Edwin T. Kral, 89, of 2603 Falbrook Dr. NE. died Sunday May 6, 2007 after a brief illness. Services at 3 PM on Friday at he Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories where there will also be military rites. Rev. William Harnish will officiate. Inurnment at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call at the Cedar Memorial Funeral Home from 5 to 8 PM on Thursday.
Survivors include a son, Kevin of Cedar Rapids. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister Anna.
Edwin was born on April 5, 1918 in Cedar Rapids, the son of Thomas and Anna Melsha Kral. He married
Iska W. Campbell on Feb. 20, 1950 in Excelsior Springs, Missouri. She died in 1996. Edwin was an engineer for the city of Cedar Rapids for over 23 years, retiring in 1984. He was a member of Sharon United Methodist Church, American Legion Hanford Post No. 5, VFW Post 788 and proudly served in the army during WWII with the 14th field artillery observation battalion. He enjoyed Native American culture, their artifacts and especially time spent with his family and friends. Military rites by American Legion Hanford Post No. 5.

Robert C. Kacena, 84, 1504 K Ave NE died Monday, May 7, 2007 at St. Luke's Hospital following a brief illness. Services: 2:00 P.M. Friday at First Lutheran Church. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Funeral Home on Thursday from 5PM to 8PM. The Rev. Dr. Kay Slocum will officiate.
Surviving in addition to his wife Margaret are three sons, Neil G. Kacena Jennifer of Valencia, CA, Jeffrey R. J.R. Kacena of Van Horne and Douglas E. Kacena Stephanie of Ruidoso, NM; a brother, Martin Kacena of Denton, TX; a sister-in-law, Betty Kacena of Dodge City, KS; eight grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Louis Kacena, and a daughter-in-law Julie Kacena.
Robert was born May 20, 1922 in Cedar Rapids the son of Louis A. and Caroline Brems Kacena. He served in the Army Air Corps during WW II as a B-24 navigator, where he earned DFC Oak Leaf Cluster, an Air Medal, and an ETO Ribbon with five Battle Stars. He retired from the Air Force Reserve as a Lt. Colonel. He married
Margaret Ernst on November 30, 1946 in Cedar Rapids. Robert was an employee of Maresh Sheet Metal Works for 37 years, retiring in 1987. Robert was a member of First Lutheran Church, a life member of the V.F.W. Post 788, the American Legion Post 727, a member and P.E.R. of Elks Club #251, life member and past president of the ROA, and past president of the Southside Civic Club.

Catherine "Kitty" Grim Kent, 90, of Cedar Rapids died Sunday, June 3, 2007 at her home following a short illness. Memorial Services: 3:00 PM Monday, June 18, 2007 at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. Inurnment: Cedar Memorial Mausoleum. The Rev. Mark Osterhaus of St. Matthew Catholic Church will officiate.
Survivors include her son, Murray Kent and wife Brenda Bang of Cedar Rapids; a daughter, Dr. Virginia Kent and her husband Dr. David Philips, and grandchildren, Rebecca and Michael Philips of Shreveport, LA; and two sisters-in-law, Virginia Lehr of Cedar Rapids and Kathryn Harris of New Hampton.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth.
Catherine was born February 14, 1917 in Iowa City the daughter of Joseph and Agnes Grim. She graduated from Iowa City High School and the University of Iowa. She taught secretarial training at Independence High School and Coe College, Cedar Rapids. She was the adult program director at the YWCA for seven years. She was a long time member of St. Matthew Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids. Catherine loved dancing she danced professionally in New York and Atlantic City, fashion sewing and knitting. She married
Kenny Kent in Iowa City on July 27, 1943. Their marriage of 57 years was truly a love affair. Kitty is greatly missed by her family, her many friends and her beloved cat, Sita.

Kenneth W. Krapfl, 55, of 400 Lindale Drive, Marion, died June 29, 2007 at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy following a short illness. Funeral Mass 1:00 PM Tuesday, July 3, 2007 at All Saints Catholic Church. Rev. David O'Connor will officiate. Friends may call at the church on Tuesday after 12:00 Noon. Interment will take place at 2:30 PM at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery, Evergreen Section. Arrangements entrusted to Cedar Memorial Funeral Home.
Survivors include wife Kim; mother Millie Krapfl of Cedar Rapids; children Julie, Stephanie, and David Krapfl all of Marion; grandson Draven Krapfl; sister Judith Palmer of Cedar Rapids; mother in law Barbara Payn of Cedar Rapids; brother in law Terry Payn of Center Point; and sister in law Kathee Payn McQuown of Cedar Rapids.
He was preceded in death by his father Walter Krapfl, and infant son Mark Krapfl.
Kenneth Walter Krapfl was born April 27, 1952, the beloved son of Walter and Millie Sabers Krapfl. He was united in marriage to Kim Payn on June 1, 1974 in Cedar Rapids. He was employed as a Customer Service Representative at PRC for several years and greatly enjoyed his work. He also enjoyed playing on his computer with his son, and spending time with his best friend from work, Yorky.
In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established.

Angela M. Kovacik 89, of 641 34th Street SE, died Thursday July 12, 2007, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha, following a long illness. Services at 11 AM Tuesday in Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. Rev. David O'Connor of All Saints Catholic Church will officiate. Burial in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Survivors include her husband of 61 years Michael, a sister Maxine Corr of Los Angeles, California, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers Virgil and Lovell Barta.
Angela was born October 3, 1917 in Solon, Iowa to Jerry and Grace Zinkula Barta. She married
Michael J. Kovacik on January 30, 1946 in Solon. She worked in production for the Wilson Company for many years. She was a member of All Saints Catholic Church and the AFL-CIO Union No 1968. She enjoyed cooking and traveling.

Survivors include a daughter Janet Karr and husband Wayne of Cedar Rapids, a son Robert C. Kitterman Jr. and wife Marilyn of Cedar Rapids, three sisters Ruth Weltzin, Doris Niedermann, and Mickey Bruce Perrin all of Waterloo, Iowa, a brother Kenneth Gnade of Webster City, Iowa, six grandchildren, Kari Person, Scott Becky Person, Amy Anthony Arrington, Dr. Rob Michelle Kitterman III, Chris Kitterman, and Kevin Tanya Kitterman, great-grandchildren, Brittany Andrew Torres, Mariah Peck, David Yancey, Samantha Kitterman, Alanna Arrington, Payton Kitterman, Kate Kitterman, Halle Person, Alex Kitterman, Quin Kitterman, Makayla Kitterman, and Amyah Arrington, and a great great granddaughter Alivia Torres her special little helper.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Robert, and a sister Helen Hatlestad, and a brother Roland Gnade.
Gladys was born October 29, 1921 in Grand Meadow, Minnesota to Carl and Mabel Shaw Gnade. She married
Robert C. Kitterman on July 12, 1941 in Le Roy, Minnesota. She was a sales supervisor at Killian's, Younkers, and Von Maur Department Stores. She was a member of Calvin Sinclair Presbyterian Church. She enjoyed cooking, baking, and spending time with her family especially her grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great granddaughter.
