Dewey R. Humphries, 85, of Meth Wick Manor and formerly of Mt. Vernon, died there Thursday following a short illness. Services: 2 p.m. Saturday at the Mt. Vernon United Methodist Church by Rev. Frank Seydel officiating. Private family inurment: Mt. Vernon Cemetery. Friends may call at the church from noon to 2 p.m. on Saturday with the service to follow. Arrangements are with the Cedar Memorial Funeral Home.
Surviving besides his wife Dorothy, are 3 daughters, Lynne Mike Gonzales of Moreno Valley, California, Cathy Dan Stoner and Marcia Kevin Driscoll of Mt. Vernon, Iowa and 8 grandchildren, Jennifer, Kim, Vicki Alan, Matt, Chris, Emily, Erin Andy and Megan and a great granddaughter Brooke.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 5 brothers and 3 sisters.
He was born September 8, 1921 in Lydia, South Carolina to Albert and Emily Howell Humphries and was married
to Dorothy Johnson on January 17, 1948 at the Mt. Vernon United Methodist Church in Mt. Vernon, Iowa. He served during World War II in the Army Air Corp and met his wife during this time in the 58th Field Hospital in Germany.
Dewey and Dot had owned and operated the Holiday House Restaurant in Mt. Vernon for many years. They were proud of their employees, many of who became lifelong friends. They were also proud to host meetings for several service groups and served pregame meals to the Iowa Football Teams under coach Forest Evashevski.
Dewey was a member of the Mt. Vernon United Methodist Church, Mt. Vernon Lions Club, Mt. Vernon Rotary Club and the Mt. Vernon Masonic Lodge # 112 and the VFW.
He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather and was blessed to have so many friends.

Elizabeth Margaret Heefner

Elizabeth "Betty" M. Heefner, 83, of Cedar Rapids, died May 4, 2007 at Mercy Medical Center following an extended illness. Funeral Services 9 AM Monday, May 7, 2007 at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. Rev. Gerald Condon will officiate. Interment: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to Cedar Memorial Funeral Home.
Survivors include sons John R. Heefner, Jr. and wife Carole of Cedar Rapids, and James Heefner and wife Connie of Roswell, GA; daughter Julie Whittemore and husband James of Bartlett, IL; and a sister Robin Sage of Cedar Rapids. Also surviving are a cousin Marilyn Dorrance of Cedar Rapids; and her beloved 9 grandchildren, and 8 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a son Jeffrey Heefner, and her husband John R. Heefner, Sr. in 1984.
Elizabeth Margaret Heefner was born February 29, 1924 in Cedar Rapids, the beloved daughter of Robert and Margaret Woods Kutchera. She was united in marriage to John R. Heefner, Sr. in 1947. She was co-owner of Kutchera Construction Company. She was a member of St. Matthew Catholic Church. She enjoyed playing bridge, bingo, black jack, and was affectionately known as the "Casino Queen". She is survived and will be greatly missed by her beloved kitty Rosebud. She also enjoyed spending time on Lake Vermillion, and was blessed to be able to enjoy the company of her beloved children and grandchildren. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and friend of many and will be greatly missed by those that knew and loved her.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of 9th Floor Mercy Hospital, and the entire staff of Hospice of Mercy.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations in honor of Betty may be made to Hospice of Mercy.

Donald Miles Harrison, 76, of 3101 Dalewood Avenue SE, died at St. Luke's Hospital Friday, May 4, 2007, after an extended illness. There will be no services. Inurnment in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Arrangements are with Cedar Memorial Funeral Home.
Survivors include her son Charles and wife Coralee, and grandson Jamie all of Cedar Rapids; a brother, James Harrison of California; and 2 sisters, Betty Kimball and Mary Louis Newman, all of Cedar Rapids.
Donald was born on September 26, 1930 in Cedar Rapids to Paul and Alice Harrison. He married
Delores Biggers in Farragut on April 10, 1955. She died on April 21, 2007. He worked for MidAmerican Energy for over 38 years, retiring in 1991. Donald was an Army veteran of the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the Marion American Legion #298 and the V.F.W. Post 788. Donald collected bluegrass music and vintage car collectibles. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan.

