Dorothy I. Hotchkiss, 87, of 3414 Shasta Dr. NE, passed away Thursday, September 30, 2010, at Mercy Medical Center. Funeral Mass will be held at 11 AM Monday in St. Pius X Catholic Church. Rev. Phil Thompson will officiate. Burial in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 to 5 PM Sunday at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home with a Wake service beginning at 5 PM.
Surviving to honor her memory are three sons Steve (Rose) Hotchkiss of McGregor, Iowa, Bruce (Colleen) Hotchkiss of Clive, Iowa, and Craig (Deborah) Hotchkiss of Toddville, Iowa, a daughter Michele (Dave) Greenwood of Bettendorf, Iowa, 9 grandchildren, Michael Hotchkiss, Allan (Carrie) Hotchkiss, Katherine Fanter, Richard (Sonja) Hotchkiss, Kimberly (Aaron Schulze) Hotchkiss, Kristin Hotchkiss, Kara (Alex) Drum, Lindsey (Edward) Brezenski, and Brett Greenwood, 11 great grandchildren, a sister Virginia (Edward) Adams of Cedar Falls, Iowa, niece Tonja Adams of Appleton, Wisconsin, 3 nephews Mike, Scott, and Greg Morris, and brother in law Harold Morris of Kansas City, Missouri, She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Gerald, a sister Norma, and an infant brother at birth.
Dorothy was born November 15, 1922 in Webster City, Iowa, to Guy and Ida (Johnson) Trout. She married
Gerald R. Hotchkiss on February 19, 1943 in Iowa City, Iowa. He passed away in 1996. Dorothy was a Registered Nurse at the University of Iowa, and the Parish Nurse at St. Pius X Catholic Church, charter member of St. Pius X, and a member of PEO. She loved playing in her numerous bridge groups, and a very loyal fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes. In her early years she loved to travel, play golf, and bowling. She enjoyed her home in McGregor and boating on the Mississippi River. She looked forward to her fishing trips to Canada with her husband Gerald and son Steve.
Dorothy was always there for her family and friends when ever needed. Her caring, compassionate ways, and thoughtfulness will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Everett J. Hite

Everett J. Hite 84, of 3340 Sunburst Ave, Marion, passed away Sunday, September 26, 2010, at the Northbrook Manor Care Center in Cedar Rapids. Services will be held at 10 AM Thursday at St. Mark’s Lutheran Faith and Life Center in Marion. Entombment with military honors will be in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation with the family present will be from 4 to 8 PM Wednesday at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.
Surviving to honor his memory are his wife of 59 years Doris, three daughters Linda McCaw of Fargo, North Dakota, Donna (Patrick) Servey of Louisville, Tennessee, and Karla (David) Hite-Cliburn of Norway, Iowa, seven grandchildren, Tammy Fox, Michelle Bettels, Joseph and Jacob Servey, and Kegan, Chase, Corey, and Devri Cliburn. He was preceded in death by his parents, and two sisters.
Everett was born May 16, 1926, in Felton, Minnesota, to Henry and Gertrude (Bradford) Hite. He married
Doris Skogen on February 6, 1951 in Fargo, North Dakota. He served in the US Army during WW II and was a member of Marion American Legion Post No 298. He was a member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Faith and Life Center and the Sertoma Club. He was employed in sales for McCormick Company-Schilling Corp for over 27 years.

Viola B. Hamer

Viola B.”Vi” Hamer, 87, of 1504 E Ave. NW died Friday September 24, 2010 at Westside Care Center of cancer. Services at 11:00 AM on Tuesday at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Entombment at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 4 to 8 PM on Monday.
Survivors include a daughter, Karen Michalec and a son, Kenneth (Barb) both of Cedar Rapids. She is also survived by a daughter-in- law, Linda Hamer of Ely; four grandchildren, Amy Wignall, Rodney (Leana) Michalec, Abby (Frank) Bowman and Troy (Lisa) Michalec; five great grandchildren and several step-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, a son, William, son-in-law Frank and two sisters.
Vi was born on November 7, 1922 in St. Lawrence, South Dakota, the daughter of William and Neva Parker Sweet. She married
Allen N. Hamer on December 30, 1940 in Trenton, Missouri. He died in 1995. Vi was a homemaker. She was a member of Tops # 259, I.B.E.W Retirees and a life-time member of the VFW Auxiliary. She enjoyed crocheting, sewing, knitting, crafts and especially the time she spent with her beloved family.
A memorial fund has been established in Vi’s name.
Harold Walter Hartley
Born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa on July 4, 1946

