 at ASAC. He was born on July 3, 1979 in Cedar Rapids. He graduated from C.R. Washington High School in 1997. He later graduated from Kirkwood Community College with an A.A. in nursing. Recently, Mitch had been working on a degree in computer programming from Kirkwood.

Survivors include his father, Gary (Deb) Gallo of Fairfax, brothers, Sam (Laura) Gallo, Loi Lam, and Joe Collins; sister, Maria Gallo (Andy Holtz); grandmother, Dorothy Meloan and 3 nieces and 3 nephews, all of Cedar Rapids. He was preceded in death by his mother, Julie Meloan.

A celebration of life service will take place on Thursday, October 6 at 5 PM at the Red Cedar Lodge in Squaw Creek Park in Cedar Rapids.

Mitch loved to spend time with his family and friends and enjoyed life. He loved technology and playing music. He would often go hunting and fishing and loved to tell stories. In his presence, we always had cloudless skies and endless laughs.

A memorial fund has been established in Mitch’s name.

Thanks to all the family and friends who have been there for Mitch over the years, having kept him in your thoughts and prayers. We look forward to hearing your stories at the service on Thursday.

Leo Louis Greco

Leo Louis Greco, 89, of Cedar Rapids, died Tuesday, August 2, 2011 at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House, surrounded by his family. Funeral Mass: 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Matthew Catholic Church by the Rev. David Beckman, Rev. Mark Osterhaus, Rev. Gerald Condon, Rev. Fred Fangman, and Rev. Steve Rosonke. Entombment: Mt. Calvary Cemetery with military honors. A visitation will be held at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home Friday from 3 to 8 p.m. and after 10 a.m. Saturday at the church.
Leo was born in Oelwein, IA to Dominic and Mary Napoli Greco on November 1, 1921. He served proudly in the US Navy and was aboard the USS Luce on May 4, 1945 when the ship was sunk by Kamikaze planes off the coast of Okinawa. He married Louise Dugger of Oran, IA on August 5, 1945, and they lived happily together until her death in January, 2008. They had five children, Larry (Judy), Linda Greco-Sanders (Michael), Lou Ann Heng (Frank), Lisa Rehman (Jeff), and Lance (Liesa), 9 grandchildren, Ben (Jen) Greco, Andy (Sandy) Greco, parents of great grandchild Aaron, Kati and Daniel Heng, Alex and Leo Rehman, and Callista, Gabriel and Asa Greco.
Leo began his lifelong career as a musician and entertainer at age 15. His band, Leo and the Pioneers, sponsored by Kent Feeds, traveled 10 states entertaining people with their wide variety of music for more than 20 years. Leo began working at WMT radio in 1971. His radio program, Variety Time, has been on the air for 38 years. “Service to others” was his motto. An Honorary Board Member of Camp Courageous, he worked faithfully to promote their mission, as a recreational facility for individuals with disabilities. He also helped initiate the collection of pop can tabs to raise significant funds for the Shriner’s Transportation Fund. He was an avid mall walker and cribbage competitor at Lindale mall and had a close group of friends there.
In addition to Louise, he was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Arlene and Theresa, and brother Lou. Surviving siblings include his sister Rose Ratchford of Waterloo and brothers John (Ella) of Oelwein and Pete (Mary Lou) of Maynard.
He was a friend to everyone he met, and will be dearly missed by those who loved him. Memorial donations may be made to Camp Courageous of Iowa in Monticello or to St. Matthew Church, Cedar Rapids IA.
When asked to sum up his life, Leo said “Say he served the Lord well and wants to thank everybody who has been so nice to him over the years.”
The Greco family would like to thank the compassionate caregivers at Hospice House of Mercy, the many doctors and staff at Mercy Medical Center, Dr. Tim Sagers and his staff, as well as Dr. Steven Beevers, Dr. David Rater, Dr. Todd Walker and many other caring medical personnel.
