Fred “F. R.” Gilbert (Felek Gebotszrajber), 90, of Cedar Rapids and Los Angeles, California, died on Monday, October 26, 2009. Services: 1 p.m. Tuesday at Temple Judah by Rabbi Todd Thalblum. Burial: Eben Israel Cemetery. Cedar Memorial Westside Chapel is entrusted with the arrangements
Fred is survived by a son, Jack Gilbert of Albany, CA; and two daughters, Doris (Gary) Gilbert-Stieger of San Francisco, CA, and Lena Gilbert of Springville.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers and sisters, who all perished during WWII; and his cherished wife, Ann, of 62 years, on December 13, 2008.
Fred was born on February 15, 1919 in Warsaw, Poland to Josef and Doba Gebotszrajber. He married
Ann Gilbert (Chana Zylberstajn), on January 2, 1946 in Scwabisch Hall, Germany where he was appointed Chief of Police. He and Ann lived in Cedar Rapids from 1949 to 1986 where he was the General Manager for purchasing and sales for E. Cohn and Sons, retiring in 1985. Fred was an active member of Temple Judah and in the community. He was a lifetime member of B’nai Brit. He and Ann both were Holocaust survivors. He spent over five years in nineteen different concentration camps and was liberated in April, 1945. Fred and Ann lectured frequently about their experiences. They lived in Los Angeles, California from 1986 to 2003 and were very active in the survivor community. He and Ann were regular speakers at the Simon Wiesenthal Center and Museum of Tolerance in Los Angeles. In 2003 he and Ann returned to Cedar Rapids to be near to Lena.
Fred was devoted to his wife, Ann and always held her in highest regard; especially her cooking talents. Fred took great pride in having served as an interpreter at the Nuremberg Trials and enjoyed his lifelong fluency in Yiddish, Polish, German, Czech, Russian, and English. Fred’s great sense of humor and patriotism impressed everyone he met and he shall be greatly missed.
Instead of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the Holocaust fund of Temple Judah or to the Simon Wiesenthal Center - Museum of Tolerance in Los Angeles.

Mark W. Grimm, 49, of 1131 18th Ave. SW. died Friday December 4, 2009 at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha of cancer. Services at 11:00 AM on Tuesday at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Rev. Mel Ramos will officiate. Inurnment at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 5 to 8 PM on Monday.
Survivors include a son, Kurtis (Darcy), his mother, Marlus and two sisters, Kay (Leon) Dirks all of Cedar Rapids and Peggy (Brett) Brophy of Fairfax. He is also survived by a special friend, Christine O’Connor, nieces and nephews; Valerie Brophy, Casey, Noel, and Wyatt Dirks, many aunts, uncles and cousins and his two cats, Shadow and Stormy. He was preceded in death by his father.
Mark was born on August 20, 1960 in Cedar Rapids, the son of Glenn and Marlus Lohrer Grimm. He graduated from Jefferson High School in 1980. Mark worked at Big Timber for several years. He was a skilled woodworker and proudly served in the National Guard. Mark was a wonderful father, son, brother and friend who will be greatly missed.
A memorial fund has been established in Mark’s name.
Mary Jane Good

Mary Jane Good, 84, formerly of Cedar Rapids, died Sunday, December 06, 2009, at the Iowa Masonic Health Facility, Bettendorf. Services: 11 a.m. Saturday at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Interment: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. A visitation will be held form 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.
Mary is survived by daughter, Pam (Joe) Rauch of Davenport; four grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; brother, Larry Jones of Des Moines; and sister, Helen Sargent of Des Moines. She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Howard Perrigo and Hubert Good; sisters, Odessa Davis, June Jones, and Wanda Anderson; and brothers, Jerry Jones and Firman Jones.
Mary was born April 2, 1925 in Des Moines to James and Helen Virden. She married
Howard on September 9, 1948. He died in 1993. She married
Hubert Good on June 4, 1994. He died in 2007. She was the Activities Director for the Iowa Masonic Health Facility from 1956 to 1979 when she retired.

