Virgil A. Kula, of Cedar Rapids, died at St. Luke’s Hospital, Monday, November 29, 2010. Funeral Mass: 10 a.m. Friday at St. Matthew Catholic Church by the Rev. David Beckman. Burial: Mt. Calvary Cemetery. A visitation will be held on Thursday from 2 to 5 p.m. at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home and at the church after 9 a.m. on Friday.
Survivors include his brothers, Robert Kula, Richard Kula, Ronald Kula, and John Kula; sisters, Rosemary (Loren) Zabokrtsky and Mary Jean (Dale) Muller; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Jean; brothers, LeRoy, Ray, and Delbert; and sister, Vivian Rickels.
Virgil was born May 10, 1922 in rural Prairieburg to Raymond and Emma Holub Kula where he grew up to appreciate the farm life. He married
Jean Hofferd on May 1, 1954 in Cedar Rapids. She died on October 18, 2010. Virgil worked as a truck driver for Whitwer Company and then spent many years in the tire business for Baxter Motors, Brad Ragan, and Sears. Virgil was an avid hunter, and loved to hunt ducks and geese in Canada. He was a member of St. Matthew Catholic Church.

June A. Kammerer, 84, of Cedar Rapids, died December 20, 2010 at the Hiawatha Care Center following a short illness. Funeral mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 28, 2010 at St. Pius X Catholic Church by the Rev. David Ambrosy. Entombment will take place at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m on Monday, December 27, 2010 at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home, where a vigil service will be held at 6:00 p.m.
June is survived by her children Mike Kammerer and wife Nancy of Urbandale and Pam Zimmerman and husband Mark of Cedar Rapids; grandchildren, Christy (Chris Thomas), Jaime (Sayle) Shipman, Jason (Tara) Kammerer, Kelly Miller, and step granddaughter Sarah (Jeff) Smith; and six great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband of 62 years, Leo, and her 7 brothers and sisters.
June Adel Kammerer was born September 17, 1926 in Britt, Iowa the daughter of John and Amelia (Fennawald) Mulert. She was united in marriage to Leo P. Kammerer on July 31, 1948 in Rock Island, IL at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Leo preceded her in death on January 9, 2010. June was employed as a Registered Nurse for several years until she began caring for her family as a homemaker. She was an avid golfer with her husband Leo. June greatly enjoyed time she was able to spend with family and friends. She was a charter member of St. Pius X Catholic Church. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend who will be dearly missed.

Andrew J. Kanellis

Andrew J. Kanellis, 60, of Cedar Rapids went to be with the Lord on Monday April 4, 2011 at St. Luke's Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer. Services at 1:00 PM on Sunday at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Friends may call at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 5 to 8 PM on Friday.
Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Janniece E. (Cahill) Kanellis; brother Gene (Sharon) of Rock Falls, Illinois; children: Bill (Renae) of Manchester, Ken (Jeanine), Arthur Eugene, and a daughter, Ida (Jason) Hangartner all of Cedar Rapids. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren, Gage, Kayla and Isabella Kanellis of Manchester, Zachary, Ashley and Nicholas Kanellis of Cedar Rapids, Jennifer and Jessica Kanellis of South Haven, Mississippi, Logan, Morgan, Ethan and Lucy Hangartner of Cedar Rapids.
Andy was born in Cedar Rapids, on October 25, 1950 to Mary A. (Poole) Kanellis. In 1970, April 27 he married
the love of his life, Janniece E. Cahill, and received draft notice in June of 1970. He served our country in the Air Force at Dyess Air Force Base in Abilene, Texas for more than 3 years. Andy worked at Quaker Oats in the Ready Too Eat Dept. for more than 40 years.
Andy loved his dogs, his most recent being Smokey and Bandit, he loved to walk his dogs daily at the Sac N Fox Trail along the Cedar River. Andy and Janniece recently began enjoying a travel trailer and camping at various parks in Eastern Iowa with their dogs. Andy was an active member of SASS, Single Action Shooting Society; he loved to participate in Cowboy Action Shooting. His alias being, Triggerlock. He loved shooting with Ida, Jason and his grandson, Trigger Happy Zach. Andy and Janniece loved attending monthly Cowboy Action Shoots in Evansdale, with the Turkey Foot Cowboys. Andy has always had a love for the Union Pacific Railroad and Trains. As a young child his mother took him and his siblings to Disneyland in California by train. As an adult he had many vacations that were enjoyed with his wife and often his mother on cross-country via train. Andy loved being with family, he enjoyed many picnics, travels to state parks, fishing on the Mississippi, hunting, shooting, almost all activities that his children asked him to participate in. Andy loved his friends, pets, family and the Lord dearly, all of these meant a great deal to him.

