CEDAR FALLS -- Marie Maass, 94, of Cedar Falls, formerly of LuVerne, died Thursday, May 3, 2001, at the Cedar Falls Western Home Martin Center of natural causes.
She was born Dec. 24, 1906, in Paynesville, Minn., daughter of Adam and Lillian Methfesel Wiener. She married Arthur Henry Maass on Nov. 29, 1939, in LuVerne. He died Oct. 18, 1960.
Mrs. Maass received her teaching certificate from the Iowa State Normal School, Cedar Falls, and then taught school for 12 years in rural Cedar Falls and LuVerne.
Survived by: two sons, Robert L. of Ellsworth and Marvin of Webster City; two daughters, Lavon D. Maass of Cedar Falls and Maebelle Powell of Ida Grove; 10 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; and a brother, Merle Wiener of LaGuna Hills, Calif.
Preceded in death by: two brothers, Orace and Paul Wiener; and two sisters, Viola Knudson and Pearl Asa.
Services: 10 a.m. Saturday at the Western Home Chapel, with burial at 2:30 p.m. in the LuVerne Cemetery. Friends may call for an hour before services Saturday at the chapel.

WATERLOO -- Mervin R. Hunter, 90, of Parkview Nursing and Rehab Center, formerly of Jesup, died Monday, April 30, 2001, at Covenant Medical Center of natural causes.
He was born Feb. 13, 1911, in Shell Rock, son of Cliff and Maude Metzger Hunter. He married Ida May Cremer on June 4, 1939, in Ottumwa. She died Oct. 29, 1993.
Mr. Hunter farmed in rural Jesup until his retirement in 1979. He was named Iowa Master Swine Producer in 1953. He served as past president of the Production Credit Association, past chairman of the Eastern Iowa Poultry Association and director of the Jesup Co-Operative. He also was past chair of the board of deacons at Walnut Ridge Baptist Church.
Survived by: two sons, Richard of Jesup and Charles E. of Doha, Qatar; six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Genevieve Cave and Lucille Blunt, both of Shell Rock.
Preceded in death by: a son, Robert; two brothers, Vernon and Clyde, in infancy; and a sister, Helen.
Services: 2 p.m. Sunday at Walnut Ridge Baptist Church, with burial in the Garden of Memories Cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 6 p.m. Saturday at Locke Funeral Home, and for an hour before services Sunday at the church.

WATERLOO -- Johnny Harrington, 86, of CountryView Care Center, formerly of 610 E. Fourth St., Apt. 48, died Wednesday, May 2, 2001, at the nursing home of natural causes.
He was born June 14, 1914, in Goodman, Miss., son of Ernest and Gertrude Pratt Harrington. He married Della Sproles. They were later divorced. He married Elizabeth Ray Oct. 7, 1951, in Bronx, N.Y. She preceded him in death.
Mr. Harrington was formerly employed as a dry-cleaning specialist in New York. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
Survived by: four daughters, Lucy Scullark and Lillie Hart, both of Waterloo, Gertrude Collier of Omaha, Neb., and Alfreda Reynolds of Bronx; 22 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren; two stepsons, Tommy E. Ray of West Haven, Conn., and John D. Ray of Virginia; a stepdaughter, Nancy Glover of Waterloo; and two sisters, Masie Wright of Richland, Miss., and Fannie Harrington of Manhattan, N.Y.
Preceded in death by: three brothers, Homer, Osby and Karl; and a sister, Elnora Story.
Services: 1 p.m. Saturday at Gift of Life Church, with burial in the Garden of Memories Cemetery. Military rites will be conducted by American Legion Post 138 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1623. Friends may call from 4 to 6 p.m. today at Sanders Funeral Service, and for an hour before services Saturday at the church.

