Billy L. Hale, 81, a resident of Living Center West, went to be with his Lord on Monday, May 14, 2007, following a lengthy battle with cancer. Services at 11 AM Saturday, Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories with Rev. Dan Wiersema of Immanuel Baptist Church and Rev. Brian Milford of Lovely Lane United Methodist Church officiating. Entombment in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Funeral Home from 5 to 7 PM on Friday and at the chapel after 10:30 AM on Saturday.
Survivors include a daughter Julie Ron Hackett of Cedar Rapids, a son Martin Yvonne Hale of Lebanon, New Jersey, a daughter-in-law, Linda Niles Gardemann of Cedar Rapids, two sisters Dorothy Ron Van Note of Marion, and Darlene John Pruett, and a brother Milton Jeanette Hale all of Cedar Rapids; six grandchildren, Danielle John Goselin, Eric Regena Hale, Melanie Rob Zywicki, Stephanie Hackett, Renee Chad Greenlee, and Andrew Hale; six great grandchildren, Colton, Corissa, Gabrielle, Jacob, Ella, and Julia; a special nephew Carlos Mendoza; and many nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife Julia, a son Randy, his parents, two sisters, and three brothers.
Bill was born April 29, 1926 in Cedar Rapids to David E. and Elizabeth Mefford Hale.
He married
Julia Cortez on June 7, 1947 in Cedar Rapids. She died September 27, 2004.
Bill served in the US Army during WW II. He was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church.
Bill was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He loved spending time with his family, socializing, teaching Sunday school, and working in his flower gardens. He will be greatly missed by those who loved him.
A memorial fund has been established in Billy's name.

Leonard Red M. Henderson, 75, of 3112 Tiperary Drive N.E., died Tuesday May 29, 2007 in Mercy Medical Center following a long illness. Visitation will be held at Cedar Memorial Funeral Home from 3 to 7 PM on Sunday, June 3rd with a Vigil Service beginning at 4 PM. Funeral mass at 10 AM Monday, June 4 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church by Rev. Nils Hernandez. Luncheon following mass. Graveside services and interment at 1:30 PM Monday at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Walker, Iowa with military honors.
Survivors include his wife of over 50 years Marjorie, five daughters Sheila Dave Ries of Morrison, Colorado, Sheryl Steve Rigoni of Cedar Rapids, Sandy Henderson of Cedar Rapids, Sonya Dave Marshall of Marion, and Shelley Mark Drish of Cedar Rapids, a son Lynn Henderson of Cedar Rapids, two brothers Ray Ruth Attwood of Center Point, Dale Attwood of Cedar Rapids, two sisters Bev Ed McVay of Center Point, and Emma Marie Dan Adams of Illinois, 11 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Thomas Attwood.
Leonard was born in Troy Mills, Iowa. He married
the love of his life Marjorie Winn on August 4, 1956 in Iowa City. He proudly served with the United States Air Force during the Korean War. He was a faithful member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Leonard worked hard and proud for many years. He owned and operated several gas stations in Cedar Rapids before starting his career with Kirkwood Community College and Lincoln Learning Center. He worked for 18 years as a Maintenance Supervisor for Kirkwood before retiring. He will be remembered for his passion of coaching 7th and 8th grade girls' basketball at Immaculate Conception, St. Matthews, and St. Josephs Catholic Schools. He enjoyed listening, singing and dancing to all types of music. Most dear to his heart were the dances he shared with his wife Marjorie. Leonard enjoyed fishing, sports the Chicago Cubs, gardening and his beautiful flower beds. He enjoyed playing with and being teased by his grandchildren.
He loved his wife Marjorie, his children and grandchildren with all his heart. Leonard was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, friend and coach. He will be greatly missed by all who loved him and whose lives he touched.