Warren Edwin Gilliland, 86 died suddenly Friday, December 18, 2009 at his home in Cedar Rapids. Services: 11 am Tuesday at New Covenant Bible Church by the Rev. Bob Westfall and Rev. Kim Pagel. Private Family Interment: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 4 to 8 pm Monday at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home and from 10 to 11 am Tuesday at the church.
Warren is survived by his wife of 56 years, Harriett; his brother Maxfred; his son Richard and wife Susan Gilliland of Cedar Rapids; daughter-in-law Gerri Gilliland of New Berlin, WI, sons John Gilliland of Marion and Jeffrey Gilliland of Wheaton, IL; grandson James and wife Christina, gransons Stephen and David, and great-granddaughter Abigail.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Myles, sisters Jackie and Shirley and son Timothy.
Warren Gilliland was born September 18, 1923 in Omaha, Nebraska, the son of Frederick Everett Gilliland and Meda Miller Gilliland. He graduated from Omaha North High School. During World War II, he bacame an Air Force pilot and served as a flight instructor. Following the war, he received his mechanical engineering degree from Kansas State University. He moved to Cedar Rapids in 1951 to work for Collins Radio, and married
Harriett Jean McLellan in Omaha on July 25, 1953. After working for Collins/Rockwell International, Warren was employed by Norand Corporation until retirement in 1991.
Warren had a quiet smile, a dry sense of humor, and was always loyal and helpful to family and friends. He was particularly tender in his care for his wife during her recent surgeries. Warren enjoyed sports, playing for many years on company and city softball teams and later taking up racquetball. He loved the outdoors: hunting, fishing and more recently particiapting in a walking group. He also appreciated music, particularly his gransons' jazz band concerts and the music at New Covenant Bible Church, where he was actively involved.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made in Warren's name to New Covenant Bible church Building Fund or Camp Courageious.
Mildred Elizabeth Gobidas

Mildred Elizabeth Gobidas, 93, a resident of Mercy Hallmar, died there Friday, January 8, 2010. Services will be held at 1 PM Wednesday in Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Rev. Laura Smith of Kenwood Park United Methodist Church will officiate. Burial in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 PM Tuesday in Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home, and after 12:30 PM Wednesday at the chapel.
Surviving to honor her memory are two daughters, Kathleen (Richard) Derbes of Tequesta, Florida, and Michelle Behnke of Cedar Rapids, two granddaughters Danielle and Aimee Derbes, a nephew Rick (Nancy) Thornburgh of Saginaw, Michigan, a niece Claudia Fuller of Guntersville, Alabama, and a cousin Leland (Brownie) Thornburgh of Pleasantville, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her parents Morton and Martha Walker Thornburgh, and her husband Carmen Gobidas, two sisters, and one brother.
Mildred was born November 11, 1916 in Pleasantville, Iowa. She graduated from Pleasantville High School. She married
Carmen L. Gobidas on August 3, 1943 in Oakland, California. She was employed by the Cedar Rapids School System and then by Rockwell-Collins as a secretary for a total of 40 years. She was a member of Kenwood Park United Methodist Church. She loved music, dancing, and sewing.

Phyllis H. Glasford, 78, of Cedar Rapids died Saturday, January 23, 2010 at St. Luke’s Hospital following a brief illness.
Friends may call on Thursday, January 28, 2010 from 4-7 pm at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. Inurnment will be held in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery at a later date.
Survivors include her husband of 60 years, Allan; Daughter, Teri Glasford-Doraby (Michael) of Ballston Spa, New York; Son, Jay Glasford (Jinnine) of Cedar Rapids; Grandchildren, James (Kathleen) Macarevey, Erin (Kevin) Macarevey, Scot (Amy) Glasford and Whitney (Brandon) Dalecky; Sister-in-law, Susan Ricks of Bath, New York; and a future great granddaughter’s expected birth in March.
Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents, brother and sister-in-law.
Phyllis Helen Witters was born November 7, 1931 in Gouverneur, New York the daughter of Raymond and Hazel (Hilts) Witters. She married
Allan J. Glasford on December 19, 1949 in Gouverneur, New York. She was very supportive of Allan during his college years, his first job and family moves around the country. They just celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in 2009. Phyllis was a homemaker, had a quick wit about her, had a great sense of humor, enjoyed puzzles and was a bridge enthusiast. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, best friend and will be greatly missed by all.
