Robert J. Kelchen, 76, of 917 Regent St. NE died Thursday May 20, 2010 at his home. Services at 11:00 AM on Tuesday at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Rev. Mark Osterhaus will officiate. Burial with military rites at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 5 to 8 PM on Monday.
Survivors include three sons, Mark (Teri) of Cedar Rapids, David of Vinton and Jerry of Van Horne; one daughter, Cathy Kelchen of Cedar Rapids and two sisters, Lila Offerman of Delaware and Carol (Lee) Thurn of Edgewood. He is also survived by four grandchildren, Robert Coleman, Lisa, Daniel and Austin Kelchen and two great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one brother and one sister.
Bob was born on July 13, 1933 in Worthington, the son of Paul and Cecelia Polfer Kelchen. He married
Patricia J. Bessey on January 18, 1958 in Manchester. Bob was a police officer for the city of City of Cedar Rapids for 28 years, retiring in 1989. He later worked at the Collins Credit Union for 18 years. Bob was a member of St. Matthew Catholic Church, the American Legion, the Cedar Rapids and State Policeman’s Protective Association as well as proudly serving in the Marines. He enjoyed square dancing, working with the deaf, antique tractors and the time he spent with his many friends and beloved family.
Memorial donations may be given to the American Heart Association in Bob’s name.
Josephine E. Klingler

Josephine E. Klingler, 96 of Mesa, Arizona, formerly of Cedar Rapids died on Monday June 14, 2010 at the Seven Haven Assisted Living Center in Mesa after a short illness. Memorial services at 11:00 AM on Monday at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Inurnment at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include a son, Richard (Susie) of Mesa, Arizona, two grandchildren, Eric of California aned Barry and his wife, Becky of Alburnett and two great grandsons, Tanner and Tyler. She was preceded in death by her husband, a sister, Anna Glass and three brothers, Hugh, George and Dick McLaughlin.
Josephine was born on August 16, 1913 in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of George and Lydia Leinen McLaughlin. She married
Harold D. Klingler on October 5, 1934 in Independence. He died in 1988. Josephine was a secretary for Dr. Keith for many years. She was a former member of the Daughters of the Nile and Eastern Star.
A memorial fund has been established in Josephine’s name.
Oliver W. Klein

Oliver W. Klein, 81, of 1115 A Ave, Marion, passed away Thursday, June 24, 2010, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy. Memorial services will be held at 1 PM Tuesday in Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories with Rev. William Harnish officiating. Burial in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 4 to 7 PM Monday and at the chapel after 12:30 PM on Tuesday.
Survivors include his wife Violet, 6 children, Julie (Roger) Sumner of Batavia, Illinois, Laurie (Terry) Lynch of Marion, Larry (Patty) Klein of Palm Coast, Florida, Kim (Mark) Gard of Norwalk, Iowa, David (Dar) Klein of Marion, and Nancy (Kelly) Hoagland of West DesMoines, two step children, Jeff Ness of Minnesota, and Rick (Cindy) Ness of Marion, a sister Evelyn (Don) Wilkinson of Cedar Rapids, brothers William and James both of Cedar Rapids, and Robert of Kansas, and 13 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife Mary Klein, and his parents James Klein and Ruby Grapes.
Oliver was born April 4, 1929 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He was employed at the Cedar Rapids Gazette for over 25 years. He married
Mary C. Powers on June 18, 1950. She died in 1995. He married
Violet Ness on September 23, 2000. He was a volunteer at Aging Services for 7 years. He enjoyed traveling, hunting, fishing, spending time with his family especially his grandchildren, and was an avid Cubs fan.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.
Edwin Dwayne Kimm

