Departed on January 6, 2010. Resided in Hiawatha, Iowa.

Rosella Joyce Kappmeyer, 74, of 524 Coral Dr., Hiawatha, died Wednesday, January 6, 2010, at her home. At her request she was cremated and there will be no services. Arrangements by Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.

She is survived by her husband Dale, three brothers Dewey (Bonnie) Kastli of Oelwein, Roy (Tammi) Kastli, and Ronald (Leona) Kastli) all of Waterloo, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Mary Kastli, an infant sister Rita Kastli, and brother Robert Kastli.

Rosella was born February 13, 1935 in Oelwein, Iowa. She married Dale A. Kappmeyer on May 20, 1981, in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Rosella was a loving daughter, loving sister, loving wife, and best friend.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Daren F. Klosterman
Born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa on November 30, 1963
Departed on January 19, 2010. Resided in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Daren F. Klosterman, 46, of Cedar Rapids, died Tuesday, January 19, 2010 in Poolesville, Maryland from injuries in a motorcycle accident.

Services: 1:00 PM Monday, January 25, 2010 at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories with Deacon Jim Burger officiating. Inurnment will be in St. Joseph Cemetery. Friends may call from 4-7 pm Sunday at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home and from 11:30 until service time at the chapel on Monday.

Survivors include his wife, Kathy; Daughters, Danielle & Devan Klosterman; Parents, Bill and Ginny Klosterman; Brother, Bill Klosterman, Sister, Kellie Klosterman Sauser; Step grandmother, Anna Harris; Uncle, Rex Sparks; Aunt, Patty Sparks; Cousins, Sam and Sarah Sparks; and other aunts and uncles; and Buster King, his faithful companion.

Daren was preceded in death by his brother, Derek Klosterman, grandparents, Lew & Hazel Klosterman, Noema Colyer and John B. Harris.

Daren was born in Cedar Rapids on November 30, 1963. Daren loved family, riding motorcycles, boating, skiing, riding snowmobiles, deep-sea fishing, Nascar, as well as a deep love of music. Daren always lived life to the fullest regardless of what he was doing. Daren was very proud to be a 4th generation Union carpenter. One of his many local projects was the Cedar Memorial Crematorium. Daren worked as a project superintendent for healthcare construction firms. Daren supervised the construction of various healthcare facilities and hospitals in IA, WI, MN, OH, IN, TN, MI and IL. The pinnacle of Daren’s career was his current project, the Walter Reed Naval Hospital located in Bethesda, Maryland. Daren never forgot to show his appreciation for the hard work of those that worked with him by sharing his love of cooking and barbequing.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given towards his daughters’ college educations.

Cyril Landis Kauffman
Born in Manchester, Iowa on March 16, 1918
Departed on January 30, 2010. Resided in Roanoke, Virginia.

Cyril Landis Kauffman passed away on Saturday, January 30, 2010 at his home in Roanoke, VA. Cy was a very special man who unselfishly served his country, his family and his friends. Cy was born in Manchester, Iowa on March 16, 1918. Like many of his contemporaries, Cy spent several years in the Civilian Conservation Corp before enlisting in the army when the United States entered World War II. He saw action in the Pacific and was captured by the Japanese on the island of Corregidor. He survived 42 months in prisoner-of-war camps in the Philippines and Formosa. After his discharge from the army in 1946, Cy returned to Iowa where he earned a B.A. in Economics from the University of Iowa.

Most of Cy’s career was spent as an engineer in the aerospace/defense industry and he had the distinctive honor of being a member of the team that sent Apollo 11 to the moon. After many rewarding years in this field, he retired from Litton Industries/Ingalls Shipbuilding in Pascagoula, Ms in 1984. Having grown tired of gulf hurricanes, Cy moved to Asheville, NC where he lived until 2003. At that time he moved to Roanoke, VA to be close to his daughters and their families. Cy was an avid bowler and, as well as enjoying the fellowship of the many good friends in the leagues of which he was a member, he received recognition for multiple high point awards.

Surviving family include daughters: Leah Kauffman Coffman, her husband Ken, their children and families, Laura and Monty Cox, great-grandson Keith Russell Cox; and Doug and Jessie Coffman; and Patricia Rae Wenger and her daughters, Amanda and Jessica Wenger. Also surviving are three brothers: Warren, George and Russell Kauffman and sisters: Annola Keegan, June Auman and Faye Sperfslage as well as beloved numerous nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents, Wayne and Lucille Kauffman; sister, Marjorie McDowell; and brothers, Lowell, Clair Earl, and Clark Kauffman.

Services at 2:00 PM on Sunday at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories where there will also be military rites. Burial at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 2 to 4 PM on Saturday. Memorial donations may be given to the Salvation Army in Cy’s name.

Merlin E. Kurt
Born in Cascade on September 8, 1925
Departed on March 4, 2010. Resided in Davenport, Iowa.

