Helen Mollman Hovey, 78, of 2935 Somerbrook Lane, Marion, passed away peacefully at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy on November 26, 2008, after a length illness. Funeral services will be held at 11 AM Monday, Dec. 1, at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Marion at 8300 C. Avenue NE. Helen was a member of the church for more than twenty years. Visitation will be from 2 to 5 PM Sunday, Nov. 30 at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home in Cedar Rapids. Entombment will be at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Helen was born the daughter of Effie and Bill King on August 31, 1930 in Cedar Rapids. She was a graduate of Roosevelt High School and attended Cedar Rapids Business College in the 1940’s.
Helen devoted the first twenty years of her adult life to being a stay-at-home mom and raising her two sons, Mike and Greg Mollman. She was a great cook and baker, and nurtured the growth of her two sons.
In the mid 1970’s Helen was part of a pioneering wave of women that entered the workforce for the first time, starting her career in her mid 40’s. Helen’s career included a position with the Cedar Rapids Convention Bureau. She traveled the country talking to companies or groups on the advantages of having their regional or national conventions in Cedar Rapids. While with the convention bureau she was a member of the red carpet detail who welcomed dignitaries at the Cedar Rapids’ Airport. Helen also was Executive Officer of the Cedar Rapids and Marion Home Builders Association, and helped conduct many Home Builders Shows at the Five Seasons Center.
Helen was a very civic minded person. For many years she was a volunteer at St. Luke’s Hospital. She also was a fifteen year volunteer for the Cedar Rapids Riverfront Commission, and helped with many Cedar River improvements.
Helen is survived by her devoted and adoring husband Dick; two sons, Michael (Sannia) Mollman of Solon, and Greg (Cindy) Mollman of Des Moines; two stepsons, Mark Hovey of Lamont, and John (Michelle) Hovey of Red Wing, MN; ten grandchildren, Chad, Kristin, Alison, and Jacob Mollman, Sarah Mollman Lane, Emily Mollman Walter, Katie, Nick, Kimberly, and Jennifer Hovey, and four great-grandchildren. She is also survived by Cathy Mollman of Cedar Rapids, a friend and former daughter-in-law, two brothers, Francis (Betty) King and Edward (Marlene) King, both of Cedar Rapids, and one sister, Wilhemina (“Sis”) Fuchs of Naples, FL. A loving niece, Kathy Parker, a special friend, Bev Calvert and a faithful dog, Molly, also survive. Also surviving are numerous extended relatives. Helen was preceded in death by her parents, and three brothers, Bill, Frank, and Curt King.
A memorial fund in Helen’s honor has been established at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church.
We love you and miss you Helen, but we know that you are celebrating you new life with your Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Opal B. Hubbard, 98, of Cedar Rapids, died November 28, 2008 at St. Luke’s Hospital following a short illness. Funeral services will be held 1:00 PM, Sunday, November 30, 2008 at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Rev. William B. Harnish will officiate. Friends may call from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM, Saturday, November 29, 2008 at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. Interment will be private at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Survivors include her daughter Judy Ahrens of Mt. Vernon-Cedar Rapids, and son Jerry Sparks of Cedar Rapids; grandchildren Jody Ahrens, Dr. Steve Sparks and wife Sharon, Elizabeth and husband Craig, Susan VanderLinden and husband David, Laurie Terpstra, Geoff Sparks, Tony Sparks, Donita Heurich and husband Bruce, and Monica Sparks. Also surviving are daughters-in-law Donna Sparks and Marilyn Schueller; 15 great grandchildren, and 5 great great grandchildren; special nephew Ken Ehrhart and wife Nancy, and special niece Imagene Nuding.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two sons Dr. Richard Sparks, Eugene Sparks, and granddaughter Sara Weatherwax.
Opal was born September 25, 1910 in Mt. Pleasant, the daughter of Samuel and Dottie (Wilkinson) Ehrhart. She was a 50 years member of the White Shrine, the Knights of Pythians, American Legion Auxiliary, and St. Paul’s Church in Newton. She later transferred to St. Paul’s Church in Cedar Rapids, but later joined Central Park Presbyterian Church, currently Echo Hill Presbyterian Church. Opal enjoyed crossword puzzles, cooking, reading, and spending time with family. She will forever be remembered for her kindness and wonderful sense of humor.

Mildred Hinrichs, 86, of 816 Porter Ave Eau Claire, WI and formally of Cedar Rapids died Friday December 12, 2008 in Eau Claire after a long illness. Services 2:00 P.M. Monday December 22, 2008 at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories, Cedar Rapids by Reverend Jonathan Offt. Entombment will be at Cedar Memorial Mausoleum. Visitation will be from 3:00 to 6:00 P.M Sunday December 21, 2008 at Cedar Memorial Funeral Home.
Survivors include a daughter Barbara (Mike) Huggins of Eau Claire, WI, two grandsons, Michael J.B. Huggins and Matthew F.C. Huggins and a granddaughter Elizabeth A.C. Huggins. Mildred is preceded in death by her husband John H.C. Hinrichs, her parents, and three brothers, William Werning, Kenneth Werning, and Gerald (Pete) Werning.
Mildred was born January 30, 1922 in Newhall, IA to Fred and Anna Werning. She married
John H.C. Hinrichs on May 18, 1947 in Cedar Rapids. Mildred retired as assistant cashier at Peoples Bank after 43 years of service in 1984. She was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church, St Luke's Auxillary, Womens Club and Elmcrest before she moved to be with famly in Eau Claire, where she was a member of Peace Lutheran Church.

