WATERLOO -- William Charles "Bill" Roeding, 67, of Waterloo, died here April 29, 2001 of natural causes.
He was born March 31, 1934, in Waterloo, son of Arthur and Edith Jones Roeding. He married Karen Thill on March 14, 1959, and they later divorced.
Mr. Roeding worked at Rath Packing Co. for 33 years before its closing.
Survived by: three sons, Michael of Waterloo, Carl of Reinbeck and Arthur of Ankeny; four daughters, Sara and Dora Roeding, both of Waterloo, Kimberly Troxell of Davis, Ill., and Karla Theriac of Macon, Mo.; nine grandchildren; three brothers, Ed, Harold and Jack; and nine sisters, Irene Hansen, Helen Stapella, Dorothy Carey, Ruth Myers, Jane Engle, June Walton, Carol Mills, Virginia Thill and Barbara O'Brien.
Preceded in death by: a sister, Edna.
Services: were Wednesday at Parrott & Wood Family Funeral Care, with burial in Garden of Memories.

LA PORTE CITY -- Erma R. Wilson, 74, of 1204 Bishop Ave., died Friday, May 4, 2001, at Covenant Medical Center, Waterloo, after a lengthy illness.
She was born Dec. 16, 1926, in Buffalo, Mo., daughter of Clarence and Mary Wilson Wadley. She married George A. Wilson on Nov. 9, 1945, in Newport, Ark. He died Oct. 31, 2000.
Survived by: four sons, Edd Bridgeman of La Porte City, James Wilson and Joe Wilson, both of Waterloo, and Terry Wilson of Des Moines; 12 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; a brother, Jim Wadley of Clanton, Ala.; and a sister, Francis Moore of Kalamazoo, Mich.
Preceded in death by: a son, Marcus David Wilson; a brother, J.E. Wadley; and a sister, Emogene Warren.
Graveside services: 1 p.m. Wednesday at West View Cemetery, La Porte City, where the family will have the inurnment of both Erma R. and George A. Wilson. There will be no public visitation.

WAVERLY -- Viola Marjorie "Marge" Mishler, 73, of Waverly, died Friday, May 4, 2001, at Allen Hospital, Waterloo, of natural causes.
She was born March 31, 1928, in Cedar Falls, daughter of Hans and Eleanor Nichols Rudebeck. She married Donald Mishler on Aug. 20, 1946, in Waverly.
Mrs. Mishler was employed as a member of the cleaning staff for Metro Services, Waterloo, for the past six years.
Survived by: her husband; a son, Cliff of New Hartford; three daughters, Linda Madsen of Kirby, Ark., Pam Van Hyfte of Maynard and Karen Freese of Waverly; 10 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a sister, Lila Lee Wildebuer of Fredericksburg.
Preceded in death by: two brothers, Melvin and Dallas Rudebeck; and a sister, Mary Wideman.
Services: 1 p.m. Monday at Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home, Waverly, with burial in Horton Cemetery, Horton. Friends may call from 1 to 5 p.m. today at the funeral home.

WATERLOO -- Arthur P. Lindgard, 87, of Waterloo, died Friday, May 4, 2001, at his home of natural causes.
He was born June 16, 1913, in Proctor, Minn., son of Joseph and Olga Larson Lindgard. He married Dorothy M. Studley on March 25, 1939, in Proctor.
Mr. Lindgard had been employed as an inspector at John Deere for 21 years, retiring in 1976.
Survived by: his wife; a son, Robert of Waterloo; three grandchildren; and a brother, Reidar of Bangor, Calif.
Preceded in death by: two brothers, Norbert and Orville.
Services: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Waterloo, with inurnment at a later date in the Oneota Cemetery, Duluth, Minn. There will be no visitation; his body was cremated.

CEDAR FALLS -- Hoyt C. Messerer, 83, of Cedar Falls, died Friday, May 4, 2001, at Windsor Nursing and Rehab Center, Cedar Falls, from complications of Alzheimer's disease.
He was born June 7, 1917, in Arlington, son of Henry W. and Bessie Cargin Messerer. He married Lucille H. Muschewske on Aug. 30, 1941, in Cedar Falls.
Mr. Messerer graduated from Augsburg College, Minneapolis, in 1939. He was president of First National Bank, Cedar Falls, until retiring in 1979, after which it became Norwest, and now Wells Fargo. He was founder of the Midway Bank, now Union Planters Bank, and served as president for two years.
Messerer was one of the originators of the UNI Athletic Club, and was past president of the Cedar Falls Chamber of Commerce. He was a founder of the Industrial Development Association, now Cedar Falls Industrial Park, and was a charter and founding member of Beaver Hills Country Club.
Survived by: his wife; a daughter, Ellen Koch of Maquoketa; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Preceded in death by: an infant son, Hoyt C. Messerer Jr.; and a sister, Helen Mertens.
Services: 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home. There will be no visitation.