Merlin E. “Bud” Kurt, 84, of Davenport, formerly of Cedar Rapids, died Thursday, March 4, 2010, at the Kahl Home in Davenport. Services will be at 10:30 Tuesday in St. Ludmila’s Catholic Church with Rev. Thomas McDermott officiating. Friends may call at the church after 9 AM Tuesday. Arrangements by Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.

Survivors include his wife of 52 years Marian, two sons Dennis and wife Kathy Kurt of Corcoran, MN, and Ted and wife Rebecca Kurt, of Davenport, Iowa, two sisters Bernice (Bea) Gudenkauf, late husband Alfred of Warrenville, IL, and Elaine (Toots) Hoffman, late husband William of Cascade, IA, two brothers Adrian (Ade) Kurt, late wife Dorothy of Cascade, IA, and Late Richard (Lou) Kurt, and wife Marjorie of Indianapolis, IN., two grandchildren Brian and Megan Kurt of Corcoran, MN, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Bud was born September 8, 1925 in Cascade, Iowa, to Edward and Rosalyn Curley Kurt. He married Marian Schulte on February 26, 1957 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids.

Bud served in WW II in both the Navy and the Marines. He graduated from the University of Iowa with a degree in physical education and a varsity letter in baseball. He worked at Penford Products from October 1957 to his retirement of April 1988.

Bud’s family wishes special thanks to the Genesis Hospice staff, The Kahl Home staff, and Jersey Ridge staff for their tender care of Bud.

Instead of flowers memorial contributions may be made to St. Ludmila’s Catholic Church, 2107 J. St. SW, Cedar Rapids, Iowa 52404, or to the Alzheimer’s Association/East Central Iowa Chapter, 1570 42nd St. NE, Cedar Rapids, Iowa 52402.

Melania Eleanor Krafl
Born in Bloomington, Wisconsin on November 16, 1918
Departed on March 6, 2010. Resided in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Melania “Millie” Eleanor Krapfl, 91, of Cedar Rapids passed away on Saturday, March 6, 2010 at the Linn Manor Care Center, Marion. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 AM on Tuesday, March 9, 2010 at All Saints Catholic Church. Rev. David O’Connor will officiate with burial in St. John’s Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 PM Monday at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home with a vigil and rosary service starting at 6:00 PM. Additional visitation time will be one hour before Funeral Mass at the church on Tuesday.

Survivors include her daughter Judith Palmer of Cedar Rapids; daughter-in-law Kim Krapfl of Marion; four grandchildren, Michael, Julie, Stephanie and David Krapfl; a great grandson Draven; brother LaVerne (Ida) Sabers of Earlville; and two sisters Alvina Ries and Velma Frericks both of Dyersville.

She was preceded in death by her husband Walter, parents, son Kenneth, three brothers, and four sisters.

Millie was born November 16, 1918 in Bloomington, WI, the daughter of Joseph and Elizabeth (Crubel) Sabers. She married Walter C. Krapfl on April 28, 1948 in New Vienna, IA. Walter passed away on December 9, 1998. She did house work for 22 years and worked for prominent people of Cedar Rapids and served President Hoover when he came to Cedar Rapids. She then worked as a machinist at Rockwell Collins for 11 years.

She was a member of All Saints Catholic Church, St. Anne’s Circle, and her Catholic faith was very important to her.

Millie was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, and friend. She enjoyed sewing, and was a good cook but always said it was a God given talent.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to All Saints Catholic Church.

Robert W. Knoot
Born in Oskaloosa, IA on November 8, 1945
Departed on March 11, 2010. Resided in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Robert W. Knoot, 64, of 3317 Timber Valley Ct. NE. died Thursday March 11, 2010 at the V.A. Hospital in Iowa City after a courageous battle with ALS. Services at 11:00 AM on Monday at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Entombment at Mt. Calvary cemetery where there will be military rites by The Iowa Military Funeral Honors Guard. Friends may call at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 3 to 6 PM on Sunday.

Survivors include his wife, Sheila, a son, Rob and his significant other, Pam; four daughters, Jennifer (Jim) Mann, Sarah Knoot and her significant other, Dennis, Emily Knoot and her significant other, Pat, and Megan Knoot all of Cedar Rapids; brother, Gene (Janice) of Knoxville, a sister-in-law, Connie, and brothers Ken of Oskaloosa and Marvin(Julie) of New Sharon. He is also survived by six grandchildren, Marissa, Haylee, Dominic, Delaney, Jonas and Griffin. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Dick.

Bob was born in Oskaloosa on November 8, 1945, the son of James and Jennie Van Weelden Knoot and graduated from Coe College. He married Sheila A. Cummings on March 25, 1972 in Cedar Rapids. Bob was the manager at the Greyhound Transportation Center in Cedar Rapids for over 25 years. Most recently he was in car sales. He enjoyed watching Hawkeye Basketball and was a huge fan of Kurt Warner. Bob proudly served in the Army during the Vietnam War and was an avid car enthusiast. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and friend who will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be given to the ALS Foundation in Bob’s name.
