Kenneth A. Holly, 92, of Mercy Hallmar died there on Tuesday, March 6, 2012 after a short illness. Services at 11:00 AM on Saturday at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Rev. Lloyd Brockmeyer will officiate. Entombment at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 4 to 6:30 PM on Friday.

Survivors include a daughter, Nancy (Tom) Steinke of Cedar Rapids and a brother Louis (Carole) of Monticello. He is also survived by four grandchildren, Clay Burton, Kelly, Stacey and Joel Steinke; and six great grandchildren, Brooke, Sarah, Owen, Claudia, Vivian and Zachary. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, daughter Judith Burton, two sisters, Ellen Voss and Marjorie Kliefoth and a brother James.

Ken was born on December 29, 1919 in Clayton County, Iowa the son of Albert and Anna Chapek Holly. He married Helen M. Trappe on January 31, 1942 in Cedar Rapids. She died in 2007. Ken was a masonry superintendent and warehouse manager for O.F. Paulsen for over 51 years, retiring in 2001. He was a member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, the bricklayers union and Mt. Hermon Masonic Lodge.

Ken enjoyed wood working, gardening, was an avid baseball fan and a die hard Cubs fan. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and friend who will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Clarence F. Hunter
Born in Kansas City, Missouri on October 6, 1931
Departed on March 16, 2012. Resided in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Clarence F. “Bud” Hunter passed suddenly into the presence of his Savior, Jesus Christ, on Friday, March 16, 2012 in Lake Placid, FL where he and his wife spent their winters.

A celebration of life service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, March 23, 2012 at Faith Bible Church, 95 S. Mentzer Rd, Robins, IA. Pastor Aaron Telecky of Maranatha Bible Church will conduct the services. Inurnment with military rites at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 4 – 8 p.m. on Thursday, March 22, 2012.

Bud was born October 6, 1931 in Kansas City, MO to Clarence D. and Fern Keck Hunter. He graduated from Southwest High School in Kansas City, MO in 1947. He attended the University of Iowa where he participated in football as a freshman and in R.O.T.C. He was a member of Phi Kappa Sigma fraternity. He served his country in the United States Army as the 1st Lieutenant Infantry during the Korean conflict.

Bud was a member of the Cedar Rapids Board of Realtors for 50 years. He served as President of the Board in 1969. Bud was employed by Hedges Realtors before starting his own company, Heritage Realtors with three other partners. For the past 20 plus years Bud has been self-employed as a Real Estate Appraiser.

Bud had many interests outside his profession. He was an active member of Maranatha Bible Church where he served several terms as Deacon, and attended Moody Bible Institute’s pastor’s conference several years running. He and his wife enjoyed traveling in the U.S. and Canada. Bud was a consummate outdoors-man and conservationist and was a founding member of Eastern Iowa Ducks Unlimited serving as their first president and was the driving force in starting the Green Wing program for young hunters. Bud served the Cedar Valley Humane Society as President, and was a 32nd degree Mason in Mount Hermon Lodge #263. Bud loved to fish in Canada, making annual trips with his wife and other couples, or with groups of men. Bud and his wife owned a cabin at Lake Odessa until recently where he entertained many friends and business associates, taking them hunting in his duck blind. Bud hunted ducks and geese from Saskatchewan to Arkansas along the Mississippi flyway. Bud won the Iowa Duck Calling Contest in 1968 and participated in the World Duck Calling Contest in Stuttgart, Arkansas the following year. Perhaps his favorite bird to hunt was the wild turkey. He was very successful, bagging his limit nearly every year. While in Florida this winter he was privileged to hunt turkeys with an old time Florida turkey hunter and though they didn’t take one they called up many, enjoying the strutting and bellowing of the Tom. His wife, Helen, wrote two books using Bud’s hunting prowess as the basis for the stories “Duck Hunting with Grandpa” and “Turkey Hunting with Grandpa.” For the past 12 years they have participated in a field trip at Lake Odessa with the 3rd grade students at Wapello Elementary School, all of whom have read “Duck Hunting with Grandpa.” Golf, now there is another pastime that Bud enjoyed. He was a great golf partner to his wife, sons and others. Bud was a friend of Bill W. as well as many other people, a genuine gentleman. He will be missed by his family and friends.

Bud married Sandra Studer in the 1950’s. They later divorced. Bud is survived by his best friend and wife of 31 years, Helen; and sons Kevin (Suzanne), John, a daughter Jennifer and stepchildren Stephen White (Jane) and Sara White Miller, and his sister, Diane Tait. Also surviving are 5 grandchildren, Sam and Megan Hunter, Jacob, Joshua and Laura Miller. He was preceded in death by his parents.

The family would like to express their sincerest gratitude to Edward Smoak and Jon Andersen of Lake Placid, FL for driving the Hunter’s vehicles home from Florida.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Bud’s honor to Maranatha Bible Church.

Ronald E. Hoopman
Born in Lime Springs, Iowa on June 5, 1932

Ronald E. Hoopman, 79, of Cedar Rapids and San Benito, TX, died at his winter home, Saturday, March 17, 2012. Services: 1 p.m. Monday at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories by the Rev. Bob Wessels of Holy Redeemer Lutheran Church. Interment: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery with military honors by the Iowa National Guard. A visitation will be held Sunday from 2 to 5 p.m. at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.

Ron is survived by his wife, Mardi; children, Paul Hoopman and Kathleen Rudolph, both of Cedar Rapids; sisters, Mary (LaVerne) Neste of Decorah and Nancy Oujiri of Cedar Rapids; and a grandson, Christopher Lane, a sister-in-law, Loretta Bachelder of Decorah, Iowa, and brother-in-law, Loren (Phyllis) Blumhagen of Council Bluffs, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers-in-law, Don Oujiri and George Bachelder.

