Emma Arlene Johnson, 88, of Cedar Rapids, died March 16, 2013 at Northbrook Manor Care Center surrounded by her loving family after a courageous battle with cancer. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM Wednesday, March 20, 2013 at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. The family will greet friends Tuesday, March 19, 2013 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. Interment will be held at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
She is survived by her husband of 34 years James Johnson of Cedar Rapids; a daughter Deb (Jerry) Durgin of Mount Vernon; two sons, Gary Anderson of Cedar Rapids; Larry (Sandy) Anderson of Perry, Missouri; two step-daughters, Susan Faulkner of Cedar Rapids; Jean (William) Millkey of Atlanta, Georgia; a step-son Charles (Mary) Johnson of Robins; two sisters Margaret Stange of Iowa City; Marie Hassellbush of, Geneseo Illinois; 10 grandchildren; and 5 great-grandchildren.
Arlene was preceded in death by her parents, first husband Clifford Melvin “Andy” Anderson who passed July 24, 1960; five brothers and two sisters.
Arlene Johnson was born on August 15, 1924 the daughter of Glenn and Leona (Montgomery) Freeman in Shellsburg, Iowa. She graduated from High School in Walker, Iowa. She was united in marriage to James Johnson on May 6, 1978. Arlene was a Sunday School Teacher for Trinity Methodist Church, a choir member for the Calvin Sinclair Presbyterian Church, and a life long member of the Easter Star in Cedar Rapids. She enjoyed golfing, bowling, and time with her family and friends. Arlene was a loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend to all.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
The family would like to send a special thanks to the staff at Northbrook Manor Care Center and Hospice of Mercy.

Sam C. Jelinek, 23, of Cedar Rapids, died Friday March 22, 2013. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday at Parlor City Pub and Eatery, Cedar Rapids. Private graveside services will be held at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Survivors include his parents, Jon and Valerie Jelinek, of Cedar Rapids, his brothers, Nick (Steph) Jelinek and niece, Camilla, Ben Jelinek, his sister, Madison Jelinek, his grandparents; Judy Chalupsky, Charles and Norine Jelinek and his best friend, Zach Becker all of Cedar Rapids. He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Clay Chalupsky and his uncle, Kevin Jelinek.
Sam was born May 23, 1989 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the son of Jon and Valerie Chalupsky Jelinek. He graduated from Xavier High School in 2007. He worked for the family business of Jelinek Companies.
Sam was a kind and thoughtful person whose family was very important to him. Quiet and reserved, he would let his wry sense of humor show with a twinkle in his eye. He was an avid sports fan, with the Chicago Bears, Iowa Hawkeyes and Chelsea soccer team among his favorites. He loved watching ultimate fighting, “It’s always sunny in Philadelphia” and Stephen Colbert with his good friend Zach.
Sam was a skilled writer, uniquely able to express his inner thoughts. To read him was to know him. Sam was deeply loved by his parents and family. He left us too soon.

Maxine (Elizabeth) Jones

Maxine (Elizabeth) Jones, 79, of Heritage Nursing and Rehab, died on Wednesday, December 3, 2008, at Mercy Medical Center, after a sudden illness. Services: 11 a.m. Monday at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories by the Rev. Brenda Ehret . Entombment: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. A visitation will be held on Sunday at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 2 to 5 p.m. and after 10:30 Monday at the Chapel.
Maxine is survived by three sons, Robert (Pam) Jones of Solon, Raymond (Phyllis) Jones of Cedar Rapids, and Phillip (Joan) Jones, of Amana; daughter, Rose (Don) Bents of Cedar Rapids; sister, Viola Stephens of Missouri Valley; three brothers, Bernard McHugh of Gaza, Sylvester McHugh of Magnolia, and Kenneth McHugh of Logan; eleven grandchildren; and six great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Alvin in June, 2008; an infant sister, Betty Ann; sister, Shirley McHugh; and three brothers, Roger, Roland, and Royal McHugh.
Maxine was born on April 29, 1929 in Harrison County to John and Eva McHugh. She married
Alvin Dewayne Jones on June 23, 1957 in Logan, Iowa. She liked playing cards with her friends. In earlier years, she babysat for children in her neighborhood. She loved horses. She was the perfect homemaker; cooking, cleaning and keeping her house for her family.
Instead of flowers, a memorial fund has been established for the Alzheimer’s Association.
Donald Van Horn Johnson

