Alice M. Hunt, 77, of 4331 M Avenue NW, died at St. Luke's Hospital Tuesday, May 4, 2004 after a short illness. Services: 1 p.m. Friday at Turner West Funeral Home by the Rev. Chuck Stevens of the First Church of the Open Bible. Burial: Stanwood Cemetery. Friends may call Thursday at Turner West Funeral Home from 4 to 8 p.m. and after 12 p.m. Friday.

Survivors include two sons, Larry Sharon Hunt and Rex Karen Hunt, all of Cedar Rapids; a son-in-law Paul Long of Cedar Rapids; five grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren.

Alice was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Eugene Hunt and a daughter Judy.

Born May 13, 1926 in Conroy, Alice married Eugene Hunt in Lancaster, MO on June 21, 1941. He died in 2002.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.

Dorothy E. Holets

Dorthy E. Holets, 84, of Cedar Rapids went to be with the Lord on May 14, 2004. Dorothy loved to laugh and spend time with her many friends. In keeping with her wishes, a casual Celebration of Life gathering will be held rather than traditional services. The Celebration will be held Monday, May 17, 2004 at the Moose Lodge, 1820 West Post Road SW at 5:00 PM.
She was born December 29, 1919 in Williamsburg, Iowa, the beloved daughter of David and Rose Furman. She is survived by a daughter, Rosalie LeGrand Jerry of Fairfax, 2 sons, Russell Jeffrey Judy of Polk City and Robert L. Holets Kathy of Cedar Rapids, a sister, Virginia Nissen of Jasper, GA., 11 grandchildren and many great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert J. Holets, a son, Richard Dick Jeffrey, a brother, Russell Furman and a grandson, Mark LeGrand.
She married Chester Jeffrey in 1940 and later divorced. She then married Robert J. Holets in 1959. She worked for many years at Collins Radio and then Norand Corporation until her retirement in 1985. She was an animal lover her entire life. She was loved deeply and will be greatly missed by all. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Cedar Valley Humane Society or Discovery Living Inc.

Betty A. Holst
Born in Lancaster, Wisconsin on June 10, 1921

Betty A. Holst, 82, of 1212 32nd Street NE, went to be with the Lord Thursday, May 20, 2004, in Mercy Medical Center following a long illness. Services at 11 AM Monday in Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. Rev. Rick Gail of First Assembly of God Church will officiate. Burial in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Funeral Home from 4 to 7 PM on Sunday and at the chapel after 10:30 AM on Monday.
Survivors include three sons Wayne Holst and wife Chris of Cedar Rapids, Gary Holst and wife Susan of Coggon, and Bill Holst of Cedar Rapids, a daughter Judy Brown and husband Ron of Bolingbrook, Illinois, four sisters Katherine Dabbs of Salem, Wisconsin, Phyllis Schnieder of Kenosha, Wisconsin, Edna Jerrett of Lancaster, Wisconsin, and Geneva Droessler of Dubuque, a brother Harold "Buzz" Addison of Kenosha, Wisconsin, ten grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two daughters Colleen Poggenpohl and Kimberly Holst, a brother Jim Addison, and a sister Marian Edge.
Betty was born June 10, 1921 in Lancaster, Wisconsin to George and Ethel Bass Addison. She married Earl N. Holst on November 10, 1941 in Kahoka, Missouri. He died January 3, 1993. Betty had worked at the Paramount Theatre and at the Danceland Ballroom, and was a homemaker. She was a member of the I-O-Wanderer's Camping Club of Iowa City. She enjoyed cooking, especially her peach pie, sewing, and flower gardening.
A memorial fund has been established.

Gertrude M. Holladay
Born in Omaha, Nebraska on April 9, 1925
Departed on June 2, 2004. Resided in Cedar Rapids, IA.

Gertrude Mary Holladay, "Trudy", a thirty-five year resident of Northeast Cedar Rapids died on June 2 after a long illness, she was 79.
Wife of the late Lt. Col. John S. Holladay, sister of the late John and Thomas Hope of Omaha, NE, and beloved mother of Catherine Murphy of Cape Cod, Ma., John Holladay of Martha's Vineyard, MA, and Donald Holladay of Spirit Lake, Ia. The former Gertrude Hope was raised in Omaha and graduated from Duchense High School. Following her marriage in Biloxi, Mississippi, she lived throughout the United States as the wife of an Air Force Pilot. She made a home for her family in Alaska, Alabama, Hawaii, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, and Nebraska before settling in Cedar Rapids. Trudy was active in Air Force Wives clubs helping new arrivals feel welcome in their new environment. She was also a contributor to numerous Catholic Churches around the country as well as a member of various church choirs. She is also survived by grandchildren Christine Holladay, Ensign Scott Murphy, USCG, Julie Wing, Vanessa Murphy, and Nicole McDonnell, great grandchildren Chelsea Murphy, Jacob Wing, and Caitlyn Murphy, and close friends Janie Holladay and Carol Olson of Cedar Rapids.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to visiting hours from 5 to 7 PM with a vigil service beginning at 7 PM on June 6 at Cedar Memorial Funeral Home as well as the funeral mass to be held at 10:30 AM Monday at St. Pius X RC Church in Cedar Rapids with Father Donald Klein and Deacon Lanny Peterson officiating.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to Hospice of Cedar Rapids, 836 1st Ave NE, Cedar Rapids, Iowa 52402