WATERLOO -- Elaine A. Bass, 75, of 425 Allen St., died Friday, May 4, 2001, at her home of natural causes.
She was born Feb. 23, 1926, in Dysart, daughter of William and Mabel Herrington Ohde. She married Clifford C. Bass on Jan. 25, 1947, in Waterloo. He died Jan. 7, 1988.
Mrs. Bass was a sales clerk at Sears for 16 years, retiring in 1986.
Survived by: four sons, Michel of Parkersburg, David and Jeff, both of Waterloo, and Anthony of Raymond; two daughters, Linda Lowe of Stockton, Calif., and Barb Reed of Waterloo; and 15 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Services: 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Edward's Catholic Church, with burial in Mount Olivet Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway, where there will be a 7 p.m. vigil service, and for an hour before services Wednesday at the church.

DUNKERTON -- Annetta M. Moeller, 73, of the Denver Sunset Home, Denver, formerly of Dunkerton, died Saturday, May 5, 2001, at Allen Hospital, Waterloo, after a lengthy illness.
She was born July 9, 1927, in Gladbrook, daughter of Thomas T. and Lela Nichols Nye. She married Gordon Moeller on Dec. 24, 1949, in Waterloo.
Mrs. Moeller attended Iowa Sate Teacher's College for two years. She was a teacher in the Dunkerton area and worked at Black's Department Store and at H&R Block.
Survived by: her husband; three sons, Andrew R. of Dunkerton, Thomas H. of Gilbertville and Philip G. of Marion; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; and a sister, Edith Adams of Dunkerton.
Preceded in death by: a sister, Lucille Grinnell.
Services: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church, Dunkerton, with burial in Garden of Memories, Waterloo. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Garden View Chapel, Waterloo, and for an hour before services Wednesday at the church.

WATERLOO -- Nancy Lou Clifton, 51, of Waterloo, died Saturday, May 5, 2001, at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home of cancer.
She was born June 16, 1949, in Waterloo, daughter of Dallas G. and Gladys E. Clapp Farr. She married Thomas L. Clifton on Sept. 16, 1968, in Waterloo.
Mrs. Clifton worked as a bookkeeper at Skate County from 1978 to 1998. She was a 1967 graduate of Northern University High School and attended Gates Business College.
Survived by: her husband; two sons, Chad D. of Tucson, Ariz., and Zachary T. of Waterloo; a daughter, Amber S. Clifton of Waterloo; her mother of Waterloo; and two brothers, Darrell A. and Leslie D. Farr, both of Waterloo.
Preceded in death by: her father; and a brother, Dallas G. Farr.

WATERLOO -- Monica E. Galleger, 90, of Ravenwood Nursing and Rehab Center, died Friday, May 4, 2001, at Covenant Medical Center from complications of Alzheimer's disease.
She was born May 9, 1910, in Pocahontas, daughter of Frank and Olive Pearl Lyst Fisher. She married William J. Galleger on Feb. 9, 1931, in Blair, Neb. He died Feb. 20, 1989.
Mrs. Galleger was employed with W.T. Grant Co. and sold Stanley Home Products in Waterloo. She and her husband owned and operated Bill's Tap in Garnavillo and Family Hardware in Mechanicsville.
Survived by: two sons, Robert of McGregor and Gerald of Fairbank; two daughters, Beverly Joblinske of Waterloo and Karen Railsback of Canyon Lake, Texas; and 17 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandson.
Preceded in death by: a son, LeRoy; a granddaughter; a brother, Arnold Fisher; and three sisters, Gertrude Larue, Margaret Suvkoboke and Irene McNaughton.
Services: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, with burial in Mount Olivet Cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. today at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on South Street, where there will be a 4 p.m. Catholic Daughters of the Americas rosary and a 7 p.m. vigil service. WATERLOO -- Joann Caroline Dodge, 76, of 427 Cornwall Ave., died Saturday, May 5, 2001, at Covenant Medical Center of natural causes.
She was born Dec. 16, 1924, in Herrick, S.D., daughter of Arthur O. and Elizabeth C. Scheinost. She married John W. Dodge on Sept. 20, 1947, in Chicago.
Mrs. Dodge was a 1946 graduate of St. Xavier's College and Mercy Hospital School of Nursing, Chicago, and worked as a registered nurse.
Survived by: her husband; a son, John W. Jr. of Waterloo; a daughter, Elizabeth A. Dodge of DeSoto; and three grandsons and a great-grandson.
Preceded in death by: a sister and a brother.
