Dr. John Paul Jacobs, 76, of Cedar Rapids, died Saturday, October 21, 2006, at Hallmar Care Center from complications of Parkinson's disease. A funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 AM Tuesday at St. Pius X Catholic Church with Rev. Donald Klein officiating. In keeping with his dedication to medicine, at his request his body will be donated to the University of Iowa. Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Funeral Home from 4 to 7 PM on Monday with a scriptural wake service beginning at 7 PM.
John "Jake" was born July 12, 1930 in Clinton, Iowa the son of Harry and Mary Mullahey Jacobs. He married
Marion Degnan on June 26, 1954, in St. Mary's Church in Guttenberg, Iowa.
They have six children, Anne Johnson Scott, Dr. John M. Jacobs Dr. Kristen, Dr. Brian Jacobs Julie, Tom Jacobs Julie, Patti Hein Kevin, and Lynn Malik John Paul, and fourteen loving grandchildren.
John was a compassionate and devoted board certified family physician in Cedar Rapids for over 37 years. During his career he served as President of the Medical Staff at Mercy Medical Center. He also devoted time and talent as the team physician for LaSalle High School for over 25 years. In 1988, he was inducted into the IHSAA Hall of Fame for his service. During retirement he volunteered at the Free Medical Clinic. He was a member of St. Matthew Catholic Church. He served as a lst Lt. with the US Airforce during the Korean Conflict as a navigator and flight instructor. He had a strong faith, a love of music, and celebrated his Irish heritage as evidenced by his quick wit and love for his family and friends.

Laura A. Jackson

Laura A. Jackson, age 90, of Marion, died Wednesday, July 11, 2007 of a long illness. Visitation will be Friday, July 13, 2007 at the Cedar Memorial Funeral Home from 4PM to 7PM. Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 14, 2007 at 3PM in Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories with Vicki Standley of Marion First United Methodist officiating. Burial will take place at the Cedar Memorial Park cemetery following the funeral services.
Survivors include daughter; Alice McCormick Larry of Marion, son; Jerry Findlay Marilyn of Troy Mills, Iowa, daughter; Debra Smith Jim of Sierra Vista, Arizona, daughter; Denise Willhite Brad of Cedar Rapids, sisters; Peg Ware, Mary Duden, and Audrey Blew all of Ottumwa, Iowa, nine grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and special friend Jim Jordan of Marion.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, George Jackson, three brothers and one sister.
Laura was born to Clarence and Alice Hunt Munn on June 21, 1917 in Davis County, Iowa. She was united in marriage with George Jackson on March 23, 1957 in Kirksville, Missouri. Laura was employed at Rockwell Collins in the paint shop and also at St. Luke's as a physical therapy aide. She was a frequent blood donor at St. Luke's, and was proud to help others with her donations. Laura spent her free time camping, crocheting, sewing, collecting cardinals and salt and pepper shakers. She was a avid sports fan, following the Chicago Cubs and the Iowa Hawkeye's.
The family would like to express their appreciation to the staff at Willow Gardens and Mercy Hospice.

Eulalia Iva Johnson

Eulalia I. Johnson, 83, of 1379 Hertz Drive SE, died December 4, 2009 following a short illness. Funeral services will be held 1:00 PM, Tuesday, December 8, 2009 at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Rev. Mel Ramos of Hus Memorial Presbyterian Church will officiate. Friends may call from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM, Monday, December 7, 2009 at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. Burial will take place at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Surviving are her three daughters, Nannette Hogan of Cedar Rapids, Pamela Yoder and husband Gary of Swisher, and Patricia Koopman and husband Terry of Cedar Rapids; sisters, Nina Mayer and husband Lauren McAllister of Cedar Rapids, and Ileta Faldet of Decorah; a step son, Jerry Johnson of Arkansas; her beloved dog, Whitney; several step-grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and extended family members.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Lyle, her son Douglas, a brother Palmer Martens, and son-in-law Jon Hogan.
Eulalia was born December 12, 1925 in rural Postville, the daughter of Lester and Lillian (Hines) Martens. She was united in marriage to Lyle R. Johnson on November 20, 1944 in Rock Island, IL. She worked at Collins Radio for 20 years, and later was a teacher’s assistant at St. Jude Catholic School. She spent many years following retirement volunteering many hours to countless organizations. She was a member of Hus Memorial Presbyterian Church where she was involved with a bible study group. She also was involved with the Red Hat Society. She enjoyed gardening and animals. Above all her greatest enjoyment was time spent with her family. She was a loving mother, sister, grandmother and friend who will be greatly missed.