: Darlene Hanks Ferguson, 80, of 6917 Kiowa Trace NE, formerly of Hot Springs Village, Arkansas, died Saturday, June 5, 2004, in St. Luke's Hospital following a long illness. Memorial services at 11 AM Wednesday in Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. Rev. William Harnish will officiate. Inurnment in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may register at the chapel after 10:30 AM on Wednesday. Arrangements by Cedar Memorial Funeral Home.
Survivors include her children Terry Primrose and husband Dennis of Cedar Rapids, Christine Moon and husband Michael of Belle Plaine, Michael Hanks and wife Michelle of Solon, and Mark Hanks of Cedar Rapids, a sister Verlene Weber and husband Dale of Bath, Michigan, three step children, James Ferguson Jr. and wife Bonita of Marshall, Arkansas, Judi Green and husband Jim of St. Louis, and Virginia Pirino and husband John of Hillsboro, Missouri, 18 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews, and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents William and Mabel Sherman Vaughn.
Darlene was born November 2, 1923 in Sumner Township in Iowa County. She graduated from McKinley High School in 1941 and then attended Nursing School in Denver, Colorado. She married Aaron Hanks who passed away in 1980. She later married James Ferguson who died in 2003. Darlene worked in the medical field in Cedar Rapids and retired from the Iowa Department of Social Services. She loved to work crossword puzzles and enjoyed bird watching. Her family and friends were an important part of her life and she will be missed by all.

Robert Bob H. Heuston
Born in Boulder, Colorado on February 22, 1923
Departed on July 3, 2004. Resided in Cedar Rapids, IA.

Robert Bob H. Heuston, of 190 Cottage Grove Ave SE, died Saturday in St. Luke's Hospital. Services at 1 PM Thursday in Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. Rev. William Harnish will officiate. Burial in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Funeral Home from 4 to 6 PM on Wednesday and at the chapel after 12:30 PM on Thursday.
Bob was born February 22, 1923, in Boulder, Colorado, the son of Dr. and Mrs. Howard H. Heuston. He graduated from Boulder High School and the University of Colorado with a degree in mechanical engineering. He served in the U. S. Navy with the Seabees in the South Pacific during World War II.
In 1949, he married Myrtle Barnes of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and rejoined the Navy as a regular officer in the Civil Engineer Corps. He subsequently served, with Myrtle, in the South Pacific again, California, Mississippi and New York at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute for a degree in civil engineering, and then in London, England, Illinois, and Washington D.C. He retired from the Navy with the rank of Commander in 1965. He then accepted an appointment as Director of Engineering at Rush Presbyterian St. Luke's Medical Center in Chicago. He was employed later at Michael Reese Hospital and Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago, retiring in 1986 as Vice President for Facilities and Engineering.
In 1986, they moved to their new home they built on their farm in Johnson County, Iowa, where they raised British White Park cattle. In 1998, they moved to their condominium in Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include his wife, Myrtle, of 55 years, daughter Karen and husband Tom Nesler of Ft. Collins, Colorado, son Gregory and wife Tricia of Scottsdale, Arizona, daughter Laura and husband Bob Koecheler of Boulder, Colorado, grandchildren Laura, Amy, Carrie, Katie, and Steven, brother William Heuston Addie of Louisville, Colorado, and sister Helen Harper of Aurora, Colorado. He also leaves behind sisters in law, Eleanor Reeder Carl of Cedar Rapids, Gladys B. Johnson of Texas, Elsie Bond Bill, Ellen Heuston, and two brothers in law Norman Barnes Donna of Cedar Rapids, and Alf Barnes Joan of Texas. He was preceded in death by his younger brother Philip.
Bob was known for his generous and gentle spirit and will be missed by all.

Rita M. Hauersperger

Rita M. Hauersperger, 81, of Crestview Acres, formerly of 3033 Leonard St. NE died Wed. July 7, 2004 at Mercy Medical Center after a short illness. Services at 10 AM on Sat. at St. Patrick's Catholic Church. Rev. Steve Rosonke will officiate. Inurnment at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation at the Cedar Memorial Funeral Home from 5 to 8 PM on Friday and at the Church after 9:30 AM on Sat.
Survivors include her daughter, Ann of Cedar Rapids, a son, Clarence 'Harry' and his wife, Kelly of McCallsburg, a sister, Mary Barnes and husband, Gene of Vinton and a brother, Billy Pfiffner and his wife, Ethel of Oklahoma. She was preceded in death by a brother, Norbert.
Rita was born on June 14, 1923 in Waterloo, the daughter of William and Theresa Geib Pfiffner. She married Lester C. Hauersperger on May 7, 1944 in Waterloo. They were later divorced. Rita worked at HACAP as a bookkeeper and retired from there after 10 years of service. She attended St. Patrick's Catholic Church and loved to sew, do needlework, gardening and painting. Rita played the piano, organ and sang at many weddings and funerals. Memorial donations may be given to St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Rita's name.

Survivors include her husband Patric, two sons Richard Patric Hills of Marion, and Ryan Alan Hills of Cedar Rapids, her father Arthur Drtina of Marion, a brother Donald Drtina and wife Deanna of Central City, two sisters Belinda Drtina and significant other Paul Carpenter of Colville, Washington, and Janel Johnson and significant other Steve Gourley of Delhi, 2 grandchildren, and a sister in law Teresa Drtina of Marion. She was preceded in death by her mother Theola Drtina, and a brother Bud Drtina.
Debra was born December 4, 1952 in Cresco, Iowa. She married Patric A. Hills on May 20, 1972 in the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. She worked for 31 years for Rockwell-Collins as a PC Board Processor. She enjoyed oil painting, gardening, jigsaw puzzles, and greatly enjoyed her family and her two dogs Charlene and Harley.
A memorial fund has been established.
