Steven Allen Koeppen, 57, a lifelong Cedar Rapids resident, passed away Monday evening, April 25th at Mercy hospital in Cedar Rapids. A celebration of life service will be held at 1:00pm Thursday at Cedar Memorial Park - Chapel of Memories. The Rev. Anthony Smith of New Creation International Church, Iowa City, will officiate. Friends may call after 12:30 p.m. on Thursday at the Chapel of Memories. Arrangements entrusted to Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.
Steve was born August 13th, 1954 in Cedar Rapids. He was a graduate of Cedar Rapids Washington High School. After graduation Steve went to work for Martin Oil Co. He later worked for Ralston Foods Inc. for 33 years.
Steve enjoyed fishing and the outdoors. He also enjoyed attending sporting events especially baseball, hockey and racing in his spare time, and loved playing practical jokes and sharing laughs with his friends and family.
Steve was a member of the Cedar Rapids Jaycee’s for many years.
Steve is survived by his Mother Ardis Koeppen; four Brothers, Nathan and Mark Koeppen, Kenny and Jim Christner; sister Carole Schexnayder, and his Step Mother Connie Koeppen
Steve was preceded in death by his Father, Eugene “Red” Koeppen; sister Karen Pawlowski; Grandparents, Rudy and Viola Koeppen; Irwin and Tillie Miller

James Warren Kauffman

James Warren Kauffman Sr., 89, surrounded by his family, went to be with his Savior, on Friday evening, June 24th, 2011, following a long illness. Funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, June 28, at All Saints Catholic Church by the Rev. David O’Connor. A vigil service will be held at 5 p.m. Monday at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home where family and friends may call from 4 to 9 p.m. Monday and after 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at the church. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Warren was born in Milville, Iowa on January 25, 1922 to Wayne Clayton Kauffman and Lucille Maye Landis Kauffman. He was the sixth of eleven children. As a young adult he worked for the Civilian Conservation Corps. In 1946 he moved to Cedar Rapids and began working for Iowa Steel and Iron Works, retiring from there in 1984 as the night supervisor. On November 27, 1948 he married
Fonda Eileen Oliphant. Together they raised seven children. He loved his family, enjoyed traveling, fishing, gardening, being outdoors, music and telling a good story while playing cards.
Warren is survived by his wife Fonda and seven children; Jim (Becki) Kauffman of Greenville, SC, Terry (Barb) Kauffman of Lisle, Il, Patty Kauffman, Paula Snow and Mike Kauffman, all of Cedar Rapids, Timothy (Dodie) Kauffman of Marion and Kathy Hampton of Jesup, Iowa; 18 grandchildren, Tanya Guyder, Troy Kauffman, Ryan and Stephan Kauffman, Jamie Waybill, Joey and Jeremy Snow, Mindi, Timothy, Kayleen Kauffman, Ryan and Jill James, Jordan Edinger, Dustin and Lili Hampton; 13 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Anola Bell Keegan, Faye Lucille (Jim) Sperfslage, and June Rose (Bob) Auman; two brother, George William (Mary) Kauffman and Russell Wayne (Betty) Kauffman; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded home by his parents Wayne and Lucille Kauffman; brothers, Lowell, Cyril, Clair, Clark Kauffman; sister, Marjorie McDowell; and grandson, Jacob Hampton.
Warren was a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather and great-grandfather. He will be greatly missed by his family.
The family would like to thank the Hospice House of Mercy and the 8th Floor staff at Mercy Medical Center for the wonderful care given to Warren and family.

John Francis Kirby, 63, a resident of Kewanee, Illinois, formerly of Anamosa, died at the Royal Oaks Care Center Friday July 29, 2011. Visitation will be Tuesday August 2, 2011 from 4:00-7:00PM at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home with a Rosary at 4:30PM. Funeral Service will be held Wednesday August 3, 2011 at 11:00AM at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. Entombment will be at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Survivors include his children; Kristopher Kirby of Madrid, IA, Kelly (Tracey) Kirby of Cedar Rapids, Kendolynn (Dan) Kirby of Cedar Rapids; grandchildren London, Aubree, and Taylor; great-grand-child Maci; siblings Lois (Francis) Boeding of Hopkinton, Helen (Gilbert) Becker of Cedar Rapids, Ann (Gary) Siddell of Coggon, Lorraine (Al) Remington of Marion, Bill (Esther) Kirby of Anamosa, Marjorie Burgess of Anamosa, George (Sharon) Kirby of Cedar Rapids, Betty Felton of Anamosa, and Katie (Don) Chapman of Springville; sister-in-law Sherry Kirby of Anamosa, brother-in-law Glenn Lange of Springville, and numerous nieces and nephews.
John was preceded in death by his parents, sister Frances Lange, and brothers Don and Ed Kirby, brother-in-law, Bill Felton.
John Francis Kirby was born January 8, 1948 in Winthrop, IA to Francis and Artazena (Carradus) Kirby. He liked baseball and was a big fan of the Chicago Cubs. He was also a big Iowa Hawkeye fan. Being around family was important to John and he loved music and to dance.