Mary was born in Cedar Rapids on June 5, 1920 to Bertha and Charles Penningroth. She attended the public schools in Cedar Rapids graduating from McKinley High School. Mary graduated from S.U.I with a Bachelor of Science degree in Commerce. While there, she belonged to Alpha Chi Omega and Phi Gamma Nu Sororities and was on the board of the YWCA. She married
William A. Hull on August 18, 1942 in Cedar Rapids. Following her marriage she was employed by Shell Oil Co. of Spokane, WA, where she was an accountant; taught at the Lost Nation High School in Iowa and taught in the school system of Alexandria, LA. She was active on many boards of various charities as well as on most boards of her church. She was a member of Chapter HJ, PEO, the Wednesday Shakespeare Club, the Hi Lo Co. an investment club where she was treasurer, and the Cedar Rapids Country Club.
Her parents and her brother Herbert, his wife Mary Kay and her brother-in-law, Ernest Pence preceded her in death.
She is survived by her husband, Bill; her three children all of whom she adored, Patty Powers and her husband Jim, Richard Hull and his wife Ellen, all of Cedar Rapids and John Hull of Houston, TX; four grandchildren, Kristin Waldon and her husband Ted of Seattle, WA, Stuart Powers of Cedar Rapids, Aaron Hull and his wife Carrie of Cedar Rapids and Amy Karr and her husband Kris of Marion; her great grandchildren, Arianna, Noah, Leah and Elijah Hull. She is also survived by her sister, Charlotte Pence; many nieces and nephews; and three good friends, Marie, Serge and Lionel all of Luxembourg, Europe.
She enjoyed gardening, fishing in northern Minnesota and Canada, needlepointing, knitting, golfing, playing bridge and other card games. She had many friends and enjoyed being with them. She loved to travel extensively in the U.S. and Europe.

Services: 10:00 A.M. Saturday at First Presbyterian Church. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Funeral Home on Friday from 4PM to 7PM. The Rev Thomas E.S. Miller and The Rev. Lori Wunder of First Presbyterian Church will officiate.

Clarice "Kay" Parker Rowray Higham, 89, of Manor Care Nursing and Rehab, died there, Saturday, June 16, 2007, after a long illness. There will be no services. Inurnment: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Cedar Memorial Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include a son, Mike Jinty Rowray of Marion; a daughter, Judy Shinnick of Mesa, AZ; 2 brothers, Roy Parker of McHenry, IL, and Mike Parker of Cedar Rapids; a sister, Gloria Fass of Oklahoma City, OK; and 4 grandchildren, David and Daniel Cunningham, and Elliott and Deborah Rowray.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Ruth Helm; 2 brothers, Tom and Guy Parker; her first husband, Maynard Rowray in 1967; and her 2nd husband, James Higham in 1988.
Kay was born June 11, 1918 in Nebraska City, NE to Roy and Vera Myers Parker. She married
James Higham on October 2, 1967 in Nashua.

William A. Hamer, 64, of 1200 State Street in Ely died Tuesday June 19, 2007 at St. Luke's Hospital after a short illness. Services at 10 AM on Sat at the Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. Rev. Survivors include his wife, Linda, two daughters, Amy Wignall of Marshalltown and her fiance', Chris Weston, and Abby Bowman and her husband, Frank, of North Liberty, his mother, Viola Hamer, a brother, Kenneth and his wife, Barb and a sister, Karen Michalec, her husband, Frank and their two sons, all of Cedar Rapids. He is also survived by two grandchildren, Maddison Wignall and Malina Bowman. He was preceded in death by his father.
Bill was born on Sept. 22, 1942 in Cedar Rapids, the son of Allen and Viola Sweet Hamer. He married
Linda L. Helbig on June 12, 1964 in Cedar Rapids. Bill was a service technician for Eastman Kodak and retired from there after many years of service. He was a member of VFW Post No. 788 and proudly served in the Navy during the Vietnam War. He enjoyed fishing, computers, his Koi pond and especially loved time spent with his family and many friends. A memorial fund has been established in Bill's name. Military rites by VFW Post No. 788.

Winnifred M. "Winnie" Helm, 86, of 2736 14th Ave SE, died Friday, July 6, 2007, in her home following a short illness. Funeral Mass at 10 AM Thursday in St. Matthew's Catholic Church. Rev. Mark Osterhaus will officiate. Burial in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call at the Church beginning at 9:30 AM on Thursday. Cedar Memorial Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include four nieces, Cynthia Bohland and husband Bob of Mankato, Minnesota, Susan Van Auken and husband Dennis of Cedar Rapids, Lori Fiebelkorn and husband Rod of Coralville, and Mary Lutz and husband Larry of Van Horne, and many other nieces and nephews from all over the country. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two brothers Joe and Jim, and three sisters Velma Wilson, Icel Driscoll, and Catherine Emmel.
Winnie was born May 6, 1921 in Van Horne Iowa to James and Catherine Duffy Tiernan. She married
Harvey K. Helm on January 20, 1944 in Cedar Rapids. Harvey died January 21, 2007. She retired from Collins Radio after 36 years. She was a member of St. Matthew's Catholic Church. She was a terrific cook and enjoyed family celebrations. She enjoyed watching Cubs Baseball and playing cards.
Winnie was a generous and loving wife, sister and aunt. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