Cledythe “Kelly” Jelinek, 85, of 4124 Lexington Drive NE, died at the Hiawatha Care Center, Friday, November 20, 2009. Memorial Service: 10:30 a.m. December 5, 2009 at Trinity Lutheran Church by the Rev. Jonathan Offt. Inurnment: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. A visitation will be held on Friday, December 4, 2009 at Cedar Memorial Westside Chapel where friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m.
Kelly is survived by children, David Jelinek of Cedar Rapids, Jalice “Jill” Taylor of West Branch, and William (Stephanie) Jelinek of Shellsburg; sister, Dorothy Combs of Edina, MN; and five grandchildren, Megan and Matthew Taylor, Abby, Samantha, and Nathan Jelinek. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, William; brother, Eugene Ruff; and sister, Delle Bryant.
Kelly was born on February 5, 1924 in Keystone to Walter and Rosetta Ruff. She married
Bill Jelinek on March 31, 1947 in Sioux City, Iowa. He died in 1982. She was a secretary for Lattner Mfg. for many years. Kelly was an avid golfer, bowler, miniaturist and cross stitcher.
Memorials may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church, St. Luke’s Hospice or the American Heart Association.
The family would like to thank the Hiawatha Care Center, St. Luke’s Hospice, and St. Luke’s Four West for their recent care of Kelly.

Marlette Jensen, 76, of Cedar Rapids passed away on Saturday, December 12, 2009 at Cottage Grove Place, Cedar Rapids. Funeral services will be held at 9:00 AM on Wednesday, December 16, 2009 at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Rev. Carol Sundberg will officiate with private family burial in Lowman Cemetery, Runnells, IA. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 PM Tuesday at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.
Survivors include her sister Karen (Doug) Dutz of Springfield, IL; four nieces Dana (Bob) Bowdish, Kara Washam, Kelly Purlee, and Amy (Galen) Seaman; and five great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents Martin and Faye Jensen.
Marlette was born January 2, 1933 in Grand Mound, the daughter of Martin and Faye (Heiny) Jensen. She retired as Assistant Vice President with Merchants National Bank in Cedar Rapids after 40 years of service, opening the Collins office branch as manager. Marlette was very active in the community. She was a member of the Cedar Rapids St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, S.C.O.R.E. receiving the platinum award, Chamber of Commerce, AIB, as well as the Woman’s Organization of AIB. She volunteered with the Cedar Rapids Symphony, Theatre Cedar Rapids, and KCCK.

Christina M. Johnson, 65, of 360 Park Terrace SE. died Tuesday February 16, 2010 at the Meth-Wick Community from complications of Alzheimer’s. Memorial services at 1:00 PM on Friday at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Inurnment at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 5 to 8 PM on Thursday.
Survivors include her husband, Dr. Donald, two sons, Anthony Johnson, stationed with the U.S. Marines in Afghanistan, Joshua Johnson of Portland, Oregon and a step-son, Benjamin (JoAnne) Johnson of Trumbull, Connecticut; a grandson, Jeremiah of Charlotte, North Carolina; her mother, Suzanna Doorduijn, three sisters, Els (Ben) Caljouw-van der Vorm, Anneke (Ton) van Santen-van der Vorm, and Marian van der Vorm; three brothers, Otto (Mieke) van der Vorm, Kees (Nel) van der Vorm, and Rex (Maaike) van der Vorm all of the Netherlands. She was preceded in death by her father.
Christina was born on March 10, 1944 in The Hague, Netherlands, the daughter of Jacobus and Suzanna van der Vorm. Christina immigrated to the United States to New York when she turned twenty one. She was employed as a nanny for several families with whom she has maintained contact over the years. She later moved to Iowa and married
Leo Klodt and lived in Perry until his death. She moved to Iowa City where she met and married
Dr. Donald Johnson on November 28, 1981. She graduated from Kirkwood Community College with a degree as an Orthopedic Physicians Assistant.
Christina enjoyed classical music, was very proud to be an American and was an avid gardener, planting over 1000 tulips at her home. She was a wonderful wife and mother who will be greatly missed by all who knew her. “ The family would like to thank the staff at Meth-Wick; Kelly, Cindy, Dondee, Keely, Jenny and Shannon and Christina’s long-time caregiver, Shelly Benson for the loving and compassionate care they provided.”