Donald V. Johnson, 76, of Cedar Rapids, died November 19, 2008 at Willow Gardens Care Center, Marion, following an extended illness. Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM, Saturday, November 22, 2008 at Lovely Lane United Methodist Church. Rev. Paul Wilcox will officiate. Military honors will performed by American Legion Hanford Post #5. Internment will be held at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM, Friday, November 21, 2008 at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home, where a Masonic service will take place at 7:00 PM by Bruce Lodge # 665 A.F. & A.M.
Survivors include wife Vivian; his children Amy Pollitt and husband James of Belmond, and son Mark Johnson of Cedar Rapids; grandson Damon Haberkorn and wife Jamie of Cedar Rapids; as well as numerous cousins and close friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Richard W. Johnson, and daughter in law Janet Johnson.
Donald Van Horn Johnson was born December 5, 1931 in Decorah the son of Alfred and Dorothy (Van Horn) Johnson. He attended the University of Iowa, where he lettered in baseball. He served his country honorably in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. He was united in marriage to Vivian Tippie on June 9, 1957 in Belle Plaine. With his family, he owned and operated the Terrace Room, Coffee Shop, and Lounge at the Cedar Rapids Airport. He was later employed for several years at Midwest Foods, and volunteered as crossing guard for Wright Elementary School. He was a member of Bruce Lodge # 665 A.F. & A.M., Cedar Rapids Consistory, El Kahir Shrine, the El Kahir Chanters club, and the Hawkeye Camping Club with his wife. He was also a longtime member of Lovely Lane United Methodist Church. He was an avid golfer and outdoorsman, particularly hunting and trout fishing. He loved music, and as a soloist, he touched many hearts with his talent. He was a lifelong fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes and Chicago Cubs. Above all, his greatest enjoyment was his time spent with his loving family and close friends. He will be greatly missed.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Don’s name may be made to the Shriners Children’s Hospitals, or to Lovely Lane United Methodist Church.
Lucille Beatrice Jordan

Lucille B. Jordan, 94, a longtime resident of Coggon and Cedar Rapids, died September 22, 2008 at St. Luke's Hospital following a short illness. Funeral Services will be held 11:00 AM, Saturday, September 27, 2008 at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Rev. James Goodrich of First Baptist Church, Church of the Brethren will officiate. Friends may call from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM, Friday, September 26, 2008 at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. Interment will take place at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Survivors include her daughters Joanne Jordan of Cedar Rapids, and Marlys Elliott and husband Brian of Thompson, CT; grandchildren Randal Henderson and wife Judy of Petersburg, AK, Dean Henderson of Delhi, Timothy Henderson and wife Linda of Center Point, Luther Elliott and wife Donna of Brooklyn, NY, Noah Elliott of Thompson, CT, and Jordan Elliott of Danielson, CT; great grandchildren Susan and Angela Henderson of Petersburg, AK, and Alexis, Benjamin, and Abigail Elliott of Thompson, CT; sisters Alice Richardson of Cedar Rapids and Loretta Anderson of Lamont; as well as a large extended family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Adrian, sons Donald and Lyle, brothers Merlyn and Charles, and sisters Opal and Jean.
Lucille Beatrice Jordan was born February 23, 1914 in Iowa County, Iowa the daughter of Alva and Martha McKusker McGuire. She was united in marriage to Adrian Jordan on December 21, 1932 in Cedar Rapids. She and her husband farmed for over 40 years near Coggon and Central City. They mostly farmed crops, dairy, and hogs. They truly were sustainable agriculturalists. She was a self educated bible scholar who taught bible classes in many venues. She was a founding member of Eastview Christian Church, and is today a member of the First Baptist Church, Church of the Brethren. She was also a member of the Quality Ridge Women's Club. Her greatest treasure was her family and friends. She was blessed to enjoy to the end, her rich and bountiful life.
Memorial Donations in Lucille's honor may be made to the American Cancer Society, or to First Baptist Church, Church of the Brethren.

Survivors include two daughters, Patricia McDowell Bud of Cedar Rapids and Lynda Wild of Clear Lake; a grandson, Brian Wise; a granddaughter, Amy Wise; five great grandchildren, Blake Wise, Alex Wise, Joshua Wise, Zakk Wise and Quinn Wise; several step-children and step-grandchildren; and all of her good friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Robert; a grandson, John Wise; two sisters and two brothers.
Janice was born July 7, 1920 in Miltonville the daughter of Henry and Leona Mae Wiley Larson. She married
Robert Wild on July 20, 1941 in Cedar Rapids. She was a member of St. James United Methodist Church, the church choir and several church groups.
A memorial fund has been established.
