Born in Dubuque, Iowa on September 23, 1921
Departed on April 27, 2004. Resided in Lindale, TX.

Merle V. Konzen, 82, of Lindale, TX. formerly of Cedar Rapids, died Tuesday, April 27, 2004 at Mother Francis Hospital in Tyler, TX after a short illness. Graveside services at 10 AM on Monday at the Cedar Memorial Park cemetery where there will also be military rites. There will be no visitation. Cedar Memorial Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include a daughter, Karmen Fullam and her husband, John, of Lindale, TX. He is also survived by a step grandson, Michael Fullam.
Merle was born on Sept. 23, 1921 in Dubuque, the son of Paul and Mayme Dryer Konzen. He married Florence M. Fisher on April 9, 1947 in Cedar Rapids. She died in 1997. Merle was a nuclear physicist for Iowa Electric Light and Power Co. and retired from there after 38 years of service. He was a member of the First Congregational Church and served in the Air Force during WWII. Memorial donations may be given to the charity of the donor's choice in Merle's name. Military rites by American Legion Hanford Post No. 5.

Richard Kuhl
Born in Ogden, Iowa on December 19, 1928
Departed on April 19, 2004. Resided in Cedar Rapids, IA.

Richard 'Dick' V. Kuhl, 75, of 439 23rd Street NW, died at the University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics, Monday, April 19, 2004 after a long illness. Services: 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Jude Catholic Church by the Rev. Donald Czapla. Burial: St. Joseph Cemetery. Friends may call today at Turner West Funeral Home from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. where a vigil service will be held at 7:00 p.m.
Survivors include his wife Carol; a daughter Janet Khader and husband Osama of Cedar Rapids; two grandchildren, Mitchell and Amanda; and a brother Donald Kuhl and wife Pauline of Pilot Mound.

Frank Vernon King Sr.
Born in Cedar Rapids on October 27, 1916

Frank Vernon King, Sr., 87, of 250 24th Street NW died Monday, February 9, 2004, in his home following a short illness. Memorial services at 11 AM Wednesday in Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. Rev. Carroll Brown of St. Mark's Methodist Church will officiate. Inurnment in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call at the chapel after 10 AM on Wednesday. Arrangements by Cedar Memorial Funeral Home.
Survivors include his wife of over 66 years Ellen, two daughters Sharon Waters and Janice Santee and husband Bob, and a son Frank King Jr. and wife Jane all of Cedar Rapids, two brothers Francis King and wife Betty, and Edward King and wife Marlene all of Cedar Rapids, two sisters Helen Hovey and husband Dick of Cedar Rapids, and Wilhemina Fuchs of Naples, Florida, seven grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, and a sister in law Joanna King of Cedar Rapids. He was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers William and Curtis.
Frank was born October 27, 1916 in Cedar Rapids to William and Effie McArthur King. He married Ellen Webrand on January 7, 1938 in Cedar Rapids. He owned and operated Kings Barbershop for 25 years. He was a member of Mizpah Masonic Lodge and the Goodfellows.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Boys and Girls Club of Cedar Rapids, 1501 Ellis Blvd. NW, Cedar Rapids, 52405.

Thomas C. Knutson
Born in Decorah, Iowa on November 22, 1948
Departed on August 18, 2003. Resided in Cedar Rapids, IA.

Thomas C. Knutson, 54 of 150 Thompson Dr. SE died Monday, Aug. 18, 2003 at St. Luke's Hospital after a brief illness. Services at 2 PM on Sat. at the Madison Lutheran Church in Ridgeway where Tom was baptized and confirmed. Revs. Phillip and Ginny Olson will officiate. Burial at the Church Cemetery. Friends may call at the Cedar Memorial Funeral Home from 4 to 8 PM on Friday where there will be a prayer service at 7:30 PM. There will also be a visitation at the Madison Lutheran Church after 12:30 PM on Sat.
Survivors include his parents, Clair and Helen Knutson of Ridgeway, his fianc?, Beth Washler and her daughters, Sarah and Molly and Tom's step daughter, Lee Pietzsch of Des Moines. He is also survived by several aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by a sister, Corrine.
Tom was born on Nov. 22, 1948 in Decorah the son of Clair and Helen Helgeson Knutson. He graduated from High School in Decorah and the University of Iowa in 1973. Tom was the National Account Sales Manager at Amana Refrigeration for 28 years. He was a member of First Lutheran Church, the Cedar Rapids Country Club, the Association of Retarded Citizens, where he was actively involved and Phi Kappa Epsilon. Tom was an avid Hawkeye fan, enjoyed golf, crossword puzzles and all sports. He will be greatly missed by his family and many friends. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to the charity of the donor's choice in Tom's name.

PFC David Michael Kirchhoff

PFC David Michael Kirchhoff, 31, of Anamosa, formerly of Cedar Rapids, died Thursday, August 14, 2003, in Landstuhl Army Regional Medical Center, Landstuhl, Germany. Services with military honors at 10:30 AM Thursday in Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. Rev. Dan Clark-Bridges of Hope Lutheran Church will officiate. Burial in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Funeral Home from 5 to 9 PM on Wednesday and at the chapel after 9:30 AM on Thursday.
Survivors include his wife Brooke, two sons David Michael Kirchhoff Jr. of Cedar Rapids, and Sean Patrick Lekin of Boone, Iowa, three step-daughters Ashley RaeAnne, Aubrey Jo, and April Rain all of Anamosa, his parents Larry and Nancy Kirchhoff of Cedar Rapids, one brother Shawn Cecil of Louisville, Kentucky, and a half brother Michael Cecil of Louisville, Kentucky, two sisters Dawn Kirchhoff of Oelwein and Denise Kirchhoff of Cedar Rapids, and several nieces, nephews, and in-laws.
David was born April 12, 1972 in Dubuque, Iowa. He graduated from Metro High School in Cedar Rapids in 1992. He married Brooke Zimmerman on April 19, 2003, at Black River Falls, Wisconsin. He was a truck driver serving with the Iowa Army National Guard Detachment 1, 2168th Transportation Company in Cedar Rapids, serving in Iraq. He was also a truck driver for Linn Star Transfer Inc.
David was a loving husband, devoted father to his sons and his stepdaughters, a loving son and a supportive brother. He was an avid Green Bay Packers fan.
Instead of flowers a memorial fund has been established.