Dorothy Ludeking, 96, of Waukon, Iowa, died Thursday, May 3, 2001, at Northgate Care Center in Waukon of natural causes. Funeral services will be held Monday, May 7th at 11 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church in Waukon. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery, Waukon. Friends may call at the church on Monday from 10 a.m. until time of service.
Dorothy was born October 5, 1904, in Ludlow Township of Allamakee County. She married Alfred Willard Ludeking on October 18, 1928, in Waukon. Her husband preceded her in death in January 1963. She worked as a clerk at the local grocery store for more than 40 years.
Dorothy's children are LaVonne Larson of Fernandina Beach, FL., Alfred Bervene (Shirley) Ludeking of Decorah, and Mary Jo (John) Beghtel, formerly of Waterloo, now of Sarasota, FL.
Dorothy's grandchildren of the Waterloo/Cedar Falls area are Bervene's daughter, Heather Ludeking, who lives and works in Waterloo; Mary Jo's oldest daughter, Shawn (Kress) McMahon with husband Scott McMahon, formerly of Waterloo, now of Atlanta, Georgia; Mary Jo's son, Craig Kress, who lives and works in Cedar Falls with his wife Dawn (Shafer) Kress, formerly of Cedar Rapids, and their daughter Kalleigh.
WATERLOO -- Viola Meyne, 98, formerly of Waterloo, died June 30 in Boulder City, Nev., of natural causes.
She was born Jan 24, 1903, in Bremer County, daughter of Henry and Nora Judisch Kussatz. She married Chris Tiedt in 1922, and they later divorced. She married Carl Melquist. He died in 1952. She then married Walter Meyne, and he died in 1988. Mrs. Meyne had been an owner of Elkader Cafe and later Airport Inn in Elkader. She also had worked at Rath Packing Co., Bishop's Buffet and Morg's sandwich shop, all in Waterloo. She moved to Las Vegas and worked at First National Bank until her retirement, then worked as a professional baby sitter, retiring again in 1995.
Survived by: a daughter, Genevieve Rasmussen of Las Vegas; two grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Preceded in death by: two brothers, Elmer and Lawrence Kussatz; two sisters, Alvina Meyer and Rosetta McClain; a grandchild; and a great-grandchild.
Services: were July 3 in Green Valley, Nev. Palm Mortuary, Las Vegas, was in charge of arrangements.
WATERLOO -- Paul R. Campbell, 80, of O'Neill, Neb., formerly of Waterloo, died Friday, July 13, 2001, at Beverly Health Care Center, O'Neill, of natural causes. He was born April 28, 1921, in Cherokee, son of John T. and Mary Jenkins Campbell. He married Virginia K. Feller June 9, 1943, in Seattle. She died March 15, 1997.A U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, Mr. Campbell was employed by Illinois Central Railroad as a mechanical foreman for 42 1/2 years, retiring April 28, 1981.
Survived by: three sons, Philip J. of O'Neill, John P. of Madrid and William G. of Waterloo; two daughters, Patricia J. Hennessey of Washington, D.C., and Barbara E. Campbell of Naperville, Ill.; eight grandchildren; a great-grandson; two sisters, Geraldine Isbell of Evergreen, Colo., and Patricia Wilkie of Larabee; and a half brother, Thomas Campbell of Ione, Calif.
Preceded in death by: an infant daughter, Katherine Campbell; and two sisters, Ellen Gilmore and Florence Wharton.
Services: 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Edward's Catholic Church, with burial in Waterloo Memorial Park Cemetery. There will be no visitation. Kearns, Huisman-Schumacher Chapel on Kimball is in charge of arrangements.

WATERLOO -- Jeanne Klaus, 73, of Waterloo, died Saturday, July 14, at Cedar Valley Hospice Home following complications of cancer. She was born Jan. 3, 1928, in Lincoln, Neb., daughter of Harold and Dorothy Bertch Patterson. She married Robert Klaus in 1949, in Waterloo, and they were later divorced. Mrs. Klaus was employed with the Waterloo Schools as a secretary for 30 years, retiring in 1997.
Survived by: a son, Jack of Kansas City, Mo.; four daughters, Patti Downs of Warsaw, Mo., Barbara Hugi of Waterloo, Marilyn Hofland of Perham, Minn., and Joanne Klaus of Sioux City; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a brother, Jim Patterson of Prescott, Conn.
Preceded in death by: a brother, Jack Patterson.
Memorial services: 4 p.m. Tuesday at Garden View Chapel, with burial at a later date in Garden of Memories Cemetery. Friends may call for an hour before services Tuesday at the chapel.
