Marcus J. Linse, 101, of Marion, passed away March 11, 2013 at Mercy Hallmar following a brief illness. A private family graveside service will be 1:00 pm Thursday, March 14, 2013 at Cedar Memorial Park cemetery with Rev. Gregory R. Williamson presiding. Visitation is 4-7:00 pm Wednesday at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.
Marcus was born June 11, 1911 in Benson, Illinois to Karl and Anna (Schwedler) Linse. He married
Lois A. Mager on June 19, 1937 in Bloomington, Illinois and they raised four children together. Marcus worked for Iowa Manufacturing Company for 33 years as a Sales Engineer and retired in 1976. After retiring, they moved to McGregor, Iowa where his love for the area was ongoing. He was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and served on various committees. Marcus gave of his talents by assisting in building the parsonage for St. Paul’s and ended up living there in his last years.
Marcus is survived by a son, Mark Linse of Volga; three daughters, Joyce Muhlhauser of St. Louis, Marlene (Tom) Wiegand of Cedar Rapids and Cheryl Linse of Stone City; seven grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren and a brother, Arthur Linse of Danville, Illinois. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Lois; four brothers, John, Karl, Luther and Victor; a sister, Pauline; a son-in-law, James Muhlhauser; and a grandson Mark Muhlhauser.
Special thanks to Dr. Marc Wilkinson and his staff, Carlene, Marni and JJ. Also a special thanks to Sonny Deke for visiting every Sunday, Steve Strong from Mercy Hospice for all of his respite care and Cyndi, a massage therapist from Mercy Hospice.

Lloyd C. Larson, 93, a resident of Cedar Rapids for 65 years, and recently of Muscatine died Wednesday March 20, 2013. Services at 10:30 AM on Tuesday at the Kenwood Park United Methodist Church. Rev. Michael Metz will officiate. Burial at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 5 to 8 PM on Monday and at the Church after 9:30 AM on Tuesday.
Survivors include a son Craig (Nita) of Muscatine and a daughter Julie (Rob) Schwartz of Sheridan, Wyoming. He is also survived by two grandchildren Natalie and Christopher Larson and two step-grandchildren Joe and Otto Schwartz. He was preceded in death by his wife Lola, a brother Lawrence and three sisters Bessie Ross, Edith Rassmussen, and Elsie Rogers.
Lloyd was born in rural Benton County, Iowa the son of Chris and Martha Larson on May 27, 1919. He graduated from Newhall High School in 1936 and from the University of Iowa in 1940 with a Bachelor of Science in Commerce degree, majoring in accounting. While at the University of Iowa he was a classmate and acquaintance of Nile Kennick, an honor he treasured.
He married
Lola Hauser on September 20, 1941 in Van Horne. They lived in Chicago while Lloyd worked for the Carnegie-Illinois Steel Corporation of Gary, Indiana. Lloyd served in the United States Army during WWII graduating from Officer Candidate School in 1946. Following his honorable discharge from the Army, Lloyd and Lola settled in Cedar Rapids where Lloyd took a job with a fledgling company, Collins Radio now Rockwell-Collins. He worked for Collins Radio for 23 years, as an accounting supervisor.
Lloyd and Lola then opened Lloyd’s Fish and Chips in Cedar Rapids, expanding the business to include two shops. They later sold the business and Lloyd took a position with J-Tek Associates Inc. where he worked as controller until his retirement at the age of 72 in 1991.
Lloyd was a member of the Kenwood Park United Methodist Church and served in the Methodist Men, including as a financial officer for many years.
Lloyd was an avid Hawkeye and Chicago Cubs fan. He will be remembered by friends and family as an honest, caring father, husband, and grandfather and a dependable hardworking employee. He cherished his poker games and golfing groups. Lloyd’s greatest achievement however was his dedication, and the self sacrificing care he gave Lola as she battled Multiple Sclerosis. His care allowed her to remain in the home until nearly the end of their 66 years of marriage.
He will be greatly missed by his children, their spouses, his grandchildren, nieces and nephews and many friends.
Memorial donations may be given to the Iowa City Hospice, or to Kenwood Park United Methodist Church.
Edwin A. Lang
Born in Medina, ND on October 27, 1932
Departed on August 5, 2010. Resided in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
Edwin A. Lang, 77, of 3904 Blue Mound Dr. NE, died Thursday, August 5, 2010 at Hospice in St. Luke’s Hospital. Services will be held at 1 PM Monday in Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Pastor Tim Endecott will officiate. Entombment in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 to 5 PM on Sunday and at the chapel after 12:30 PM on Monday.
Ed fought the good fight and has now finished his race. He was a man of few words but many actions, always willing to help others. He will be greatly missed by his friends and family but they rejoice in the knowledge that they will see him again in God’s Kingdom.
Ed is survived by his wife of 48 years, Willigene, one daughter Christy of Cedar Rapids, one son Kurt (Kristi) of Harrisburg, Oregon, three grandchildren, Nicole, Jordan, and Korban, two brothers Walt (Mo) Lang of Green Valley, Arizona, Marvin Lang of Goldendale, Washington, three sisters, Dorothy Becker of Zillah, Washington, Linda Roedel of Seattle, Washington, and Liz (George) Corey of Howard City, Michigan, two sister-in-laws Fay (Ken) White of Gilbert, Arizona, and Gwen (Jerry) Franks of Mesa, Arizona; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother and sister-in-law Archie and Alice Lang.
He was employed by Rockwell-Collins for 27 years, retiring in 1992. He was a member of the Church of God (Seventh Day) in Marion, Iowa. He enjoyed gardening, being outdoors, and spending time with his family and especially his grandchildren.
A memorial fund has been established.