Richard ''Rich'' Albert King, Jr.
Born in Cedar Rapids, IA. on July 7, 1975
Departed on July 26, 2003. Resided in Ely, IA.

Richard Albert 'Rich' King Jr., 28, of Ely, died Saturday, July 26, 2003, in the Methodist Hospital in Des Moines following a sudden illness. A celebration of life service will be held at 3 PM Thursday in Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. Inurnment in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Funeral Home from 5 to 8 PM on Wednesday and at the chapel after 2:30 PM on Thursday.
Survivors include his father Richard King and wife Stacey and mother Brenda King and husband Lloyd Frederick all of Cedar Rapids, his fianc? Emily Brown of Ely, three sisters Dawn Conway and husband Josh and Amy King all of Cedar Rapids, and Robin Paquin and husband Phil of Nashua, New Hampshire, two brothers Gabriel Frederick of Minneapolis, Minnesota and Patrick Frederick of Cedar Rapids, his paternal grandparents Mr. And Mrs. Richard L. King and maternal grandparents Mr. And Mrs. Ron Sherwood all of Cedar Rapids.
Rich was born July 7, 1975 in Cedar Rapids. He was a self employed D. J. He loved music and was an accomplished Techno D. J. He greatly loved animals especially chickens and his dog. He was a unique and independent person. His wishes were for everyone to come casual. There will be an opportunity for all to participate.
Rich will be greatly missed by all who know and loved him.
Instead of flowers a memorial fund has been established.

Edward W. Kemme Jr.
Born in Cedar Rapids on February 5, 1917
Departed on March 1, 2003. Resided in Cedar Rapids, IA.

Edward W. Kemme Jr., 86, of 1015 F Ave NW, passed away Saturday, March 1, 2003, in Mercy medical Center following a brief illness. Services at 3 PM Wednesday in Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories by Pastor Jay Jentink of Calvary Baptist Church.
Burial in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call at the chapel after 2:30 PM on Wednesday. Arrangements by Cedar Memorial Funeral Home.
Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Kathryn, a son Terry and daughter-in-law Bonnie Dodge, one sister, Shirley J.B. Richter, one nephew, Robert Angie Richter of Rochester, Mn, numerous cousins, and his faithful dog.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Born February 5, 1917, to Edward W. Kemme, Sr. and Margaret Seltrecht, Edward lived his whole life in the Cedar Rapids area. He married Kathryn Oliver on August 23, 1940, in Marion.
Following his graduation from high school, Edward owned and operated a Sinclair service station in Cedar Rapids. In 1943 he entered the U.S. Army and served as a member of the 718th Railway Battalion in Northern France, the Ardennes, and Central Europe. Upon his discharge in 1946, he worked for 31 years as a toolmaker for the FMC-Linkbelt Corporation retiring in 1985.
A member of Calvary Baptist Church since 1953, Edward served periodically on the board of trustees. He held a life-long interest in amateur radio and electronics, using his skills to equip and maintain the audio system at Calvary.
Edward was know for his easy-going manner, playful sense of humor, and good-heartedness. He was always willing to help others when called upon and will be missed by all who knew him.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Calvary Baptist Church.

Herbert B. Kirkland
Born in Kansas City, MO. on July 27, 1909
Departed on February 20, 2003. Resided in Marion, IA.

Herbert B. Kirkland, 93, of 1680 Highview Dr. Marion died Thursday, Feb. 20, 2003 at University Hospitals in Iowa City after a long illness. Services at 3 PM on Sat. at the Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories where friends may call after 2 PM on Sat. Rev. Richard Newhall and Rev. Lloyd Brockmeyer will officiate. Burial at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Cedar Memorial Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include a stepdaughter, Vicki France of Launceston, England and a stepson, David Ringsmuth and his wife, Mariana of Northridge, CA. He is also survived by 8 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren 7 great great grandchildren, sister and brother in law, Suzanne and George Schmidt and a sister in law, Natalie Ballou all of Cedar Rapids. He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Judy and the other members of 'The Foresome', Forrest Smith, John Kehrer and Chuck Rohde.
Herbert was born on July 27, 1909 in Kansas City, MO., the son of Herbert and Lulu Barnard Kirkland. He married Kathleen Jenkins on Aug. 5, 1961 in Cedar Rapids. She died in 1991. Herb was the owner and operator of the Dr. Pepper Bottling Co in Cedar Rapids from 1937 to 1950. From 1950 to 1965 he was a Rep. for Midland Manufacturing. From 1965 to 1975 he was the owner and operator of Herbert B. Kirkland Associates and from 1975 to 1987 he was a realtor. He was a founding member of Elmcrest Country Club and a former member of the Optimist and Elks Clubs. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be given to the charity of the donors choice. Herb was known as one of the 'Sweetest' men, not just for his personality but also for his confectionary creations.
