Mercedes H. Janda 90, of 1802 Mallory St. SW, died Monday, January 26, 2004, at her daughter's home in Warrenton, Missouri, following a short illness. Services at 10 AM Friday in Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. Rev. Will Jackson of Hus Memorial Presbyterian Church will officiate. Burial in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Funeral Home from 5 to 7 PM on Thursday and at the chapel after 9:30 AM on Friday.
Survivors include a son Jon and wife JoAnn "Jodie" of Cedar Rapids, a daughter Sally McLuckie and husband Steve of Warrenton, Missouri, a brother Jack Shoberg and wife Gerry of Edina, Minnesota, five grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and 7 brothers and sisters.
Mercedes was born December 16, 1913, in Minneapolis, Minnesota to Anthony and Irene Flow Shoberg. She married
Wesley J. Janda on November 18, 1933 in Rock Island, Illinois. He died November 7, 1994. She was a secretary for the Cedar Rapids Community Schools from 1955 to 1977. She was a member of Hus Memorial Presbyterian Church. She enjoyed quilting, baking, golfing, and gardening. She especially enjoyed socializing with her family and friends.

Karen R. Jackson, 63, 3918 Wenig Rd NE died Thursday, March 4, 2004 at St. Luke's Hospital following a brief illness. Services: 1:00 P.M. Monday at Lovely Lane United Methodist Church. Burial: Bethel United Methodist Church cemetery in Wildwood, MO. Friends may call from 5 to 7 PM Sunday at Cedar Memorial Funeral Home. The Rev. Brian Milford of Lovely Lane United Methodist Church will officiate.
Surviving in addition to her husband Dean are four daughters, Linda Sears of Madison, MO, Donna McPherson of St. Louis, MO, Marjorie Conway of Mt. Vernon, IL, and Cindy Hale of Indianapolis, IN; and a sister, Ruth Carey of Cedar Rapids.
Also surviving are 10 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Kathryn Ann Jones

Kathryn Ann Jones: 52, 3 Jensen Court, Iowa City, died Thursday afternoon, March 25, at Heritage Nursing and Rehab Center, following a lengthy illness.
Services will be held Monday, March 29 at 11:00 a.m. at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Cedar Rapids with Rev. Lynn Thiede officiating. Burial will be in Cedar Memorial Park cemetery in Cedar Rapids. Friends may call at the Cedar Memorial Funeral Home from 2 to 4 p.m. on Sunday and at the church after 10 a.m. on Monday.
Kathryn is survived by her husband, William and her two children, Brett and Allison all of Iowa City, a brother, Tom Yock and wife Jane of Hiawatha and a sister Jayne Billington and husband John of Santa Rosa, California, a brother in law, Doug Jones and wife Marsha of Cedar Falls and a sister in law, Janet Halley and husband Randy of Nixa, Missouri and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. Kathryn was preceded in death by her cocker spaniel, Toby.
Kathryn was born January 18, 1952 in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of Clarence and Geri Dirks Yock. She was a graduate of Washington High School and received her Associate of Arts degree from Kirkwood Community College. Kathryn married
William Jones on April 16, 1977 at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Cedar Rapids. Kathryn worked as a teacher's associate in both the Waterloo and Iowa City community school districts assisting special needs students. She was a past member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church and more recently Zion Lutheran Church in Iowa City. Kathryn was a loving mother and wife her family took precedence over everything else. She was an excellent seamstress and enjoyed making clothes for her children and even Toby, the cocker spaniel. She also thoroughly enjoyed creating baby quilts for her family and friends. Her home was a place of great activity for the neighborhood kids. Kathryn was also quite a collector specializing in Precious Moments, Boyd's Bears and Christmas ornaments. She also enjoyed working in her flower gardens. Her most recent passion was Iowa Hawkeye football watching her daughter in the U of I Hawkeye Marching Band.