The Rev. Roland Joseph Krekeler, 80, of Cedar Rapids, found peace in the arms of the Lord Sunday, August 7, 2011, after a long battle with Parkinson’s disease. Services will be held Friday, August 12, at 11 a.m. at Bethany Lutheran Church, followed by burial at the Lisbon Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home and also Friday at the church from 10 to 11 a.m.
Roland was born Dec. 29, 1930, in Leavenworth, Kan., the youngest son of Carl and Louise (Wagner) Krekeler.
Roland moved with his family to Fort Smith, Ark., when he was 10 years old. Roland completed two years of high school and three years of junior college at St. John’s College in Winfield, Kan. Upon his graduation, he made the decision to follow God’s calling and began his studies at Concordia Theological Seminary in St. Louis, Mo. It was in 1955 that Roland met his future wife, Patricia (Resewehr), while serving as vicar at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Mount Vernon. His first assignment was a dual parish in eastern Pennsylvania, which he served for two years.
Roland and Patricia were married
July 28, 1957, the first wedding at St. Paul’s. After the birth of their first daughter, Miriam, they returned to Winfield, where he served as a teacher for five years. During this time, their daughter, Becky, was born. Roland’s growing family moved to Ellsworth, Kan., where he served as pastor at Immanuel Lutheran Church. Two more daughters, Louise and Ruth, were born in Ellsworth, and Roland and Patricia completed their houseful of girls with the adoption of Jennifer in 1976.
Roland and family moved to Iowa in 1967 and began working at The Cedar Rapids Gazette as a news reporter. He rubbed elbows with many attorneys and judges during his many years as court reporter. He continued his ministry by preaching at area churches, including Zion Lutheran in Hiawatha and Covington Church. Upon his retirement from The Gazette in 1991, he kept busy doing freelance work for area newspapers.
Roland will be remembered for his love of God and family. Also bringing him joy were classical music, attending family reunions, and singing in the choir. His dynamic bass voice is now ringing loud and clear in the heavenly choir.
Roland was preceded in death by his parents, brother Kenneth, sister Doris, daughter Miriam, Patricia’s parents Elwood and Dorothy Resewehr, and his godson Daniel Kretzmann.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Patricia; daughters, Becky (Alex) Johnson of Norway, Louise (Greg) Holtz of Cedar Rapids, Ruth (Adam) Pilsbury of Huntersville, N.C., and Jennifer (Tony) Campbell of Henderson, Nev.; brother Carl Krekeler of Seattle, Wash.; sisters, Katheryn Kretzmann and Rose Marie (Jerry) Wyneken of Lititz, Pa.; son-in-law, Peter Wong of Chicago; grandsons, Matthew (Megan) Stover, Carlin Stover and Maxwell Holtz of Cedar Rapids, Timothy Stover of Norway, Samuel and Jacob Roland Pilsbury of Huntersville, N.C., Teyshawn, Tyger and Trez Campbell of Henderson, Nev., granddaughters, Louise Pilsbury of Huntersville, N.C., Teeyha Campbell of Henderson, Nev., and Katheryn Holtz of Cedar Rapids; step-grandsons, Daniel and Timothy Johnson of Norway, brothers-in-law, John Resewehr of Colorado City, Colo., and Robert Resewehr of Murrieta, Ca.; and many nieces and nephews. Also surviving are longtime friends and neighbors, Johnny and Manon Page.

Roland battled Parkinson’s for 12 years and was in the care of St. Luke’s Hospice for more than three years. The family wants to give a special thank you to the caring staff at St. Luke’s Hospice and Winslow House, especially Julie, Pamela, John “Doctor Joe”, Augusta and Michael.

Louis G. Kellner, 74, of Cedar Rapids, died at the Hospice House of Mercy, Friday, August 19, 2011. Funeral Mass: 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Matthew Catholic Church by the Rev. David Beckman. Interment: Cedar Memorial Park cemetery with military honors. A visitation will be held on Tuesday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home and after 10 a.m. Wednesday at the church.

Lou was born September 17, 1936 in Wesley to Mathias and Mary Kellner. He married
Mary Lou O’Hollearn on July 30, 1960. He and Mary Lou owned and operated the Danish Maid Bakery in Cedar Rapids and Marion from 1969 to 1994. After retiring from the bakery, he worked as a security guard at Rockwell and MCI for a couple of years. He was an active volunteer for Hospice of Mercy.
He was a strong supporter of Camp Courageous and Iowa Hawkeye football. Lou was a loving husband, father, grandfather He was a member of St. Matthew Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus and an Army veteran.

Lora B. Kohl, 80, of the Meadows died at Crestview Acres in Marion on Friday October 7, 2011 after a courageous battle with cancer. Services at 9:00 AM on Tuesday at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Rev. Ron Connerly will officiate. Entombment at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 4 to 7 PM on Monday.
Survivors include four daughters, Rose Duchesneau and Barbara (Philip) McCurdy all of Cedar Rapids, Donna (David) Hansel of Swan, and Mary (Robert) Denler of Monument, Colorado; three sons, Larry (Patricia) Shepard of Cedar Rapids, Donald (Cindy) Kohl of Marion and Ronald (Monica) Kohl of Cedar Rapids. She is also survived by four brothers, one sister, ten grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
Lora was born on August 12, 1931 in Gilbertville, the daughter of Hubert and Christine Becker Wester. She Married Harry Shepard Jr. on August 13, 1949 in Waterloo. He died in 1952. She later married
William J. Kohl on May 9, 1953 in Waterloo. He died in 1989.
Lora was a cook at both Tommy’s and Susie’s Restaurants and retired after many years of service. She was a member of the VFW and American Legion Auxiliaries. Lora enjoyed reading, working puzzles, going to the casino, and cross stitching.
She was a wonderful and devoted wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and great grandmother who will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. A memorial fund has been established.
