NEW HAMPTON -- Clarence Herzeelle, 92, of New Hampton, formerly of Oelwein, died Tuesday, Nov. 7, 2000, at New Hampton Nursing & Rehab Center of natural causes; services 11 a.m. Friday at Conway Funeral Home, New Hampton, (641) 394-4331, with burial at 2;30 p.m. in Woodlawn Cemetery, Oelwein; visitation 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with an 8 p.m. Scripture service.

WAVERLY -- Lola F. Hoffman, 83, of Waverly, died today, Nov. 8, 2000, at Clarksville Community Nursing Home of natural causes; services pending with Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home, Waverly, 352-1187.

CHARLES CITY -- Allen "Skip" Nelson, 58, of Charles City, died Wednesday, Nov. 8, 2000, at home of natural causes; services pending with Hauser Funeral Home, Charles City, (515) 228-2323.

MOUNT AUBURN -- Robert W. "Bob" Hadley, 79, of Cedar Rapids, formerly of Mount Auburn, died Tuesday, Nov. 7, 2000, at home after a brief illness; services 11 a.m. Friday at St. Auburn Methodist Church, with private family burial in New Providence Cemetery, New Providence; visitation 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Phillips Funeral Home, Vinton, (319) 472-2388; a memorial fund has been established.

NEW HAMPTON -- Arlene Marie Koehler, 79, of Tama, formerly of New Hampton, died Sunday, Nov. 5, 2000, at Sunny Hill Care Center, Tama, of cancer; survivors include a son, Richard of Tama; a daughter, Connie Melugin of Waterloo; and three grandchildren and a great-granddaughter; she was preceded in death by her husband, Waldon, in 1994; and two brothers, Theodore and Everett Slack; graveside services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Graceland Cemetery, New Hampton; there will be no visitation; Harrison Funeral Home, Tama, is in charge of arrangements; memorial fund has been established; Mrs. Koehler was head of food services for the Fredericksburg Community School District for almost 30 years before retiring.

LINCOLN -- Merlin Melton, 73, of Lincoln, died Sunday, Nov. 5, 2000, at Marshalltown Medical and Surgical Center, Marshalltown, of natural causes; survivors include three sons, Larry of Lincoln and Earl and Rocky, both of Evansdale; four daughters, Rose Melton of Kernville, Calif., Melissa Melton of Urbana, Mo., Penny Hope of Aurora, Mo., and Betty Jane of Texas; 13 grandchildren and a great-grandchild; and his former wife, Margaret Watkins of Evansdale; he was preceded in death by a brother, Marvin "Hap;" memorial services will be 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Geottsch-Perrin Funeral Home, with burial in Maple Hill Cemetery, both in Gladbrook; military rites will be conducted by Lincoln AMVETS; there will be no visitation; Mr. Melton served in the U.S. Navy from 1945 to 1973, serving in World War II and in two tours in Korea.

WINTHROP -- Inez Carpenter, 86, of Winthrop, died Monday, Nov. 6, 2000, at Covenant Medical Center, Waterloo, after a brief illness; survivors include a daughter, Janet Main of Coggon; a son, Darrell of Coggon; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; and a sister, Opal Smith of Independence; she was preceded in death by her husband, John; an infant daughter, Linda Lou; and two brothers, Orville Hatfield and Charles Waterhouse; services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Church of Christ United, Winthrop, with burial in Lower Spring Grove Cemetery, east of Troy Mills; friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. today at Fawcett Funeral Home, Winthrop, and for an hour before services Thursday at the church.

FORT ATKINSON -- Edward G. Wagner, 85, of rural Fort Atkinson, died Monday, Nov. 6, 2000, at Mercy Medical Center, New Hampton, from injuries suffered in an automobile accident in Jackson Junction; survivors include his wife, Gladys; four sons, Darrell of Calmar, Rick of Cresco, Jim of Cedar Rapids and Randy of Fort Atkinson; two daughters, Jeanne Verlsteffen of Coral Springs, Fla., and Janice Balk of Waucoma; and a sister, Viola Wiltgen of Calmar; services will be 11 a.m. Friday at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, Spillville, with burial in the church cemetery; friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Balik Funeral Home, Spillville, where there will be a 4 p.m. rosary and a 7 p.m. prayer service; visitation also before services Friday at the funeral home.