Sam S. Johnson, 88, 177 Sedgeford S.E., died Saturday at Mercy Hallmar. Services: 11 a.m. Wednesday at the First Presbyterian Church by Rev. Larry Hayward. Private family interment will take place prior to the memorial service at the church. Friends may call at the Cedar Memorial Funeral Home from 4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Tuesday.
Surviving is his wife Joanne, 2 sons, Tom Johnson and wife Vicki of Snow Camp, North Carolina and Sam Jr. and wife Pam Erusha Johnson of Cedar Rapids, grandchildren, Julie Johnson of San Francisco and Tim and Ben E. Johnson of Cedar Rapids. Also surviving is a sister-in-law, Letha Rickert of Davenport, Iowa.
Surviving are step-children, Richard Theresa Looker and Martin Looker of Springfield, Missouri, and Jane Looker of Cedar Rapids, and step-grandchildren, Rachel Looker and Matthew Looker, both of Springfield, Missouri.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Oliver and Clare Skinner Johnson and his first wife, Mary.
Sam was born on November 6, 1915 in Cedar Rapids and was married
to Mary Rickert in 1942, in Waterloo. She preceded him in death in 1976. He was then married
to Joanne Looker in1985 in Door County, Wisconsin.
He served as Captain in World War II with the 11th Armored Division from 1942 - 1946 under George Patton in the European Theatre. He graduated from Washington High School in 1934 and from the University of Iowa in 1938 in the School of Commerce. While at the University of Iowa, he was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity, lettered in all sports, and was Captain of the University's basketball team in 1936 and 1938.
After returning from the war, he re-joined Russell Knapp as partner of the Knapp Johnson Investment Company, later known as Securities Corporation of Iowa. He then joined Allen Olds Cadillac as sales manager in 1949 and at the time of his death was Chairman of Allen Motor Company.
Sam was a member of the First Presbyterian Church. He was also on the board of directors of City National Bank, Mercy Medical Center, and was a life long member and supporter of the YMCA where he was a charter member of the Y's Men's Club. He was also a board member and past president of the Cedar Rapids Country Club in 1973.
In lieu of flowers, friends may, if they wish, make contributions in the name of Sam S. Johnson to the First Presbyterian Church or the Mercy Medical Center Foundation.
Ann Helena Johnson

Ann H. Johnson, 85, of 316 11th Street NW, died at St. Luke's Hospital, Sunday, April 18, 2004, after a short illness. Burial: Private burial at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will be present for a visitation at Turner West Funeral Home Wednesday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Survivors include a daughter Shirley Burnett of Cedar Rapids; two sons, Mark Fran Woodward of Monticello, and David Donna Woodward of Cedar Rapids; nine grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Ann was preceded in death by her parents, five brothers, two sisters, and a granddaughter.
Born August 1, 1918 in Noonan, North Dakota Ann married
Mark Woodward on June 4, 1938. They were later divorced. She then married
Oscar Johnson in Cedar Rapids on December 20, 1974. He died in 1988. Ann worked as a junior accountant at Rockwell Collins for many years before retiring.

Edward R. Janes, 91, 6420 Council St. NE died Tuesday, June 29, 2004 at Northbrook Manor Care Center following a long illness. Services: 3:00 P.M. Thursday at Trinity Lutheran Church. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call from 7PM to 9PM Wednesday at Turner Chapel West. The Rev. Parker Knoll will officiate.
Surviving are two daughters, Lola Reisner of Cedar Rapids and Shirley DeBrower of Grinnell; two brothers, Charles Janes of Stewartsville, PA and Arnold Janes of Belle Plaine; a sister, Betty Gilbert of Belle Plaine; 5 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; and 3 great great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Helen; three brothers, Elmer Janes, Wilbur Janes and Lyle Janes; and a sister, Mildred Walters.
Edward was born November 2, 1912 in Belle Plaine the son of Lester and Ida Nemecek Janes. He married
Helen Shurtz on October 10, 1936 in Marshalltown. He worked for the City of Cedar Rapids in the Parks Department for 12 years. Edward was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and the American Legion in Central City. He served in the U.S. Navy during WW II.

Quinta "Peg" Jestice, 89, of Silver Pines Assisted Living and Retirement Community, died there Thursday, July 1, 2004, after a brief illness. Services: 9 a.m. Saturday at St. Pius X Catholic Church by the Rev. David O'Connor. Burial: 12 p.m. at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Dubuque. Friends may call after 8:30 a.m. Saturday at the church. Cedar Memorial Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include a son Ronald Lou Jestice of Austin, TX; three daughters, Karen Thomas Hetznecker of Eagan, MN, Janet Bert Evans of Downer's Grove, IL, and Carol David Keese of Cedar Rapids; two sisters, Connie Charles Kutsch of Dubuque, and Sr. Joan Puls of Milwaukee, WI.; seven grandchildren, and five great grandchildren.
Peg was preceded in death by her husband Vincent and a son, Vincent.
Born June 5, 1915 in Louisburg, WI, to Clement and Theresa Puls, Peg married
Vincent Jestice in Sinsinawa, WI on June 5, 1935. He died in 1990.
She was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church, Dubuque, St. Pius X Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids, the Rosary Society and Catholic Daughters.