Ron was born June 5, 1932 in Lime Springs to Clarence and Georgia Ione Hoopman. He married Mardella Blumhagen on September 2, 1951 in Decorah. Ron was a millwright, working for Quaker Oats, retiring in 1991. After his retirement, he and Mardella spent their winters in San Benito. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and a member of Holy Redeemer Lutheran Church, and NARCA. Ron loved model trains, and Ham Radios (KBOVLI).

Memorials may be directed to a charity of the donor’s choice.

Edna Hogan
Born in Fayetteville, Arkansas on April 27, 1939
Departed on March 30, 2012. Resided in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Edna Hogan, 72 passed from this life on March 30th, 2012 at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House following a brief illness. Entrusted with the arrangements is Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. A celebration of life will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 29th, 2012 at the Cedar Valley/Rompot Park.

Edna was born April 27, 1939 to Forrest and Mamie Wright in Fayetteville, Arkansas and moved to Cedar Rapids later that year. She married Eugene Hogan January 20th, 1958 in Cedar Rapids. Edna worked at Rockwell Collins in Cedar Rapids for 25 years opting for early retirement in 1983 to help Gene manage the Western Union/Burlington Trailways office in the Ground Transportation Center. After Gene's passing in 1988, Edna worked at the Factory Card Outlet in Des Moines and managed the Dollar Store in Lindale Mall. Health problems forced her to fully retire in 2004.

Edna is survived by her three son's Dave (Toni), Doug (Deb), Dennis (Debbie) of Cedar Rapids and daughter Dana (Dave) Smith of Des Moines. Her grandchildren Josh (Kim), Heather, Nicole and Katrina Hogan, Ty Powers all of Cedar Rapids and Amanda Duffield of Des Moines. Also surviving are her five great-grandchildren, and siblings Fran White, Betty Parmer, Bill Wright, MaryAnn (Bob) Clymer all of Cedar Rapids and John Wright of Alabama.

Preceding Edna in passing were her husband, her parents, two brothers Robert and Harold, and many brothers and sisters in-law.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy.

The family would like to thank the staff of nurses and aides at both Mercy Hospital and Mercy Hospice for their great care in making sure Mom was comfortable in her last days.

Dorothy Hintze
Born in Lowden, Iowa on November 19, 1909
Departed on April 11, 2012. Resided in Iowa CIty, Iowa.

Dorothy S. Hintze, 102, of Iowa City, formerly of Cedar Rapids and Newhall, died Wednesday, April 11, 2012 at Lantern Park Nursing and Rehab Center in Coralville. A memorial service will be held on Monday, April 23, 2012 at 11:00 am at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, Iowa City.

Dorothy was born November 19, 1909, in Lowden, the daughter of Herman and Katherine (Mente) Wiebel. She attended Iowa State Teacher’s College in Cedar Falls and taught all grades at the Village School in Massillon, Iowa, until her marriage to Herbert L. Hintze on July 11, 1937, in Lowden. For many years, she was a Camp Fire leader in Cedar Rapids, and taught Sunday and Vacation Bible School at Bethany Lutheran Church. In 1953, the Hintzes moved to Newhall where they operated a grocery store for 11 years. After returning to Cedar Rapids, Dorothy was an active member of LWML at Bethany, and volunteered at St. Luke’s Methodist Hospital where she received a pin for over 10, 000 hours of service. The last ten years she resided in Iowa City where she was a faithful member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church.

Dorothy’s family includes her daughter, Rebecca (Carl) Anderson of Sarasota, Florida, and sons David (Sharon) Hintze of Iowa City, and Howard Hintze, Iowa City. She is also survived by four grandchildren, Jeffrey (Bunny) Anderson, Savannah, GA, Robin Anderson (Rochelle Costello), Atlanta, GA, Lisa Hintze, Denver, CO, and Michele (Michael) Brandt, Iowa City; six great-grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 70 years, two brothers, Herb and Fred, two sisters, Lillian and Lydia, and a grandson, Steven Anderson.

Memorial contributions may be directed to Iowa City Hospice or Our Redeemer Lutheran Church.

The family would like to extend special thanks to the staffs of Lantern Park Nursing and Rehab Center and Iowa City Hospice for their compassionate care.

James Patrick Houlahan

James Patrick Houlahan, 69, of Cedar Rapids, died at the Dennis & Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy, Tuesday, October 12, 2010. Memorial Services: 11 a.m. Saturday at Unity Center by the Rev. Survivors include his wife, Denise; children, Carmen, Bryan, and Angela Houlahan, all of Cedar Rapids, and Theresa (Kyle) Nosley of Hiawatha; stepdaughter, Hayley Gorman of Ames; his siblings, Ricarda Patterson and Ann Houlahan, both of Coralville, Michele (Michael) Kelly of Van Horne, Linda (Dave) Bolsinger and Joeanita Houlahan, all of Cedar Rapids, Terrance Houlahan of Salt Lake City, UT, and Tom (Terri) Houlahan of Beloit, WI; six grandchildren, Felicia, Autumn, and Quinn Houlahan, Nathan and Noah Nosley and Kaelyn Hoambrecker; and one great granddaughter, Baylee. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Mary Lynn Houlahan; grandson, Elijah Mitchell; and stepson, Adam Gorman.

Jim was born June 30, 1941 in Waterloo to Richard and Anita Houlahan. He married Denise on September 25, 1993. Jim was an Army veteran; a member of the Hawkeye Bicycle club, NARFE, and a 37 year friend of Bill W. Jim retired three times; first from the US Postal Service after 28 years, serving as the Director of Mail Processing; then real estate sales at Iowa Realty; and finally from the College Community Transportation Department.

Memorials may be directed to the family or the Hospice House of Mercy.