DENVER -- Vera Luther, 78, of Denver, died Monday, Nov. 6, 2000, at home of natural causes; survivors include her husband, Vern; three sons, Bill Strein of Castalia, Jim Strein of Fresno, Calif., and Denny Strein of Altamont, Mo.; a daughter, Jeanine Stanford of Waterloo; and eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; she was preceded in death by an infant son, David Luther; and three brothers, Orville, James and Charles Laugridge; services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at St. John Lutheran Church, Denver, with burial in Garden of Memories, Waterloo. Friends may call until 8 p.m. today at Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home, Denver, with family present from 4 to 8 p.m.; visitation also for an hour before services Thursday at the church; memorials may be directed to the church or to charity of donor's choice; Mrs. Luther worked at Rath Packing Co. and John Deere, both in Waterloo.

HAMPTON -- Irvin F. Pralle, 57, of Hampton, died Monday, Nov. 6, 2000, at home of natural causes; survivors include a son, Mark Pralle of Coulter; two daughters, Leah Meyer of Latimer and Heidi Spalding of Oceanside, Calif.; two stepsons, Ian and Jesse Austin, both of Phoenix, Ariz.; four grandchildren; his parents, Louie and Irma Pralle of Latimer; two brothers, Donald of Latimer and Larry of Northfield, Minn.; services will be 1:30 p.m. Thursday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Latimer, with burial in the church cemetery; friends may call from 3 to 6 p.m. today at Sietsema-Vogel Funeral Home, Latimer; Mr. Pralle was a carpenter and construction worker.

ACKLEY -- Herman A. Boelman, 75, of Ackley, died Tuesday, Nov. 7, 2000, at Maple Manor Care Center, Aplington, of natural causes; survivors include his wife, Bernadine; and a brother, Elmer James of Grundy Center; services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at Austinville Christian Reformed Church, Austinville, with burial in Oakwood Cemetery, Ackley; friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Sietsema Funeral Home, Ackley, with family present from 6 to 8 p.m.; Mr. Boelman was a farmer and woodcrafter.

CLARKSVILLE -- Irvin Freese, 77, of Clarksville, died Monday, Nov. 6, 2000, at Liebe Care Center, Greene, of natural causes; survivors include his wife, Helen; two sons, Edwin of Waverly and Allan of Redwood City, Calif.; a daughter, Barbara Tack of Greene; five grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and two stepgreat-grandchildren; and a sister, Katherine Luelle Murra of Wellsburg; services will be 1:30 p.m. Friday at Immanuel United Church of Christ, with burial in Lynwood Cemetery, both in Clarksville; friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday and 9 to 11 a.m. Friday at Schwartz Funeral Home, Clarksville; memorials may be directed to his family; Mr. Freese farmed in the Greene and Clarksville area, retiring in 1986.

CEDAR FALLS -- Ruby G. Newton, 87, of 7511 University Ave., formerly of Kenansville, N.C., died Tuesday, Dec. 5, 2000, at the Lutheran Home after a lengthy illness; services pending with Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home, 266-7525.

WATERLOO -- Raymond R. Bluhm, 89, of Cedar Falls, formerly of 1217 Glenny Ave., died Tuesday, Dec. 5, 2000, at Covenant Medical Center of pneumonia; services pending with Chapel of Memories-West Family Funeral Care, 233-8437.

WATERLOO -- Gary Harley Clefisch, 50, of Guttenberg, died Monday, Dec. 4, 2000, at Mercy Health Center, Dubuque, after a brief illness; services 11 a.m. Thursday at St. John's Lutheran Church, with burial in Ceres Cemetery, both in Guttenberg; visitation 4 to 8 p.m. today at Tuecke-Allyn Funeral Home, Guttenberg, (319) 252-1842, and for an hour before services Thursday at the church; his sister, Mary Reimer of Naples, Fla., is a former Waterloo resident.
