Ardis Lee Hubbard 80, of Daytona Beach Shores, Florida, passed away Sunday, September 5, 2004, in her home following a long illness. Services at 1 PM Saturday in Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. Rev. William Harnish will officiate. Burial in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Funeral Home from 5 to 8 PM on Friday and at the chapel after 12:30 PM on Saturday.
Survivors include her beloved husband of 45 years Hoover, a son Gerald Davis and wife Pat of Gurnee, Illinois, 8 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, two sisters Charlene Tom Wilson of Cedar Rapids, and Naomi Fred Brown of Marion, two brothers John Hillary Herman of Florida, and Marvin Sharon Herman of Cedar Rapids, brothers in law Ken Pat Hubbard of Cedar Rapids, and Lindy Hubbard of Las Vegas, Nevada, and many nieces and nephews, and an aunt Marie Kelley of Marion.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and a brother Lyle Herman.
Ardis was born December 15, 1923 in Audubon, Iowa, the daughter of Vesta and Merle Kelley. She graduated from Roosevelt High School in Cedar Rapids. She was active in the Democratic Party, labor union local 43 with her husband, the women of the Moose, and the Eagle's Auxiliary.
Ardis was a big fan of stock car racing and had many friends in the racing community. Ardis will be missed by all.

William G. ''Bill'' Harrington II
Born in Des Moines, Iowa on January 14, 1948
Departed on September 7, 2004. Resided in Cedar Rapids, IA.

William G. "Bill" Harrington II, 56, of 2061 Franklin Ave NE, died Tuesday, September 7, 2004, in his home following a valiant battle with cancer surrounded by his loving wife Jane, as well as family and friends. Memorial services at 1 PM Friday in Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories with Rev. Mark Thomas officiating. Friends may register at the chapel after 12:30 PM on Friday. Arrangements by Cedar Memorial Funeral Home.
Survivors include his wife Jane, his son Jon Augustine of Lake Charles, Louisiana, a step-daughter Suzanne Martin of La Mesa, California, his mother Ardella W. Harrington of Cedar Rapids, 2 step sons Nick and Josh Clark of Springville, a brother H. L. "Hezz" Harrington and wife Vicki of Cedar Rapids, one granddaughter, 3 step granddaughters, one step grandson, and two nieces Kate Harrington of Cedar Rapids, and Jen Harrington of Minnesota. He was preceded in death by his father, three aunts, one uncle, and his close friend and fellow rider Lon Heck.
Bill was born January 14, 1948 in Des Moines, Iowa to William G. and Ardella W. Harrington. As a child he lived in several communities before his parents settled in Cedar Rapids. He was a 1966 graduate of Washington High School. He also was a graduate of Kirkwood Community College. As a sideline he was involved in the area music business, both as a performer in several bands notably "Razor", and as a technical consultant. Having honed his computer skills in the legal field in California, he returned to Cedar Rapids in 1996, whereupon he joined Rockwell-Collins working in eBusiness, most recently as a Unix Administrator.
Bill was a devoted Harley-Davidson rider, having begun his connection with motorcycles in the 1960's. He was a well-respected rider and comrade to fellow enthusiasts. His cycling abilities afforded him the opportunity to ride to all of the continental United States, as well as Canada, and Mexico. He recently visited his 49th state adding Alaska to his "map".
Instead of flowers memorial contributions may be directed to the Anna Purna Ghosh Memorial.

Donald R. Hugh
Born in Delhi, Iowa on February 8, 1926
Departed on September 17, 2004. Resided in Cedar Rapids, IA.

Donald R. Hugh, 78, of 1309 Hertz Dr. SE died Friday, Sept. 17, 2004 at his home after a 21 year battle with cancer. Services at 10:30 AM on Monday at St. Paul's United Methodist Church. Rev. Harlan Gillespie and Rev. Lloyd Brockmeyer will officiate. Inurnment at the Evergreen Cemetery in Delhi at a later date. Friends may call at the Cedar Memorial Funeral home from 2 to 5 PM on Sunday and at the Church after 9:30 AM on Monday.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Trudy and a brother, Clair and his wife, Josephine of Belleview, Washington. He is also survived by a brother in law, Jack Schalles of Ceres, California and 14 nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Don was born on Feb. 8, 1926 in Delhi, the son of Raymond and Marie File Hugh. He graduated from Delhi High School in 1943, he received his bachelors degree form Iowa State Teachers College in 1949 and his master's degree from the University of Wyoming in 1957. He married Gertrude 'Trudy' Werner on Dec. 24, 1951 in Robesonia, PA. Don taught in Gowrie for seven years and later at Washington High School for 31 years where he was head of the Math Dept. for 14 years, retiring in 1988. He was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church and proudly served in the Navy during WWII, with his last assignment on the submarine, Trepang.
Don was an avid sports fan and followed the Washington Warriors, Iowa Hawkeyes and the Chicago Cubs. Don touched the lives of many. He was respected and admired by his colleagues and students. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be given to St. Paul's United Methodist Church or to Washington High School in Don's name.