Phyllis Jean Kilpatrick

Phyllis Jean Kilpatrick, of Cedar Rapids, passed peacefully from this life on Friday, April 8, 2011, at the Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha, Iowa. Her Celebration of Life service will be at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories in Cedar Rapids at 1pm on Monday, April 11, 2011. Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Phyllis was born on June 4, 1933 in Ames, Iowa, the youngest of three children to William and Rose Kelley. Phyllis was married
to Donald Madlock in 1955. She was a technician at Collins Radio for many of NASA’s Apollo missions, including the Apollo 11 moon landing. She also served as a board member of the A. Philip Randolph Institute in the 1970s and was an active member of the Cedar Rapids and Iowa chapters of the NAACP and the AFL-CIO (including serving as a steward at Collins Radio). In addition she served as president of the Iowa Democratic Party and Iowa NOW. Phyllis also went on to work for the Iowa Bureau of Labor, and taught at Kirkwood Community College. While working at the University of Iowa Public Health Department, she met Franklin Kilpatrick and they married
in 1984. She worked at the City of Iowa City as a housing inspector and retired from the City of Cedar Rapids Housing Department in 2005.
Phyllis was a generous and strong presence among her family, community and the State of Iowa. Phyllis was always politically active in her community and was a master gardener. Her positive attitude about her life and its finality assisted all who saw her bravery. She gave fresh cut flowers to all who needed a pick me up. Her beauty and grace will be missed by all who loved her.
Phyllis is survived by sons David Madlock, Tampa, FL; Gordon Madlock (Jaketta) Oswego, IL; Kenneth Madlock (Teresa), North Liberty, IA; and Jayson Madlock (Rachel), Fruitland, IA; daughters, the Rev. Marcia Kilpatrick Madlock (The Rev. Darin Lovelace) of Park City, UT; Monica Nielsen, Mason City, IA; and Judy Bridges VA: 19 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, five nieces, two nephews: four stepchildren; Judy Kilpatrick, Chicago IL; David (Nancy) Kilpatrick, Pinehurst, NC; Jon Kilpatrick, Coralville, IA; Robert Kilpatrick, Tomball, TX: and many other loved ones and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother and her sister, her husbands Frank and Donald, and her son Ricky McFalls.

Edith Louise Kincaid-Belverstone, 88, fell asleep in the Lord on April 12, 2011 at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, April 18, 2011 at Trinity Lutheran Church. Rev. Jonathan Offt will officiate. Visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 17, 2011 at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. Burial will take place at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Survivors include her sister, Ida Schiwindler of Michigan; her children, Midge (George) Saba of Cedar Rapids, Denise (Ronald) Rieb of Colorado, Lauren Robinson of Cedar Rapids, Charles (Ellen) Robinson of Colorado, Elise “Liz” Tyler of California, Rene (Steve) Turner of Utah, Rueben (Mitzi) Belverstone of Utah and Esther (Ben) Kryger of California. She is also survived by 29 grandchildren, 53 great grandchildren, 9 great great grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; children, Jesse Robinson, Judith Wall and Melvin Belverstone; sisters, Pearl Ash, Heloise Siebell; and brother, Paul Harold Kindcaid.
She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Cedar Rapids. She loved flowers and gardening, dogs, crosswords, conservative politics, writing editorials for the Cedar Rapids Gazette, and even had 3 songs published and recorded.
Edith loved her family and friends. She enjoyed the right to vote and sharing the word of the Lord. She was a woman very strong in her Christian faith.

Rosalee A. King, 85, of Cedar Rapids, died at her home, Tuesday, April 19, 2011. Services: 2 p.m. Saturday at Cedar Memorial Westside Chapel by the Rev. Harlan Gillespie. Interment: Cedar Memorial Park cemetery with military honors. A visitation will be held Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. and after 1:30 p.m. on Saturday at Cedar Memorial Westside Chapel.
Survivors include her children, Donald (Ana) King of Keokuk, Diane King of Cedar Rapids, and Michael J. (Patty) King of Ames. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Louis L., and two sisters, Miriam Adams and Ruth Bauer.
Rosalee was born May 3, 1925 in Cedar Rapids to Ernest and Frances Bunce. She graduated from McKinley High School. In college she serviced airplanes for the Army Air Corps and later joined the Coast Guard, serving during WWII. Rosalee married
Louis L. King in Cedar Rapids on October 20, 1946. She was employed by the Social Security office, Collins Radio, and the Cedar Rapids School District and then retired from Rockwell Collins. Rosalee was an avid reader and enjoyed quilting and a variety of other crafts. Rosalee was a member of and held offices for Waves National and Mended Hearts organizations. In the last year of her life, Rosalee learned how to play handbells.