Edwin Dwayne Kimm, 88, of Norway, died at Mercy Medical Center, Friday, July 30, 2010. Services: 10 a.m. Tuesday at Trinity Lutheran Church, Walford, by the Rev. David Mosher. Interment: Linwood Cemetery, rural Norway. A visitation will be held at the church Monday from 4:30 to 8 p.m. and after 9 a.m. Tuesday. Cedar Memorial Westside Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Edwin is survived by his wife of 65 years, Nina; children, Nancy (Steve) Janett of Schererville, IN, Doug (Kerry) Kimm, Steven (Debbie) Kimm, and Joel (Barbara) Kimm, all of Norway; sister, Marian (Paul) Moseman of Kansas City, MO; eight grandchildren; and five great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by sisters, Dorothy Stein and Evelyn Kimm; and a grandson, Joshua Wilcox.
Edwin was born October 14, 1921 near Norway, Iowa to Fred and Clara Kimm. He married
Nina Louise Bogue on June 12, 1945. Edwin farmed in the Norway area his whole life and operated a custom shelling and trucking business. He drove school bus for the Norway and Benton Community School Districts for over 30 years. He was a lifelong member of Trinity Lutheran Church. Edwin enjoyed playing bridge and going out to dinner. He most enjoyed spending time with his family.
The family would like to thank the doctors and staff at Mercy Medical Center and Hospice of Mercy for their care and comfort the last months.

Kay L. Knight, 65 of 942 Center Point Rd NE, died Sunday August 1, 2010 in Mercy Medical Center surrounded by her family and friends. Services: 10:30 Thursday at First Congregational Church. Private burial: Cedar Memorial Park cemetery prior to service. Visitation will be Wednesday from 4-8 p.m. at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. The Rev. Dave Hohman will officiate.
Survivors include her husband, Paul, her daughters, Sherri Knight Bierman and husband Richard of Marion, Christine Ann Solis of Marion, a brother, David Holloway of Cedar Rapids, a sister, Sandra Christensen and husband Eugene of Elberon, Iowa, eight brothers in law, Gene (Paula) Knight, Glen (Dotti) Knight, Dean (Susanne) Knight, Mike (Kathy) Knight, Pat (Diana) Knight, Daniel (Vicky) Knight, Dennis Knight, Timothy Knight and six grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Harold and LaVera Peters Holloway, stepfather, Nial Dicken, and two sisters in law, Carleta Holloway and Diana Knight.
Kay Lorraine Knight was born on January 13, 1945 in Waterloo, Iowa. She was the youngest of 3 children born to the proud parents of LaVera and Harold Holloway. Her siblings, David Holloway and Sandra Christensen continue to reside in Iowa. Kay received a formal education in the Cedar Rapids School District, graduating from Washington High School on 1963.
Kay worked for Dr. C.S. Foster as an orthodontist for several years. She met Paul Knight, the love of her life in 1963. They were married
on July 3, 1965 in the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa.
Paul and Kay started a family in 1967 with the birth of their daughter Sherri Kay Knight. Christine Ann Knight was born 3 years later in 1970. Kay was a devoted stay-at-home mother for many years until the girls were older. She then went to work at Franklin Middle School for 17 years as a cashier, retiring in 2005.
There were many things Kay was passionate about. She enjoyed crocheting, bowling, and here home away from home, the cabin on the Wapsi. Many nights were spent sitting out by the fire among friends and family laughing and enjoying life. Kay’s six grandchildren meant the world to her. She loved getting the whole family together and would beam with pride. Kay also had two beloved “furry” children at home whom she love with all her heart, the family cats, Smoky and Bandi Sue.
Kay considered many of her friends to be more like family. She gave unconditional love and support to all in her path, taking care of anyone in need, capturing the hearts of many. She was a member of First Congregational Church for 44 years, and life member of the V.F.W. Post 788. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Mercy Medical Center, Dr. Chirantan Ghosh, Dr. Karen Harmon, and Dr. James Boddicker for the loving care they gave Kay.

Roger E. Kuriger, 92, of the Methwick Community, died Sunday August 1, 2010 in St. Luke’s Hospital. Services: 11:00 a.m. Thursday at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories, where friends may call after 10:00 a.m. Burial: Private at Elmwood cemetery in Waterloo. Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Charlotte and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, Lois Scott, Marie Murphy and Barbara Giovannini.
Roger was born October 20, 1917 in Waterloo, the son of William and Margaret Holmes Kuriger. He married
Charlotte Goswiller on July 3, 1942 in Waterloo. Roger worked for the Crandic for over 30 years retiring in 1983. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church for over 50 years, serving as an usher, various committees and trustee board. He was also a member of the American Legion Hanford Post #5. He served in the Army and Air Force from December of 1942 until February 1946 in Germany and the Phillipines. He was an avid bowler and league secretary for over 25 years and loved to golf.