Eleanor L. Hopper
Born in Newhall, Iowa on June 30, 1917
Departed on September 20, 2004. Resided in Shellsburg, IA.

Eleanor L. Hopper, 87, of Shellsburg, died Monday, September 20, 2004, in St. Luke's Hospital following a short illness. Graveside services at 3 PM Thursday in Memorial Lawn Section of Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Chaplain Steve Hindman of St. Luke's Hospital will officiate. Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Funeral Home from 5 to 8 PM on Wednesday.
Survivors include 2 sister-in-laws, Ruth Hopper of Marion, and Rose Weininger of Cedar Rapids, a special cousin and caregivers Ernest and Joan Reinberg of Cedar Rapids, and other nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and a brother Ralph Baumgartner.
Eleanor was born June 30, 1917 in Newhall, Iowa to Charles and Meta Schultz Baumgartner. She married Donald A. Hopper on December 23, 1942 in Cedar Rapids. She was a custodian at the Shellsburg Public School for 19 years retiring in 1976. She was active with the Civil Defense with her husband and loved to travel, especially to Alaska.

Lester A. Hansen
Born in Cedar Falls, Iowa on August 23, 1919

Lester A. Hansen, 85, of Cedar Rapids passed away Monday, November 15, 2004 at St. Luke's Hospital of age related causes.
He was born August 23, 1919 in Cedar Falls, lived on a farm in New Hartford with his parents Arthur and Ida Hansen, a brother Earl, and a sister Viola, all who preceded him in death.
He is survived by his wife Helen of 64 years; sons Robert and wife Carole and Roger and wife Harlene all of Cedar Rapids; and a grandson, Brice of Ely, MN; three sisters-in-law, Marian Hansen, Vivian Nicholson, and Charlotte Anton; and several nieces and nephews.
Lester retired from Sun Oil Company after 39 years. He was a 50 year member and Past Master of Beaver Masonic Lodge, which is now joined with Black Hawk Lodge in Cedar Falls. Family, golfing, fishing, playing cards, winters in the south were his favorite ways to spend time.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, 11:00 A.M. at the Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. Inurnment is private.
Memorials may be made to Lovely Lane United Methodist Church.

Samuel W. Hershberger Jr.
Born in Kalona, Iowa on October 16, 1931

Samuel W. Hershberger Jr., 73, of 1110 1st Street SW, died Tuesday, November 16, 2004 in Mercy Hallmar following a long illness. Rev. Fran Griffeth will officiate. Services with military rites at 10 AM Friday in Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Funeral Home from 5 to 8 PM on Thursday and at the chapel after 9:30 AM on Friday.
Survivors include his wife Fontelle, three daughters Nanette Schulte and husband Terry of Amana, Samantha Willis and significant other Scott Sperry of Cedar Rapids, and Paula Fry and husband Richard of Robins, Iowa, a son Samuel W. Hershberger III of Cedar Rapids, a sister Ardith Ropp of Kalona, Iowa, 11 grandchildren, and 2 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, one sister, and one granddaughter.
Samuel was born October 16, 1931 in Kalona, Iowa to Samuel W. and Cora Brenneman Hershberger Sr. He married Fontelle M. Pityer on July 8, 1953 in Cedar Rapids. He owned and operated Alpha Pack/Taxi. He was a 20 year Navy Veteran. He was a member of VFW Post No 788, and a former member of Elkahir Shrine and the Masonic Lodge.
Military rites by VFW Post No 788.
A memorial fund has been established.

Matthew Earl Hanlon
Born in Preston, Minnesota on August 1, 1924
Departed on November 20, 2004. Resided in Cedar Rapids, IA.

Matthew E. Hanlon, 80, of 2901 Soutter Avenue SE, died at home with his loving family at his side, Saturday, November 20, 2004 after a short illness. Funeral Mass: 10 a.m. Tuesday at All Saints Catholic Church by the Rev. David O'Connor with military services. Inurnment: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. A vigil service will be held at 7 p.m. Monday at Cedar Memorial Funeral Home where friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday and after 9 a.m. Tuesday at the church.

Survivors include his wife, Mary; a son Matthew J. Hanlon of Anamosa; four daughters, Janice Steve Hahn of Epworth, Ida Mae Larry Barker of Center Point, Mary Jo Bob Votrobeck of North Liberty, and Patricia Hanlon, of Cedar Rapids; 15 grandchildren; and 15 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother John D. Hanlon.

Matthew was born August 1, 1924 in Preston, MN to Earl and Lenora Thorson Hanlon. He married Mary Hein on May 11, 1946 in Dubuque. He was employed by the Chicago Milwaukee St. Paul & Pacific Railroad for over 42 years, retiring in 1984. Matthew was an Army veteran of WWII. He was a member of All Saints Catholic Church, the Brotherhood of Railway Clerks, and the American Legion, Hanford Post #5.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family.