Gerald Anthony Harrington, 71, of Cedar Rapids, died peacefully with his family at St. Luke's Hospital on Wednesday, December 17, 2008. Funeral Mass will be held 10:00 AM, Monday, December 22, 2008 at All Saints Catholic Church. Rev. David O’Connor will officiate. Friends may call at the Cedar Memorial Park Family Center on Sunday, December 21, 2008 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM and at the church after 9:00 AM on Monday. A rosary will take place at 7:00 PM on Sunday, followed by a vigil service at 7:30 PM. Interment will take place at Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
Survivors include his wife, Carol; eight children, Dennis (Brenda) Harrington of Cedar Rapids, Patrick (Kelly) Harrington of Las Vegas, NV, Michele (Chris) Burke of Marion, Bob (Teresa) Harrington of Worland, WY, Tony (Susie) Harrington of Cedar Rapids, Colleen (Mark) Balen of Las Vegas, NV, Tom (Dayna) Harrington of Cedar Rapids, and Michael (Elena) Harrington of New York, NY; thirteen grandchildren, Jennifer, Jessica, Kelsie, Riley, Jordan, Emilee, Nicole, Christopher, Samantha, Jeffrey, Jake, Kylee, and Adelina ; two great-grandchildren, Katelynn and Meredith; one brother, Robert (Nancy) Harrington; and sister, Marilyn (Larry) Aspleaf; one half-sister and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Jerry was born on November 21, 1937 in Ryan, Iowa to Gerald E. and Rosalyn Harrington. He was raised in Eastern Iowa and graduated from Immaculate Conception High School in Cedar Rapids. He married
Carol Reynolds of Volga City, Iowa on August 13, 1960. A lifelong civil servant, Jerry honorably served overseas in the United States Navy in the 1950s and when he returned stateside he was a letter carrier for the United States Postal Service for 32 years. He was involved in founding the St. Patrick's Day Parade in Cedar Rapids, a former Grand Knight of Knights of Columbus Council 5677 and member of Council 909, a member of All Saints Parish, and a lifelong Cubs fan.
Those close to Jerry will remember his penchant for a good joke, good company, and a cold beer.

Services at 10:30 AM on Saturday at Our Saviors Lutheran Church where there will also be military rites. Friends may call after 9:30 AM on Saturday at the Church. Rev. Phil Jorgensen will officiate. Burial at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley, a daughter, Diane Mathes of Cedar Rapids, a son, Jay (Kathy) of St. Louis, Missouri and a sister, Shirley (Roy) Sather of Holmen, Wisconsin. He is also survived by seven grandchildren, Michael, Melissa, Nicole, Amanda, Eric, Sean and Katelyn and a great grandchild, Mandi. He was preceded in death by his parents.
David was born on July 19, 1930 in Gary, Minnesota, the son of Oscar and Inga Pederson Hamre. He married
Shirley A. Renne on Oct. 3, 1953 in Rindal, Minnesota. David worked at Rockwell-Collins for 28 years, retiring in 1987. He was a member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church, a local ham radio club and proudly served in the Army.
Memorial donations may be given to Our Saviors Lutheran Church or St. Luke's Hospice. Military rites by American Legion Hanford Post No. 5.

Matthew Donald Hanson 29, of 2746 Meadowbrook Dr. SE, died Sunday February 15, 2009. Services will be held at 3 PM Friday in Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Friends may call at the chapel from 5 to 8 PM on Thursday and on Friday after 2 PM.
Survivors include his fiancé Jennifer Matzen, daughter Emily Matzen, his father Donald (Dana) Hanson all of Cedar Rapids, his mother Cynthia Hanson of Kalona, a brother Jason and sister Molly both of Cedar Rapids, a half brother Aijay Hanson of Cedar Rapids, a step sister Ashley (Art) Wing of Maquoketa, Iowa, two step brothers Alex and Avery Davis of Cedar Rapids, and his grandparents William and Mary Gustin. He was preceded in death by a sister Kyley Marie Hanson, and grandparents Ervin and Lorraine Hanson.
Matt was born September 23, 1979 in Merrill, Wisconsin . He moved to Cedar Rapids in 1994 with his family. He attended Jefferson High School and lettered in wrestling. He was employed by M & W Manufacturing for the past four years.
Matt was very passionate about music, playing the drums, lifting weights, fishing, and collecting old Lincoln cars. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends and prided himself in being the “Best Father” that he could be. We are all so blessed to have Matt in our lives, he will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