Harold W. Hartley, 64, of Hiawatha, died August 25, 2010 in his home following a sudden illness. Inurnment will be at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.
Surviving are his sister Barbara Tharp of Des Moines; niece Ginger Arnburg and her three daughters Jasmine, Hailey and Lacey all of Des Moines; nephew Wyatt Tharp of Illinois and his daughter Daja; nephew Cody Tharp of West Des Moines; as well as several close friends and extended family.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Harold Walter Hartley was born July 4, 1946 in Cedar Rapids the son of Harold R. and Harriet (Longstreth) Hartley. He graduated from Cedar Rapids Jefferson High School and later attended Kirkwood Community College. He served his country honorably in the United States Navy receiving the National Defense Service Medal and Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal for his service in the Dominican Republic. He went on to serve 2 years in the Naval Reserve. He was employed for several years at Midland Forge, and received an award for 10 years of safe working in 1993. He was a longtime member of the National Rifle Association, and enjoyed target shooting at the Linn County Izaak Walton League in Cedar Rapids. He had several awards for practical shooting from the Black Hawk and Cedar Rapids Area Practical Shooters. He also had a great love for his cats.

Rosemary Emma Hines

Rosemary Emma Hines, 83, of Cedar Rapids, died August 18, 2010 at Keystone Cedars Care Center with her family at her side. Funeral Mass 10:30 AM Saturday, August 21, 2010 at St. Matthew’s Catholic Church. Rev. David Beckman will officiate. Friends may call Friday from 4 to 8 PM at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home with a rosary service starting at 4 PM. Friends may also call at the church after 9:30 AM on Saturday. Interment in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
Survivors include her son John Hines of Edina, MN, daughter Michelle "Mimi" Myers and husband Jamie of Cedar Rapids, son Joe Hines and wife Edie of Cedar Rapids, son Tom Hines and wife Judy of Tucson, AZ, son Tim Hines and wife Sheryl of Cedar Rapids, son Dan Hines and Molly Power of Cedar Rapids, and daughter Sarah Remerowski and husband Mike of Cedar Rapids; 12 grandchildren, Amy (Brian) Hogan, Charlie (Aubrey) Myers, Nathan (Michelle) Hines, Damon (Alicia) Hines, Dana Hines, John Hines, James Hines, Kelly (Jay) Hines, Kai Hines, Casey (Shannon) Hines, Brayden Remerowski, and Grant Remerowski; 17 great grandchildren; sisters Marian Sheehan of Baltimore, MD, Rita Treinen of Sioux City, IA, and LeVern Kelly of Long Beach, CA; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband John “Jack” Hines, infant daughter Mary Ellen Hines, parents, and 3 brothers Joe, Thomas, and Louis Lieb.
Rosemary Emma Lieb was born November 23, 1926 in Mitchell, SD the beloved daughter of Gearhardt Aloysious and Ida Rose (Sauer) Lieb. She was united in marriage to John “Jack” Hines on August 24, 1949 in Sioux City, Iowa. Jack preceded her in death on February 6, 2007. Rosemary retired from Sears after 30 years of service in the sales and credit department but always said her most treasured memories were spent staying home with her children.
She was a member of St. Matthew’s Catholic Church. She enjoyed shopping with her daughters, collecting and restoring antiques, upholstering, sewing, playing bridge, and staying active in both All Saints and St. Matthew’s Catholic Churches.
The Hines family would like to thank the entire Keystone staff, Mercy Hospice, Dr. Nick Morio, and Father Mark Osterhaus for their special care of Rosemary.

Vlasta Huston

Vlasta Huston, 94, died Tuesday, August 17th, at the Hiawatha Care Center, after a long illness. Services will be held at 11 AM Saturday in Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Rev. Ed Powers of Asbury United Methodist Church will officiate. The family will greet friends from 10 AM to service time on Saturday at the chapel. Burial in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Survivors include her children, Carol (Tom) Wisnousky of West Des Moines, John E. (Sherren) Huston of Cedar Rapids, and Jim Huston of Springfield, IL. three grandchildren, Ted (Lisa) Wisnousky, Cathy and Cindy Huston; and four great-grandchildren, Ryan, Tyler, Kayla, and Jake. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers Vladimir and John, her husband Marv, and her grandson Daniel Wisnousky.
Vlasta was born September 30, 1915, in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of John and Frances Manak. She graduated from Grant High School. She married
Marv Huston on November 7, 1936. They were married
for 34 years at the time of his death in 1971.
Vlasta was a wonderful mother, working tirelessly for her family. She loved working outside in her yard and playing cards with friends. She enjoyed cooking and baking, especially kolaches. She was employed for a time at Killian’s Department Store. She was a member of Sokol, ZCBJ, Western Fraternal Lodge 262, Ambar Grotto, the Shrine Auxiliary, and the Pautz Fellowship Group.
The family would like to thank the staffs of the Promise House and the Hiawatha Care Center for their care of Vlasta in her final days.