Shirley Ann Leyse, 73, of Cedar Rapids, died at home, Friday, August 13, 2010. Services: 10 a.m. Tuesday at Concordia Lutheran Church by the Rev. Jerry Doellinger. Interment: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. A visitation will be held on Monday from 4 to 8 p.m. at Cedar Memorial Westside Chapel and after 9 a.m. Tuesday at the church. Cedar Memorial Westside Chapel is entrusted with arrangements.
Shirley is survived by her husband of 55 years, Donald; children, Kevin (Tammy) Leyse of Cedar Rapids, Krista (Jeff) Holland of Decorah, Kerri (Marty) Striegel of Cedar Rapids, and Kelly (Kara) Leyse of Marion; grandchildren, Shawn, Nick, Heidi (Brandon), Tiffany, Brad, Mike, Damon (Elizabeth), Justin, (Katie), Benjamin, Mitchell, Brent (Dana), Andrew, Amber, and Madalyn; fourteen great grandchildren; sister, Delores (Glen) Thornton of Decorah; sister-in-law, Geraldine Solem; three nephews; four nieces; and her cat, Bree. She was preceded in death by her parents; and brother, Curtis Solem.
Shirley was born November 23, 1936 in Winneshiek County to Melvin and Clara Solem. She married
Donald Leyse on September 3, 1955 in Cedar Rapids. Shirley was employed at Rockwell Collins for over 26 years, retiring in 1991. She was a member of Concordia Lutheran Church, the Moose Lodge, Eagles, and Lasso E Camper Club. She liked to make wooden crafts and paint. She especially liked spending time with her family and camping with husband and friends in the camping club.
The family would like to thank Hospice of Mercy and staff; especially Cindy, Heather, Cindy and Kim. They also thank Drs. Ghosh and Voight and their staff.

Wilma Marie Lynch

Wilma Marie Lynch, 85, of Cedar Rapids, died Tuesday, August 17, 2010 at the Hospice House of Mercy. Funeral Mass: 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Cedar Rapids, by the Rev. Ivan Nienhaus. Interment: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. A vigil service will be held today at 7 p.m. at Cedar Memorial Westside Chapel where friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. and after 9:30 a.m. Friday at the church.
Wilma is survived by her children, Dennis (Nancy) Birkicht of Keller, TX, Debra (Don) Stepanek of Cedar Rapids, James Lynch of Walker, and Robert (Cynthia) Lynch of Robins, and seven grandchildren, Melissa, Nicole, David, Austin, Dalton, Ryan and Grant. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Donald Birkicht and Richard Lynch; and two brothers, Rueben and Leonard Mracek.
Wilma was born April 17, 1925 in Protivin, Iowa, to William and Rose Mracek. She married
Donald Birkicht in Protivin. He died in 1963. She married
Richard Lynch in Cedar Rapids. He died in 1999. She worked at Rockwell Collins for over 30 years, retiring in 1983. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, 50 Year member VFW Auxiliary, the National Czech and Slovak Museum, and St. Patrick’s Church.

Rick Donald Leuenberger

Rick D. Leuenberger, 51, of Cedar Rapids passed away August 28, 2010 in his home with his family following an extended illness. Memorial services will be held 11:00 AM, Wednesday, September 1, 2010 at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Rev. Christine Wagner-Hecht, Chaplain with Hospice of Mercy, will officiate. Friends may call from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Tuesday, August 31, 2010 at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.
Survivors include his wife Teresa; daughters, Heather Parbs and husband Mike of Center Point and their son Caleb, and Chelsea Leuenberger of Cedar Rapids; his mother, Jeri Vernon of Dubuque; his brother, Robert Leuenberger and wife Maureen of Cedar Rapids; as well as several extended family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Donald.
Rick Donald Leuenberger was born August 16, 1959 in Cedar Rapids the son of Donald D. and Jereldine R. (Carroll) Leuenberger. He was united in marriage to Teresa Miller on June 7, 1986 in Cedar Rapids. They were blessed with two daughters. He had been employed with General Mills since 1979 as a Mix Process Operator, as well as owned and operated Rick’s Lawn and Leaf lawn care business. He also served honorably as a Linn County Sheriffs Reserve Officer for 23 years. Rick had a great love of being outdoors, especially hunting, yard work and landscaping. He was a loving husband, father, son, brother, grandfather, and friend who will be greatly missed by all.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Rick’s honor.