Mary A. Hennessey, 88, of Marion, died peacefully Sunday, May 6, 2007 at Mercy Medical Center, surrounded by her children, following a short illness. Funeral Mass: 11:00 A.M. Friday at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Burial: Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Funeral Home on Thursday from 4PM to 8PM where a Vigil Service will be held at 7PM.
Surviving are her children, Joanne Stevens Thomas Jackson of Cedar Rapids; George Hennessey Peggy of Cedar Rapids; and Chris Gage Dave of Marion; two sisters, Lillian Hackney of Cedar Rapids and Frances Hennessey John Sr. of Cedar Rapids; six grandsons, Aaron Stevens, Ben Stevens, Chase Hennessey, Clinton Gage, Kolin Gage Jennifer, and Keegan Gage; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and in-laws.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Jim and Frank Tresnak.
Mary was born August 24, 1918 in Cedar Rapids the daughter of James and Emma Bousek Tresnak. She attended St. Wencelaus grade school and high school where she was a star basketball player on the schools state championship team. She married
William R. Hennessey on January 19, 1950 in Cedar Rapids. They were married
for over 55 years. Mary was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church for 50 years. She volunteered her time to church activities. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother and will be greatly missed. Mary loved to play bingo and cards. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, entertaining and crafts which included crocheting and embroidery.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of the 9th floor at Mercy Medical Center and to the entire staff of Hallmar 2nd floor.

Shirley S. Hazelbaker

Shirley S. Hazelbaker, 58, of 1519 Bever Ave. SE., the home of her sister, died Sat. May 12, 2007 after a Short illness. Services at 1 PM on Monday at the Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. Rev. Lloyd

Survivors include two daughters who have lost both parents to cancer, Sharon Mentus of Virginia Beach, Virginia, and Dawn Leland; her parents, Norman and Imogene Snell; a sister, Theresa Snell, and two brothers, Norward and Mark Snell all of Cedar Rapids. She is also survived by four grandchildren, Candice and Morgan Leland, Alexandria and John Michael Mentus and one great grandchild, Tristen Gates. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Henry and Theresa LeClere Winch, Maurice Snell and Freda Ecker.
Shirley was born on Nov. 14, 1948 in Quonset Point, RD., the daughter of Norman and Imogene Winch Snell. She married
William Hazelbaker on Dec. 9, 1986 in Virginia Beach, Virginia. He died in 1997. She was a clerk typist for the US Government in Norfolk, Virginia for several years. Shirley was an artist and worked with stained glass. She was a wonderful daughter, mother, and grandmother. She will be greatly missed by her friends and beloved family.
A memorial fund has been established in Shirley's name.

Grace A. Harris, 70, of 2015 20th Street NW and formerly of 353 26th Street NW, went to be with the Lord, Monday, May 14, 2007, after a short fight with ALS Lou Gehrig's Disease. Services: 10 a.m. Thursday at Trinity Lutheran Church by the Rev. Parker Knoll. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. A visitation will be held at Cedar Memorial Westside Chapel on Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m. and after 9 a.m. Thursday at the church.
Grace is survived by her children, Bonnie John Peal of Marion, Kris White of Corpus Christi, TX, Kevin Roxy Smith of Cedar Rapids, Sharon Don Drahn of Monona; Bob Pat Harris of Marion, Greg Harris and Shirley of Cedar Rapids, 17 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; a brother-in-law, Bruce, sister-in-law, Iris; nieces, nephews, and cousins; a stepbrother, Wayne; close friends, Albert and Mitzi Van Gampleare, Harold and Pat Burkhart, Ellie Wenndt, and many more.
She was preceded in death by her parents; stepfather; sister, husband; grandson; and twin great granddaughters.
Grace was born on July 31, 1936 in Fond du lac, WI to John and Ida Gerten. She lived in Clinton, Iowa from 1941 to 1950. They moved to Brandon in 1950 and she graduated from high school there. She worked at Collins Radio, Tobacco Bowl, and retired from Norand in 1989. She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary #788, Trinity Lutheran Church, and a baseball contributor and fan. She was a seamstress for the Cedar Rapids Kernels and volunteered for many years. She married
George Smith in 1954. They were later divorced. She married
Thurman Harris in 1974 at Trinity Lutheran Church.
Grace was a devoted wife, a wonderful caring mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She will be greatly missed by all.
